District-wide support of the annual catastrophic disaster response exercise included internal drills and table-top exercises to assess the command’s capability to execute mission essential functions and provide external support to the State of Hawaii / JTF-HD in the event of a Category 4 hurricane impact to the Hawaiian Islands.
One important capability of the District’s disaster response is utilization of a Containerized Tactical Operations Center (CTOC). The containerized system provides a rapidly deployable tactical operations and communications platform for first responders where there are no available facilities or communications capabilities.

Oregon Army National Guard food service Soldiers with the 1249th Engineer Battalion partnered with culinary arts students from the Career Technical Education Center for a two-day "Chopped Challenge" cook-off June 4-5, 2026, in Salem, Oregon.
Using two Army Containerized Kitchens — mobile field kitchen systems each capable of feeding 800 Soldiers — students worked in four teams per day across two shifts. During each iteration, one team prepared an entrée while the other prepared an appetizer, all under the mentorship of Guard culinary specialists.
Headquartered at the Anderson Readiness Center in Salem, the 1249th Engineer Battalion specializes in construction, contracting, medical operations, and engineering. The partnership gave future chefs hands-on experience with military-grade equipment while showcasing the Guard's expeditionary food service capability.
CTEC pairs rigorous academic standards with industry-aligned skills to prepare students for high-wage, high-demand careers in the Willamette Valley.

I have four lemon trees, all containerized because of the zone I live in AND to control their size. They have to be brought indoors during the winter. You haven't experienced natural decorating until you have lemon trees inside your home in the winter, lol.
Here, my Eurekas are just starting to turn and be ready to harvest. This is a small one, there's one that's close to ready that's as big as a softball. There are about 13 or more on the tree right now.
I have an Eureka, a Sambo, and two Meyer (my favorite!) lemon trees. I love using their zest and juice in marinating and cooking/baking. I also love to take some of my Meyer's and preserve them.
