The Royal Victoria Dock is the largest of three docks in the Royal Docks of east London, now part of the redeveloped Docklands.
Opened in 1855 on a previously uninhabited area of the Plaistow Marshes, it was the first of the Royal Docks and the first London dock to be designed specifically to accommodate large steam ships. It was also the first to use hydraulic power to operate its machinery and the first to be connected to the national railway network via what is now the North London Line. It consisted of a main dock and a basin to the west, providing an entrance to the Thames on the western side of the complex. The dock was deeply indented with four solid piers, each 152 m long by 43 m wide, on which were constructed two-storey warehouses. Other warehouses, granaries, shed and storage buildings surrounded the dock, which had a total of 3.6 km of quays.
The dock was an immediate commercial success, as it could easily accommodate all but the very largest steamships. By 1860, it was already taking over 850,000 tons of shipping a year - double that of the London Docks, four times that of St Katharine Docks and 70% more than the West India Dock and East India Docks combined. It was badly damaged by German bombing in World War II but experienced a resurgence in trade following the war. However, from the 1960s onwards, the Royal Victoria experienced a steady decline - as did all of London's other docks - as the shipping industry adopted containerization, which effectively moved traffic downstream to Tilbury. It finally closed to commercial traffic along with the other Royal Docks in 1980.
The Royal Victoria Dock has experienced major redevelopment under the London Docklands Development Corporation. The dock itself still exists and is accessible to ships, although its western entrance has been filled in and it is now used chiefly for watersports. Its transport links have been greatly improved with new roads and Docklands Light Railway lines running along both its north and south side.
Most of the original warehouses have been demolished but the historic 19th century K-S and W Warehouses - both listed buildings - have survived.
The dock is dominated by the ExCeL Exhibition Centre, constructed on the north quayside and opened in November 2000, and by the adjacent high level Royal Victoria Dock Bridge. The waterside location of ExCel is used to its advantage when it hosts the annual London Boat Show, with visiting vessels moored alongside the exhibition centre.
On the south side of the Dock is Britannia Village. The award winning development, which included the high level footbridge, was commissioned by LDDC and carried out by Wimpey Homes, the Peabody Trust and the East Thames Housing Group between 1994 and 2000. Phase II of the project was left to the LDDC’s successors. This was a development around the Pontoon Dock to include a village centre with mixed development of business, retail and leisure facilities and up to 700 new homes. Now the responsibility of the London Development Agency, this development is now known as Silvertown Quays

Procedures and Processing of the Customs Documents
Pre- arrival Declaration help too to avoid storage please use it and be a family of the process. ’’Pre-arrival Declaration” was introduced in Tanzania to allow importers submit import declarations before the arrival of cargoes so that customs can conduct documentary examination in advance.
The importer present the proforma invoice to the Clearing Agent, the same being lodged to TISCAN/COTECNA very early while the goods were not exported. Once you receive bill of lading, make sure you scan it while is still at the country of export, let say at Shanghai China. Scan your Bill of Lading, Invoices, and other documents related to your importation send them through email to your agent to lodge them to TISCAN/COTECNA for an approval of your proforma invoice, and IO shall be issued by TISCAN/COTECNA Tanzania; by doing that, you will come to realize that, while containers are still on the way. You will pay duties or other charges at Customs and paying NIL STORAGE at port
To start Customs procedures while the cargo has arrived at port welcomes quarrelling between Importer, Agent and the TISCAN/COTECNA unknowingly the source of delay of procedures

An abandoned freight track in Central Stockholm!
The railroad stretches from Södra(South) Station to Hammarby-hamnen(-harbour).
In the pre containerization days alot of goods where being unloaded everywhere in the port of stockholm but now it's concentrated to a few areas and this railroad has been disused since the old dock area in Hammarby has been rebuilt with housing complexes close to the water.
What finally cealed the railroads fate was the legal aftermath of 9/11 when harbour's became off limits to outsiders. This railroad connects Saltsjöbanan with the main rail network but it passes through a restricted area where the cruise ships dock so it's use has effectively been discointinued and the closing became a mere formality.
Roughly 500m ahead though on the other side of the next tunnel is the most traficked part of the entire Swedish Railroad network as ll trains moving south from Stockholm Central has to pass that point at Södra Station.
Up untill the 1980's Södra station was an open air goods terminal with alot of freight trains and trafic to places like Hammarbyhamnen. But from the late 1980's the area has been rebuilt with housing and the remaining part of Södra station which serves local commuters is decked over with housing hiding it's pressence making it more of a Subway station.
As can be seen this railroad used to be electrified but that was discontinued long before the railroad was put in disuse. I can only speculatre it was because diesel locomotives where most often needed anyway to trafick the actual harbor and industry areas.
As a sie note during the Second World war many Finnish war wounded where taken by train from the ships to a special station right under Södersjukhuset (South Hospital) where they where treated. Sweden gave alot of supoport to Finland during it's both wars with Stalin from 1939-40 and was part of their medical services taking on the most greviously injured soldiers.

The pier was constructed between 1912 and 1915 by the Melbourne Harbour Trust to supplement the adjacent Station Pier (originally the 'Railway Pier'). From completion in 1915 until 1969 it was also a major arrival point for new migrants, particularly during the post-war period. In addition to a pier, there was a gatehouse and barriers, terminal building, amenities rooms, goods lockers, ablution blocks, railway sidings and passenger gangways.
From opening the pier was linked by rail to the Port Melbourne railway line, via double lines branching from the Melbourne side of Graham station. Eight railway tracks ran onto the bridge, four along either face. A passenger rail service was provided to the pier from 30 May 1921 operated by suburban electric trains. Provided when ships were docked at the pier, it was usually operated by a single double ended 'swing door' motor car until ended in November 1930, as it was not financially rewarding to the Victorian Railways. The overhead wiring was removed on 17 August 1953 and the line singled and worked as a siding from 21 March 1961.
With the containerization boom the pier became unused, being closed to public access in the early 1990's due to the poor timber condition, and squatters caused a fire in the late 1990s that destroyed the store structures. In the three years to 2004, 14 more fires destroyed the historic structure.
