The Wild Cucumber (Psiguria) is a climbing vine found from southern Mexico and the Antilles to Bolivia. They have showy red, orange or pink flowers, which are a favorite of Heliconius butterflies. The fruit produced are pale yellow to green in color and can contain many seeds.

Ada used the cucumber as a ring for three hours. Cucumber rings will never be a huge hit, but who knows with 2 yr olds:)
Cucumbers are taking over the garden! On a daily basis, I have to go rescue the peppers from being taken over of the cucumber plants! Cucumbers grow "feelers" which stretch out and reach for anything to help the plant spread. These "feelers" are 7-9 inches long and are straight with a small curl on the end to pull itself farther up and out. In my case, the pepper plants are too close and the "feelers" wrap around the pepper stems and leaves in addition to the ropes we actually gave it to climb. The most interesting part of the cucumber plant growth is that it does not wrap its "feelers" around itself...I assume this is why the entire cucumber plant is rough and almost prickly. This particular cucumber plant grows very large fruit, I wonder if the aggressiveness of the "feelers" is its adaptation to ensure growth...or if the prickly coating of the plant is an adaptation to ensure it doesn't strangle itself!
I thought you were a squash. We received our first CSA box from Eatwell Farm yesterday. I hope we continue to get mysterious produce.
Went to Bath & Body Works today and copped a bottle of Cucumber Melon body lotion. No longer will I smell like Sweet Pea/Japanese Cherry Blossom. >:b [click picture for my flickr]
I served the traditional beef brisket dinner with proper sweet & tangy cabbage coleslaw last night but sent little brother home with the rest of the salad. So I made something new today. Cucumber and dried cranberries offer crunch and refreshing taste in this rich meal.
