Continuing on my journey in the snow with the F3 and 105mm MicroNikkor, was able to look at various details from some interesting lighting. I like this lens because the continuous focus from infinity to macro distances is really flexible. Thanks to all those flickeranians who continue to inspire and display their images. By the way, I'm looking at expanding films, especially higher speed B&W. If anyone has film/developer combos they particularly like, please let me know. I have done my share of experimentation, but would love to hear what others use.
This morning I continued to work on this painting. My reference is a vacation photo from a family trip to Colorado in July of 1978. (The photo is posted here February 26.) Today I worked on the clouds and softened the color of the field in the foreground. But I spent most of the time adding some reddish-brown to the mountains, to try to areas in deep shadow from areas that are getting sun.
A small group of MIT Sloan students interested in social ventures came by today. After they talked about Samasource with Leila for a while, we had them finish the crowdsourced sign we made for the holiday party: www.flickr.com/photos/nargopolis/4193922041/

Continuing on my big and bold theme, I chose "Graceful Grasses King Tut" papyrus as the centrepiece. Around the edges are my ever-reliable "Goldilocks" creeping jenny and some "Zinfandel" volcanic sorrel. Filling in the gaps are some "Madness Yellow" and "Madness Red" petunias.
In Stoke Newington Church Street Friday stopped. He stared long and hard at this pub sign. Suddenly, he decided to go into the pub. He singled out the biggest man in the room, put his arms around him and shouted "Dad!".
This proved to be a mistake.
Continuing my long tradition of never seeing the mountain in person without at least some cloud cover obscuring the mountain (though this is the least amount of cloud yet).

In continuing puppy socialization adventures, we took Moqui to the Boulder Farmer's Market this morning. We brought Savannah along as well, though she's not a social girl who welcomes pets from just anyone. We discovered that as of June 1, dogs will be barred from the farmer's market, so I'm glad we're getting a little socialization opportunity.
It was predictably hard to make any progress through the market, given how many people wanted to gush over Moqui. :)
This is not a 'true' picture, because there's no way I'd ever let Savannah off the leash in this kind of crowd. Leash photoshopped out.

The School of Continuing Education contacted Visual Design to create a series of Illustrations that would appeal to children for their College for Kids campaign.
This College for Kids Panther is spreading the word about UWM by drawing the University logo in chalk. Now, there's some school spirit for you!
Added a birdbath, which as you can see, is not for the birds anymore, they always bathe in the stream anyway, filled with hen and chicks and gold moss and a pot yet to be planted. A cart(which is another WIP need to be)I picked up at the flea market(8.00) last year. Already bought the pressure treated wood to re-build it with. What color should I paint it? As for the flowers; I have moved some daffodils(the brown things) A butterfly bush(this side of the cart) a hot pink wave petunia, to the right and out of the frame red and pink amaryllis. To the left so far, some rose campions and a hydrangea...
We loved hosting a CME event with Dr. John Kresl. We had a blast sharing and learning the latest CyberKnife information!

Quilting in a somewhat freehand 1x1 diamond. I mean really it's exactly the same as a 1x1 square grid just done sideways/on point/diagonal as to the quilt face.
I quilted the first two long diagonals (all the way from corner to corner) across the very middle just using the corners of the square piecing to guide me. now I am going back and adding in lines roughly every inch but I'm not laying tape, I'm just following a loose guide that I am occasionally veering off from here and there (not intentionally but not worrying when I do).
so if you see some of the continuation of the lines off to the quilt there are plenty of lumps and bumps and waves and squiggles in them. but hopefully as the grid fills in, it will noticeably be a grid albeit a very uneven somewhat freeform one (although nowhere near as FREEform as the word freeform would really mean).
I wasn't sure after just a few lines but now I am starting to love it. Starting to. I mean 4 bobbins in and I've barely quilted any of it. This sucker is going to take forever and ever.
