Mammatus clouds from yesterday's storm. The flagpole was very high and I wasn't able to leave it out of my frame as I was on a hill, so I tried to embed it in the best possible way with these clouds which were hanging over me.

Someone was clearly trying to catch a little sun - taken at sunset on Broome's glorious Cable Beach in the north west of Western Australia.
I was lucky to grab a shot with no people in it as the beach was actually quite crowded and full of four wheel drives and crowds of sunset watchers.
Original colour slide was taken in 2004 with a 3D twin rig using two Canon 300V SLR cameras and using Fuji Sensia 100 slide film. Scanned with a Canon R10, RF 24-240 lens and Nisi close up attachment.
The foggy sunrise brought with it some heavy traffic for the little black cormorants.

A blazing intense sunset popped out tonight just as I received news of our flickr friend Graham Little who lives over in the West but isn't doing too well at the moment. One for you my friend.
Taking shelter behind the much needed breakwater at Port MacDonnell in South Australia. The clouds behind were almost black as the storm front approached.
The Murray river and Mannum in South Australia are very much in the news at the moment due to the rising floodwaters and huge volume of water flowing downstream. This older view from when levels were normal shows a lagoon that is to one side of the main river itself and also a bird sanctuary with a small jetty leading out to a bird hide. All of this jetty would be very much under water by now. The sunrise shown here from around six months ago was an amazing one with deep glows appearing all over the sky from east to west. The cabin deck that this was taken from would also be very close to going under. Many of the other cabins in the park have been temporarily moved to higher ground and I believe the main street is closed due to a huge levee being built up the middle of the road. Let's hope it all passes soon and their lives can get back to normal, and that they are all high and dry for Christmas.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
The last 2 days of August tried to "compensate" for a long record-warm and dry summer. The lightning activity was great on both days and I had some captures despite the daylight. Even while the storm was moving away and the sun was well above us, quadruple lightning bolts like this one, were "hanging" around. Taken on 30.08.2024, in Athens, Greece. Canon 5Dmk4, Sigma Art 14 mm, f/4, 1/25'', iso 100, NiSi ND64 nano IR filter.

Looks can be deceiving. Despite the sun shimmering brightly on the horizon, the outside temperature was just 1 degree C. The birds and I were glad to finally feel a little warmth.
From memory, this is somewhere on the Tamar River near the heart of Launceston in Tasmania close to a wonderful seafood restaurant.
Taken sometime between 2005 and 2009 with the RBT 3D stereo 35mm film camera using Sensia 100 slide film. Scanned with a Canon R10, RF 24-240mm lens and Nisi close up attachment.
Four lightning bolts during a nocturnal thunderstorm, south of Attica, towards the Aegean Sea. Night of Sep. 5, 2023, during the storm system named "Daniel" that flooded Thessaly (more than 1000 mm of rain in 3 days).

The B-29 Bomber "Doc" coming in for a landing at Long Beach Airport in southern California for an event there. I was fortunate enough to be at the home of some of my family on vacation, and their house is very near the flight path for landing at Long Beach Airport. This was quite a sight to see. And, these old bombers are loud!

Lightning bolts were rare on this, but here is one, as the spc invades the city. Canon 5Dmk4, f/2.8, 1/25'', Sigma Art 14 mm, NiSi ND64 nano filter. Athens, Greece, Nov. 26, 2021.

Ever looked out your window at sunset and thought, wow it was just getting dark a minute ago. Now there’s a strange yellow glow emanating from somewhere. Bingo! That was this night.
The actual name is the Point Fermin Lighthouse. This Victorian structure was built in 1874 with lumber from California redwoods.

This was a different sprite-chase. On the early morning of Mar. 11, 2023, a very active line of thunderstorms was moving towards Athens from the NW but in such a way, that I had a clear view over it until it got too close. One example is this capture here.
More than 20 red sprite events were captured and I also got the closest on record, so far for me (“parent” lightning was only some 25-30 km away, so the relevant sprites gave the impression as if they were literally “hanging” above my head). On the other hand, the extreme light pollution from the city and the very bright moon, weren’t helpful at capturing such faint phenomena.
TLEs (like red sprites) appear, under specific circumstances, above thunderstorms (e.g. red sprites appear at altitudes of 40-90 km).
I've used a Sigma 20 mm lens at f/1.4, for 1/25'' with 10k iso.

Well, not that kind of dust, but I do get a buzz on this dust, and any severe weather.
A severe storm centered near Pevely, MO kicked out a gust front that brought up the dust off the surrounding unplanted farmland.

Altostratus clouds with a sharp boundary towards the west horizon, is a promising recipe for sunsets like this. This is the west part of the center of Athens, with mt. Egaleo. 26.10.2025.

Our Magnolia Grandiflora bush looked great against the long lingering sunset a few nights ago. It will probably be the last good sunset for a while. Our rains have arrived at long last! 20mm last night and counting.

This was the final wonderful sunset of our recent trip, and was taken from the deck of our cabin in Kingston SE looking across what was an amazingly calm sea.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
(Will catch up soon with flickr followers - just home from the trip today, and I have 2700 photos to sort through - and that was after deleting about 2000 along the way!)
The third favorite capture (and last one) from the storm-night on Nov. 10-11, during the thunderstorms between E. Attica and Evia isl. The colors you see here in the storm cloud are absolutely real and clearly visible to the naked eye. The central green hailcore, the white-purple towering storm cloud on the right side and the dark grey on the left side. This is why I wanted to keep this into my "time-capsule".
The moon can be seen on the left side and Orion on the top right side and Gemini on the top left. Also observe a CG lightning bolt at the bottom, striking far away at the Aegean Sea.
For this one, I've used a Sigma Art 20 mm lens, f/1.4 @ f/4 for 8'' with iso 500.
