Another wonderful painted sky appeared outside our front door again. Brief, but beautiful.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Last night's severe weather featured a lot of swirling, dark clouds in our area of northwest Illinois, but thankfully no tornadoes...
The Merc (Mercantile National Bank) seen from the Statler Hotel rooftop bar … One of the greatest views in the Dallas city center…
A shot from a few years ago, taken from Weeroona Island just north of Port Pirie facing north across the sparkling calm waters of the Spencer Gulf in South Australia.
This was taken shortly before the previous post and may well have been the bolt that started the grassfire!
(I later found out that there were dozens of grassfires started by this storm all through the south east of South Australia and around Mount Gambier.)

Dangerous bolt from the blue lightning, striking on the ground, ~15 km away from the storm's core. I guess, someone there, was not happy at all. Athens, Greece, 10.06.2021. Canon 5Dmk4, f/8, iso 100, NiSi ND nano filter 64, Sigma Art 14 mm.

Some of you have seen this before, but I never liked the way it looked, so I dug into the archives a bit and reprocessed it. Now it looks just as I saw it.
Thank you all so very much for your comments and faves, but most of all I thank you for just taking the time to look. I appreciate each and every one of you! Gracias. Merci. Danke. Obrigado. Grazie. Go raibh maith agat. Tapadh leat. Gratias tibi.

The Thames Barrier is an engineering and design masterpiece. In the background you can see the skyline of Canary Wharf.
...and all I got was a lousy catalog😕
42F now, possible wind gusts up to 50 MPH just announced. My back fence may not survive. 🤔😧

We are lucky enough to have a nice view to our west over the rooftops of the village and we can just catch a glimpse of a paddock around one kilometre away with a dozen resident cows. As I went out the front door tonight to catch the sunset rays, I briefly thought to myself how nice it would be if there was a cow in the scene. Truly, within seconds, this one read my mind perfectly and wandered along the ridge. The small flock of birds were a bonus!
This single shaft of sunlight tracked its way across the whole horizon and for a moment, felt like a searchlight, seeking something. It was a little eerie as the cloud was quite quick in its movement and so the beam of light also moved quickly.
Lightning over floodwaters at Paringa, South Australia.

Dramatic sky at the Thames Barrier … There is a nice park and cafe next to it. Best to reach taking DLR train towards Woolwich and get out at Pontoon Dock
Along Highway 108/120 near western border for Tuolumne County. An old field stone wall is in the center of the photo.
WAY in the background, towers and power lines from the Hetch Hetchy power plant in Moccasin are visible.
I do love new car day! Christmas in July!
A pair of Chevrolet Corvette Stingrays in 1/18th scale by Norev, set against the wonderful backdrop of a peaceful sunset at Port Germein on the Spencer Gulf, in South Australia.
The new one is the convertible on the right.
A follow up to "White Hot" posted a few days ago. My other 1/18th scale model 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray parked with a fiery sunset backdrop taken at Big Hill lookout in Stawell, Victoria.
This thunderstorm, was a bit more dangerous than it appears. The first bolt from the blue (observe that there is sunlight above me and also on the ground) was never seen but heard from the radio antennas on the hill I was. A typical discharge sound and the thunder right after. I was observing another storm at north, because this one was further away, so I was astonished because I haven't seen any lightning from the one close to me. I run for shelter at once. I opened the camera and 5' later, there was the second one, in the photo. August 31, 2022, in Athens, Greece. Canon 5Dmk4, Sigma Art 14 mm (cropped), f/3.2, 1/25'', iso 100, NiSi nano ND64 filter.

While we have had a little shower or two here in Mount Gambier lately, we have not had much decent rain, so it was wonderful to have a heavy fall as this storm passed over us. It was just a bonus to get some dramatic light hit the silver birch trees and their late autumn colours, then a lovely rainbow to finish it off.
Some parts of Australia are suffering floods at the moment, so while we do feel for them, it is very nice to get this rain locally.

This picture was taken in June 2015 using an Apple iPhone 5c and has been posted on my profile before. This is a remastered version, edited using Lightroom.
A lightning bolt serves as a momentary natural electric "division" between the right and the left part of a dense growing rainshaft, during a noon thunderstorm. Check a short video from the specific storm, as it grows, here: youtu.be/zrLFiFd21SI. August 23, 2022, in Athens, Greece. The sky was entertaining to watch as the setting sun lit up the storm clouds over our home a week ago. It was an ever changing natural artwork with the moon as a bonus!
Out walking the dogs enjoying the lightning show, and the moon decided that it didn’t want to be left out of the game. In the hood.
A few nights ago, this sudden late glow appeared on the horizon after we had thought it was going to be another dull cloudy sundown. The colour lingered for ages until lights took over and stars appeared.
As the street lamps came to life tonight, the sun went down over the local rooftops in one brief final fiery blast of colour!
Maybe I am just seeing things. Maybe I watch too many Star Wars movies - I had just watched all of the old Star Wars collection before coming on this trip.
All I could see here was Jabba the Hutt.
Taken from my usual position on the deck of our cabin, on the edge of the Murray River in Mannum on a wonderfully stormy afternoon.
A wonderful misty pre-dawn scene on my favourite stretch of the Murray River at Mannum. Every sunrise was a treat of ever changing colours and wildlife. A little mist and fog always helps too!
Several red sprites were observed and recorded during the night of Jun. 25, 2022, over the thunderstorms of central and northern Aegean Sea. TLEs (like red sprites) appear, under specific circumstances, above thunderstorms. This event had a faint "green GhOST" as well. I've used a Sigma 85 mm lens at f/1.4, for 1/25'' with 51.2k iso.
