Urquhart Castle sits beside Loch Ness in the Highlands of Scotland. The castle is on the A82 road, 21 kilometres (13 mi) south-west of Inverness and 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) east of the village of Drumnadrochit.

The present ruins date from the 13th to the 16th centuries, though built on the site of an early medieval fortification. Founded in the 13th century, Urquhart played a role in the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century. It was subsequently held as a royal castle, and was raided on several occasions by the MacDonald Earls of Ross. The castle was granted to the Clan Grant in 1509, though conflict with the MacDonalds continued. Despite a series of further raids the castle was strengthened, only to be largely abandoned by the middle of the 17th century. Urquhart was partially destroyed in 1692 to prevent its use by Jacobite forces, and subsequently decayed. In the 20th century it was placed in state care and opened to the public: it is now one of the most-visited castles in Scotland.

The 2021 U.S. Army Small Arms Championships continues here at the Home of Champions. Today's highlight match was National Match Course EIC/Director’s Match.

The Match 11 course of fire included four stages with a total of 50 rounds. Stage One

was shot from the standing position at a slow rate of fire from 200 yards and required a

total of 10 rounds within ten minutes. Stage Two was a rapid fire of 60 seconds in the

sitting/kneeling position from 200 yards. It incorporated a magazine change after two

rounds were fired. Stage Three was a 10-round rapid fire in the prone within 70

seconds from standing from 300 yards, with a magazine change. Stage Four was a

slow fire in the prone from 500 yards. Twenty rounds had to be fire within 20 minutes.

Match 7 was also held today. This rifle match consisted of five stages in combat

equipment. Stage One was a precision slow fire from 500 yards. Competitors fired ten

single-loaded shots from the prone position within 12 minutes. Stage Two began with

the competitors advancing to the 400-yard line. They then engaged the target from the

prone position with ten single-fed rounds. All of this was done within 90 seconds. Stage

Three began with an advancement to the 300-yard line. Competitors then engaged

targets with ten single-fed rounds from the prone firing position … All within 90 seconds.

Competitors then moved to Stage Four where they advanced to the 200-yard line and

engaged their targets with ten single-fed rounds in the kneeling or squatting position

within 90 seconds. In the final stage, Stage 5, competitors advanced to the 100-yard

line, engaged their targets with ten single-fed rounds in the kneeling position within 90

seconds. How’s that for a workout?

The Loma Fire continues to burn wildly over the Santa Cruz Mountains at sunset. It's a sad sight indeed. We need rain badly. Praying for the firefighters out there...

It may be the beginning of autumn but California's raging wildfire season was still going strong... Now this day, a new fire had started to blaze in the Santa Cruz Mountains... Cal Fire crews have responded to a fast-moving vegetation fire burning on the Loma Prieta ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains, with the potential to burn 1,000 acres by Monday night. At least 300 structures were threatened, which is in proximity to television towers. Evacuations were in effect along Summit, Mount Madonna and Croy Ridge roads. About 300 people have evacuated the area.

A column of billowing black smoke was seen from as far away as Downtown San Jose. The fire was burning in steep inaccessible terrain covered in dry, drought-stressed vegetation. The fire broke out at around 2:45 p.m. in the area of Loma Prieta and Loma Chiquita roads off of Summit Road. The area is north of the border between Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. At the same time, a statewide heat wave had baked even coastal cities. Gradual relief from the heat was expected to start by Wednesday or so. The Loma Fire was 5% contained as of 9:30 p.m. and the wildfire had the potential to spread as much as 5,000 acres overnight into Tuesday...

This month's FP4Party, I decided to take a more focused approach on the party and decided to explore three different areas that make up the original sections of Oakville. Starting at George Square, what is considered 'Old Oakville' continues north along Trafalgar Road. While not as many historic homes occupy this strech there are a few notable buildings such as Potter's Folly and the Kerosene Castle. Also the old Oakville Trafalgar High School which still stands empty today.

As the world continues to grow, there are more mouths to feed. With emerging markets, biotechnology in the agricultural sector contributes to market stability and aids in providing the resources necessary to continue economic growth in the developing world. On every continent, these shifts are apparent and farmers and the agribusiness are striving to adapt accordingly. From drought resistant seeds in Africa to growing metropolitan areas in South America, agribusiness is engineering, not only food production, but also energy, medicine, and materials in order to change the landscape on multiple levels.

On Feb 6, 2019, Continuing Education instructors and staff got together for a day of learning and development.

I continue my proud and patriotic tradition of playing well and being a serious tryhard in non-competitive tanks. Just like the God-awful Centurion 1 before it (which I loved anyway) I made my second mark of excellence. God save the queen and all, I might even keep this one after I get the Action X centurion which is still the most competitive British tank since the Cromwell.

Tomorrow is my 59th birthday. It's custom to bring in your own treat in to work. I made the cake and wish I could share some with my friends. Hurry!

Random shots of the trailer conversion showing the completed demolition of the inside walls, the entry tile and flooring materials that will be getting installed in the next few days. Also a shot of Cassie's new haircut, some of the "master's" woodshop and etc ...

I am glad for the shifts that have shook us to the core and left us to resettle in different shapes. Perhaps we were too comfortable in false and impermanent forms, and now are forced to re-explore our insides. I like the dark hallways, despite all the messy broken walls, the hanging wires, the fluttering paper of discarded lives. These shadowy vestiges are not beautiful in a glossy and perfected way but are so much more interesting to come upon, to climb through. They are not bathed in warm yellow light, full of polished windows and manicured greenery, they are overcome with private scrawls and decorated with unruly vines. But I like to see the sparkling light burst through these shattered windows, these doors propped precariously in their frames. I like the permeation of the tattered, dirty blinds with light that spreads across grimy walls and illuminates in a way that leaves room for questions, for private musings and secret self-expression. I light the thrill of the shadows sloping down a paint-peeled stairwell; continue this way.

LOS ANGELES - In response to the fact that African American and Latino communities continue to be disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) embarked on a new national “AIDS is a Civil Rights Issue” public awareness campaign intended to highlight this health disparity as well as to emphasize the fact that access to HIV prevention, care and treatment for HIV/AIDS should be universal.

As part of its campaign, AHF teamed locally for a Los Angeles area ‘Day of Action’ on Sunday, February 23rd with area partners Pastor Kelvin Sauls and the Holman United Methodist Church (the location for the Day of Action), KJLH-Radio, NAACP-LA Chapter, as well as with the group, In The Meantime Men whose mission is, “…to enrich, empower, and extend the lives of intergenerational black men, respectful of sexual orientation, through social, educational, health and wellness programs and services.”

The ‘Day of Action’ took place Sunday, February 23rd. The events—which mark both Black History Month and the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964—included a church service (broadcasted live on KJLH Radio) at Holman United Methodist Church, a keynote address by Reverend Al Sharpton and remarks by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. The church service was followed by an ‘AIDS is a Civil Rights Issue’ town hall panel discussion moderated by KJLH Radio’s Dominique DiPrima and featuring Hydeia Broadbent, an HIV/AIDS activist & humanitarian HIV-positive since birth as well as several respected local community, political, heath, religious and HIV/AIDS leaders exploring the fact that African Americans & Latinos continue to be disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS. The ‘Day of Action’ culminated with concert featuring the Holman Choir on site.
