Your back's against the wall,

there's no one home to call,

you're forgetting who you are...

You can't stop crying!

It's part not giving in,

part trusting your friends,

you do it all again and I'm not lying

Oh oh oh

Standing in the way of control...

Yeah, live your lives

by the only way that you know, know

(Gossip, Standing in the way of control)

I bought this Acctim Radio-controlled clock from Robert Dyas. I could not get it to show anywhere near the correct time after several attempts - resetting it, leaving it to pick up a signal overnight, changing the battery, and switching it to a manual quartz clock and then back again. It was obviously picking up a radio signal but on each occasion that the hands stopped moving the time was several hours out.

I was about to return it to Robert Dyas when I decided to phone the manufacturers. The switchboard immediately told me that what you have to do is take out the battery, put it back the WRONG way round, leave it a few seconds, and then replace it the correct way round.

I tried this somewhat bizarre solution and the clock immediately worked perfectly. If this solution is so well known to the manufacturers that even the switchboard know of it, why can it not be included in the instructions?

As the New recruits get situated with the Flight Pods and controls, the Officer reminds them of a sequential rookie mistake that could cost them there lives!

Officer: Okay ladies remember always as soon as the Your shell comes down and the Flight pod comes on what do you do! you with the stupid face!

Troopgilroy: Uh put your seat belt on!

Officer: Almost correct, but no cigar! The lock mechanism! what good would a seat belt be in a flight pod! but your canopy shell lock! keeps you balanced and keeps it on which mean you safe from enemy fire!

I am dipping my toes into the world of the surreal. This is my first attempt.

Control is what people have to do every day...every moment...but becomes impossible sometimes, na? :)

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources and Conservation Service (NRCS) Stormwater management at this beach parking lot controls the quantity and quality of the rain and stormwater that runs off the parking lot in Town Neck Beach, Sandwich, MA, on October 10, 2019. The grade of the parking lot brings water into common channels at the ends and intermediate points. It enters a cement basin/channel where the water slows over cement ridges, rocks, and sand layers. The slower cleaner water disperses into the tidal wetlands. The process helps keeps debris and sand from entering the wildlife and shellfish habitat.

Stormwater Runoff Control (NRCS Conservation Practice 570) provides control of quantity and quality of runoff caused by construction operations at development sites, and by other land-disturbing activities

The purpose of this practice is to regulate the rate and amount of water runoff and sediment from development sites during and after construction operations, to minimize flooding, erosion, and sedimentation. The practice is used when there is a need to compensate for increased peak discharges and erosion resulting from construction operations at development sites or other disturbed areas needing this conservation practice. For more information about this, please see nrcs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb1255157.pdf

NRCS has a proud history of supporting America’s farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners. For more than 80 years, we have helped people make investments in their operations and local communities to keep working lands working, boost rural economies, increase the competitiveness of American agriculture, and improve the quality of our air, water, soil, and habitat.

As the USDA’s primary private lands conservation agency, we generate, manage, and share the data, technology, and standards that enable partners and policymakers to make decisions informed by objective, reliable science.

And through one-on-one, personalized advice, we work voluntarily with producers and communities to find the best solutions to meet their unique conservation and business goals. By doing so, we help ensure the health of our natural resources and the long-term sustainability of American agriculture.

Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC) is the Department’s focal point for the nation’s farmers and ranchers and other stewards of private agricultural lands and non-industrial private forest lands. FPAC agencies implement programs designed to mitigate the significant risks of farming through crop insurance services, conservation programs, and technical assistance, and commodity, lending, and disaster programs.

The agencies and services supporting FPAC are Farm Service Agency (FSA), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and Risk Management Agency (RMA).

1979, somewhere at sea between Los Angeles and Cape Town.

A grainy image of the engine control room, with 3/E at the 'helm'.

I joined this ship in Los Angeles, California on 04/01/1979 and signed off at Rotterdam, Netherlands on 29/05/1979, without getting ashore once.

This would be in the first decade or so, of electronic and hydraulically operated machinery, with computerised controls, compared to today's electronic marvels with full computerised temperature/pressure alarm systems and touchscreen operation of all engine room functions.

Shell had six ships in this Class, all built by Chantiers de L'Atlantique at St. Nazaire, between 1974 and 1976.

They were:

Labiosa 1975 (T25)

Latia 1974 (N25)

Latirus 1974 (M25)

Latona 1973 (E25)

Leda 1973 (F25)

Lucina 1974 (D25)

Labiosa, vessel details:

Keel laid on 06/01/1975, launched on 13/05/1975 and completed on 04/07/1975 by Chantiers de L'Atlantique (Penhoet-Loire), St. Nazaire, France (T25)

138,460 g.t. and 278,219 dwt., as:

'Labiosa' to 1981 and

'Autan' until sold to Bangladesh for demolition, arriving at Chittagong on 11/12/1999

All the time I should be there with you, but maybe I'm just searchin' for the truth

Motion control head I designed around a pair of surplus precision worm gearboxes. The vacuum infused carbon fibre covers are largely superficial/protective, they were my first experiment in directly CNC machining a mould. I machined the aluminium parts on my CNC router and anodized them at home.

Because the head was constructed around existing gearboxes its a little larger and heavier than I would like, weighing around 5KG but supporting loads upwards of 10kg.
