I do love new car day! Christmas in July!

A pair of Chevrolet Corvette Stingrays in 1/18th scale by Norev, set against the wonderful backdrop of a peaceful sunset at Port Germein on the Spencer Gulf, in South Australia.

The new one is the convertible on the right.

Out walking the dogs enjoying the lightning show, and the moon decided that it didn’t want to be left out of the game. In the hood.

A lightning bolt serves as a momentary natural electric "division" between the right and the left part of a dense growing rainshaft, during a noon thunderstorm. Check a short video from the specific storm, as it grows, here: youtu.be/zrLFiFd21SI. August 23, 2022, in Athens, Greece. Canon 5Dmk4, Sigma Art 14 mm (cropped), f/2.8, 1/25'', iso 100, NiSi nano ND64 filter.

A small single and not too straight Norfolk Island Pine taken at sunset on the foreshore at Kingston SE in South Australia. Its slight lean made it look to my eyes like a small yacht sailing into the breeze.

Sandy Bight, Cape Arid National Park

Dramatic sky at the Thames Barrier … There is a nice park and cafe next to it. Best to reach taking DLR train towards Woolwich and get out at Pontoon Dock

This was the second night in a row (Nov. 10-11) with TLEs (Transient Luminous Events), this time over the thunderstorms at the Aegean Sea. But, before that, I was treated with some close thunderstorms and some beautiful lightning bolts occurred. Observe this one, heading for... Orion!

Notice the corona discharge with its distinct blue/purple color at the edges of the bolt. These purple filaments/streamers are created due to high values of the electric field (high enough to ionize air molecules, mostly nitrogen).

The moon can be seen behind the clouds, on the left side.

For this one, I've used a Sigma Art 20 mm lens, f/1.4 @ f/5.6 for 10'' with iso 500.

As the street lamps came to life tonight, the sun went down over the local rooftops in one brief final fiery blast of colour!

Another well timed walk with the dogs.

Maybe I am just seeing things. Maybe I watch too many Star Wars movies - I had just watched all of the old Star Wars collection before coming on this trip.

All I could see here was Jabba the Hutt.

Taken from my usual position on the deck of our cabin, on the edge of the Murray River in Mannum on a wonderfully stormy afternoon.

An Australian pelican looking like it is soaring right up among the clouds and showing off its amazing wingspan.

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

A few nights ago, this sudden late glow appeared on the horizon after we had thought it was going to be another dull cloudy sundown. The colour lingered for ages until lights took over and stars appeared.

A nice reward for taking the dogs out for a walk. We arrived just in time at our turn around point for a gorgeous sunset.

A wonderful misty pre-dawn scene on my favourite stretch of the Murray River at Mannum. Every sunrise was a treat of ever changing colours and wildlife. A little mist and fog always helps too!

Looking west from Big Hill lookout in Stawell, Victoria, at sunset.

I was going to take many more shots from the Mannum lookout, showing the fine river views, but one glance at the coming rain told me it was time to pack up and head for cover. Definitely not a day for the convertibles!

A forced perspective shot of the 1/18th scale model Mercedes 190 SL and the AC Cobra roadster with a real backdrop of the Mannum lookout carpark.

While we have had a little shower or two here in Mount Gambier lately, we have not had much decent rain, so it was wonderful to have a heavy fall as this storm passed over us. It was just a bonus to get some dramatic light hit the silver birch trees and their late autumn colours, then a lovely rainbow to finish it off.

Some parts of Australia are suffering floods at the moment, so while we do feel for them, it is very nice to get this rain locally.

.....not from the Land of the Long White Cloud. This is actually from Twilight Bay near Esperance in Western Australia. The coastline is full of amazing scenery and vivid colours. The sea has an amazing intensity of blue, mainly due to the pure white sand on the beaches there.

Having said that, I did also have a polarising filter too which certainly brought out the colours.

Yet another colourful sunrise worth rising early for at Mannum on the Murray river in South Australia.

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

Another morning at Mannum on the Murray River, and another wonderfully different sunrise! The trees on the distant horizon made an amazing silhouette as the sun popped up.

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

A coastal scene taken looking toward Middle Island (left) and Merri Island (right) on the south coast of Warrnambool in Victoria.

In actual fact, it was quite windy and the waves were very choppy, but the 10 stop ND filter did its thing and calmed everything down.

On the left island, there are a small number of black faced cormorants who were very cooperative in staying still! They will feature in the next shot which I took while this long exposure was happening.

A follow up to "White Hot" posted a few days ago. My other 1/18th scale model 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray parked with a fiery sunset backdrop taken at Big Hill lookout in Stawell, Victoria.

Looking northward, through double paned window, 20 minutes before sunrise, 22 January, 2022.

Several red sprites were observed and recorded during the night of Jun. 25, 2022, over the thunderstorms of central and northern Aegean Sea. TLEs (like red sprites) appear, under specific circumstances, above thunderstorms. This event had a faint "green GhOST" as well. I've used a Sigma 85 mm lens at f/1.4, for 1/25'' with 51.2k iso. 1/18th scale model Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C3 by Norev against a fiery red sunset.

A nod to the movie Cloud Atlas for the many layers of clouds.

Nature puts on some wonderful art sometimes.

Another Murray River sunrise. Every one of them is worth the early start.

Mammatus clouds preceding a storm right in time for sunset.

Driving in the picturesque Welsh valleys.

I haven't gotten a good photo of a full sun halo before with iPhones. I tried a panoramic shot this time with better results. Got creative with contrast, etc.

A 34 kV power line follows a country road at sunset. This line, with many 1950s era porcelain power insulators, will be rebuilt in the very near future.

The sky was entertaining to watch as the setting sun lit up the storm clouds over our home a week ago. It was an ever changing natural artwork with the moon as a bonus!

The unmistakeable silhouette of an Australian Pelican in flight over the Murray River during another golden Riverland sunrise.

A shot from last summer of a sudden storm that came down from the north west. It turned out to be all show, and no go with very little rain and just a little lightning and a few rumbles of thunder. It certainly looked the part though!

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

Sonnenuntergang am See

The granite boulders in the park are huge and the vegetation is quite varied. The deserts of Southern California are spectacular to a desert lover like me.

Thank you all so very much for your comments and faves, but most of all I thank you for just taking the time to look. I appreciate each and every one of you! Gracias. Merci. Danke. Obrigado. Grazie. Go raibh maith agat. Tapadh leat. Gratias tibi.

With nacreous clouds and some lens flare that I couldn't avoid.

Last night's sunset was a beauty. One of those long lasting displays of wonderful colour.

UP 5730 brings a relatively short 3933' 64 car MASPB 6 by Harris Road on the UP Chester Subdivision. MASPB is often configured 1 X 1 and around 10,000', but not today. At 3787 tons, the lone GE was enough to pull the train across the flat landscape of southwestern Illinois, southeast Missouri, and eastern Arkansas.
