My regular commute used to leave me standing underneath the old Transbay Terminal overpasses near Mission St.; on the Fremont St. side, cycling rainbow lights had been installed in-between the girders to give it a bit of colour. Waiting for buses was less of a drag when there was stuff to shoot - see here, here and here. The old on-ramps are nearly gone completely, and the top of the old building is being trimmed off the top, creating this weirdly pleasant open gazebo-type-thing that's going to hover over the road (until it is demolished itself). I'd never really been fond of this area (it was dark, unbelievably stinky and depressing) but now, here in it's dusty and half-deconstructed state, I actually kind of like it. For what it's worth, it's awesome seeing direct sunlight on bits of road that probably haven't seen any for decades.

The official demolition announcement of most of the "villas" at Satwa was made in October 2008 unveiling its replacement by a luxurious city-garden.
...closely resembles the historic structure. I took this shot when the edifice still was under construction.
Their families have stayed behind. The luckiest ones will go home every year but most of them can only afford to go back once every two years.
The area of Satwa, five minutes away from Sheikh Zayed prestigious street, is marked for razing. It is going to be replaced by Jumeirah Gardens City, a Dhrs 350 billion project.

Viewed from the temporary footbridge over the railway at Jumble Lane crossing which is closed to traffic until building work has been completed.
It's only 50 years since they started the last major redevelopment in Barnsley. Just goes to show that they don't build things to last these days, unlike the Town Hall.........now that's a proper building!
