Cavendish Mews is a smart set of flats in Mayfair where flapper and modern woman, the Honourable Lettice Chetwynd has set up home after coming of age and gaining her allowance. To supplement her already generous allowance, and to break away from dependence upon her family, Lettice has established herself as a society interior designer, so her flat is decorated with a mixture of elegant antique Georgian pieces and modern Art Deco furnishings, using it as a showroom for what she can offer to her well heeled clients.

 

Concerned about her beau, Selwyn Spencely’s, true affections for her, and worried about the threat his cousin and 1923 debutante, Pamela Fox-Chavers, posed to her own potential romantic plans with Selwyn, Lettice concocted a ruse to spy on Pamela and Selwyn at the Royal Horticultural Society’s 1923 Great Spring Show*. As luck would have it, Lettice ran into Pamela and Selwyn, quite literally in the latter’s case, and they ended up having tea together. Whilst not the appropriate place to talk about Selwyn’s mother, Lady Zinnia, whom Lettice suspects of arranging a match between Selwyn and Pamela, who are cousins, Selwyn has agreed to organise a dinner with Lettice where they can talk openly about the future of their relationship and the interference of Lady Zinnia. However, whilst Lettice waits for the dinner to be arranged, she has a wonderful distraction to take her mind off things.

 

That is why today we are far from London, returning to Wiltshire, where Lettice grew up at Glynes, the grand Georgian family seat of the Chetwynds, and the home of Lettice’s parents, the presiding Viscount and Countess of Wrexham and the heir, their eldest son Leslie and his new wife Arabella. However, we are not at Glynes, but rather in Glynes Village at the local village hall where a much loved annual tradition is taking place. Every year the village have a summer fête, run by the local women and overseen by Lettice’s mother, Lady Sadie, to help raise money for a worthy cause in the village. The summer fête is one of the highlights of the village and country calendar as it always includes a flower show, a cake stand, stalls run by local famers’ wives selling homemade produce, games of hoopla, a coconut shy, a tombola and a jumble sale, a white elephant stall and a fortune teller – who is always local haberdasher Mrs. Maginot who has a theatrical bent and manages the Glynes theatrical players as well as her shop in the village high street. All the stalls and entertainments are held either in the village hall or the grounds surrounding it. Not only do the citizens of the village involve themselves in the fête, but also the gentry, and there is always much excitement when matriarch of the Brutons, Lady Gwyneth – Gerald’s mother, and Lady Isobel Tyrwhitt – Arabella’s mother, attend. Neither lady have been well over the last few years with Lady Gwyneth suffering a spate of bronchial infections and Lady Isobel receiving treatment for cancer, so it is a rare treat to have both in attendance. This year’s summer fête is a special one for Arabella in particular, for as the newly minted Mrs. Leslie Chetwynd, she now joins the effort to help run the Glynes summer fête for the first time and has been given the second-hand clothing stall to run as part of the jumble sale.

 

The Glynes village hall is a hive of activity, and the cavernous space resounds with running footsteps, voluble chatter from the mostly female gathering, hammering and children’s laughter and tears as they run riot around the adults as they set up their stalls. Mr. Lovegrove, who runs the village shop, climbs a ladder which is held by the elderly church verger Mr. Lewis and affixes the brightly coloured Union Jacks and bunting that have been used every year since the King’s Coronation in 1911 around the walls. Lady Sadie casts a critical eye over the white elephant stall, rearranging items to put what she considers the best quality items on more prominent display, whilst removing a select few pieces which she thinks unsuitable for sale, which she passes to Newman, her ladies maid, to dispose of. Bramley, the Chetwynd’s butler arranges and categorises books for the second-hand book stall, perhaps spending a little too much time perusing some of the titles. Mrs. Elliott who runs the Women’s Institute manages the influx of local women bringing in cakes with regimental efficiency. And amongst all the noise, activity and excitement, Arabella busies herself unpacking boxes of old clothes and tries her best to make her trestle an attractive addition to the summer fête. Lettice perches on an old bentwood chair, offering suggestions to her sister-in-law whilst pulling faces as she lifts up various donations before depositing them in disgust where they had been beforehand.

 

“Here we are then,” Gerald announces as he walks across the busy floor of the hall bearing a wooden tray containing several teacups and a plate of cupcakes from the refreshments stand, narrowly avoiding Mrs. Lovegrove’s two youngest children as they chase one another around his legs. The sound of his jolly call and his footsteps joining all the other cacophony of setting up going on around him. “Refreshments for the hard workers,” he looks at Arabella. “And the not-so-hard-workers.” he looks at Lettice.

 

“Don’t be cheeky!” Lettice says to him with a hard stare, letting a limp stocking fall from her hand and collapse into a wrinkled pool on the trestle table’s surface.

 

Gerald puts the three tea cups down where he can find a surface on Arabella’s trestle table, followed by a long blue and gilt edged platter on which sit three very festive cupcakes featuring Union Jacks made of marzipan sticking out of white clouds of icing.

 

“Mrs. Casterton’s special cupcakes.” he announces proudly with a beaming smile.

 

“How on earth did you get those, Gerald?” gasps Lettice in surprise, eyeing the dainty cakes greedily. “Mrs. Casterton hasn’t let me take food from her kitchen since I started dining at the table with the rest of the family, never mind pinch anything from her stall for the fundraiser!”

 

“It helps when you aren’t her employer’s indulged youngest child.” Gerald says, tapping his nose knowingly.

 

“I was not an indulged child!” Lettice defends, raising her hand to the boat neckline of her frock and grasping her single strand of creamy white pearls hanging about her neck. “You were more indulged by Aunt Gwen than I ever was by Mater or Pater.”

 

“Oh, just ignore him, Tice!” laughs Arabella from her place behind the trestle. “You know Gerald has always had the ability to charm anything from anyone when he wants to.”

 

“That’s true,” Lettice replies, eyeing Gerald with a cocked eyebrow and a bemused smile as she picks up her magenta and gilt rimmed cup and sips her tea. “I had forgotten that.”

 

“What can I say?” laughs Gerald proudly with a shrug of his shoulders.

 

“It’s not so much what you can say as what you can do, Gerald.” mutters Arabella with a frustrated sigh.

 

“I am at your service, my lady?” Gerald replies, making a sweeping bow before Arabella and Lettice, who both laugh at his jester like action.

 

“Be careful what you promise, Gerald.” giggles Lettice.

 

“Bella would never expect too much from me, Lettice.” Gerald retorts with a smile. “She’s known me all her life and she knows what my limitations are.”

 

“Well, I was hoping you could help me by working some magic on my second hand clothing stall.” Arabella remarks with another frustrated sigh as she tugs at the old fashioned shirtwaister** blouse with yellowing lace about the collar. “I’ve tried and tried all morning, but nothing I seem to do helps make anything look more modern and more attractive to buy.”

 

Lettice and Gerald look around at Arabella’s stall. The shirtwaister outfit with its pretty, albeit slightly marked, lace, tweed skirt and leather belt with a smart, yet old fashioned Art Nouveau buckle really is the most attractive piece that she has on display. Around it on the surface of her trestle are a jumble of yellowing linen napkins complete with tarnished napkin rings, a selection of embroidered, tatted*** and crocheted doilies, mismatched pairs of leather and lace gloves and several rather worn looking hats that are really only suitable for gardening now, rather than being worn to church services on Sunday.

 

“I warned you Gerald.” Lettice says with a knowing wink.

 

“Don’t you remember how much we all felt sorry for whomever ran the second-hand clothing stall at the fête each year as children, Bella?” Gerald asks.

 

“It was always the short straw.” Lettice adds.

 

“Yes, being stuck under the piercing stare of His Majesty.” Gerald indicates to the portrait of King George V, dating back to the pre-war years when the King still had colour in his hair.

 

“The worst stall to have because none of the villagers ever seem to have anything nice or remotely fashionable to donate, even for a good cause like new books for the village school.” Lettice picks up a pretty primrose yellow napkin. “These are nice at least.”

 

“Except there are only three of them.” points out Arabella with a disappointed air. “I can’t seem to find a fourth.” She picks up a red dyed straw hat in the vain hope that it will be there, even though she has searched beneath it three times already. “And I’ve looked everywhere.”

 

“Tea for two, perhaps?” Gerald suggests hopefully as he picks up his own teacup and takes a sip of tea.

 

“Oh, you two are no help!” scoffs Arabella. “I’ve a right mind to stick you both with these!” She grasps a pair of knitting needles complete with some rather dreadfully made rows of incomplete knitting and a ball of wool and thrusts them through the air between she, Lettice, and Gerald. “They’ll get you working.”

 

“Even if they do, Bella, we aren’t miracle workers.” remarks Gerald.

 

All three of them laugh good heartedly.

 

“Oh I must make the best of it,” Arabella sighs resignedly as she tugs at the left leg-of-mutton sleeve**** of the shirtwaister. “After all, this is my first year as Leslie’s wife, and the first jumble sale I am actively helping to run to help raise funds for the village. I must make this stall a success no matter what.” The steely determination in her voice surprises her as she speaks. “I’m a Chetwynd now, and I can’t disappoint the villagers with a poor show.”

 

“Nor Mater.” adds Lettice, taking another sip of tea.

 

“No indeed!” agrees Gerald. “Lady Sadie will be judging you from afar, Bella, rest assured. If your stall isn’t a great success, you’ll hear about it.”

 

“In a dozen little quips.” Lettice adds.

 

“More like a hundred.” corrects Gerald.

 

“Tearing delicately phrased strips off you.” agrees Lettice.

 

“Inflicting as much pain for as long as possible.” adds Gerald with seriousness.

 

“Oh stop, Gerald!” laughs Arabella. “She isn’t anywhere near as much of a dragon as you and Tice paint her to be.”

 

“You’ve only been married to the family for a little while now,” Lettice counters, looking at her sister-in-law over the magenta and gilt painted rim of her cup. “And you and Leslie have your own lives and are left pretty much to your own devices down in the Glynes Dower House from what I can gather. We’ll give you a little while longer to find out the truth about your wicked mother-in-law.” She smiles cheekily.

 

“I have grown up alongside you, going in and out of your house, Tice,” Arabella replies with a dismissive wave of her hand. “So it’s not like Sadie is an unknown quantity to me.”

 

“But you’ve never been a recipient of her acerbic tongue either, I’ll wager.” adds Gerald dourly. “You’re far too sweet and compliant a young daughter-in-law for that, but both Lettice and I have.”

 

“I still don’t know,” Lettice queries, turning her attention to Gerald. “What was it you said to Mater that night of Hunt Ball that set her so against you, Gerald? I’ve never known her to take against anyone so vehemently, except perhaps poor Aunt Egg who can never do any right in her eyes.”

 

Gerald blushes, remembering the altercation he had with Lettice’s mother, Lady Sadie, at the ball. In a slightly inebriated state he told her that neither she nor Lettice had any sway over Selwyn Spencely’s choice of a wife, any more than Selwyn did himself, explaining that it was his mother, the Duchess of Mumford, Lady Zinnia, who would choose a wife for him. “I keep telling you, darling girl. I really don’t remember,” he replies awkwardly, covering his tracks as best as he can. “If you remember, I was rather tight***** that night on your father’s champagne.”

 

“Well,” Arabella says with a sigh. “I’m determined not to incur her wrath, even though I’m sure it’s nowhere near as awful as you two suggest.”

 

“Oh-oh!” Gerald mutters under his breath to Lettice. “In coming.”

 

“Oh no.” moans Lettice quietly in return behind the painted smile she places on her face as she, Gerald and Arabella are suddenly set upon by the Miss Evanses, the two spinster sisters who live in Holland House, a Seventeenth Century manor house in the village.

 

The trio smile benignly as the two sisters twitter to one another in crackling voices that sound like crisp autumn leaves underfoot as they approach them.

 

“Well, twice in as many weeks, Miss Chetwynd!” exclaims the younger of the Miss Evanses in delight, a joyous smile spreading across her dry, unpainted lips. “Last week at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Great Spring Show, and now here! How very blessed we are to see you again.”

 

“How do you do, Miss Evans, Miss Evans,” Lettice acknowledges them both with a curt nod from her seat. She glances at the two old women, who must be in their seventies at least, both dressed in a similar style to when she saw them last week at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Great Spring Show, in floral gowns of pre-war Edwardian era length, their equally old fashioned whale bone S-bend corsets****** forcing their breasts into giant monobosoms down which sautoirs******* of glittering Edwardian style beads on gold chains cascade. Wearing toques with feather aigrettes jutting out of them atop their waved white hair they look like older versions of Queen Mary.

 

“I’m afraid you are a little early for the jumble sale, Miss Evans and Miss Evans,” Arabella remarks sweetly. “We are still setting up.”

 

“Oh, thank you! We know, Mrs. Chetwynd.” twitters the elder of the Miss Evanses, surprising Arabella a little as she still gets used to being referred to by her new married name. “I was just remarking to Henrietta this very morning over breakfast that we do so much look forward to the village fête every year.”

 

“Yes, it’s a nice way for us to be able to support the local community in our own small way, isn’t that right Geraldine?” enthuses her sister, raising her white lace glove clad hand to her wrinkled and dry mouth as she giggles in a rather unseemly girlish way.

 

“Indeed yes, Henrietta. It is to aid the school this year, is it not?”

 

“It is Miss Evans.” Arabella confirms. “To help buy new books for the children.”

 

“A very fine cause, I must say,” the younger of the Miss Evanses remarks indulgently. “Helping the young ones to read and develop their fertile minds. Rather like gardening, wouldn’t you say?”

 

“It is not even remotely like gardening!” quips her sister. “Stop talking such nonsense Henrietta.”

 

“We shall of course be glad of your patronage when the jumble sale opens in an hour.” Arabella quickly says in an effort to diffuse any unpleasantness between the two spinster sisters, at the same time emphasising the time the sale begins.

 

“Well,” adds the elder of the Miss Evanses seriously. “We shall of course come and spend a few shillings and pence when it opens officially, but…”

 

“Oh!” interrupts the younger of the Miss Evanses. “Is your frock designed by Master Bruton, Miss Chetwynd?” She addresses Gerald in the old fashioned deference of the village and county folk when addressing the children of the bigger aristocratic houses.

 

“Yes, Miss Evans. Mr. Bruton,” Lettice applies gravatas to the correct reference to Gerald’s name now that he is of age. “Did design my frock.”

 

“Oh it’s ever so smart!” the younger of the sisters enthuses.

 

“Thank you, Miss Evans.” Gerald acknowledges her.

 

“And your hat?” Miss Evans points to the yellow straw hat. “Didn’t I see you wearing that at Master Leslie’s wedding to Miss Arabella?”

 

“Mrs. Chetwynd, I think you mean, Henrietta.” corrects her sister with a sharpness to her remark.

 

“Oh yes!” bristles the younger Miss Evans at her sister’s harsh correction, raising her hand to her mouth again. “Yes of course! Mrs. Chetwynd, I do apologise.”

 

“It’s quite alright, Miss Evans.” Arabella assures her. “I am still getting used to being Mrs. Chetwynd myself.”

 

“How very observant of you, Miss Evans.” Lettice addresses the younger of the siblings. “I did indeed have my hat made for Leslie and Bella’s wedding. It was made by a friend of Mr. Bruton’s, Miss Harriet Milford.”

 

“Yes, well thinking of hats, I…” begins the elder Miss Evans.

 

“Oh it’s most becoming, Miss Chetwynd.” the younger Miss Evans interrupts her sister again as she compliments Lettice in an obsequious manner, followed by another twittering giggle.

 

“I can send someone down to Holland House this afternoon after the fête with her details if you like.” Lettice replies. “The next time you’re in London, you might pay her a call.”

 

The two sisters give one another a sour look at the idea, their lips thinning and their eyes lowering as they nod to one another in unison before turning back to Lettice and Gerald.

 

“Aside from the Great Spring Show, we don’t have much call to go up to London these days, do we Henrietta?”

 

“Indeed no, Geraldine.” agrees the younger Miss Evans between pursed lips, a tinge of regret in her statement.

 

“Besides we find the services of Mrs. Maginot’s in the high street to be quite adequate.”

 

“Good lord!” gasps Gerald, causing the two spinster sisters to blush at his strong language. “Is old Mrs. Maginot still going?” He chuckles. “Fancy that!”

 

The elder Miss Evans clears her dry and raspy throat awkwardly before continuing. “For our more bucolic, and doubtlessly simple tastes, Master Bruton, we find Mrs. Maginot to be quite satisfactory.” Both sisters raise their lace gloved hands to their toques in unison, patting the runched floral cotton lovingly. “We aren’t quite as fashionable as you smart and select London folk down here in sleepy little Glynes, Master Bruton, Miss Chetwynd, but we manage to keep up appearances.”

 

“On indeed yes, Miss Evans.” Lettice replies with an amused smile. “No-one could fault you on maintaining your standards.”

 

“I imagine you will soon be designing Miss Chetwnd’s own wedding frock, Master Bruton.” the younger of the Miss Evanses announces rather vulgarly.

 

“That’s only if I let her get married, Miss Evans,” Gerald teases her indulgently. “I might like to whisk her away and lock her in a tower so that I can keep her all to myself.”

 

“After what we all saw with our own eyes at the Hunt Ball, I’m sorry Master Bruton, but I don’t think you are in the running for Miss Chetwynd’s affections!” the younger Miss Evans twittering giggle escapes her throat yet again as her eyes sparkle with delight at the very faintest whiff of any gossip.

 

“How is Mr. Spencely, Miss Chetwynd?” the elder Miss Evans asks pointedly, her scrutinising gaze studying Lettice’s face.

 

Lettice blushes at the directness of both Miss Evans’ question and her steely gaze. “Oh, he’s quite well, as far as I know, Miss Evans.” she replies awkwardly.

 

“As far as you know?” the older woman’s outraged tone betrays her surprise as she looks quizzically into Lettice’s flushed face.

 

“Well, I haven’t seen Selw… err, Mr. Spencely just as of late.”

 

“Oh?” the elder Miss Evans queries. “I thought we saw you leave the tent we were in at the Great Spring Show, on the arm of Mr. Spencely.”

 

“Yes, I’m sure it was him, Miss Chetwynd.” adds the younger Miss Evans as she raises a lace clad finger in thought. “He’s very striking and hard to mistake for someone else.”

 

Silently Lettice curses the beady eyed observation the two spinster sisters are known for. Of course, they of all people at the bustling and crowded Chelsea flower show, noticed her inadvertent stumble into Selwyn and then her departure with him. Although perfectly innocent, and accompanied by her married friend Margot Channon, and Selwyn’s cousin, Pamela Fox-Chavers, she can see how easily the Miss Evanses can construe the situation to their own advantage of spreading salacious London gossip about Lettice, as daughter of the local squire, around the citizenry of Glynes village.

 

“I believe you were here for a purpose, Miss Evans.” Gerald pipes up, quickly defending his best friend from any more uncomfortable cross examination.

 

“Oh,” the elder Miss Evans replies, the disappointment at the curtailing of her attempt to gather gossip clear in both her tone of voice and the fall of her thin and pale face. “Yes.” She turns to Arabella. “I have actually come early today to see you on business, Mrs. Chetwynd.”

 

“Me, Miss Evans?” Arabella raises her hand to the scalloped collar of her blouse and toys with the arrow and heart gold and diamond broach there – a wedding gift from her husband.

 

“Yes.” replies the elder of the two sisters. “You see, when I heard that you were running the second-hand stall this year, I did feel sorry for you.”

 

“Sorry for me, Miss Evans?”

 

“Yes,” she replies, screwing up her eyes. “For as you know, there is always a poor offering of donated goods by the other villagers, and it makes for a rather sad and depressing sight amidst all this gaiety.” She gesticulates over Arabella’s trestle with a lace glove clad hand, sending forth the whiff of lavender, cloves and camphor in the process.

 

“Unless you are donating one of your lovely frocks to the sale, Master Bruton?” the younger of the Miss Evanses adds with a hopeful lilt in her voice. “I should buy it, even if it didn’t fit me.”

 

Gerald splutters and chokes on the gulp of tea he has just taken as the question is posed of him. Coughing, he deposits his cup quickly and withdraws a large white handkerchief which he uses to cover his mouth and muffle his coughs.

 

“Oh, poor Master Bruton!” exclaims the younger of the Miss Evanses as she reaches out and gently, but pointlessly, taps Gerald on the shoulder in an effort to help him. “Did you tea go down the wrong way?”

 

“I arrest my case.” her elder sister snaps giving Gerald a steely, knowing look.

 

“Now be fair, Miss Evans,” Lettice defends her friend, filled with a sudden burst of anger towards the hypocritical old woman, who despite having plenty of money of her own, only spends a few shillings at the fundraiser every year. “Gerald is still establishing himself in London! He cannot afford to give one of his frocks away when he has to pour what little profit he currently makes back into supporting and promoting his atelier.”

 

“As you like, Miss Chetwynd.” Miss Evans replies dismissively. “It is a pity though that neither Master Bruton, nor yourself could cast something Mrs. Chetwynd’s way, to help make her stall more,” She pauses momentarily as she considers the correct word. “Appealing.”

 

Lettice feels the harshness of the old woman’s rebuke, but she says nothing as she feels a flush of shame rise up her neck and fill her face.

 

“Geraldine!” her younger sister scolds her. “That’s most uncharitable of you.”

 

“Charity, my dear Henrietta, begins at home.” She looks critically at the knotted half completed knitting, the yellow and age stained linen and the mismatched gloves. “And Mrs, Chetwynd, I see that try as you might, you cannot disguise the usually dispirited efforts of the village used clothing drive this year.”

 

“Oh, well I haven’t really finished setting up yet, Miss Evans.” Arabella defends herself. “There are still some things to unpack from the boxes behind me.” She indicates to several large wooden crates stacked up behind her against the wall under the watchful gaze of the King.

 

“Which are items that doubtlessly didn’t sell last year, or the year before that have been shuffled away, only to make their annual reappearance.”

 

“Perhaps you have something appealing,” Lettice emphasises her re-use of the elder Miss Evans’ word as she tries to regain some moral standing against the older woman. “To offer at this year’s second-hand clothing stall, Miss Evans.”

 

“As a matter of fact,” the elder Miss Evans replies with a self-satisfied smile and sigh. “That is exactly why I am here.”

 

With a groaning heave, she foists the wicker basket, the handle of which she has been grasping in her bony right hand, up onto the trestle table’s surface. She opens one of the floral painted flaps and withdraws a large caramel felt Edwardian style picture hat of voluminous pre-war proportions from within the basket’s interior. The brim of the hat is trimmed with coffee and gold braid, woven into an ornate pattern whilst the crown is smothered in a magnificent display of feathers in curlicues and the brim decorated with sprigs or ornate autumnal shaded foliage and fruit.

 

“As I said, charity begins at home, so I thought I would add some style and panache to your stall, Mrs. Chetwynd, with the addition of this beautiful hat.”

 

“Oh, thank you, Miss Evans.” Arabella says with a sweet, yet slightly forced smile as the older woman tears off a smaller blue stiffed lace hat from a wooden hatstand and replaces it with her enormous millinery confection.

 

“I know it is only a hat from Mrs. Maginot, and not a London milliner,” she looks pointedly at Lettice. “But I dare say it will be more than suitable for our modest little country jumble sale.”

 

“Oh I’m sure it will be,” Arabella lies politely as she looks in dismay at the old fashioned headwear.

 

“Geraldine!” gasps her sister in disbelief. “You love that hat! I remember you had Mrs. Maginot make it for the King’s Coronation celebrations at great expense!”

 

“That’s true, Henrietta, but it just sits in a box at home these days and never gets worn anymore. It seems a shame to hide it away when it could look fetching on another’s head in church on Sunday. No-one will have anything to rival it. Not even you, Miss Chetwynd.”

 

“I agree with that,” whispers Lettice discreetly into Gerald’s ear, unnoticed by either of the spinster sisters. “I’d rather die than be caught in that ghastly thing. It looks every minute of it’s age.”

 

“Just a touch Miss Havisham, don’t you think?” Gerald whispers back, causing both he and Lettice to quietly snort and stifle their giggles.

 

“Well, that really is most kind of you, Miss Evans.” Arabella says loudly and brightly with a polite nod of acknowledgement, anxious to cover up the mischievous titters from her friend and sister-in-law.

 

“It’s my pleasure.” she replies with a beatific smile. “Well, we shan’t hold you up any longer from doing your setting up of the clothes, Mrs. Chetwynd. Come along Henrietta. Let’s go and make sure Mr. Beatty has my floral arrangement in a suitably advantageous place. I’m not having it shunted to the back like last year.”

 

“Oh, yes Geraldine.” her sister replies obsequiously.

 

Lettice, Gerald and Arabella watch as the two old ladies slowly retreat and heave a shared sigh of relief.

 

Gerald deposits his cup on the trestle’s surface and walks up to the grand Edwardian hat and snatches it off the wooden stand before placing it atop his own head with a sweeping gesture. “Do you think it suits me?” he laughs.

 

Lettice and Arabella laugh so much they cannot answer.

 

“Well,” Gerald sighs, returning the hat to the stand. “Even if Hattie could make hats a hundred times more fashionable than this, maybe some local lady who is a bit behind the times will want to take this beauty home.” He arranges it carefully on the rounded block so that it shows off the autumnal themed fruit garland pinned to the wide felt brim.

 

“That’s the spirit I need, Gerald.” Arabella manages to say as she recovers from laughing at her friend’s theatrical modelling of the hat, and quietly she hopes that someone will buy the hat and everything else she has in her remit to sell, to help raise money for schoolbooks for the local village and country children that attend the Glynes Village School.

 

*May 20 1913 saw the first Royal Horticultural Society flower show at Chelsea. What we know today as the Chelsea Flower Show was originally known as the Great Spring Show. The first shows were three day events held within a single marquee. The King and Queen did not attend in 1913, but the King's Mother, Queen Alexandra, attended with two of her children. The only garden to win a gold medal before the war was also in 1913 and was awarded to a rock garden created by John Wood of Boston Spa. In 1919, the Government demanded that the Royal Horticultural Society pay an entertainment tax for the show – with resources already strained, it threatened the future of the Chelsea Flower Show. Thankfully, this was wavered once the Royal Horticultural Society convinced the Government that the show had educational benefit and in 1920 a special tent was erected to house scientific exhibits. Whilst the original shows were housed within one tent, the provision of tents increased after the Great War ended. A tent for roses appeared and between 1920 and 1934, there was a tent for pictures, scientific exhibits and displays of garden design. Society garden parties began to be held, and soon the Royal Horticultural Society’s Great Spring Show became a fixture of the London social calendar in May, attended by society ladies and their debutante daughters, the occasion used to parade the latter by the former. The Chelsea Flower Show, though not so exclusive today, is still a part of the London Season.

 

**A shirtwaister is a woman's dress with a seam at the waist, its bodice incorporating a collar and button fastening in the style of a shirt which gained popularity with women entering the workforce to do clerical work in the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries.

 

***Tatting is a technique for handcrafting a particularly durable lace from a series of knots and loops. Tatting can be used to make lace edging as well as doilies, collars, accessories such as earrings and necklaces, and other decorative pieces.

 

****A leg of mutton sleeve is a sleeve that has a lot of fullness around the shoulder-bicep area but is fitted around the forearm and wrist. Also known as a gigot sleeve, they were popular throughout different periods of history, but in particular the first few years of the Twentieth Century.

 

*****’Tight’ is an old fashioned upper-class euphemism for drunk.

 

******Created by a specific style of corset popular between the turn of the Twentieth Century and the outbreak of the Great War, the S-bend is characterized by a rounded, forward leaning torso with hips pushed back. This shape earned the silhouette its name; in profile, it looks similar to a tilted letter S.

 

*******A Sautoir is a long necklace consisting of a fine gold chain and typically set with jewels, a style typically fashionable in the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries.

  

Whilst this charming village fête scene may appear real to you, it is in fact part of my 1:12 miniatures collection, including items from my own childhood.

 

Fun things to look for in this tableau include:

 

Perhaps the main focus of our image, the elder Miss Evans’ camel coloured wide brimmed Edwardian picture hat is made of brown felt and is trimmed with miniature coffee coloured braid. The brim is decorated with hand curled feathers, dyed to match the shade of the hat, as well as a spray of golden “grapes” and dyed flowers. Acquired from an American miniatures collector who was divesting herself of some of her collection, I am unsure who the maker was, other than it was made by an American miniature artisan. 1:12 size miniature hats made to such exacting standards of quality and realism such as these are often far more expensive than real hats are. When you think that it would sit comfortably on the tip of your index finger, yet it could cost in excess of $150.00 or £100.00, it is an extravagance. American artists seem to have the monopoly on this skill and some of the hats that I have seen or acquired over the years are remarkable.

 

The shirtwaister dummy, complete with lace blouse, tweed skirt and Art Nouveau belt attached to a lacquered wooden base, is an artisan miniature as well, once again by an unknown person. It came from Kathleen Knight’s Doll House Shop in the United Kingdom.

 

The divine little patriotic cupcakes, each with a Union Jack on the top, has been made in England by hand from clay by former chef turned miniature artisan, Frances Knight. Her work is incredibly detailed and realistic, and she says that she draws her inspiration from her years as a chef and her imagination. Each cupcake is only five millimetres in diameter and eight millimetres in height! The plate on which they stand and the teacups on the table are made by the Dolls House Emporium and are part of a larger sets including plates, tureens and gravy boats.

 

Miss Evans’ wicker picnic basket that can be seen peeping out near the right-hand side of the picture was made by an unknown miniature artisan in America. The floral patterns on the top have been hand painted. The hinged lids lift, just like a real hamper, so things can be put inside. When I bought it, it arrived containing the little yellow napkins folded into triangles and the hand embroidered placemats that you see on the table in the foreground.

 

The knitting needles and tiny 1:12 miniature knitting, the red woven straw hat, the doilies, the stockings and the napkins in their round metal rings all came from Kathleen Knight’s Doll House Shop in the United Kingdom. The elbow length grey ttravelling gloves on the table are artisan pieces made of kid leather. I acquired these from a high street dolls house specialist when I was a teenager. Amazingly, they have never been lost in any of the moves that they have made over the years are still pristinely clean.

 

The wooden boxes in the background with their Edwardian advertising labels have been purposely aged and came from The Dolls’ House Supplier in the United Kingdom.

 

The Portrait of King George V in the gilt frame in the background was created by me using a portrait of him done just before the Great War of 1914 – 1918. I also created the Union Jack bunting that is draped across the wall in the background.

One can consider the presentation of this spectacular hardtop coupe as an ultimate afford to gain attention of the audience to persuade them for buying a Packard. The financial position of Packard was terrible in 1956. But it wasn't much of a help.

Richard 'Dick' Teague (Los Angeles, 1923-1991) designed the Predictor. It was built at Carrozzeria Ghia, Torino in Italy on a Clipper platform. In ninety days the Italians managed to get this project ready, just in time for the Chicago Car Show (see photo).

 

The Predictor had all kinds of new automotive features, like tilting headlights, roof doors rolled back when opening the door, lowering back window, swiveling seats, dashboard design which followed the hood profile, a power operated trunk lid, and a wraparound windshield that curved into the roof.

Many car brands copied several novelties: the grille at the 1958 Edsel, the roof line at the 1958 Lincoln Premier, the rear bumper at the 1958 Oldsmobile, opera windows or portholes in the rear pillar at the 1957 Thunderbird, and the headlights at the 1962 Corvette.

 

Only one Predictor was made. It still exists and is on display at the Studebaker National Museum, South Bend, Indiana.

A beautiful summer evening finds the I&O GUNHA leaning into the sweeping curve north of Leipsic behind a solo CSX AC motor. Evening northbounds on the former DT&I are hard to come by, and while some DT&I orange would have looked much better, this will have to do.

Final update. May 8th. Alright. Sorry it took me a few days to follow up on all this. I have not been ignoring the e-mails. Well ok, I have. But only because after pouring so much energy into this event over the last month, once Thursday night was finished I needed to set it all aside for a couple of days. I still feel pretty wiped in that regard, but I wanted to let you all know just how we all did. My fundraising event page with Mercy Corps took in $1420 that night. In addition, I know of $150 in donations made to the cause before I set up that page specifically. I also know of at least two other donations made to Mercy Corps since that did not go to my page specifically. So it is safe to say that total, we raised something north of $1600 for Mercy Corps' Japanese Disaster Relief Fund. I consider that a hell of a success. Sure, a higher number would have been nice. But $1600 will still do a heckuva lot of good over there. So thank you for all your help, everyone.

 

I do want to briefly, but pointedly thank a couple of people. First off, are Morgan Leedy and Vin of The Fresh Pot. Morgan is the art curator for The Fresh Pot. She gave the go ahead for the event to take place there, showed up to help me hang it, staffed the night of and was there tonight to help me take it down. In all, she is nothing short of awesome. Vin also gets a big thank you as the manager of The Fresh Pot. He donated his night to run the counter on Thursday. A cool dude too. Continuing with The Fresh Pot theme, thank you Damian. Damian was my liaison with TFP and was ultimately the one who landed them as the host for this event. It would not have happened there without him. He was also part of my set up crew the night before. Rounding out that crew was B, Wendi and O. Thank you to all three of you for helping me shlep work around and see that it got up on the walls. And then also to all my co-staff at Blue Moon for the myriad little ways they helped over the weeks, from receiving donated art work on my days off, to making extra enlargements to donate, to putting up with me being mildly distracted by all of this, and then for showing up themselves. They are all grand. Except you, Sean. You're part-time-grand.... just kidding. ;-)

 

And where to from here? Good question and I have given it a lot of thought. About half of everything donated, sold. But then you figure that I ended up with about 80 donated pieces and it does not take a math whiz to realize I still have about 40 pieces left over, which is a show and a half, if not two. I am tempted to do something with all of this. But I think I am going to pass and return the work. I am a bit worn out, I need a bit of time to recuperate and I have a few other projects that got set aside that deserve my attention now. My schedule is also screwy. I am here this week, then will not be around the week after. So something would have to happen really soon, like now, or wait two weeks to get organized. The idea of an on-line sale has been broached a number of times. I am leery of the immense amount of work that would have to occur behind the scenes in terms of getting everything into a digital format, cataloged, a website organized and populated, and then the business of selling and shipping it all. It is more than I am able to bite off right now.

 

That isn't to say I didn't really enjoy this experience. I did. I learned a lot and it was extremely gratifying to put my photography to a use greater than myself. It has caused me to become so much more quickly tired of the ego-driven game that so many other photographers seem willing to play. In fact, I am pretty sure I am going to do something like this again. Maybe not a fundraiser specifically. But I am going to keep looking for ways I can put my experience and skills to use to further a cause greater than simply promoting myself or selling my work. Be that through more volunteering, through another event like this, or I am even thinking of working to land a grant to undertake a larger photographic project. All in good, patient time though.

 

And I hope. I really, really hope that some of you who participated, or watched even, will have learned something from all this too. I hope some of you will remember this in the future, and recognize a moment where you could do something too. It does not have to be grand, just do something good with your abilities. Photography can be so much more than just Front Page. So much more than selling a few prints or having your own show. So much more than making a book or winning a major contest. It is not cliche to say that you can use it to change the world. Just look at this. Somewhere, somebody in Japan will benefit from what we did here with our photography. We will never know the extent of that, nor will we even meet them. But we will have done something. Remember that. It is possible.

 

In terms of left over work, I will be in touch over this next week if I have something of yours. It will all be stored at Blue Moon Camera and available for pick up at your convenience. If you would rather I just keep it, I am willing to do that too, and if I end up with enough left over, then maybe in two weeks I will look at organizing something small to sell off the rest and send that money on over to Mercy Corps too.

 

Anyway, this is the last time you will see this image refreshed. Just want to say thank you again everyone. It was a good experience, I am glad we did this.

Update 29 April 2011: So just under a week to go before the night of the event. I will say this more than once over the next week or so, but thank you everyone who donated work to the event. I currently have over 50 pieces, and with the remaining promised pieces the show is going to have over 60 and possibly 70 works for sale to raise money for Mercy Corps. I appreciate the assistance greatly. I may be the one organizing this, but I could not have done it without all your help. Again, thank you.

 

At this point I need attendance by a crowd meaning to purchase the work and fulfill its purpose. So I am encouraging everyone who is thinking of attending to bear in mind that the venue is small and is going to be crowded. I don't want to limit the crowd or the moral support, but mind you that if you are not planning on buying work, you will be making it more difficult for those who do plan to do so. The event is public though and word of mouth has been awesome to this point, so please feel free to encourage family or friends to attend.

 

Also, you are welcome to make donations to Mercy Corps ahead of time and bring a printout of your receipt as a voucher. You can do this if you would like to make the evening slightly less complicated for me, and would care to donate from home. The prices of the pieces are going to vary greatly, but I am telling people if they are planning on making pre-donations to do so in $25 increments. Most bare prints will be $25. Most matted prints will be $50 and most framed work will be $75.

 

Also, I should warn you that work is going to sell right off the wall. So if the turnout is robust enough, this event could in theory be finished by 7:30 or 8 if everything sells. I am normally a big fan of the fashionably late entrance to art shows, but I would not recommend it in this case. :-)

 

Other than that, I am spending this last week getting the final preparations in order. Wish me luck!

 

Update 18 April 2011: Thanks all for the donations. I really appreciate them. I am collecting quite a few pieces so far, but will gladly take any others people want to add to the cause. At this point, I need to start encouraging people to attend with the expectation of spending small amounts of money. More on that with the next update, but just to get it in your minds.

 

In terms of Quickstop orders, there have been a few issues, but mostly minor. Their uploader accepts both JPEGs and TIFFs but they highly recommend JPEGs as their printers do not recognize all TIFF formats.

 

Also, Christopher Fetterer, whichever of my contacts you are (forgive me for not knowing), send me an e-mail, it seems Quickstop needs you to re-upload your file as a JPEG.

As I have mentioned to some of you, I have decided to organize a small, benefit auction in support of disaster relief for Japan. I don't like being in a position where I know I could do something if I was motivated enough, and don't, so I figured I would see just what I could do, and started organizing an auction.

 

I think as a population, we are not limited by our abilities or inabilities but rather by our motivation and desire to see something done. It is pretty amazing what a small group of motivated individuals can do once they set their collective minds to a task. And that is one reason I wanted to do this. The photographers of Portland are all a capable lot, capable of quite a bit, and I wanted to tap into that a bit and turn our talents with cameras into a result greater than the occasional images we make.

 

So quickly, here is the time and location:

So, what I need in terms of help, because I can do this on my own, but the result and the effects will be much greater the more help I can get. At this point, I need donations of artwork.

 

In terms of the art, I am looking for smallish pieces, say 8x10. Larger or smaller pieces than that are certainly welcome though. The work can be bare prints, it can be matted, it can even be framed. I want to stress though that these pieces are going to sell inexpensively. Do not donate something valuable with the expectation of it meeting that price.

 

Ideally, I want to put up a number of pieces with very low, buy-it-now prices of around $25-50. Other pieces, particularly framed ones, can go through a silent auction process, but I want firm prices on many of the pieces so as to be able to tap into the walk-through crowd that would not hang around until a bid was finished. I will also tell you, based on a heck of a lot of experience, that in order to sell work in Portland, it needs to be inexpensive. Portlanders, especially after the recession, do not spend a lot of money on art. Hence why I want to put low price tags on the work, and I want anyone donating to be aware of that upfront. I have not settled on a price structure just yet, but I will be in touch with everyone who donates when I do. The cutoff for donating pieces is the last Thursday in April, so one week before the opening. Of course I will still take donations after that, but if they can be in before that, it will make my job of organizing all this easier.

 

Donations can be dropped off at Blue Moon Camera in St. Johns where I work. Please include your name, phone number or e-mail with your pieces. Alternately you can e-mail me to make other arrangements for getting your work to me. If you are out of town, state or country, you are still more than invited to donate work, just mail it to Blue Moon Camera. If you need that address, e-mail me at zeb@zebandrews.com.

 

An alternate idea for getting prints to me for those of you far away, is through Quick Stop Photo, which is Blue Moon's outlab for digital printing. You can upload, order and pay for prints through their website which is www.picturepreview.com. I think an 8x10 costs all of $1.99. Then in the final instructions for your order, just instruct them to send the finished print to Blue Moon and to my attention. Make sure you leave your name in the order comments as well, and contact info too please.

 

The second group of people I need help from are those willing to show up the night of, bring friends, hang out, and buy work. I don't expect to have a problem with people willing to donate, I don't even expect to have a problem with getting people to show up, but folks, this will not be an art show, but an art sale, so it is important to get people willing to contribute small amounts and get to go home with a print under their arm.

 

100% of the bids will go to charity, at this point, it appears Mercy Corp. I plan on having a laptop right there so that winning bidders can make their donation on the spot and no paper money has to trade hands or even be involved. Alternately, and I still need to confirm this, people could make donations before coming to the show, and bring a printout of the receipt for their donation and use that as a voucher for bidding. I will accept that too. The important thing is to just make sure the money gets to Mercy Corp some way or another.

 

Alright, there are still other details to iron out, but this gives you all enough concrete information to start making your own arrangements. I don't need to tell you this is for a good cause, you already know that. Nor do I need to remind you what a disaster Japan is at the moment, our media barrage, as clumsy as it is, has made that point too. What I will remind you of is that we are all capable of making a difference here, it may be small, but it will matter. And the more motivated we become, the more intent on our purpose, the greater the effect we will have. So don't write yourself off as being insignificant, don't use that as an excuse to do nothing at all. I know you all have prints just laying around out there, and you all have abilities with a camera, lets translate that into something, that on a certain scale will be a big thing.

David and I went to the Roger's Cup in Toronto back in the Summer of 2009. They were so 'toy-like' even back then.

It's not easy achieving that toy look, but I'm trying. Any tips?

I didn't consider this one at all, since the background had part of a guy in it ^^;. I thought that it would probably be against the rules to photoshop it out, so I didn't want to risk it.

 

I kind of regretted it though. I thought this one turned out much better than the other one! The lighting seemed better, the background seemed less fake, and the angle seemed more interesting..but I didn't like her expression-she seemed kind of bored ^^;.

Buffaloman (バッファローマン) is a Devil Chojin with allegiances to Akuma Shogun and Satan, but works alongside the Justice Chojin for a good portion of the original series, before retiring to teach the New Generation.

 

About

 

Buffaloman is a charging bull-themed Chojin and one of the Seven Devil Chojin who were said to be too strong and brutal and banished to the ends of the universe.

 

His techniques and fighting style usually rely on his immense strength and power, but in tight situations he can lower his power in order to become faster. Additionally, he specialises in brutal fighting. He is quite clever and will often lure his opponents into wasting stamina.

 

He is depicted as a formidable opponent and far more powerful than any other chojin; the concept of Chojin Power was introduced specifically to illustrate this point. Buffaloman's Chojin Power is 10,000,000 Power, which is 10 times that of Warsman, previously Kinnikuman's greatest opponent. By the end of the series many chojin who surpass 10,000,000 Power have appeared, but Buffaloman still boasts of his power and is the only one where it is treated as an advantage.

 

Personality

 

Despite being a Devil Chojin, he normally fights honourably and shows his opponents respect, even when using brutal methods in battle. During his fight with Kinnikuman his good heart is awakened, and he is revived as a Justice Chojin after his first death. He also has a great sense of companionship, showing great respect for his fallen comrades. He returns to his evil ways in Kinnikuman (2011), but he maintains his honorable side and does not hate his former allies.

 

Appearance

 

He is very large in both height and frame, and has two curved horns called Long Horns (ロングホーン) on both sides of his head, and has a spike on each knee. He has curly brown hair, with a darker shade of skin and pure white eyes. He wears protective gear around both his legs and arms, and tends to have some sort of chest protection in the first few scenes before being destroyed.

 

He also has red shoes and gloves. When Buffaloman was possesed, he had purple skin and a fire symbol across his face with a smile on it.

 

Relationships

 

Kinnikuman

Kinnikuman is the one that showed him that, even if he was a devil, he could become a hero, making Buffaloman to sacrify his last horn and power for the sake of Meat and the dead Justice Chojin. After his resurrection, he become an ally and friend to Kinnikuman, and he even let Doctor Bombe to use his horns as replacement for Kinnikuman's arm bones.

 

Springman

Buffaloman has a good relation with all his fellow Devil Chojins, but his closet friend seems to be Springman, and the both of them end up fighting in tag matches. They are also the last two Devil Chojin in been defeated in their debut arc. In Kinnikuman Nisei, is shown that Springman visited Buffaloman in hospital, and both travel to see the final match between Mantaro and Ashuraman.

 

Mongolman

He and Mongolman end up making a tag team to enter the Universal Chojin Tag Tournament, and they come up with some destructive techniques.

 

Abilities

Buffaloman primary use his horns to do all kinds of techniques and attacks, as well as his powerful body to destroy his opponents.

Buffaloman came from the Buffalo Clan. The clan was growing in power and fought over who would become king, and it descended into many years of fighting until the entire clan was wiped out, which left Buffaloman as the sole survivor. He originally had a Chojin Power of 1,000,000 units, and was continually beaten because he lacked skill. At an unknown point, he was training alone and crossed through a hurricane in his travels. The wind blew away a cross on a church, and it headed straight towards Buffaloman, who was forced to use his own power to stop the cross, which taught him the Chojin Cross Drop.

 

He eventually met and struck a deal with Satan, who granted him more Chojin Power each time he killed another chojin. Eventually he killed so many that his power had climbed to 10,000,000.

 

He and his comrades, all known as the Seven Devil Chojin (Springman, Atlantis, Stereo Cassette King, Black Hole, Mister Khamen, and The Mountain), were eventually captured by a grouping of 100,000 Justice Chojin and Space Police and trapped in a Chojin Roach Motel and sent into space.

 

Kinnikuman

Buffaloman initially appears as a villain, as one of the Seven Devil Chojin. He steals parts of Meat's body and forces Kinnikuman to fight in a tournament to retrieve them, culminating in a tag-match between Kinnikuman and Mongolman against Buffaloman and Springman. He joins the Justice Chojin side, after renouncing Satan and freeing Meat. He will later participate in various tournaments alongside the Justice Chojin, before fighting alongside Ataru Kinniku in the Survivor Match for the Kinniku Throne Arc.

 

Seven Devil Chojin Arc

 

Harabote reveals that seven chojin were banned from the Olympics, due to their ruthless nature, and these seven Devil Chojin were placed into a floating space prison named a "Roach Motel". The "Roach Motel" is accidentally opened, when Kinnikuman is thrown straight onto the release mechanism during celebrations of his most recent victory. Buffaloman and the other Devil Chojin arrive at a fan-appreciation day, where Kinnikuman and his friends are celebrating the conclusion of the 21st Chojin Olympics.

 

Buffaloman initially attacks Warsman, who attacks him in defence of the children present. He announces that they cannot allow Kinnikuman to call himself "champion", until he had defeated each of the Seven Devil Chojin. Buffaloman splits Alexandria Meat's body into seven pieces; this forces Kinnikuman to beat them all within 10 days, if he wants to save his friend. When Kinnikuman is too injured to keep fighting the Seven Devils (after he defeated SteCassette King and Black Hole), his friends step in to take on the remaining Devil Chojin in his place. Buffaloman is pitted against Warsman.

 

In the match, we see Warsman dodging a series of Hurricane Mixers. On the eleventh try, Buffaloman pierces Warsman's hip, and proceeds to take out a chunk of Warsman's helmet. Warsman tries an arm hold, but Buffaloman breaks free and attempts a knee drop, which is countered by a Jet Liner. Buffaloman is unaffected again, and uses a Long Horn Boomerang. Warsman follows with a Palo Special, but is thrown off by Buffaloman and damages his legs. Warsman then destroys his Bear Claws on Buffaloman's horn, when attempting a Screw Driver attack.

 

Buffaloman pierces a hole through Warsman's chest, which inspires Warsman to use his own version of the Fire of Inner Strength. After an exchange of blows, Warsman begins to smoke from his body, and he grows too exhausted to properly continue the match. Warsman attacks with his Bear Claws one last time, and he manages to break off one of Buffaloman's longhorns. Buffaloman uses a series of Hurricane Mixers to kill Warsman. He then walks away and leaves Warsman deceased in the ring.

 

The final match takes places in the Denen Colosseum.

 

Buffaloman faces Kinnikuman in a double match with Springman. There is only one hour left of the deadline, so Kinnikuman only has one hour to save Meat. The stadium is designed as a giant countdown, with bars around the edges that move for each second, and that will destroy pieces of Meat's body at the 30 minutes and 60 minute marks. Just as Kinnikuman is about to fight alone, Mongolman appears to make it a true tag-team match and join Kinnikuman in his fight against Springman and Buffaloman.

 

Despite it being called a tag-team match, Buffaloman's attention is focused exclusively on Kinnikuman, while Springman fights against Mongolman. Mongolman defeats Springman and saves Meat's limb. Buffaloman is an extremely tough opponent, and - changing colour, as he uses the full force of his 10 million Chojin Power - uses his power to reverse Kinnikuman's techniques, including his trademark finishing move: the Kinniku Buster. During an exchange of blows, Harabote uncovers information on Buffaloman.

 

After Buffaloman helps fix Kinnikuman's mask, he becomes fully possessed by Satan. When Buffaloman goes beneath the ring, shredding the canvas with his horn, Kinnikuman uses his arm to stop the horn, and tosses him back onto the ring. Buffaloman loses control of his power when he absorbs Kinnikuman's Burning Inner Strength. Buffaloman pierces Kinnikuman's body with his horn, before - overwhelmed by The Fire - the power returns to Kinnikuman and allows him survive.

 

Due to the respect Kinnikuman showed him, even though they were mortal enemies, Buffaloman changes sides at the end of the match. He cries out the key that will free Meat's head, which allows Meat to be saved just before the final countdown. Buffaloman vows to join the Justice Chojin, if he survives Satan's punishment for defeat. He s fatally injured by Satan, but - before he dies - he gives up his Chojin Power, bought with the blood of other heroes, to bring back to life Warsman, Robin Mask and Wolfman, who had died fighting his teammates.

 

Golden Mask Arc

 

Kinnikuman struggles to make it through a door to the final match, and - at the last moment - Buffaloman uses his high chojin power to keep the door open for him. When Kinnikuman offers him a seat at the ring-side, on the side of the justice chojin, Buffaloman refuses and joins the devil chojin in the corner of Ashuraman. Ashuraman appears to gain the upper-hand, but - in a dispute with Meat - Buffaloman inadvertently gives Kinnikuman inspiration needed to counter-attack.

 

After Akuma Shogun murders Ashuraman, Buffaloman is inspired to rejoin the justice chojin.

 

He then confronts the Devil Knights leader, Akuma Shogun, in order to give Kinnikuman more time to perfect the Kinniku Driver. He is eventually defeated by Devil Shogun's Hell's Guillotine technique. During the fight between Akuma Shogun and Kinnikuman, Akuma Shogun begins to revive the Devil Knights and absorb them to become more powerful, but Buffaloman puts on Akuma Shogun's mask and fights them off, which gives Kinnikuman the chance he needed to defeat Akuma Shogun with the Kinniku Driver.

 

Dream Chojin Tag Arc

 

A second Mount Fuji appears in Japan.

 

On top of this mountain, the Universal Chojin Tag Team trophy appears. Underneath, there appears a series of rings that allow for eight tag-teams to compete. Buffaloman - along with the other justice chojin - goes to Kourakuen Hall to discuss the situation. Buffaloman refuses to team up with Kinnikuman and leaves. He sends a letter to Mongolman, asking him to join him as a new tag-team.

 

Buffaloman and Mongolman forms the 20 Million Powers. The name of their combo comes from Buffaloman's 10,000,000 power and Mongolman's 10,000,000 techniques (10 Million + 10 Million). In the first-round match-ups, the teams are required to navigate a labyrinth to be matched against their opponents, and the 20 Million Powers are matched against the Most Dangerous Combo. Just as the 20 Million Powers and Most Dangerous Combo are about to begin their fight, during the Dream Chojin Tag Arc, the Killer Game Combo arrive. This leads to the Killer Game Combo defeating the Most Dangerous Combo.

 

Brocken Jr. does not want his loss to count for nothing, so - to allow the 20 Million Powers to win - he challenges Buffaloman and allows himself to be pinned; this allows 20 Million Powers to officially win the match. This technical win allows the 20 Million Powers to advance to the next round, but the 20 Million Powers attack the Killer Game Combo for their intrusion. Buffaloman uses a feint against Screw Kid, but Mongolman - using the distraction to attack - injures his leg in the process.

 

Buffaloman is then struck by Kendaman, and the Killer Game Combo ask for formal permission to enter the tournament in the place of the Most Dangerous Combo. The 20 Million Powers declare that they will earn their place in the next round by first defeating the Killer Game Combo. The match began with a fierce one-on-one battle between Buffaloman and Kendaman, but Buffaloman tries a Hurricane Mixer on Kendaman, but it fails. Buffaloman is then caught in a Scorpion Defence by Kendaman.

 

He proceeds to break off his Long Horn and breaks the glass of the War-Cube, but is then attacked by a Hell's Screwdriver, which is only stopped by the thrown hair of Mongolman. Buffaloman counters with a powered-up Hurricane Mixer. Fearing the punishment that comes from failing their superiors, Screw Kid and Kendaman begin to use dirty tactics. At this point Neptuneman and Big the Budo reveal themselves, and Kendaman and Screw Kid abandon the match to attack them, and the 20 Million Powers win by default, as the Killer Game Combo are killed by the Hell Missionaries outside of the ring.

 

During the match-up lottery for the semi-final placements, the 20 Million Powers are matched with the Hell Missionaries. The first match is between the Muscle Brothers and the Stray Devil Chojin Combo, and the 20 Million Powers stay at the edge of the ring to act as spotters. At the end of the match, after the defeat of the Stray Devil Chojin Combo, the Hell Missionaries attack Sunshine, only to be stopped by the 20 Million Powers. They then allow the Hell Missionaries to attack, as the dolls - created by the Stray Devil Chojin to steal the justice chojin Friendship Power scatter, and thus creates animosity between the justice chojin.

 

The semi-final match against the Hell Missionaries is a simple barbed-wire cage match, but also a mask-removal death-match in which Mongolman must bet his mask. Buffaloman is thrown into the barbed wire by Neptuneman, who then switches with Mongolman, who is at a disadvantage from being unable to use the rope for his techniques. After being thrown into the screen cage, Mongolman rebounds with a kick.

 

After a series of blows, the 20 Million Powers seem to have the upper hand. Mongolman begins to suffer flashbacks within the ring, as the cage reminds him of his match against Warsman, and Buffaloman is unable to tag in, as both of the Hell Missionaries attack him. The spirit of Warsman helps Mongolman. Buffaloman is tagged in and uses a Buffalo Avalanche Drop. He proceeds to attach his Long Horn, and uses a Hurricane Heat. Mongolman is tagged into the match, but subject to a Cross Bomber.

 

Neptuneman uses his Magnet Power in retaliation. This heals the wounds of the Hell's Missionaries, and they try continuously to attack with Cross Bombers attacks, only to fail. Due to the Iron Sweat on Mongolman and Buffaloman, they are dragged towards the Hell Missionaries by their magnet power, and they almost defeat the 20 Million Powers with a Magnetic Storm Driver. The 20 Million Powers are then further attacked by a magnetic suplex. They are soon entangled in the magnetic barbed wires, as they regain their Friendship Power, and the Justice Chojin regain their power of friendship overall.

 

The iron sweat breaks from Mongoman and Buffaloman, and Buffaloman uses his Longhorn Train. This increases the power of the Hell's Missionaries, who use a Silhouette Body Press, and - after a series of blows - are thrown from the war-cube. The Hell's Missionaries summon thunder to increase their electrical power. Their Lightning Sabre attack renders Buffaloman and Ramenman immobile, and Buffaloman uses a fragment of Iron Sweat to draw Neptuneman away from Mongolman.

 

Buffaloman collapses against the mat, defeated by the Light Sabres.

 

Mongolman carries Buffaloman on his back, as they try again for a Longhorn Train, but they are defeated by a Magnetic Storm Crash. Once Ramenman is defeated, Buffaloman is rushed to hospital alongside Kinnikuman and Ramenman. At hospital, Doctor Bombe removes Buffaloman's horn in order to save Kinnikuman's arm, even knowing it would result in Buffaloman's death, but the tears in Buffaloman's eyes mark his consent to the procedure.

 

Blood Oath Brigade Formation!

 

This story covered the formation of Kinnikuman Soldier's team in detail. Brocken Jr. and Buffaloman want to join Soldier's team, but Asuraman and The Ninja aren't on board with that idea. According to Asuraman, Buffaloman is too easily swayed by his emotions, which is why he never became a Devil Knight despite having exceptional talent.

 

Kinnikuman Soldier shows up and interrupted Asuraman and The Ninja's departure. In response, The Ninja attempted to read Kinnikuman Soldier's mind with his Expose the Heart jutsu, but there's nothing to read. Unlike the other Fated Princes, Soldier has no ambition to destroy his opponents and take over the throne.

 

Asuraman gets into a fight against Soldier, but Soldier easily fends him off. Soldier even escaped the Asura Buster in a similar fashion to Kinnikuman and counters with a Dragon Cube Suplex. Buffaloman deduces why Soldier would pick those four. Pride is their main characteristic. According to Asuraman, "all four chojin are bull headed guys who won't listen to anyone".

 

Asuraman asks if Soldier is a fake Soldier and Soldier confirms this theory. He ambushed the real Soldier's team while they were training near Mt. Fuji and stole the real Soldier's mask. The fake Soldier explains that he joined the tournament because the Friendship Power the Justice Chojin use is a sham and that the pride that they share can bring out their true strength.

 

Asuraman wants Soldier to prove why this team of outcasts would make an excellent team. Soldier tells him to be silent. A real man would never talk so much. Instead, he'd silently watch the result with his own eyes. Asuraman follows up with his Tornado Hell, but Soldier dodges, causing the building already worn down by the Rolling Cube Suplex to collapse on top of them. Soldier heals them all with a Face Flash. With this act, Soldier convinced them to join his team for the upcoming tournament.

 

Survivor Match Arc

When Kinnikuman's right to the Kinniku Throne was challenged by five pretenders to the throne, Ataru Kinniku forms a team of five people to fight in a tournament to determine who shall be king of Planet Kinniku. [50] Buffaloman - sans his horns - arrives at the house of Brocken Jr., along with Asuraman and The Ninja. Ataru asks them to join his team, as well as to meet him at Nagoya Castle in three days time, and - during that time - they watch him from a distance to ascertain his character.

 

After Ataru defeats Bockman and saves a boy, Buffaloman and the others decide to join his team. They proceed to enter Nagoya Castle and face against Team Phoenix, as they announce they have formed The Chojin Blood Oath Brigade. After the defeat of The Ninja and Asuraman, Nagoya and Himeji Castles fly away from their locations and join as one structure.

 

In the final match during the semi-finals battle against Team Super Phoenix and Team Soldier (Soldier, Buffaloman, and Brocken) competed in a 6-Man Tag Match against Super Phoenix (Mammothman, and Prisman). The match takes place in a floating multi-sided ring. Buffaloman, for the most part, fought against Mammothman. Tremendously weaker without his Long Horns, he found himself losing against the nearly unstoppable Mammothman. He was finally able to gain and advantage when Kinnikuman returned the Long Horns used to fix his arm before the Tag match finals. Soon after, Brocken took out Prisman, but then fell into the canyon below and died. Seeing how much Soldier and Buffaloman cared for their fallen comrade convinced Super Phoenix that Soldier wasn't the real Soldier.

 

As Soldier begins to have his true identity figured out by his own father Mayumi as his long-lost elder son Ataru, the Evil Gods choose to sabotage him to eliminate him and help Phoenix win the tournament. The God of Brutality steals a page from the Muscle Prophecy, a book owned by Kinniku Clan royalty which contains past, present, and even future information on every Chojin ever, as a means to reveal who Soldier is to Super Phoenix. As the God of Brutality attempts to give the page to Super Phoenix via Mammothman, Buffaloman sees a vision of Mayumi in his head, forcing him to take the page to protect it. As the mammoth Chojin prepares to hand it to Phoenix, the bull Chojin performs the Chojin Cross Drop on him, jumping out of the ring and forcing Buffaloman to hold the page in his mouth. As they fall, Mammothman hits Buffaloman with his Nose Fencing technique and retains the page. At the last second, Buffaloman hits Mammothman with a Buffalo Bomb on the roof of the Himeji/Nagoya castle and saves the page again.

 

The Evil Gods then arrived and began attacking the floating ring in an attempt to take out Ataru. As the ring fell, Buffaloman caught it and held it up. Weakened from the battle with Mammothman, he put on a red headband given to him by the other Justice Chojins and found enough strength to not only hold the ring up longer but also remove his arm guards and toss them up to Ataru. He then pushed it into the air and as it fell again, he jumped up and hit it with a Hurricane Mixer, successfully putting it back in mid-air. Unfortunately, Buffaloman had no more strength and fell into the canyon below. He is revived (along with his teammates) after the tournament by Kinnikuman's Face Flash.

Perfect Origin Arc

 

Prehistory

Like all the other Idol Chojin, Buffaloman was sent off to his home of Spain by Harabote so he could be placed in Medical Suspension, to help him recover from his many injuries from matches past.

 

However, when he finished his Medical Suspension and made his return while the Seven Devil Chojin invaded the full-scale tournament going on, he declared he was a Devil Chojin again, renegading on his Idol Chojin friends out of nowhere.

 

The Seven Devil Chojin reconvene in their base. Buffaloman returns, where they all decide which of the Perfect Large Numbers they shall do battle against, and Buffaloman decides to fight against Strong the Budo, due to the fact that whomever fights him will likely lose and he will not sacrifice his teammates. The Mountain refuses to allow this to happen, and offers to sacrifice himself instead, due to the team needing Buffaloman to serve as their leader. He asks only that Buffaloman not avert his gaze during his match.

 

After Black Hole's match with Dalmatiman, Buffaloman announces that the Devil Chojin are going to purge all Perfect Chojin for their master, Devil Shogun. During the first stage, he mostly oversees how the Devil Chojin fight the Perfect Chojin.

 

In a flashback, it's revealed that Buffaloman made the choice to return to the Devil Chojin and fight alongside them, which the Seven Devil Chojin welcomed greatly. But they wouldn't let him join them to fight the Perfect Large Numbers because he was their "ace", their leader and without them, the Seven Devil Chojin couldn't perform at their best.

 

Diablos vs. John Does

Grim Reaper and Turboman enter with the New Large Numbers.

 

Grim Reaper reveals the next location - of the second-stage of the tournament - will be the Saqqara Pyramid, which has been relocated to Japan's Tottori Dunes. The Grim Reaper lands on the third step, while Turboman takes the fourth step. The Justice Chojin follow them to the mountain, and Buffaloman is assigned against Turboman, who attacks him with a drop-kick before he can enter the ring.

 

He then drags Buffaloman into the ring with a Turboman Stunner. Turboman punches Buffaloman while he's down, until Buffaloman counters with a headbutt and proceeds to use a back-drop. [60] It is then that Springman arrives on the fourth step to fight the Grim Reaper. [61] Grim Reaper begin the match with a Buzzsaw Hat, which cuts Springman's leg as he enters the ring with a jump.

 

Grim Reaper throws Springman against the corner-post, but the post goes through Springman's hollow body and allows him to remain unharmed, and a Spring-Body Breaking-Squeeze breaks the corner-post. A Spring Transfer allows him to distract Grim Reaper, whereby he land a drop-kick to the face. While Turboman and Grim Reaper, struggle in their matches and appear to be losing, Jak Tea fights against Black Hole and creates a strong geyser before he dies. This creates a crack along the pyramid.

 

Turboman frees himself from Buffaloman with a Somersault Kick. He tries a body-press, but Buffaloman catches him and counters with a back-flip. The fifth step finally collapses from the cracks and descends into the fourth step, where the two single matches combine into one tag-match. Turboman gets Buffaloman into a tombstone pile-driver, but - as he prepares for another attack - Springman and Buffaloman combine to use a Chojin Dodgeball. Springman is chastised for attacking Turboman, who was not his original opponent, as the match rules must abide by those of a single-match (due to the unusual circumstances).

 

The two teams agree to form a tag-team match with tag-team rules.

 

Springman lunges at Turboman, who uses a lariat and a Starter Revolver, but gets his arm caught inside Springma, who retaliates with a Spring Cyclone. Springman proceeds to use a Killer-Coil Head Attack. A second attempt at the attack is deflected by Turboman's a back-kick. It nearly knocks Springman out of the ring, until Buffaloman catches him. Turboman charges with a flying-cross, but the Diabolos counter again with a Devil Expander. Buffaloman then bounces off Springman to kick Turboman, who proceeds with a series of blows. Turboman uses a Glove Revolver and a Turbine Chop.

 

Buffaloman and Turboman return to their corners, and Turboman tags in Grim Reaper, who spins around on Turboman's head and delivers an Ignition Dress to Buffaloman. They proceed to use a John Does Arrow. The Diabolos try another Devil Expander, but Turboman dives through Springman and knocks Buffaloman out of the ring, before hitting him again with another John Does Arrows. A High-Capacity John Does Arrow sends Turboman towards Buffaloman, who manages to catch him and slams him against the wall, which causes the wall to crumble into the shape of a flight of stairs.

 

This allows Springman to use a Devil Slinky. He uses a Spring Body-Breaking Squeeze, which causes Turboman's body to start to glow, as Turboman stores the energy of his opponents. Turboman uses a High-Speed Turbo-Crash, as their two attacks seem to create a stalemate, but soon the release of Turboman's energy causes Springman to harden. He proceeds to stab Springman in his face with Revolver Spikes, and a Revolver Fin causes Springman's body to crash into Buffaloman.

 

Springman finds strength to lift Buffaloman, despite his weakened state. The Diabolos attempt a Long Horn Train, but - when it only glances off Turboman - follow with a Most Super Express. They follow with a third attack, which against glances off Turboman, but Turboman finds strength to use a Revolver Stud while Springman starts to crumble away. Springman uses all his strength to throw Buffaloman into a Hurricane Mixer, and Buffaloman's horns break through Turboman's Revolver attack and pierce his chest. This leads to Turboman's death, followed by Springman dying within Buffaloman's arms.

 

The Grim Reaper proceeds to Turboman's corpse, where he opens Turboman's back and steals his Earth Unit (which allows him to store energy to use against an opponent), and then kicks Turboman's body out of the ring. The Grim Reaper removes his robe, which he uses to taunt Buffaloman like a matador, and uses a Skeleton Body to avoid being struck with a Hurricane Mixer. The Grim Reaper states that people fall victim to Buffaloman's attack due to fear and fidgety movements, but - knowing no fear - he cannot be hurt.

 

The Grim Reaper grabs Buffaloman by his horns, before grabbing at his skin and flipping him over, and - in the process - tears chunks of skin from Buffaloman. The Grim Reaper proceeds to tear off more skin from Buffaloman, and attacks with a Dress Spear, which reveals all the scars on Buffaloman's body from previous matches. He is eventually countered by Buffaloman's Buffalo Hammer. The Grim Reaper proceeds to capture Buffaloman's legs, as he sets up for a John Does Arrows, before revealing it can double as a solo-technique called the Phantom Canon. This causes Buffaloman's scars to reopen in a bloody manner.

 

Buffaloman summons his blood back into his body by force of will. The scars move to Buffaloman's horn and turn it into a Long Horn, before he speeds around the Grim Reaper and lands a series of blows. The Grim Reaper uses an Ignition Dress, followed by a Thunder Sabre, which pins Buffaloman to the canvas, and the Grim Reaper uses the Earth Unit to absorb power from Buffaloman. The sheer power from Buffaloman causes the Earth Unit to break, and Buffaloman uses a Hurricane Mixer.

 

This is followed with a Chojin Cross Slam. The Diabolos are declared the winners of the match, and Psychoman exposes his chest with the offer that Buffaloman kills him as he sees fit, due to the Perfect Chojin suicide rule and out of respect to Buffaloman as the victor. The Grim Reaper taunts Buffaloman until Buffaloman stabs him through the chest with his horn, and this cements Buffaloman's return to a Devil Chojin, preventing him from going back to his Justice Chojin allies. Psychoman then vanishes.

 

Buffaloman takes a piece of Springman's body and leaves.

 

After the Perfect Origin hit the scene, and Grim Reaper reveals himself to be Psychoman, Buffaloman decides to make up for letting him escape alive, but Devil Knight Planetman beats Buffaloman to fighting Psychoman. Buffaloman mostly observes while the Devil Knights take on the Perfect Origin.

 

Buffaloman vs. Ganman

The fight takes place on the first ring of Yggdrasil.

 

They begin by clashing horns in a rapid succession, before Ganman slams Buffaloman's head onto the corner-post with a bulldog headlock. Ganman attempts to ram into Buffaloman, but Buffaloman counters with a preemptive kick, and attempts a body-press, which is caught by Ganman in turn. He throws Buffaloman down, before they lock hands centre of the ring, and Ganman attempts a double over-hook suplex; which prompts Buffaloman to state that he cannot lose, as he must avenge Sneagator.

 

Buffaloman extends one horn, and uses it to pierce into Ganman's right shoulder. This is followed by a Hurricane Devil Sword, as well as a Buffalo Hammer, until Ganman throws Buffaloman out of the ring and forces him to prevent his fall by drilling into the stone ring. Buffaloman drills a tunnel under the ring, which allows him to pierce his horn through the surface for a Devil Shark manoeuvre. It is impossible for Ganman to "read" Buffaloman's moves while he is underground, and Buffaloman knocks him down by targeting his legs.

 

Ganman begins to dodge the horn by sensing Buffaloman's breathing, and catches the horn in his hands, which he uses to drag Buffaloman out of the ring, before using Elk Horn Scissors. He slams Buffaloman onto the ring, which reduces the size of his horn, and Ganman shines a light down on Buffaloman with his cyclops eye. Buffaloman attempts a Hurricane Mixer, but Ganman catches him by his horns and proceeds to use a brain-buster. It is revealed Buffaloman is holding back his power, and Kinnikuman and Akuma Shogun convince him to use his full power once more. Buffaloman breaks out of a Canadian Back-Breaker.

 

He uses a Reverse Suplex, before struggling evenly with Ganman in the middle of the ring. The two engage in a series of even blows, but the scars on Buffaloman start to reopen as he gains back the Friendship Power of the Justice Chojin, and - after an equal battle - Ganman breaks off one of Buffaloman's horns. Ganman gains the upper-hand, after a series of carefully aimed blows, until Buffaloman punches his own eye so that he is left with one working eye (just like Ganman) in order to create a 'fair' fight.

 

They lock together evenly again in the ring, until Buffaloman dares Ganman to use his eye power on Chojin Enma. This provokes Ganman to use an Elk Horn Compressor, as he states he will not use his eye power on Chojin Enma due to having faith in him as a person. He follows with an Elk Horn Tempest, but - as the throws Buffaloman - Buffaloman uses his one remaining horn to swing on the corner-post. Buffaloman builds up speed by moving post to post, and uses a new finishing move: Hurricane Giga Blaster.

 

This completely destroys Ganman's horns. Ganman reveals he has remembered Buffaloman's name, which proves he considers Buffaloman a worthy adversary due to how he forgets all other opponents' names, and hands him his dumbbell. This kills Ganman, who dies upon the canvas.

 

Omega Centauri's Six Spear Arc

 

He was hanging out with the remaining of the Devil Chojin, when suddenly, a magic barrier seal them inside their HQ, making them unable to face off against the Omega invaders.

 

Unnamed Arc

 

As Brocken Jr. and Ataru console Ashuraman's loss after he saw Satan Cross die to The Natural, Buffaloman and The Ninja arrive. Buffaloman notes the coincidence of the five in the same location. The Chojin Blood Oath Brigade has formed again. Ataru believes it is up to the Chojin Blood Oath Brigade to unite as one and put an end to the dangers of the Choushin. Ashuraman is the one who will step up to the plate first.

 

During the fight between Caucasusman and Mammothman, the Chojin Blood Oath Brigade talk about Mammothman's poor showing in his fight against Caucasusman. Buffaloman talks about how tough Mammothman was during their fight and that Mammothman's calmness unnerved him. The Choushin are crafty enough to place their opponents into tricky situations and Mammothman is not used to that. All they can do is wait for something within Mammothman to break.

 

After the declaration of the God of Harmony about the opening of the Tower of Babel, Buffaloman decides to be one of the chojins to enter the tower. Once they arrive and enter, they are challenged by the first god, who introduced himself as the God of Evolution, now known as The Executioner. He didn't feel confortable leaving the first rival to Geronimo, knowing that if the young chojin fail, they will be all doomed. But surprinsigly, Geronimo wins, and three new doors are opened.

 

He decides to travel with Kinnikuman and Warsman, arriving to the next level where they are greet by the choushin of said level. Kinnikuman tries to hide behind Buffaloman, but he take him and tries to throw him into the ring, annoyed by his cowardice, but Warman is the one that jumps into the ring to face against the choushin, who introduce himself as Onyxman.

 

Kinnikuman Nisei

 

Buffaloman acts as a teacher within the Hercules Factory. He is matched against Terry the Kid in the graduation matches, which he loses and allows for Terry the Kid to graduate. He will later participate in an exhibition match during the Chojin Olympics, which he fights with Ramenman against The Machineguns. In the Ultimate Chojin Tag Tournament, he again teams up with Ramenman, but will ultimately lose against the Muscle Brothers Nouveau.

 

Hercules Factory Arc

 

He became one of the many instructors at the Hercules Factory, training the future generation of chojin to fight evil. He is then assigned to the last test for the First Year Graduation: fight one of the new generation chojin, to see if he is worthy or needs more training.

 

He end up fighting Terry the Kid, the son of the famous Terryman. After a quick fight, Terry the Kid manage to defeat him with his Texas Clover Hold, congratulating him for his win shortly after.

 

HF First Year Replacement Matches Arc

 

He is shown to have been defeated by one of the new First Years: Jade. He then return to see the final match of the tournament, alongside the other teachers that were defeated by the Generation EX.

 

Demon Seed Arc

 

Buffaloman meets with Meat and goes with him to check a disturbance. He collapses when Alexandria Meat is taken by six tendrils, much like what happened to him 36 years ago, and the six people reveal themselves to be the ultimate Devil Chojin: the Demon Seeds. Buffaloman cries to see that the new generation cannot enter the General Palast.

 

Jade begs Buffaloman to help, but Buffaloman - weeping and in a rage - strikes Jade over and over, as he expresses guilt over his actions 36 years ago that set current events into action.

 

He stabs himself in the chest with a jagged piece of rock, and tears open the wound to accept the General Stone and reaffirms his pact with Satan. [85] He uses his newfound powers to open a hole in the barrier, but only one chojin can pass through as his strength is not enough for more. The barrier closes just after Mantaro Kinniku enters, trapping them both inside, but also cutting off Buffaloman's horn in the process.

 

Buffaloman tosses away the General stone, only to be carried - in his weak state - by Mantaro. Mantaro is forced to choose an opponent, but The Constellation attacks before the match, and Buffaloman blocks an arrow aimed at Mantaro with his body in defence of his ex-pupil. The Constellation pushes the arrow further into the wound and then proceeds to break his arm, but Buffaloman counters with his Hurricane Mixer. The Constellation uses a Suplex, which smashes Buffaloman's head against the concrete floor and cracks open his skull, incapacitating him.

 

Mantaro struggles to gain an advantage, but Buffaloman's advice helps him to counter. The Constellation uses a broken post of the ring to attack Buffaloman, so as to stop his invaluable advice, and it strikes Buffaloman on the forehead and knocks him unconscious. He regains consciousness just long enough to offer Mantaro further encouragement, before he faints once more. Mantaro tries to carry Buffaloman to safety, but - due to his injuries - passes out in the central chamber and collapses next to Buffaloman, at which point the B-Evolutions arrive.

 

Ultimate Chojin Tag Tournament Arc

 

Prehistory

Buffaloman appears late into this arc, as he participates in the tournament at Kourakuen Stadium. He is featured alongside Mongolman (Ramenman) as part of the 20 Million Powers; despite his missing horns, from the match three days ago in his timeline, Buffaloman seeks to distract the New Generation (to which he sees as the villains). Buffaloman chastises Robin Mask for helping Chaos Avenir, as he believes they are responsible for Alisa Mackintosh's accident.

 

Battle Royale

 

He fights against The Gaon and Emperor Death, in a battle royale for the opening match, and their opponents start with the upper hand.

 

History

 

Prehistory

Buffaloman came from the Buffalo Clan. The clan was growing in power and fought over who would become king, and it descended into many years of fighting until the entire clan was wiped out, which left Buffaloman as the sole survivor. He originally had a Chojin Power of 1,000,000 units, and was continually beaten because he lacked skill. At an unknown point, he was training alone and crossed through a hurricane in his travels. The wind blew away a cross on a church, and it headed straight towards Buffaloman, who was forced to use his own power to stop the cross, which taught him the Chojin Cross Drop.

 

He eventually met and struck a deal with Satan, who granted him more Chojin Power each time he killed another chojin. Eventually he killed so many that his power had climbed to 10,000,000.

 

He and his comrades, all known as the Seven Devil Chojin (Springman, Atlantis, Stereo Cassette King, Black Hole, Mister Khamen, and The Mountain), were eventually captured by a grouping of 100,000 Justice Chojin and Space Police and trapped in a Chojin Roach Motel and sent into space.

 

Kinnikuman

Buffaloman initially appears as a villain, as one of the Seven Devil Chojin. He steals parts of Meat's body and forces Kinnikuman to fight in a tournament to retrieve them, culminating in a tag-match between Kinnikuman and Mongolman against Buffaloman and Springman. He joins the Justice Chojin side, after renouncing Satan and freeing Meat. He will later participate in various tournaments alongside the Justice Chojin, before fighting alongside Ataru Kinniku in the Survivor Match for the Kinniku Throne Arc.

 

Seven Devil Chojin Arc

 

Harabote reveals that seven chojin were banned from the Olympics, due to their ruthless nature, and these seven Devil Chojin were placed into a floating space prison named a "Roach Motel". The "Roach Motel" is accidentally opened, when Kinnikuman is thrown straight onto the release mechanism during celebrations of his most recent victory. Buffaloman and the other Devil Chojin arrive at a fan-appreciation day, where Kinnikuman and his friends are celebrating the conclusion of the 21st Chojin Olympics.

 

Buffaloman initially attacks Warsman, who attacks him in defence of the children present. He announces that they cannot allow Kinnikuman to call himself "champion", until he had defeated each of the Seven Devil Chojin. Buffaloman splits Alexandria Meat's body into seven pieces; this forces Kinnikuman to beat them all within 10 days, if he wants to save his friend. When Kinnikuman is too injured to keep fighting the Seven Devils (after he defeated SteCassette King and Black Hole), his friends step in to take on the remaining Devil Chojin in his place. Buffaloman is pitted against Warsman.

 

In the match, we see Warsman dodging a series of Hurricane Mixers. On the eleventh try, Buffaloman pierces Warsman's hip, and proceeds to take out a chunk of Warsman's helmet. Warsman tries an arm hold, but Buffaloman breaks free and attempts a knee drop, which is countered by a Jet Liner. Buffaloman is unaffected again, and uses a Long Horn Boomerang. Warsman follows with a Palo Special, but is thrown off by Buffaloman and damages his legs. Warsman then destroys his Bear Claws on Buffaloman's horn, when attempting a Screw Driver attack.

 

Buffaloman pierces a hole through Warsman's chest, which inspires Warsman to use his own version of the Fire of Inner Strength. After an exchange of blows, Warsman begins to smoke from his body, and he grows too exhausted to properly continue the match. Warsman attacks with his Bear Claws one last time, and he manages to break off one of Buffaloman's longhorns. Buffaloman uses a series of Hurricane Mixers to kill Warsman. He then walks away and leaves Warsman deceased in the ring.

 

The final match takes places in the Denen Colosseum.

 

Buffaloman faces Kinnikuman in a double match with Springman. There is only one hour left of the deadline, so Kinnikuman only has one hour to save Meat. The stadium is designed as a giant countdown, with bars around the edges that move for each second, and that will destroy pieces of Meat's body at the 30 minutes and 60 minute marks. Just as Kinnikuman is about to fight alone, Mongolman appears to make it a true tag-team match and join Kinnikuman in his fight against Springman and Buffaloman.

 

Despite it being called a tag-team match, Buffaloman's attention is focused exclusively on Kinnikuman, while Springman fights against Mongolman. Mongolman defeats Springman and saves Meat's limb. Buffaloman is an extremely tough opponent, and - changing color, as he uses the full force of his 10 million Chojin Power - uses his power to reverse Kinnikuman's techniques, including his trademark finishing move: the Kinniku Buster. During an exchange of blows, Harabote uncovers information on Buffaloman.

 

After Buffaloman helps fix Kinnikuman's mask, he becomes fully possessed by Satan. When Buffaloman goes beneath the ring, shredding the canvas with his horn, Kinnikuman uses his arm to stop the horn, and tosses him back onto the ring. Buffaloman loses control of his power when he absorbs Kinnikuman's Burning Inner Strength. Buffaloman pierces Kinnikuman's body with his horn, before - overwhelmed by The Fire - the power returns to Kinnikuman and allows him survive.

 

Due to the respect Kinnikuman showed him, even though they were mortal enemies, Buffaloman changes sides at the end of the match. He cries out the key that will free Meat's head, which allows Meat to be saved just before the final countdown. Buffaloman vows to join the Justice Chojin, if he survives Satan's punishment for defeat. He s fatally injured by Satan, but - before he dies - he gives up his Chojin Power, bought with the blood of other heroes, to bring back to life Warsman, Robin Mask and Wolfman, who had died fighting his teammates.

 

Golden Mask Arc

 

Kinnikuman struggles to make it through a door to the final match, and - at the last moment - Buffaloman uses his high chojin power to keep the door open for him. When Kinnikuman offers him a seat at the ring-side, on the side of the justice chojin, Buffaloman refuses and joins the devil chojin in the corner of Ashuraman. Ashuraman appears to gain the upper-hand, but - in a dispute with Meat - Buffaloman inadvertently gives Kinnikuman inspiration needed to counter-attack.

 

After Akuma Shogun murders Ashuraman, Buffaloman is inspired to rejoin the justice chojin.

 

He then confronts the Devil Knights leader, Akuma Shogun, in order to give Kinnikuman more time to perfect the Kinniku Driver. He is eventually defeated by Devil Shogun's Hell's Guillotine technique. During the fight between Akuma Shogun and Kinnikuman, Akuma Shogun begins to revive the Devil Knights and absorb them to become more powerful, but Buffaloman puts on Akuma Shogun's mask and fights them off, which gives Kinnikuman the chance he needed to defeat Akuma Shogun with the Kinniku Driver.

 

Dream Chojin Tag Arc

 

A second Mount Fuji appears in Japan.

 

On top of this mountain, the Universal Chojin Tag Team trophy appears. Underneath, there appears a series of rings that allow for eight tag-teams to compete. Buffaloman - along with the other justice chojin - goes to Kourakuen Hall to discuss the situation. Buffaloman refuses to team up with Kinnikuman and leaves. He sends a letter to Mongolman, asking him to join him as a new tag-team.

 

Buffaloman and Mongolman forms the 20 Million Powers. The name of their combo comes from Buffaloman's 10,000,000 power and Mongolman's 10,000,000 techniques (10 Million + 10 Million). In the first-round match-ups, the teams are required to navigate a labyrinth to be matched against their opponents, and the 20 Million Powers are matched against the Most Dangerous Combo. Just as the 20 Million Powers and Most Dangerous Combo are about to begin their fight, during the Dream Chojin Tag Arc, the Killer Game Combo arrive. This leads to the Killer Game Combo defeating the Most Dangerous Combo.

 

Brocken Jr. does not want his loss to count for nothing, so - to allow the 20 Million Powers to win - he challenges Buffaloman and allows himself to be pinned; this allows 20 Million Powers to officially win the match. This technical win allows the 20 Million Powers to advance to the next round, but the 20 Million Powers attack the Killer Game Combo for their intrusion. Buffaloman uses a feint against Screw Kid, but Mongolman - using the distraction to attack - injures his leg in the process.

 

Buffaloman is then struck by Kendaman, and the Killer Game Combo ask for formal permission to enter the tournament in the place of the Most Dangerous Combo. The 20 Million Powers declare that they will earn their place in the next round by first defeating the Killer Game Combo. The match began with a fierce one-on-one battle between Buffaloman and Kendaman, but Buffaloman tries a Hurricane Mixer on Kendaman, but it fails. Buffaloman is then caught in a Scorpion Defence by Kendaman.

 

He proceeds to break off his Long Horn and breaks the glass of the War-Cube, but is then attacked by a Hell's Screwdriver, which is only stopped by the thrown hair of Mongolman. Buffaloman counters with a powered-up Hurricane Mixer. Fearing the punishment that comes from failing their superiors, Screw Kid and Kendaman begin to use dirty tactics. At this point Neptuneman and Big the Budo reveal themselves, and Kendaman and Screw Kid abandon the match to attack them, and the 20 Million Powers win by default, as the Killer Game Combo are killed by the Hell Missionaries outside of the ring.

 

During the match-up lottery for the semi-final placements, the 20 Million Powers are matched with the Hell Missionaries. The first match is between the Muscle Brothers and the Stray Devil Chojin Combo, and the 20 Million Powers stay at the edge of the ring to act as spotters. At the end of the match, after the defeat of the Stray Devil Chojin Combo, the Hell Missionaries attack Sunshine, only to be stopped by the 20 Million Powers. They then allow the Hell Missionaries to attack, as the dolls - created by the Stray Devil Chojin to steal the justice chojin Friendship Power scatter, and thus creates animosity between the justice chojin.

 

The semi-final match against the Hell Missionaries is a simple barbed-wire cage match, but also a mask-removal death-match in which Mongolman must bet his mask. Buffaloman is thrown into the barbed wire by Neptuneman, who then switches with Mongolman, who is at a disadvantage from being unable to use the rope for his techniques. After being thrown into the screen cage, Mongolman rebounds with a kick.

 

After a series of blows, the 20 Million Powers seem to have the upper hand. Mongolman begins to suffer flashbacks within the ring, as the cage reminds him of his match against Warsman, and Buffaloman is unable to tag in, as both of the Hell Missionaries attack him. The spirit of Warsman helps Mongolman. Buffaloman is tagged in and uses a Buffalo Avalanche Drop. He proceeds to attach his Long Horn, and uses a Hurricane Heat. Mongolman is tagged into the match, but subject to a Cross Bomber.

 

Neptuneman uses his Magnet Power in retaliation. This heals the wounds of the Hell's Missionaries, and they try continuously to attack with Cross Bombers attacks, only to fail. Due to the Iron Sweat on Mongolman and Buffaloman, they are dragged towards the Hell Missionaries by their magnet power, and they almost defeat the 20 Million Powers with a Magnetic Storm Driver. The 20 Million Powers are then further attacked by a magnetic suplex. They are soon entangled in the magnetic barbed wires, as they regain their Friendship Power, and the Justice Chojin regain their power of friendship overall.

 

The iron sweat breaks from Mongoman and Buffaloman, and Buffaloman uses his Longhorn Train. This increases the power of the Hell's Missionaries, who use a Silhouette Body Press, and - after a series of blows - are thrown from the war-cube. The Hell's Missionaries summon thunder to increase their electrical power. Their Lightning Sabre attack renders Buffaloman and Ramenman immobile, and Buffaloman uses a fragment of Iron Sweat to draw Neptuneman away from Mongolman.

 

Buffaloman collapses against the mat, defeated by the Light Sabres.

 

Mongolman carries Buffaloman on his back, as they try again for a Longhorn Train, but they are defeated by a Magnetic Storm Crash. Once Ramenman is defeated, Buffaloman is rushed to hospital alongside Kinnikuman and Ramenman. At hospital, Doctor Bombe removes Buffaloman's horn in order to save Kinnikuman's arm, even knowing it would result in Buffaloman's death, but the tears in Buffaloman's eyes mark his consent to the procedure.

 

Blood Oath Brigade Formation!

 

This story covered the formation of Kinnikuman Soldier's team in detail. Brocken Jr. and Buffaloman want to join Soldier's team, but Asuraman and The Ninja aren't on board with that idea. According to Asuraman, Buffaloman is too easily swayed by his emotions, which is why he never became a Devil Knight despite having exceptional talent.

 

Kinnikuman Soldier shows up and interrupted Asuraman and The Ninja's departure. In response, The Ninja attempted to read Kinnikuman Soldier's mind with his Expose the Heart jutsu, but there's nothing to read. Unlike the other Fated Princes, Soldier has no ambition to destroy his opponents and take over the throne.

 

Asuraman gets into a fight against Soldier, but Soldier easily fends him off. Soldier even escaped the Asura Buster in a similar fashion to Kinnikuman and counters with a Dragon Cube Suplex. Buffaloman deduces why Soldier would pick those four. Pride is their main characteristic. According to Asuraman, "all four chojin are bull headed guys who won't listen to anyone".

 

Asuraman asks if Soldier is a fake Soldier and Soldier confirms this theory. He ambushed the real Soldier's team while they were training near Mt. Fuji and stole the real Soldier's mask. The fake Soldier explains that he joined the tournament because the Friendship Power the Justice Chojin use is a sham and that the pride that they share can bring out their true strength.

 

Asuraman wants Soldier to prove why this team of outcasts would make an excellent team. Soldier tells him to be silent. A real man would never talk so much. Instead, he'd silently watch the result with his own eyes. Asuraman follows up with his Tornado Hell, but Soldier dodges, causing the building already worn down by the Rolling Cube Suplex to collapse on top of them. Soldier heals them all with a Face Flash. With this act, Soldier convinced them to join his team for the upcoming tournament.

 

Survivor Match Arc

 

When Kinnikuman's right to the Kinniku Throne was challenged by five pretenders to the throne, Ataru Kinniku forms a team of five people to fight in a tournament to determine who shall be king of Planet Kinniku. Buffaloman - sans his horns - arrives at the house of Brocken Jr., along with Asuraman and The Ninja. Ataru asks them to join his team, as well as to meet him at Nagoya Castle in three days time, and - during that time - they watch him from a distance to ascertain his character.

 

After Ataru defeats Bockman and saves a boy, Buffaloman and the others decide to join his team. They proceed to enter Nagoya Castle and face against Team Phoenix, as they announce they have formed The Chojin Blood Oath Brigade. After the defeat of The Ninja and Asuraman, Nagoya and Himeji Castles fly away from their locations and join as one structure.

 

In the final match during the semi-finals battle against Team Super Phoenix and Team Soldier (Soldier, Buffaloman, and Brocken) competed in a 6-Man Tag Match against Super Phoenix (Mammothman, and Prisman). The match takes place in a floating multi-sided ring. Buffaloman, for the most part, fought against Mammothman. Tremendously weaker without his Long Horns, he found himself losing against the nearly unstoppable Mammothman. He was finally able to gain and advantage when Kinnikuman returned the Long Horns used to fix his arm before the Tag match finals. Soon after, Brocken took out Prisman, but then fell into the canyon below and died. Seeing how much Soldier and Buffaloman cared for their fallen comrade convinced Super Phoenix that Soldier wasn't the real Soldier.

 

As Soldier begins to have his true identity figured out by his own father Mayumi as his long-lost elder son Ataru, the Evil Gods choose to sabotage him to eliminate him and help Phoenix win the tournament. The God of Brutality steals a page from the Muscle Prophecy, a book owned by Kinniku Clan royalty which contains past, present, and even future information on every Chojin ever, as a means to reveal who Soldier is to Super Phoenix. As the God of Brutality attempts to give the page to Super Phoenix via Mammothman, Buffaloman sees a vision of Mayumi in his head, forcing him to take the page to protect it. As the mammoth Chojin prepares to hand it to Phoenix, the bull Chojin performs the Chojin Cross Drop on him, jumping out of the ring and forcing Buffaloman to hold the page in his mouth. As they fall, Mammothman hits Buffaloman with his Nose Fencing technique and retains the page. At the last second, Buffaloman hits Mammothman with a Buffalo Bomb on the roof of the Himeji/Nagoya castle and saves the page again.

 

The Evil Gods then arrived and began attacking the floating ring in an attempt to take out Ataru. As the ring fell, Buffaloman caught it and held it up. Weakened from the battle with Mammothman, he put on a red headband given to him by the other Justice Chojins and found enough strength to not only hold the ring up longer but also remove his arm guards and toss them up to Ataru. He then pushed it into the air and as it fell again, he jumped up and hit it with a Hurricane Mixer, successfully putting it back in mid-air. Unfortunately, Buffaloman had no more strength and fell into the canyon below. He is revived (along with his teammates) after the tournament by Kinnikuman's Face Flash.

 

Kinnikuman 2011

 

Perfect Origin Arc

 

Prehistory

Like all the other Idol Chojin, Buffaloman was sent off to his home of Spain by Harabote so he could be placed in Medical Suspension, to help him recover from his many injuries from matches past.

 

However, when he finished his Medical Suspension and made his return while the Seven Devil Chojin invaded the full-scale tournament going on, he declared he was a Devil Chojin again, renegading on his Idol Chojin friends out of nowhere.

 

The Seven Devil Chojin reconvene in their base. Buffaloman returns, where they all decide which of the Perfect Large Numbers they shall do battle against, and Buffaloman decides to fight against Strong the Budo, due to the fact that whomever fights him will likely lose and he will not sacrifice his teammates. The Mountain refuses to allow this to happen, and offers to sacrifice himself instead, due to the team needing Buffaloman to serve as their leader. He asks only that Buffaloman not avert his gaze during his match.

 

After Black Hole's match with Dalmatiman, Buffaloman announces that the Devil Chojin are going to purge all Perfect Chojin for their master, Devil Shogun. During the first stage, he mostly oversees how the Devil Chojin fight the Perfect Chojin.

 

In a flashback, it's revealed that Buffaloman made the choice to return to the Devil Chojin and fight alongside them, which the Seven Devil Chojin welcomed greatly. But they wouldn't let him join them to fight the Perfect Large Numbers because he was their "ace", their leader and without them, the Seven Devil Chojin couldn't perform at their best.

 

Diablos vs. John Does

 

Grim Reaper and Turboman enter with the New Large Numbers.

 

Grim Reaper reveals the next location - of the second-stage of the tournament - will be the Saqqara Pyramid, which has been relocated to Japan's Tottori Dunes. The Grim Reaper lands on the third step, while Turboman takes the fourth step. The Justice Chojin follow them to the mountain, and Buffaloman is assigned against Turboman, who attacks him with a drop-kick before he can enter the ring.

 

He then drags Buffaloman into the ring with a Turboman Stunner. Turboman punches Buffaloman while he's down, until Buffaloman counters with a headbutt and proceeds to use a back-drop. It is then that Springman arrives on the fourth step to fight the Grim Reaper. Grim Reaper begin the match with a Buzzsaw Hat, which cuts Springman's leg as he enters the ring with a jump.

 

Grim Reaper throws Springman against the corner-post, but the post goes through Springman's hollow body and allows him to remain unharmed, and a Spring-Body Breaking-Squeeze breaks the corner-post. A Spring Transfer allows him to distract Grim Reaper, whereby he land a drop-kick to the face. While Turboman and Grim Reaper, struggle in their matches and appear to be losing, Jak Tea fights against Black Hole and creates a strong geyser before he dies. This creates a crack along the pyramid.

 

Turboman frees himself from Buffaloman with a Somersault Kick. He tries a body-press, but Buffaloman catches him and counters with a back-flip. The fifth step finally collapses from the cracks and descends into the fourth step, where the two single matches combine into one tag-match. Turboman gets Buffaloman into a tombstone pile-driver, but - as he prepares for another attack - Springman and Buffaloman combine to use a Chojin Dodgeball. Springman is chastised for attacking Turboman, who was not his original opponent, as the match rules must abide by those of a single-match (due to the unusual circumstances).

 

The two teams agree to form a tag-team match with tag-team rules.

 

Springman lunges at Turboman, who uses a lariat and a Starter Revolver, but gets his arm caught inside Springma, who retaliates with a Spring Cyclone. Springman proceeds to use a Killer-Coil Head Attack. A second attempt at the attack is deflected by Turboman's a back-kick. It nearly knocks Springman out of the ring, until Buffaloman catches him. Turboman charges with a flying-cross, but the Diabolos counter again with a Devil Expander. Buffaloman then bounces off Springman to kick Turboman, who proceeds with a series of blows. Turboman uses a Glove Revolver and a Turbine Chop.

 

Buffaloman and Turboman return to their corners, and Turboman tags in Grim Reaper, who spins around on Turboman's head and delivers an Ignition Dress to Buffaloman. They proceed to use a John Does Arrow. The Diabolos try another Devil Expander, but Turboman dives through Springman and knocks Buffaloman out of the ring, before hitting him again with another John Does Arrows. A High-Capacity John Does Arrow sends Turboman towards Buffaloman, who manages to catch him and slams him against the wall, which causes the wall to crumble into the shape of a flight of stairs.

 

This allows Springman to use a Devil Slinky. He uses a Spring Body-Breaking Squeeze, which causes Turboman's body to start to glow, as Turboman stores the energy of his opponents. Turboman uses a High-Speed Turbo-Crash, as their two attacks seem to create a stalemate, but soon the release of Turboman's energy causes Springman to harden. He proceeds to stab Springman in his face with Revolver Spikes, and a Revolver Fin causes Springman's body to crash into Buffaloman.

 

Springman finds strength to lift Buffaloman, despite his weakened state. The Diabolos attempt a Long Horn Train, but - when it only glances off Turboman - follow with a Most Super Express. They follow with a third attack, which against glances off Turboman, but Turboman finds strength to use a Revolver Stud while Springman starts to crumble away. Springman uses all his strength to throw Buffaloman into a Hurricane Mixer, and Buffaloman's horns break through Turboman's Revolver attack and pierce his chest. This leads to Turboman's death, followed by Springman dying within Buffaloman's arms.

 

The Grim Reaper proceeds to Turboman's corpse, where he opens Turboman's back and steals his Earth Unit (which allows him to store energy to use against an opponent), and then kicks Turboman's body out of the ring. The Grim Reaper removes his robe, which he uses to taunt Buffaloman like a matador, and uses a Skeleton Body to avoid being struck with a Hurricane Mixer. The Grim Reaper states that people fall victim to Buffaloman's attack due to fear and fidgety movements, but - knowing no fear - he cannot be hurt.

 

The Grim Reaper grabs Buffaloman by his horns, before grabbing at his skin and flipping him over, and - in the process - tears chunks of skin from Buffaloman. The Grim Reaper proceeds to tear off more skin from Buffaloman, and attacks with a Dress Spear, which reveals all the scars on Buffaloman's body from previous matches. He is eventually countered by Buffaloman's Buffalo Hammer. The Grim Reaper proceeds to capture Buffaloman's legs, as he sets up for a John Does Arrows, before revealing it can double as a solo-technique called the Phantom Canon.

Baeza es un municipio de España, la ciudad capital de dicho municipio y cabeza del partido judicial homónimo. Se encuentra en el mismo centro geográfico de la provincia de Jaén (en el noreste de la Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía) enclavada en la comarca de La Loma de la que se considera su capital occidental.

En la actualidad es conocida por su ingente producción olivarera, su abundante legado monumental, y por ser sede universitaria desde el siglo XVI, albergando hoy día una de las sedes de la Universidad Internacional de Andalucía.

Denominada "Nido Real de Gavilanes" por el romancero, fue un punto clave en la conquista de al-Ándalus por los reyes cristianos; pasando definitivamente al reino de Castilla en 1227. Atalaya sobre el Guadalquivir, la posesión de su alcázar (considerado como inexpugnable) aseguró la retaguardia castellana, la vez que supuso una amenaza constante para los reinos islámicos situados al oeste y al sur del Guadalquivir; una amenaza que se hizo efectiva durante los más de dos siglos de lucha fronteriza que separaron la incorporación de Baeza al reino de Castilla y la caída del reino nazarí de Granada (1492).

Durante el período de gran crecimiento demográfico y económico que supuso la mayor parte del siglo XVI, y aún en parte del XVII, Baeza construyó sus edificios públicos y administrativos con alto sentido de capitalidad y con la más alta dignidad, conformando así, junto con las construcciones eclesiásticas, un tejido urbano caracterizado por una monumentalidad que ha dado a la ciudad un encanto especial a los ojos del visitante.

En 1943 se fundó en Baeza la academia de las escalas de Cabos y Guardias y de Suboficiales de la Guardia Civil.

Se encuentra a unos 48 km al noreste de la capital provincial, y limita por el este con el municipio de Úbeda, con el que comparte la capitalidad de la histórica Comarca de La Loma.

El 3 de julio de 2003, y tras varios años de intentos, la UNESCO declara finalmente a Baeza (junto a Úbeda) Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Este acontecimiento profundiza el relanzamiento de la ciudad al incrementar considerablemente el interés del sector turístico.

Baeza se asienta sobre un terreno que ha estado continuamente habitado, al menos desde la Edad del Bronce. Por esta razón, y a pesar de las sucesivas destrucciones sufridas por las construcciones de todos los períodos, la ciudad aún retiene un destacado patrimonio monumental en el que están representadas diversas culturas, períodos y estilos artísticos. En Baeza pueden contemplarse restos de la Edad del Bronce, de la Época Romana, y de la Hispania visigoda, islámica y cristiana. No obstante, el más rico patrimonio monumental conservado corresponde a los diversos estilos artísticos presentes en la Baeza cristiana: desde el tardo-románico y el gótico, al renacentista, manierista, barroco y neoclásico. No en vano en 2003 el casco histórico de la población, con su antigua ciudad intramuros, fue declarado Patrimonio Mundial por la Unesco.

Baeza, situada en la cornisa sur de la gran meseta que es La Loma, se asoma al valle del Guadalquivir desde un acantilado que domina un paisaje de cerros infinitos; dicho acantilado, visto desde el llano parece sustentar la catedral como un faro.

La ciudad originaria estaba edificada sobre este cerro y en torno a una ciudadela, hoy desconocida: el celebérrimo alcázar de Baeza, reputado como inexpugnable y dentro del cual se encontraban el castillo-palacio de la autoridad real y la iglesia (luego colegiata) de Santa María del Alcázar. Estas construcciones, lejos de surgir ex novo, fueron una continuación de similares edificaciones de los períodos oretano, cartaginés y romano; restos de los cuales aún pueden contemplarse en el cerro junto a otros de la precedente Edad del Bronce.

Desde esta atalaya entendemos que la ciudad fuera una gran plaza fuerte donde, un día, se remansó la gran epopeya reconquistadora revitalizada por Las Navas de Tolosa. No obstante, a fines del s. XV el alcázar fue derribado por mandato de la reina Isabel la Católica de modo que no siguiera siendo utilizado como defensa con ocasión de las pugnas nobiliarias que enfrentaban por entonces (como en toda Castilla) a los linajes dominantes de la ciudad (Carvajales y Benavides).

Consecuencia del derribo del alcázar, el cerro fue perdiendo pobladores hasta el punto de estar casi despoblado en el s. XVIII y trasladarse por ello la colegiata a la parroquia de San Andrés. También desaparecido el frente sur de la muralla, adyacente al alcázar, el paseo que lo reemplaza es hoy día un mirador excepcional sobre el valle alto del Guadalquivir, y el cerro mismo, un parque arqueológico de primer nivel pendiente de excavaciones más ambiciosas.

Su centro neurálgico es la Plaza de Santa María establecida en la baja edad media, y hasta el s. XIX, como sede de los poderes que rigen la ciudad: el civil y el religioso; en ella se encuentran hoy:

La Catedral de la Natividad de Nuestra Señora: edificada sobre la antigua mezquita que (según tradición histórica) había sido construida a su vez sobre un templo visigodo anterior, fue la primera consagrada en Andalucía con ocasión de la reconquista castellana.

Las Cancillerías góticas o Casas Consistoriales Altas: sede del concejo de la ciudad entre fines del s. XV y el s. XIX, cuando el consistorio municipal traslada su sede al antiguo palacio del corregidor.

La Fuente de Santa María: situada en el centro de la plaza fue edificada en el año 1564 para marcar la finalización de las obras de traída de aguas a la ciudad.

El Seminario de San Felipe Neri (1660): tiene fachada de buena sillería, puerta de medio punto, frontón partido y vítores estudiantiles.

Al norte de este conjunto, y junto a la Puerta del Barbudo, se halla la sede de la antigua universidad Santísima Trinidad, otra importante Institución eclesiástica de la Edad Moderna hoy Instituto. El edificio es de estilo manierista (fines del s. XVI) y consta de claustro, en torno al cual se organizan las dependencias universitarias, y una amplia capilla; contando cada uno de estos elemento con portada propia. Destaca, sobre la puerta de acceso al claustro, el medallón labrado con el tema de la Santísima Trinidad. En esa misma fachada pueden verse los escudos del canónigo Fernández de Córdoba (donante del edificio) timbrados con un impropio galero arzobispal.

De las primeras parroquias intramuros han desaparecido por completo la colegiata de Santa María, San Miguel y San Gil; solo permanecen:

Las Ruinas de la parroquia de San Pedro: iglesia románica de la que sólo se conservan el ábside (parcialmente visible al exterior) y restos considerables de la portada norte (dentro de propiedad particular). Parcelada en viviendas desde el s. XIX, su fábrica ha ido deteriorándose y se han abierto nuevos vanos en el ábside.

Las Ruinas de la parroquia de San Juan: iglesia tardorrománica de la que sólo se conservan los tres ábsides de la cabecera, el muro del lado del evangelio y los capiteles y basas de sus seis columnas. Recientemente, estos restos han sido consolidados y su acceso abierto al público.

La Iglesia de Santa Cruz

Esta última se halla en la plaza del mismo nombre frente al Palacio de Jabalquinto, el más destacado de la ciudad intramuros y uno de los emblemas de Baeza. Pero la ciudad intramuros está, además, plagada de rincones con otros palacios y casonas de interés, como la Casa de Avilés (mediados del s. XVI), la Casa de los Galeote (segunda mitad del s. XVI), la Casa de los Ávila (comienzos del s. XVII), la Casa de los Fuentecilla, la Casa de los Canónigos, el Palacio de los Obispos (todos del s. XVIII) o el Palacio Rubín de Ceballos (principios del s. XIX).

El trazado de la muralla históricamente conocida, y de la que aún subsisten importantes elementos, obedece a un diseño islámico del s. XI. No obstante, las edificaciones conservadas responden más bien a reconstrucciones cristianas posteriores.

La Plaza del Pópulo (o de Los Leones) está inmediatamente al norte de la ciudad amurallada y al oeste de El Paseo, organizándose en torno a la Puerta de Jaén, única construcción de la plaza perteneciente a la muralla; las otras edificaciones de la misma han ido añadiéndose en distintas épocas:

El Arco de Villalar: directamente a continuación de la Puerta de Jaén, fue erigido con ocasión de la visita del rey Carlos I (1526) y conmemora la victoria real en la batalla de Villalar.

La Casa del Pópulo: edificio plateresco que albergaba la audiencia civil y las escribanías públicas; hoy, oficina de turismo.

La Fuente de los Leones: manantial natural que la interpretación histórica tradicional postula monumento arqueológico procedente de la antigua ciudad iberorromana de Cástulo, hipótesis que se sustenta en la continuidad histórica deliberadamente mantenida con ocasión del traslado a Baeza de la capitalidad administrativa y episcopal de la desaparecida Cástulo. Según esta interpretación, parejas de felinos y équidos (actuando como surtidores) rodean una figura femenina identificada como Himilce. Más recientemente, se ha propuesto identificar esta fuente como previamente proveniente de un patio del alcázar.

La Antigua Carnicería (s. XVI): trasladada a su emplazamiento actual en los sesenta del s. XX, estaba originalmente apoyada contra la muralla en la antaño populosa plaza intramuros sita al otro lado de la Puerta de Jaén; hoy cumple las funciones de palacio de justicia del Partido judicial de Baeza.

Al este del conjunto anterior, más allá de El Paseo (plaza cuyo lado sur se antepone a la Puerta del Barbudo) encontramos:

La Torre de los Aliatares (o de los Altares): denominada así de acuerdo con la tradición que la hace, en tiempos anteriores a la reconquista, posesión del linaje musulmán de ese mismo nombre. Tiene veinticinco metros de altura, con almenas copiadas del Arco de Villalar y ostenta el reloj público de la ciudad.

Hacia el sureste de la anterior hallamos:

La Puerta de Úbeda: de las principales de la muralla; protegida por su torre albarrana hoy sólo conserva uno de sus arcos, habiendo sido desmantelados los otros dos en el s. XIX.

La actual Plaza de España, situada en el extremo noreste de lo que fue la ciudad amurallada; se conoce como tal la gran plaza edificada sobre la rambla por la que vienen a desaguar las tres colinas sobre las cuales se asienta la urbe. Su fisonomía es porticada, muy castellana. Servía de escenario para los eventos taurinos, fiestas y ajusticiamientos públicos. A partir del s. XIX fue cuando se convirtió en un paseo romántico.

En su lado sur encontramos la mencionada torre de Los Aliatares y La Alhondiga, e inmediatamente tras ella El Pósito. En su cara norte se hallan las Casas Consistoriales Bajas o Balcón del Concejo (s. XVII), lugar desde donde los munícipes presenciaban las corridas de toros celebradas en la plaza. Finalmente, y de este a oeste, también encontramos en las inmediaciones de su lado septentrional:

La Iglesia de la Purísima Concepción: capilla del antiguo hospital homónimo edificada a principios del s. XVII (el hospital desapareció en el s. XX).

Convento de San Francisco y Ruinas de la Capilla de los Benavides: sustituyendo un templo gótico construido en el que era tercer solar ocupado en Baeza por la comunidad franciscana, Diego de Valencia Benavides encargó en 1538 a Andrés de Vandelvira la construcción de la cabecera de un nuevo templo conventual, que habría de albergar su capilla funeraria y que acabó siendo la obra maestra de aquel artista y un hito de la arquitectura renacentista española. Lamentablemente el terremoto de Lisboa quebrantó la bóveda cruzada y la invasión napoleónica acabó de arruinar el templo.

I don't consider myself a materialistic kind of person, but I have never been happier about a gift. Except maybe about the camera itself. My aunt gave it to me as a 8th of March gift (before 8th of March obviously). I'm a perfectionist: sometimes that makes my life so much difficult. Maybe I look quiet, calm and a little naive at the beginning, but I'm not. I can swear and shout when I'm angry too, which comes as a surprise to some people. I wish it snowed in Barcelona because I miss snow so much. That's one of the (many) reasons why I come back to Russia as often as I can. Once I leave, I know I'll miss some little things that may seem stupid to some people, but that for me are little parts of the whole. Like the voice that announces the next station in the tram. Or the long and steep escalators in the underground. If I could go back in the time, I'd do a lot of things differently. I know I can't so I try to look at things positively. But it not always works and since I tend to keep things inside, I am more likely to have a breakdown than to shout at friends and family (although I can too). I've kept a diary since I was ten. It feels awkward and even uncomfortable to read your own words ten years later but I'm glad I can. Because it reminds how much I've changed.

 

Listen. The song it's not related to the photo. I don't even play to that game. But I love rock and I love that song, so I guess it's related to how I am.

Tradition considers it the oldest church in Venice, consecrated on March 25, 421. It was begun thanks to the vow of a carpenter, a certain Candioto or Eutinopo, who turned to the titular saint to put out a serious fire. According to the chronicle of the doge Andrea Dandolo, the Paduan community participated in the construction in large numbers and one of the bishops present at the consecration rite, the bishop Severiano dei Dauli, was Paduan. Tradition has it that the people of Rivoalto, to thank Padua, in turn donated the church of San Clemente Papa. Studies have shown, however, that the building is much later: for example, in the donation of the Orio family, a document from 1097, the land on which it stands is described, without mentioning the church. The first certain mention dates back to May 1152, when it speaks of a Henricum Navigaiosum plebanum sancti Johannis et sancti Jacobi de Rivoalto. The construction would therefore date back to the 11th century with the solemn consecration by Pope Alexander III on 25 July 1177, as evidenced by the plaque affixed to the facade of the church with which plenary indulgence is granted.

 

In 1513 it escaped the serious fire that devastated the adjacent commercial area. It was restored in 1531, as evidenced by the plaque placed next to the portal; in 1601 the doge Marino Grimani ordered a new restoration, during which the floor was raised to face the high water and the original Latin plan was transformed into the current Greek cross plan

La Pulpería de Cacho es considerada como uno de los lugares típicos de la ciudad de Mercedes. Allí se filmaron varias películas, e incluso una conocida banda de rock local en los 80 llevaría ese nombre de “La Pulpería”.

His camera was stolen by an occupation soldier in the postwar turmoil. Today I still regret that I could not save all glass negatives from him, much was thrown away. Most of all, it hurts me by the fact that I could never get to know him because he died long before I was born ....

o Porto foi considerado o Melhor Destino de Cidade do Mundo 2022. O reconhecimento foi entregue esta sexta-feira à noite, na cerimónia dos World Travel Awards, em Mascate, Omã.

 

O Porto deixou para trás as cidades mexicanas de Acapulco, Cancún e Mazatlán; Bogotá, na Colômbia; Quito, no Equador; a sul-africana Cidade do Cabo; a queniana Nairobi; o Dubai, nos Emirados Árabes Unidos; as norte-americanas Las Vegas, Miami e Nova Iorque; Hanoi, (Vietname), Hong Kong (China), as australianas Melbourne e Sydney, além da neo-zelandesa Queenstown; Londres, Lyon, Marraquexe, e a cidade de Lisboa.

 

A cerimónia de entrega dos prémios, considerados os “óscares” do Turismo, reuniu a presença dos principais decisores, figuras de relevo e destaque do setor, assim como influenciadores e a comunicação social especializada.

 

Recebeu o galardão em representação do Município do Porto a vereadora com o pelouro do Turismo e Internacionalização, Catarina Santos Cunha, numa gala em que também esteve presente o presidente da Associação de Turismo do Porto, Luís Pedro Martins.

 

As votações para os World Travel Awards estiveram abertas ao público até 20 de outubro, numa corrida em que o Porto ainda concorria como Melhor Destino de Cidade Patrimonial do Mundo. Antes disso, a cidade Invicta já havia sido vencedora nas vertentes regionais do concurso, assumindo a distinção de Melhor Destino de Cidade da Europa.

 

Os World Travel Awards cobrem todo o espectro da indústria de viagens e turismo, desde hotéis, resorts e destinos a companhias aéreas e operadoras de turismo de todo o mundo, sendo reconhecidos globalmente como marca de excelência.

  

Consider this a very late entry to the TBB Advent Calendar contest! Actually just some fun building practice before I start my next proper LEGO project.

Sitting in Remer, Minnesota (pop. 360) are both a nicely restored depot and caboose, both of Soo Line Railroad lineage. The depot was constructed in 1910 and used the "Standard Second Class" design common to hundreds of Soo Line depots in small towns. Remer was situated along the Soo Line's main line between Moose Lake and Plummer, Minnesota but most of the line was abandoned in the 1980's. According to Wikipedia, in 2009, a motion-activated camera captured a picture of what some consider to be Bigfoot in an area near Remer, MN. Since then, Remer has been known as the Bigfoot capital of the world. And if that's not enough, the SOO Line Lounge is opening shortly at least according to the sign.

Of course we don't need to sit down up here, and I am not complaining at all, but sometimes that wonderful feeling of relaxation – that moment when you change from running around to letting yourself drop into a chair – that moment can be wonderful I am sure you all agree, and we do miss it sometimes! I think Mark did here too and made a makeshift reading table to enjoy a book – absolutely unnecessary in weightlessness but so nice to construct some semblances of normal life every now and again! 📖

This wig was made using soy fibre. Its a natural blonde colour with hints of salmon pink. I guess you could consider soy, cut in this way, to be like the ultimate, most luxurious, glorified fur wig that money can buy! I absolutely love it. It takes just as long as a long wig would though, or actually probably even longer since the pieces need to be cut as you apply them to the wig cap.

 

If you love the flexible styling of fur but don't like the texture or how 'cheap' it can feel (I'm a raging fur fan but it doesn't feel expensive, does it?) then you'll definitely love this.

 

Its also vegetarian friendly (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

I often consider myself delusional and a fantasist. I say that because I live as a man, more accurately I am actually a man, yet I have this desire to appear a a woman! As a teenager this confused me greatly and I became very withdrawn as the desire was pretty powerful. I have mentioned previously how discovering the word transvestite was my salvation, it set me free.

 

I used to fantasise a lot as a young man about things dreamed of doing as a girl. I would get upset that I had no breasts, my genitals were male and then feel distraught as I considered do I want to be a girl full time. The realisation was part of me did yet part me did not want that at all. I was straddling two powerful emotions which caused further withdrawal and confusion as tried to work it all out.

 

I was a quite a bland somewhat invisible figure as a teenager and still am as an adult man yet when I was eighteen i wanted to be a model. Not a male model a female model! How delusional was that? I wanted nothing more than a career n modelling as a girl and O wanted to be an actress. Alongside that though a parallel desire was running in tandem, I liked the idea of being a man that impersonated women, the thrill of being transvestite excited me. The whole notion of dressing up and illusion and doing something my upbringing would say was wrong had a hold on me. I loved the whole transformation and pretence of becoming what I really was not. The adventure was dressing up as a girl yet knowing I was really a boy. It was at times a reckless thing and eventually my lack of nerve caused me to suppress the whole thing.

 

As I grew into middle age it was inevitable the suppression would fail and I would become a practicing transvestite. Rather embarrassingly, I still had my fantasies of being a female model and an actress. By this point I was a bald middle aged man with a very dark beard shadow, what chance did I have of being a woman? My realisation of being delusional and a fantasist really hit home.

 

I am aware due to various experiences I’ve had of our mortality and that time can pass too quickly. I vividly remember driving to work one day and deciding ‘do you know what. I am going to try modelling as a woman’. Obviously I was not going to get hired by Vogue or Cosmopolitan and I thought how much I really wanted to do this. I wanted to turn up at a studio as a man, sit in a make-up chair and be painted up in heavy make-up for a studio shoot and pose as if I was a woman modelling on camera.

 

How though could I do this without being ridiculed? My answer was it was likely people would think I was odd but I had to have the experience I dreamed of. I decided I would hire a make-up artist and photographer with a studio. In my research I came across Jodie Lynn of The Boudoir dressing service. After a few e-mail exchanges and looking through her website I thought this was a great solution. A sympathetic make-up artist and photographer who had a business totally geared to transvestites and fulfilling their dreams.

 

I made the booking and after a very long trip south in July 2002 I fund myself one morning in London with a completely shaved body, plucked eyebrows finally sat in a make-up chair about to become a female for the day and step on to a photo set as a woman. When jodie painted on the first bit of make-up I almost feinted with a heady mix of emotions. I had dreamed of this moment since i was a teenager and now this was it, it was actually happening! I could barely speak and started to shake. Fortunately Jodie calmed me down and turned me into a woman.

this may sound mad but when I finally stepped onto the set for the photos my head kind of exploded internally, I felt reborn, I was suddenly empowered and a sensation of euphoria like i had never experienced consumed me. I caught sight of myself in make-up, long hair, painted nails, with breasts and wearing lingerie , female clothing and a joyous shout of ‘Yes!’ cried out inside me. I felt I had arrived after years of avoiding my true hopes.

 

I am sure I was a terrible model but this was pure one hundred percent indulgence and as Jodie and Mike the photographer did not know me I could cast off my inhibitions and become the woman I dreamed of being. I recall laughing a lot and daring to do things I had never ever done, it felt liberating and I did enjoy living out my fantasy.

 

Many would see me as pathetic and embarrassing for what I did but I needed to do it for myself. it was a selfish and also expensive indulgence yet it gave me so much and even now nearly thirteen years later I can still feel joy just recalling the whole day. That was how powerful the whole experience was for me, a lifelong dream had finally been set free.

Baeza es un municipio de España, la ciudad capital de dicho municipio y cabeza del partido judicial homónimo. Se encuentra en el mismo centro geográfico de la provincia de Jaén (en el noreste de la Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía) enclavada en la comarca de La Loma de la que se considera su capital occidental.

En la actualidad es conocida por su ingente producción olivarera, su abundante legado monumental, y por ser sede universitaria desde el siglo XVI, albergando hoy día una de las sedes de la Universidad Internacional de Andalucía.

Denominada "Nido Real de Gavilanes" por el romancero, fue un punto clave en la conquista de al-Ándalus por los reyes cristianos; pasando definitivamente al reino de Castilla en 1227. Atalaya sobre el Guadalquivir, la posesión de su alcázar (considerado como inexpugnable) aseguró la retaguardia castellana, la vez que supuso una amenaza constante para los reinos islámicos situados al oeste y al sur del Guadalquivir; una amenaza que se hizo efectiva durante los más de dos siglos de lucha fronteriza que separaron la incorporación de Baeza al reino de Castilla y la caída del reino nazarí de Granada (1492).

Durante el período de gran crecimiento demográfico y económico que supuso la mayor parte del siglo XVI, y aún en parte del XVII, Baeza construyó sus edificios públicos y administrativos con alto sentido de capitalidad y con la más alta dignidad, conformando así, junto con las construcciones eclesiásticas, un tejido urbano caracterizado por una monumentalidad que ha dado a la ciudad un encanto especial a los ojos del visitante.

En 1943 se fundó en Baeza la academia de las escalas de Cabos y Guardias y de Suboficiales de la Guardia Civil.

Se encuentra a unos 48 km al noreste de la capital provincial, y limita por el este con el municipio de Úbeda, con el que comparte la capitalidad de la histórica Comarca de La Loma.

El 3 de julio de 2003, y tras varios años de intentos, la UNESCO declara finalmente a Baeza (junto a Úbeda) Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Este acontecimiento profundiza el relanzamiento de la ciudad al incrementar considerablemente el interés del sector turístico.

Baeza se asienta sobre un terreno que ha estado continuamente habitado, al menos desde la Edad del Bronce. Por esta razón, y a pesar de las sucesivas destrucciones sufridas por las construcciones de todos los períodos, la ciudad aún retiene un destacado patrimonio monumental en el que están representadas diversas culturas, períodos y estilos artísticos. En Baeza pueden contemplarse restos de la Edad del Bronce, de la Época Romana, y de la Hispania visigoda, islámica y cristiana. No obstante, el más rico patrimonio monumental conservado corresponde a los diversos estilos artísticos presentes en la Baeza cristiana: desde el tardo-románico y el gótico, al renacentista, manierista, barroco y neoclásico. No en vano en 2003 el casco histórico de la población, con su antigua ciudad intramuros, fue declarado Patrimonio Mundial por la Unesco.

Baeza, situada en la cornisa sur de la gran meseta que es La Loma, se asoma al valle del Guadalquivir desde un acantilado que domina un paisaje de cerros infinitos; dicho acantilado, visto desde el llano parece sustentar la catedral como un faro.

La ciudad originaria estaba edificada sobre este cerro y en torno a una ciudadela, hoy desconocida: el celebérrimo alcázar de Baeza, reputado como inexpugnable y dentro del cual se encontraban el castillo-palacio de la autoridad real y la iglesia (luego colegiata) de Santa María del Alcázar. Estas construcciones, lejos de surgir ex novo, fueron una continuación de similares edificaciones de los períodos oretano, cartaginés y romano; restos de los cuales aún pueden contemplarse en el cerro junto a otros de la precedente Edad del Bronce.

Desde esta atalaya entendemos que la ciudad fuera una gran plaza fuerte donde, un día, se remansó la gran epopeya reconquistadora revitalizada por Las Navas de Tolosa. No obstante, a fines del s. XV el alcázar fue derribado por mandato de la reina Isabel la Católica de modo que no siguiera siendo utilizado como defensa con ocasión de las pugnas nobiliarias que enfrentaban por entonces (como en toda Castilla) a los linajes dominantes de la ciudad (Carvajales y Benavides).

Consecuencia del derribo del alcázar, el cerro fue perdiendo pobladores hasta el punto de estar casi despoblado en el s. XVIII y trasladarse por ello la colegiata a la parroquia de San Andrés. También desaparecido el frente sur de la muralla, adyacente al alcázar, el paseo que lo reemplaza es hoy día un mirador excepcional sobre el valle alto del Guadalquivir, y el cerro mismo, un parque arqueológico de primer nivel pendiente de excavaciones más ambiciosas.

Su centro neurálgico es la Plaza de Santa María establecida en la baja edad media, y hasta el s. XIX, como sede de los poderes que rigen la ciudad: el civil y el religioso; en ella se encuentran hoy:

La Catedral de la Natividad de Nuestra Señora: edificada sobre la antigua mezquita que (según tradición histórica) había sido construida a su vez sobre un templo visigodo anterior, fue la primera consagrada en Andalucía con ocasión de la reconquista castellana.

Las Cancillerías góticas o Casas Consistoriales Altas: sede del concejo de la ciudad entre fines del s. XV y el s. XIX, cuando el consistorio municipal traslada su sede al antiguo palacio del corregidor.

La Fuente de Santa María: situada en el centro de la plaza fue edificada en el año 1564 para marcar la finalización de las obras de traída de aguas a la ciudad.

El Seminario de San Felipe Neri (1660): tiene fachada de buena sillería, puerta de medio punto, frontón partido y vítores estudiantiles.

Al norte de este conjunto, y junto a la Puerta del Barbudo, se halla la sede de la antigua universidad Santísima Trinidad, otra importante Institución eclesiástica de la Edad Moderna hoy Instituto. El edificio es de estilo manierista (fines del s. XVI) y consta de claustro, en torno al cual se organizan las dependencias universitarias, y una amplia capilla; contando cada uno de estos elemento con portada propia. Destaca, sobre la puerta de acceso al claustro, el medallón labrado con el tema de la Santísima Trinidad. En esa misma fachada pueden verse los escudos del canónigo Fernández de Córdoba (donante del edificio) timbrados con un impropio galero arzobispal.

De las primeras parroquias intramuros han desaparecido por completo la colegiata de Santa María, San Miguel y San Gil; solo permanecen:

Las Ruinas de la parroquia de San Pedro: iglesia románica de la que sólo se conservan el ábside (parcialmente visible al exterior) y restos considerables de la portada norte (dentro de propiedad particular). Parcelada en viviendas desde el s. XIX, su fábrica ha ido deteriorándose y se han abierto nuevos vanos en el ábside.

Las Ruinas de la parroquia de San Juan: iglesia tardorrománica de la que sólo se conservan los tres ábsides de la cabecera, el muro del lado del evangelio y los capiteles y basas de sus seis columnas. Recientemente, estos restos han sido consolidados y su acceso abierto al público.

La Iglesia de Santa Cruz

Esta última se halla en la plaza del mismo nombre frente al Palacio de Jabalquinto, el más destacado de la ciudad intramuros y uno de los emblemas de Baeza. Pero la ciudad intramuros está, además, plagada de rincones con otros palacios y casonas de interés, como la Casa de Avilés (mediados del s. XVI), la Casa de los Galeote (segunda mitad del s. XVI), la Casa de los Ávila (comienzos del s. XVII), la Casa de los Fuentecilla, la Casa de los Canónigos, el Palacio de los Obispos (todos del s. XVIII) o el Palacio Rubín de Ceballos (principios del s. XIX).

El trazado de la muralla históricamente conocida, y de la que aún subsisten importantes elementos, obedece a un diseño islámico del s. XI. No obstante, las edificaciones conservadas responden más bien a reconstrucciones cristianas posteriores.

La Plaza del Pópulo (o de Los Leones) está inmediatamente al norte de la ciudad amurallada y al oeste de El Paseo, organizándose en torno a la Puerta de Jaén, única construcción de la plaza perteneciente a la muralla; las otras edificaciones de la misma han ido añadiéndose en distintas épocas:

El Arco de Villalar: directamente a continuación de la Puerta de Jaén, fue erigido con ocasión de la visita del rey Carlos I (1526) y conmemora la victoria real en la batalla de Villalar.

La Casa del Pópulo: edificio plateresco que albergaba la audiencia civil y las escribanías públicas; hoy, oficina de turismo.

La Fuente de los Leones: manantial natural que la interpretación histórica tradicional postula monumento arqueológico procedente de la antigua ciudad iberorromana de Cástulo, hipótesis que se sustenta en la continuidad histórica deliberadamente mantenida con ocasión del traslado a Baeza de la capitalidad administrativa y episcopal de la desaparecida Cástulo. Según esta interpretación, parejas de felinos y équidos (actuando como surtidores) rodean una figura femenina identificada como Himilce. Más recientemente, se ha propuesto identificar esta fuente como previamente proveniente de un patio del alcázar.

La Antigua Carnicería (s. XVI): trasladada a su emplazamiento actual en los sesenta del s. XX, estaba originalmente apoyada contra la muralla en la antaño populosa plaza intramuros sita al otro lado de la Puerta de Jaén; hoy cumple las funciones de palacio de justicia del Partido judicial de Baeza.

Al este del conjunto anterior, más allá de El Paseo (plaza cuyo lado sur se antepone a la Puerta del Barbudo) encontramos:

La Torre de los Aliatares (o de los Altares): denominada así de acuerdo con la tradición que la hace, en tiempos anteriores a la reconquista, posesión del linaje musulmán de ese mismo nombre. Tiene veinticinco metros de altura, con almenas copiadas del Arco de Villalar y ostenta el reloj público de la ciudad.

Hacia el sureste de la anterior hallamos:

La Puerta de Úbeda: de las principales de la muralla; protegida por su torre albarrana hoy sólo conserva uno de sus arcos, habiendo sido desmantelados los otros dos en el s. XIX.

La actual Plaza de España, situada en el extremo noreste de lo que fue la ciudad amurallada; se conoce como tal la gran plaza edificada sobre la rambla por la que vienen a desaguar las tres colinas sobre las cuales se asienta la urbe. Su fisonomía es porticada, muy castellana. Servía de escenario para los eventos taurinos, fiestas y ajusticiamientos públicos. A partir del s. XIX fue cuando se convirtió en un paseo romántico.

En su lado sur encontramos la mencionada torre de Los Aliatares y La Alhondiga, e inmediatamente tras ella El Pósito. En su cara norte se hallan las Casas Consistoriales Bajas o Balcón del Concejo (s. XVII), lugar desde donde los munícipes presenciaban las corridas de toros celebradas en la plaza. Finalmente, y de este a oeste, también encontramos en las inmediaciones de su lado septentrional:

La Iglesia de la Purísima Concepción: capilla del antiguo hospital homónimo edificada a principios del s. XVII (el hospital desapareció en el s. XX).

Convento de San Francisco y Ruinas de la Capilla de los Benavides: sustituyendo un templo gótico construido en el que era tercer solar ocupado en Baeza por la comunidad franciscana, Diego de Valencia Benavides encargó en 1538 a Andrés de Vandelvira la construcción de la cabecera de un nuevo templo conventual, que habría de albergar su capilla funeraria y que acabó siendo la obra maestra de aquel artista y un hito de la arquitectura renacentista española. Lamentablemente el terremoto de Lisboa quebrantó la bóveda cruzada y la invasión napoleónica acabó de arruinar el templo.
