I served the traditional beef brisket dinner with proper sweet & tangy cabbage coleslaw last night but sent little brother home with the rest of the salad. So I made something new today. Cucumber and dried cranberries offer crunch and refreshing taste in this rich meal.

Found this at a farm stand in Santa Barbara County, California. Doesn't taste like a lemon but looks like one, sort of. About fist sized, it tastes a little milder and sweeter than normal cukes. Apparently they are very easy to grow. It was really delicious in my salad.

A look upstream of Cucumber Run just before it gets to the 30 foot waterfall in Ohiopyle State Park.
Cucumbers are already to be put in the ground, after just 5 days in the greenhouse. Dad will have to find a way to deter them for a while. They are a bush cuc, and not a vine, thus the name.

I often photograph stuff that gets made in our kitchen to submit to Recipezaar.com . Food is surprisingly hard to photograph. It is a good way to learn what your camera is capable of while you learn the shortcomings of trying to photograph without a flash at the wrong time of the day.
This spider found it's way on to our rotary washing line - Thought he'd spin himself an extra large web.

On the left is Rosa Bianca Eggplant an on the right is a Lemon Cucumber plant. This little guy had been suffering from what I suspected was powdery mildew and I didn't think he was going to make it. But I pulled off all the infected leaves and the new growth looks pretty healthy. It's covered in male flowers.
