Foggy twilight. Canon 5Dmk4, Sigma Art 14 mm. North of Athens, Greece, Nov. 4, 2021. On the right, there is a part of mt. Parnitha and at the center, far away, is the peak of mt. Penteli.
*The term "psychedelic" is derived from the Ancient Greek words psychē (ψυχή, "soul") and dēloun (δηλοῦν, "to make visible, to reveal"), translating to "mind-manifesting". In everyday language, we use it for all those things, colors, feelings, sensations, which take us out of the ordinary, and give us an "escape route" to a dreamy world.

USA vs UK.
Chevrolet vs Jaguar.
1953 vs 1961.
3.8 litre engine vs 3.8 litre engine.
Turns out, the battle for fastest acceleration was a one sided affair. The Jaguar engine put out around 265 hp while the Corvette had just 150 hp. The Corvette also had a 2 speed auto to get power to the ground while the Jag had a 4 speed manual.
Acceleration zero to 60 mph -
Corvette - 11.5 seconds.
Jaguar - 6.8 seconds.
No matter which one is fastest, they both look sensational just cruising down the highway.

A pseudo forced perspective shot of the two AUTOart 1/18th scale model die-cast cars against the beautiful backdrop of the highway north of Hawker in South Australia's Flinders Ranges. Storms had just been through and the normally dry countryside was unusually green and healthy looking after a wet winter.
A ten image focus stack taken and processed with the Canon R10 and RF 24-240 zoom lens.
The focus stacking didn't work very well on this, but I kept the image anyway and posted it. It was a little blurry on the car bodies in a couple of places, possibly due to the fact that the lens suffers quite bad focus breathing.
Just a low thin cloud on the horizon wasn't going to spoil this glorious sunset taken across the tidal sand flats at Port Germein on the Spencer Gulf in South Australia.
The dawn glow was amazing on this particular morning by the Murray River in Mannum. The sky on the horizon glowed in several locations making it look like there was going to be two or three suns come up.
There was a lot happening, but oh so quietly. A flight of pelicans heading downstream, trees full of cormorants, and many other birds all on the go - peacefully!
A sunrise on the Murray River at Mannum, South Australia from 2023.
The sun slowly won the battle with the morning fog and suddenly, everything just sparkled!
Another perfect Riverland day.
This was an unexpectedly good sunset where the last rays of the sun were lighting up a very light rain falling from the clouds but not hitting the ground - also known as virga. The sky glowed briefly but intensely!
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
It is usually this time of year that we head on up to Mannum on the Murray River for a holiday. Unlikely to happen this year, so I couldn't resist a trip back through the archives for some of my favourite sunrise moments. This was always the best way to start every day up there. Up early, a mug of hot coffee, and sit quietly on the deck, just me and the birds all slowly coming to life.

Last decade saw a good amount of sunspot activity, something which apparently leads to more frequent aurora displays. This was taken just before sunset on a hazy day and gave a good chance to see the sun spots (on the left side) in a photo.
Happy Slider Sunday!
A flight of pelicans was the first of many as the river slowly came to life before sunrise.
Murray River, Mannum, South Australia.
This night storm had *a lot* of "upward" lightning or GCs (Ground-to-Cloud lightning). This one stems from a wind turbine which is on the peak of a mountain under the cloud layer. NW parts of Athens are also visible.

A rising full moon taken from Big Hill Lookout in Stawell, Victoria.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
A little quirk of intense light and atmospherics made this sunrise look like the shimmering sun was coming up from within the clouds themselves, with the early morning birds flying towards it for a closer look.
Taken by the Murray River at Mannum in South Australia.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Sitting on the edge of the Murray River in Mannum is an ever changing vista. This little scene lasted just minutes before disappearing into a foggy grey once more.
I took a few versions of this shot focussing on different aspects of the scene. One focussed close on the bare twigs in the foreground, but this particular one locked on to the bird (a duck) flying through just above the refections.

A few days ago, we were finally allowed out in the big wide world again, so we celebrated with a fish and chip lunch in the car by the seaside down in Port MacDonnell. Lots of gulls (and a few gannets) joined us as we watched the approaching storm. After many months at home, we now have a sudden real appreciation of such a simple outing!
.....has a silver lining - or red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet lining in this case!
This early morning rainbow brought us some very welcome rain after our very dry summer. The fields around us are finally turning green again!
Another start to a perfect day at Mannum on the Murray river in South Australia as the sun just lifted into a sky with just a few wispy clouds. Some welcome swallows were darting about in front of me just off the surface of the lagoon, and above and behind me, the dawn chorus was in full swing with the Corellas and Galahs!

A galah and another small black bird are about as high up the tree as they can get to catch those first rays of warmth from the sun.
Taken on the plains around Keith in South Australia.
The foreground and birds flying past made for some interesting silhouettes to this wonderfully stormy bakground that was just catching the last light of the sunset.

During a week of early rises to catch some sunrises and foggy mornings, this was one of the very nicest. A sea of fog lay beneath the stars as the intense colour slowly developed in the east.
Taken many years ago from when I lived in Stawell, this was taken from the town's small but nicely placed lookout atop Big Hill.

An Australian Black Swan spreading its wings as though in thanks for the warmth of a new day. I almost did the same myself as the first rays were very welcome with the temperature hovering around 1 degree C.

Another shot of an amazing sunset from a few months ago. It changed every second with crepuscular rays sweeping across the sky. A wonderful five minutes of natural art!

While I was out myself, taking shots of another glorious sunset, I noticed these three masked lapwings on my neighbour's roof-top, also seemingly staring at the incredible sunset. I think we all stood for another ten minutes, gazing to the west, mesmerised by the amazing colours. I have often wondered if other birds and animals have an appreciation of natural beauty, and now I am sure they do!
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Night thunderstorm offers some nice show over the city. This one made the surrounding antennas "scream" due to charge flow. That was close enough. Of course we keep ourselves safe and under shelter at any time. On the lower center-left part of the image, under the lightning and over the Acropolis, one can discern the moon behind dissipating clouds and thin rainshafts. Athens, Greece, Oct. 10, 2021.
