Another shot of an amazing sunset from a few months ago. It changed every second with crepuscular rays sweeping across the sky. A wonderful five minutes of natural art!
Rainbow, shadows and clouds, after the rain.

While I was out myself, taking shots of another glorious sunset, I noticed these three masked lapwings on my neighbour's roof-top, also seemingly staring at the incredible sunset. I think we all stood for another ten minutes, gazing to the west, mesmerised by the amazing colours. I have often wondered if other birds and animals have an appreciation of natural beauty, and now I am sure they do!
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Not 100% sure, but I may have caught a little sun pillar (just left of centre) in this shot. I have never seen them before, so I am only comparing this to other photos I have seen. This was a local sunset last year.
The local birds were enjoying it too with their usual viewpoint atop the TV antenna.
Night thunderstorm offers some nice show over the city. This one made the surrounding antennas "scream" due to charge flow. That was close enough. Of course we keep ourselves safe and under shelter at any time. On the lower center-left part of the image, under the lightning and over the Acropolis, one can discern the moon behind dissipating clouds and thin rainshafts. Athens, Greece, Oct. 10, 2021.

Dawn with clouds above and below me, taken from the Big Hill Lookout in Stawell, Victoria.

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Although this gives the impression of being at a great height, the lookout is only perhaps a hundred metres over the town of Stawell and the surrounding countryside. Here, I am looking east at the sunrise over a huge pool of morning fog. Temperature was around zero C.
The granite boulders in Joshua Tree National Park are huge. They had to come from somewhere, and I'd guess there was a glacier here during a previous Ice Age. But that's just my wild guess, not a fact. The Park is beautiful!

I had always known starlings in a flock to be in unison while changing direction mid flight, but I am always amazed to see even the wing position and beats be almost identical at any given moment. The orange glow was from another wonderful sunrise in combination with a sudden heavy shower of rain on the surface of the river behind the reeds! You can just make out some raindrops falling near the top of the image if you zoom in. It was yet another mesmerising morning on the edge of the Murray River in Mannum, SA.
The sun was well down already and streetlights were on before this sudden burst of colour appeared briefly. I just had time for a handful of shots and it quickly disappeared.
There is never a dull or boring sunrise on the Murray river, and this one was no exception. The pink slash on the horizon lasted only seconds as the low cloud swirled and changed quickly.

I always enjoy those minutes just before the sun peeps over the horizon and a new day begins.
Taken from the jetty at Beachport, South Australia.
A sunset from a few nights ago showed a really interesting criss-cross pattern that I had never seen before in this area. The late colours really made it stand out. I'm sure a weatherman could explain it better - I just thought that it looked cool! Even the three magpies on the TV antenna seemed to be admiring it all.

This was the same sunset as my other image for today 'Sunset 1'. This was just 15 minutes later and was hastily taken through our laundry window. The little blast of intense colour lasted exactly 30 seconds. By the time I walked outside to take a better shot, the colour was completely gone!

This night had 2 tornadic supercells in Athens. This one gave an EF2 tornado 30' later. The other, possibly an EF0 later on. See more about this night, here: antisimvatikos.blogspot.com/2020/10/blog-post.html

I grabbed a few shots of this local sunset - nothing spectacular for colour, but very interesting and moody clouds. Not seeing much potential for colour, I went inside and put the camera away.
Yes, tickets sell out quickly for the evening sunset show here in Mount Gambier! It is mostly attended by starlings, with an occasional magpie getting lucky with a centre, front row seat!
This is our retirement village community TV antenna that supplies the signal to 250 units! It's just as well this has no effect on reception! ; )
The sun went down tonight in a sudden blaze of glory over here in Mount Gambier! The western sky was just a dull grey when these amazing rays quickly burst upward for just a few minutes. I was only able to hastily grab a few shots through our laundry window (which was thankfully clean) before the dull greyness returned.
Brilliant yellow wild mustard blooming in Joshua Tree National Park, California. This desert area is incredibly beautiful.

Somewhere out of shot, a handsome man in a tuxedo is searching in his pockets for the keys to either a DB9 or a DB5. Either way, he will be happy to jump behind the wheel of an Aston Martin.

A pair of 1/18th scale models from the cheap and cheerful end of the model spectrum - the Aston Martin DB9 by Motor Max, and the Aston Martin DB5 by Solido, set against a moody and dramatic sunset taken from Big Hill lookout in Stawell in Western Victoria.
Posting one from the archives for the moment - another version of one already posted a couple of years ago. Just back from a week away, and still getting unpacked and organised - will catch up soon!
A shelf cloud is nice, but when there is lightning with it, is nicer :-) August 25, 2022, in Athens, Greece. Canon 5Dmk4, Sigma Art 14 mm (cropped), f/3.2, 1/25'', iso 100, NiSi nano ND64 filter.

Nocturnal non-tornadic supercell with several multiple lightning strikes. This is a quintuple one. On the far left side, one can observe the rotating wall cloud. A funnel has been observed. No confirmed contact with the ground. Athens, Greece, Oct. 13, 2021.

Two shots of last night's sunset - one looking traditionally west, and the other taken at the same time looking east to the moonrise.
Just 60 metres below, everything was a total grey-out with the whole Murray River area blanketed in fog, so I went up to the Mannum lookout and just managed to find some sun over the top of the fog.
Well, it's almost a smiley face - just a slightly flat one! (In the frame that followed this, it was a frowning face!)
3 unidentified ducks flying low in the thin red line of sunrise over the Murray river near Mannum, South Australia.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
(I was trying to categorise this shot, so, I have decided it is a wildlife, cloud, sunrise, telephoto, landscape, panorama, birds in flight, silhouette shot.....just to keep things simple!)
These distant tiny birds (about one kilometre away) looked like they were on a hunt for the mythical pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. When I took the shot, I did not even see them in the viewfinder (and they are still not visible in a thumbnail of the image) as I was mainly looking for a telephoto shot of the rainbow colours! I am not totally sure what they are - maybe welcome swallows?

I was amazed at how quickly this first blush of pink went across the sky, turning it pink in a matter of seconds. Another wonderful start to a Riverland day.
Happy Nice Wonderful Cloud Tuesday!
Low clouds over the city, as the thunderstorm moves on to the east. Tons of rain on my back, but some nice lightning strikes in front of me. It was a day when up to 200 mm of precipitation were recorded locally in the city within some hours. That's about the 2/5 of the yearly precipitation. Columniform red sprites over the thunderstorms of the Ionian sea and W. Greece as seen from W. Attica during the night of Oct. 11, 2021. Intense parent lightning flash is obvious too. I've used a Sigma 20 mm lens at f/1.4 with 32k iso. More about the Greek Team chasing red sprites and TLEs in general: antisimvatikos.blogspot.com/2019/05/tles-greek-archive-of...
