Caboose hop with South Shore GP38-2 is seen at the long gone Hammond crossover, in July 1988. South Shore used to accomplish interchange with the B&O at this location.

With all the intense heat and choking wildfire smoke we've had in the last two months, my half stained fence has remained that way. Now that the weather and air quality have improved, I'm racing to complete it before we start getting rain.
While I have seen virga of rain and, separately, of snow, I just learned today that the phenomena are an indication of a downburst.
The position of the sun in this photo from the Berkeley Hills shows the approximate position of the sun a week before the Winter Solstice. The Summer Solstice sunset will be over Sonoma County, as seen from this location.
