My mom wanted flowers to cover the tv tower, my dad wanted something more functional. So I suggested a flowering vegetable. They're both happy, yay!
Cucumber with black olives, spring onions and chili. Needs mint too, which I didn't have. Still delicious.
Baby cucumber; it is in fact a female flower. After pollination and fertilization, Its ovary will become the cucumber fruit. Or is it a legume?

The cucumber vines are growing well but we have only a few tiny cucumbers just starting to grow on the vines.
I planted a few cucumber plants, and they grew like ivy all over the garden, reaching out and intertwining with the other plants. I still find cucumbers growing all over, including within the tomato plants.
The cucumber (Cucumis sativus) is a widely cultivated plant in the gourd family Cucurbitaceae, which includes squash, and in the same genus as the muskmelon. The plant is a creeping vine which bears cylindrical edible fruit when ripe. There are three main varieties of cucumber: "slicing", "pickling", and "burpless". Within these varieties, several different cultivars have emerged. The cucumber is originally from India, but is now grown on most continents. Many different varieties are traded on the global market.

It was market day today and one of my facebook groups theme for this week is appetisers. Soooo...I needed a dozen oysters, a few finger limes and some cucumber.
Out of the Epicure this week this dish was refreshing and those little pearls of finger lime are a zingy sensation in your mouth. Like fruity roe! The colour of the pearls are a bit "luck of the draw" and I got a mix of pink and pale green...would have loved a really vibrant green to add a bit of pop but no matter :)
Made with cucumbers, red onion, shredded carrrot and a vinegar and fresh dill dressing. This was my contribution to dinner...along with the cranberry relish.
Hallo! Why all these cups? Why cucumber sandwiches? Why such reckless extravagance in one so young? Who is coming to tea?
had this at Irashai Sushi in Kerrisdale. instead of rice, this sushi roll was wrapped with a very carefully cut cucumber! really good stuff.
The cucumber plants in my garden have been performing spectacularly well, so I've gone past the basic sandwiches and gazpacho. Found a recipe for cucumber-blueberry salad - basically, that, plus feta cheese, and a vinaigrette (I used a lime-honey one). Very tasty, and I love the color combination of the dark blue against the pale green.
One of the most bizarre meals I have ever had. The Sky Canteen was a pop-up restaurant by Village East of Bermondsey Street, whilst closed for refurbishment during the summer of 2013. Although presented with a menu, no orders were taken and, without any warning, each course arrived on a single plate made up of all dishes - a firm fingers up to the vegetarians in the group. Great if you like your Moorish Lamb all over your Burrata...... On what was the hottest evening of the year (34°) we were technically eating in a rooftop greenhouse where the temperature must have reached over 40° without any attempt at cooling down the customers. Given the strangeness of the evening I can only assume the heat got to both management and kitchen....
