They do major overhauls on the tram tracks close to my home. They close the line with the last tram on Friday. Start on Saturday morning ripping out all tracks and ground work, laying the new tracks on Sunday morning and start attaching the new track with concrete on Sunday afternoon.
Monday morning, the trams run nearly normal again.
They manage to get around 200 - 300 metres of track replaced over one weekend.
A bed space is not a space to put a bed but an empty bed, often only a wooden plate without mattress, or even a space on the floor of an overcrowded room.

Well, here's the problem; any archeological excavation is to be payed by the owner of the land. This is percieved as expensive, and there _are_ large sums we're talking about; for the place pictured here (five minutes walk from Stabby Backe) my estimation is that it would cost around one million dollars - if the archeologists are happy with an average salary and don't use any advanced technology. (There are ways to make it cheaper.) Builders are bound by law to initiate an excavation if there are known findings on the site, or if they find any during construction.
The temptation to "not find anything" on a site is strong, in other words. Big builders may be echonomical about their project, small builders may not have the money at all. I don't know if the flat top mound of Stabby Backe is dug away, since we hade a lot of trouble finding it (it _may_ be hiding in a bush somewhere). On the other hand I stumbled across many cases where people lied about findings to save money, and I'm prone to rush to conclusions. A small bowery may not be a project where people think an excavation is needed.

But only for a while. The major reconstruction work which is going on at the moment will reshape the the most central area of Wuppertal. The best thing is: No historic buildings have to be sacrifeced (since they are already gone).
The building in the background is the savings bank tower. It was opened in 1973. Architect is Paul Schneider-Esleben.
We just need a rope on these wooden planks and then we have a draw bridge that we can pull up to keep intruders out.
The dismantling of the Art Nouveau train shed (and of the terminus station) is on its way. Both will soon be replaced with new structures which will look pretty much like the old ones.
This is part of a huge renovation project which started in 1995. The complete infrastructure of the 13.3 km long monorail line had to be replaced after 100 years of service. About 95% of this undertaking have already been finished. As of July 2012 the dismantling and reconstruction of the eastern terminus of the line has begun. This includes the renewal of the train shed with the storage sidings. The shed will be replaced by a modern construction which will be designed more or less in the traditional style. It will be much longer than the existing hall.
