The lower layer of clouds were in darkness and made a great silhouette for the sunset colours above.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
I was briefly amazed at the storm that built over our village today as it had some of the meanest looking clouds I have seen in a long time. This lightning flash was my signal to go inside! The lighting was amazing for half an hour, but very little rain fell in our area - just all around us.
I only managed to catch this lightning through reacting to the first of what must have been a multiple flash. A touch of good fortune!

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Some weird looking clouds drifted over Mount Gambier a couple of weeks ago. I haven't seen anything quite like this in Mount Gambier before - it was quite eerie looking. They didn't give any rain. As we were just out shopping at the local supermarket, I only had the phone camera at the time, but it seemed to capture the odd look of these clouds well enough.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
The sun climbing slowly through the morning cloud and bringing some heat to the day.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Actually this is not all that high, but on this wonderful clear day it felt like I was on top of everything! This is the view looking southwest from the One Tree Hill lookout near Ararat in Victoria. Its elevation would be around 570 metres and this is looking across the foggy valley toward the Grampians National Park. The tallest peak there is Mount William at 1167 metres. On a clear day from Mount William, you can see up to 120 kilometres.

Multiple lightning strike during a thunderstorm during the afternoon, on June 15, 2022, SW of Athens, Greece. Acropolis with Parthenon is on the lower left part of the image. Dense rainshaft formation is also visible. This multicell, kept on giving bolts for ~2 hours. Canon 5Dmk4, Sigma Art 14 mm, f/3.2, 1/25'', iso 100, NiSi nano ND64 filter.

This very grainy old blue hour panorama has been lurking in the archives for a long while as a failed image due to being badly underexposed, but for some reason, I kept it. I decided to do some serious sliding to bring it partly back to life again. My efforts have left a lot of the grain in the clouds, but brought out a lot of details missing from the original.
A four image stitched panorama taken from Cunningham Pier in Geelong, Victoria. I cannot quite remember what stitcher was used. Taken with a Pentax K200D and from memory it used a 18/55 kit zoom lens.

Another trick of the eye making it look as though this distant telecoms tower is connecting one cloud to another.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
The sun, which had already set at ground level, was catching on the contrail of this commercial jetliner flying at 41,000 feet on its way from Perth to Melbourne, and giving it an amazing glow.
I have eliminated what blue was in the sky to highlight the colourful contrail and boosted the colour just a little.
Happy Slider Sunday!
Following on from last Tuesday's post, this was the scene just three minutes on, and the red colour above had disappeared. Then this long rift appeared and it momentarily looked like a gateway to hell, and I am sure I can see a horned Lucifer just off centre taking a quick look around. This lasted just a handful of seconds before moving on to yet another totally different phase of the sunrise. More to come next week.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Sunset taken from half way along the Port Germein jetty looking across the wonderful tidal sandflats and their amazing textures and patterns.
I awoke early to find an eerie red glow from the bedroom window and saw this amazing sunrise. I dragged on a few clothes and dashed outside to find what was one of the most intense red skies I have seen. It covered every part from east to west, and north to south. Wonderful to see.....and worth getting out of bed for earlier than my usual time!
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
The Cape Northumberland lighthouse looked wonderful with a combination of storm clouds and a sunset.
This is alongside Port MacDonnell on the southernmost tip of South Australia around 30 minutes drive down from Mount Gambier.
One from the archives from April last year.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
(On a side note - there are some odd blotchy patches of colour in the sky here, but I just checked the original in my files, and it is fine, so somehow it didn't upload perfectly.)
On another side note - I will probably be tardy with comments for a week or so - I am having internet connection troubles thanks to my Telco stealing back my promised bonus data, so everything has been slowed down deliberately to the point of being almost unusable. I will catch up soon!
While sitting quietly in the shadows and watching the slowly rising sun, it is looking like a perfect day ahead for a long drive in the E-type Jag.

A pseudo forced perspective shot of my 1/18th scale AUTOart die-cast model 1961 E-type Jaguar roadster, with a backdrop of another wonderful Murray River sunrise.
The pond is actually the Murray River near Murray Bridge in South Australia, but it was beautifully lit by a golden sunrise and looked wonderful in the mist.
Another triple lightning bolt I picked out from the nocturnal thunderstorm, south of Attica, somewhere between Salamina isl. and Aegina isl., during the night of Nov. 6, 2022. At first it "wanted" to be a simple branch but it changed its "mind"...! At the lower right part of the photo, you can see street lights. There was a power outage only at the specific area (something that helped a lot against the, otherwise frustrating, light pollution).

Dangerous night for stormchasers out there. Fast growth of this nocturnal storm, discrete green hailcore and several multiple bolts and bolts from the blue (like this one here that originated from behind). The sound, well, you can imagine it... explosive! One can observe the rain drops in the air as well.

Last night's sunset was another beauty and very briefly, it turned all the white cars in the village a lovely shade of pink. I couldn't resist this shot of the glowing clouds reflecting in the windows of my own normally vivid white car.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
A powerful appearance of a lightning bolt during a nocturnal thunderstorm, south of Attica, on Aegina isl. Night of Nov. 6, 2022. The rainshaft wasn't dense enough and this was good for the photograph :-)

More model adventures.
I couldn't wait for daylight, so I headed off in the dark to test the new 1969 Chevrolet Corvette. The golden sunrise looked wonderful lighting up the low lying fog and glinting off the railway line alongside the parking bay near Keith in South Australia. It also gleamed on the shiny gold paintwork of the Corvette.

A pseudo forced perspective shot of my latest 1/18th scale die-cast model Chevrolet Corvette made by a company called Norev.
Background is a parking bay somewhere near Keith in South Australia right alongside the tracks of the main Adelaide to Melbourne rail line.
Both myself and the little New Holland Honeyeater were mesmerised by the full sky sunset from a few weeks ago. The cloudy sky glowed red in all directions.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Apparently, these halos sometimes form around the sun in high altitude cloud and are at 22 degrees from the sun (or moon). It made for an interesting sunset that was otherwise without any colour.
Coincidentally, that was probably the temperature!

This is as big as our local aircraft get down here in Mount Gambier. When they come down from the north, they make a final banking turn that sees them pointing right at us before heading back up to the airport.
Taken just before a gentle golden sunset.
For the aircraft fans, I believe this is either a Saab 340A or Saab 340B.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
In the calm of the evening after some more stormy looking clouds developed, the moon popped out from behind a towering cloud that was catching the last rays of the sun which had already set at ground level.
I was fascinated to watch just how long these surfers would stay out trying to catch one last wave before darkness took over. They outlasted me and stayed until the sun was well below the horizon!

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Some days, mother nature's daily gift is a beauty, but this day's was very generous!
I slept through a good sunrise the day before this so I was determined to be up early, and it was certainly worth the early rise. It was mesmerising to watch it develop from a tiny glimmer of pre dawn light right through to this blaze of colour.
The flock of birds appeared to be starlings flitting in and out of the reeds, and a little further out there were swallows skimming along and reflecting in the water.

A Whistling Kite taking an early flight on the never ending hunt for food by the side of the Murray River in Mannum, South Australia.
For a short spell, our entire sky was covered in these amazing delicate wisps of cloud. Five minutes later it had disappeared totally! It was one of those rare occasions where I wished for a much wider angle lens to fit it all in - this was a 24mm lens (even though the lens data shows 8.8mm, it is the 35mm equivalent for the cropped sensor used in the Sony RX10m4).
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
This sunset just briefly lit up the underside of a storm cloud that was just beginning to unload a heavy rainfall creating this amazing little scene in the sky.
A wonderful clear morning, just after sunrise combined with a low lying fog turned the Grampians Range into an apparent island.
