The National Geographic Society considers the coastal area of southern Peru to be part of the Atacama Desert and includes the deserts south of the Ica Region in Peru. However, other sources consider that the part of the desert in Peru is a different ecosystem, and should properly be named as Pampas de la Joya desert.

I consider street photo one of the most difficult styles of photography as your subject is constantly changing. You are not capturing a bridge or a river or a colorful fall forest. You are capturing moments from the city, an urban scenery, you are capturing expressions of random people while they are not posing for you, people doing their every day thing. So quite often I am trying to focus on something static on the street, something that caught my eye and then wait until the "right people" get into my frame. I think I got lucky on this one, as it felt like these 2 guys were just leaving the area after not finding what they were looking for (404 error, web administrators may get the joke). Κατα τη γνωμη μου η φωτογραφια δρομου ειναι ισως το πιο δυσκολο ειδος φωτογραφίας καθως το θεμα σου αλλαζει συνεχως. Δεν φωτογραφιζεις μια γεφυρα, ενα ποταμι η ενα πολυχρωμο δασος το φθινοπωρο. Στη φωτογραφια δρομου το θεμα ειναι οι στιγμες σε μια πολη, ενα αστικο σκηνικο, οι εκφρασεις τυχαιων ανθρωπων που ομως δεν ποζαρουν για σενα, τυχαιοι ανθρωποι που κανουν καποιες κινησεις ρουτινας. Ετσι συχνα προσπαθω να εστιασω σε κατι στατικο, σε κατι που τραβηξε την προσοχη μου και επειτα να περιμενω μεχρι οι "σωστοι ανθρωποι" να μπουν στο καδρο μου. Νομιζω σταθηκα αρκετα τυχερος εδω αφου οι 2 αυτοι τυποι εμοιαζαν να απομακρυνονται απο την περιοχη αφου δεν βρηκαν αυτο που εψαχναν (σφαλμα 404, οι web admins μαλλον θα πιασουν το αστειο). Η φωτογραφια τραβηχτηκε στην περιοχη Little Five points στην Atlanta της πολιτειας της Georgia.
It breaks from conventional wisdom to consider a bustling city thoroughfare to be a domain for freight diesel locomotives. A 184-ton hunk of steel seems out of place rolling mere feet from the front porch steps of dwellings and mere inches from the front bumper of your automobile, obeying traffic signals and sharing the pavement with confused drivers just trying to make their way across town. But such an atypical situation has been a typical facet of life in Michigan City, IN, since 1908, when the Chicago, South Shore, and South Bend interurban railroad claimed its stake smack-dab in the middle of downtown streets. Michigan City grew with the railroad and they have coexisted quite literally through a shared corridor stretching 1.8 miles down 10th and 11th Streets for the past 114 years. The CSS&SB and its successor NICTD have modernized their transit network over the course of time and freight business for contract operator Chicago South Shore has blossomed, but the iconic street running has remained maintained but largely unchanged since its inception. The buried flangeways in 10th and 11th have endured long after most of their comparable street running tracks across the nation--a signature staple of interurban railroading--were ripped up in the early years of the previous century.
On February 6, 2022, CSS's pair of SD38-2s made a late afternoon departure from the Carroll Street shops and headed west through the streets of Michigan City, sending the echoes of horn blasts reverberating off residential structures as motorists hugged the curbs tightly for cover. A normal Saturday scene perhaps, save for the fact that this occasion was anything but normal, as come Monday the street would be closed, vehicular traffic detoured onto parallel routes, and interurban traffic temporarily suspended through Michigan City in favor of busses. The culprit: capacity improvements and an emphasis on public safety under the guise of a $500 million double-track project. Freight traffic will continue mostly-nocturnal operations as construction phasing plays out over the coming weeks, but 11th Street's nostalgia will be permanently lost as work commences to reconfigure the corridor to host separated two main tracks and one-way road through downtown Michigan City. Safety and efficiency will come undoubtedly, as will the comfort and ease for residents, commuters, and motorists who use this street regularly, but the cost will come at the expense of a historical landmark that harkens back to traditions of a forgotten era in railroading history.
Remarkably, the South Shore Line has defied the odds and greatly outlasted its electric railroad counterparts that essentially all evaporated well over a half-century ago. But for it to continue to thrive as a viable and competitive transit option built for the 21st Century, its signature attraction at the heart of Michigan City must be sacrificed. So while "The Last Interurban" prepares to write the next chapter in its lasting history, we watch as these two SD38s rumble down unadulterated 11th Street for one of the final times and take with them the memories of 114 years into the setting sun.
I did consider colour correcting to reduce the yellow cast but I actually think it makes the photo.

Le château est édifié au 14e siècle et considérablement agrandi et embelli au 15e siècle. Au 17e siècle, de nouveaux communs sont bâtis dans la basse-cour et, au 18e siècle, on ajoute les écuries. A partir de 1736, l’architecte Aujubault aménage, au nord du château, un jardin régulier à compartiments. Racheté par Mr et Mme Dahon, les beaux-parents de l’écrivain belge Maurice Maeterlinck, en 1926, le château est acquis en 1930 par l’avionneur Pierre-Georges Latécoère qui entreprend la restauration du château avec l’architecte blésois Henri Lafargue et l’architecte-paysagiste Albert Laprade. Si Laprade conserve les divisions générales de l’espace des jardins, les compartiments sont résolument Art Déco. Ces jardins sont aujourd’hui restaurés.
Juan Iván Benigar (1883-1950) o "El cacique blanco" o "El sabio que murió sentado". Nacido en las vísperas navideñas de 1883 en Zagreb, capital de Croacia.
Fue considerado un indígena croata defensor de los originarios, es hoy uno de los mayores mitos de la provincia de Neuquén. Luego de llegar a bachiller en 1902, Juan dejó Zagreb para ir a Graz, en Austria, y luego estuvo en Praga estudiando ingeniería civil y más idiomas de los que ya sabía, puesto que a los 25 años dominaba catorce, y ello lo llevó a estudios antropológicos, sociológicos y filosóficos.
En 1908 Benigar abandonó Europa y emprendió el camino a la Argentina cumpliendo el destino al que se sintió llamado con las palabras del texto de un alemán que afirmaba que se extinguirían los nativos de América. Llegó a puerto y casi ni tocó Buenos Aires sino que rápidamente fue a territorio indio desde el que no se fue jamás. Afirmaba que desde el principio se había interesado vivamente por el destino de estos pobres parias (naciones mapuches) dignos de mejor suerte, a quienes nunca abandonó y siempre luchó en su defensa. Lo hizo a través de escritos, de éxodos y de litigios. Se consustanció de tal manera con la cosmovisión Mapuche que se considera que aún sus investigaciones sobre ésta cultura aún hoy no han sido superadas. Fue además un visionario ya que muchas de sus sugerencias y estudios encuentran plena vigencia en nuestros días. Colaboró en los periódicos “La Voz del Territorio” y “Neuquén” dirigidos respectivamente por Martín Etcheluz y la familia Cháneton. Por sus escritos en 1924 fue nombrado miembro de lo que fuera luego la Academia Nacional de Historia de Buenos Aires.
Tras permanecer un poco más de un año en Cipolletti, se dirigió a pie hasta Colonia Catriel (Río Negro). Allí conoció a Eufemia Barraza, Sheypuquin, quien se convirtió en su primera esposa. Benigar tuvo quince hijos, once con Eufemia (fallecida en 1932) y cuatro con su segunda esposa Rosario Peña (fallecida en 1949) a quien conociera en Aluminé (Neuquén). Allí en 1933 creó la industria textil casera “SHEYPUQUIN” en la cual aplicaba el uso de la energía hidráulica, con correas hechas de cuero. Su sueño nunca concretado, fue formar una cooperativa familiar para dar ocupación a cien familias indígenas. Benigar terminó sus días un 14 de enero de 1950, en el valle Poi Pucon próximo a Aluminé (Neuquén). Fuente Wikipedia

(1638). Considerada como la Capilla Sixtina extremeña, la Sacristía del Monasterio de Guadalupe constituye un verdadero museo pictórico con algunas de las mejores obras de Zurbarán.
Según la tradición un pastor encontró una talla de la virgen María en el río Guadalupe a finales del siglo xiii o principios del xiv. Cerca del lugar donde se encontró la imagen se construyó una ermita alrededor de la cual surgió el asentamiento actual con el nombre de Puebla de Santa María de Guadalupe. Desde la construcción del primer santuario Guadalupe se convirtió en el centro de peregrinación más importante de la península ibérica después de Santiago de Compostela, condición que mantiene en la actualidad a través de la peregrinación que llega de toda España por los caminos de Guadalupe. Esto se debe al hecho de que si Santiago es el patrón de España, la virgen de Guadalupe es la patrona de todas las tierras de habla hispana y ostenta el título de reina de las Españas según la tradición católica. El Real Monasterio de Santa María de Guadalupe es considerado como uno de los mayores símbolos de Extremadura y la Virgen de Guadalupe es también patrona de esta región. El municipio cuenta con gran cantidad de monumentos además del monasterio.

It is always good to remember that what we consider old now, back in the day was very modern. Case in point is this part of the church Saint Etienne in Perriers-sur-Andelle. The church itself is medieval, founded in the 11th century, with some architectural details added in the 14th century. But not here. Here we can quite obviously see some later works, this is not medieval (and the church did see substantial work done in the 16th and the 19th century). So at one point this was the modern, up-to-date part of the church when the rest of it was more or less dated and old-fashioned.
From his time working as a distillery tour guide, Brian knows that in order to fully appreciate a fine whisky, one must carefully consider not just its flavour, but its aroma, generally referred to as the nose. A tulip-style glass is ideal for this purpose - the shape channels the aromas upward where they are trapped by the narrow neck. Swirling the glass gently helps to release the aromas and you can get your nose right into the glass and savour the various 'notes' of the whisky, such as fruity, floral, spicy and smoky. Every whisky will have a characteristic nose that is a complex combination of all its various notes.

Snails have a keen sense of smell due to olfactory sense cells concentrated around the mouth and lower tentacles, but olfactory sense cells are also dispersed throughout the remainder of the body surface. Snails are able to find food (and whisky) at a considerable distance without being able to see it.
No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph and at no time was the snail allowed to come into contact with the whisky.
I guess I'll consider myself lucky as the rear DPU units of a westbound UP coal train cleared in time to allow a view of the Alton & Southern 101 transfer job dropping off the east approach to the MacArthur bridge that spans the Mississippi River. But it would have been even luckier if they ran the ALS job on the south track here as that seems to be a coveted rare event.

El Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, considerado el padre de los Emiratos Arabes Unidos (EAU), convirtió un sueño en realidad al construir una mezquita de una belleza incomparable, a pesar de que no pudo verla finalizada. Se empezó a construir en 1998 y se acabó en 2007, tres años después de su muerte.
Al salir de la Gran Sala se encuentra la tumba del Sheikh, donde se recitan versos del Corán las 24 horas del día, los 365 días del año.
Sin límite de presupuesto, el resultado final es una auténtica joya.
Hay quien la compara con el Taj Mahal y no parece descabellado pensar que este monumento le sirvió de inspiración tanto en el color blanco deslumbrante del mármol, símbolo de belleza, paz y grandiosidad, como también en su perfección geométrica o en la decoración con incrustaciones de piedras preciosas: lapislázuli, nácar o amatistas...
Está considerada la estructura de mármol más grande construida por el hombre y a pesar de su uniformidad aparente, se utilizaron 28 tipos diferentes de esta roca caliza.
Aunque su estilo arquitectónico es el tradicional islámico, la mezquita esconde alta tecnología en su diseño y construcción ya que la soportan unos 6000 pilares de acero de 27 metros bajo tierra. La mezquita está construida sobre una plataforma de 9 metros sobre el nivel del suelo.
la deslumbrante blancura del conjunto, con sus 82 cúpulas soportadas por más de 1000 columnas y los cuatro minaretes de 107 metros.
Como es habitual, bajo la cúpula mayor se encuentra la sala de oración. Para acceder a ella debe cruzarse el gran patio de 17.000 metros cuadrados, cubierto con losas de mármol adornadas con incrustaciones de flores de colores y rodeado de galerías con arcos en forma de herradura.
Lo más llamativo en la sala de oración, a primera vista, son las 7 lámparas de cristal, la más grande tiene 10 metros de diámetro y un peso de 8 toneladas. Están fabricadas con cristal de Swarovski, sobre una estructura de plata y cobre y bañados en oro.
Sin embargo, una de sus piezas más valiosas se encuentra sobre el suelo, bajo nuestros pies: la impresionante alfombra persa, la más grande del mundo, elaborada en una sola pieza. Con una superficie de 5627 metros cuadrados, pesa 47 toneladas y está compuesta por más de 2200 millones de nudos.
De una gran belleza y pulcritud, fue elaborada por 1200 mujeres iraníes anónimas que trabajaron durante dos años para acabarla.
Las columnas interiores tienen incrustaciones de nácar y en la alquibla (muro orientado hacia La Meca) la fina caligrafía muestra los 99 nombres de Allah y el mihrab decorado en mosaico dorado.

When building a castle, access to sufficient water is one of the most important points to consider.
The builders of Ryzmburk Castle in Bohemia certainly took this into account. And so they diverted water from a spring directly into the castle. You can see this access point here. I am quite sure that this spring was one of the main reasons for building the castle in exactly this location.
Even after more than 700 years, the water is still flowing. To me, as a layperson, this looks like good planning.
Wenn man eine Burg baut ist der Zugang zu ausreichend Wasser einer der wichtigsten Punkte, die es zu berücksichtigen gilt.
Das haben natürlich auch die Erbauer der Burg Ryzmburk in Böhmen bedacht. Und so haben sie das Wasser einer Quelle direkt in die Burg umgeleitet. Diesen Zugang seht Ihr hier.
Ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass diese Quelle einer der Hauptgründe war, die Burg exakt an dieser Stelle zu bauen.
Auch nach mehr als 700 Jahren fliesst das Wasser noch immer. Das sieht für mich als Laie nach einer guten Planung aus.

Es para disfrutar este pintoresco encanto y sus famosas piedras de arcilla roja .

Considéré comme l'un des plus beaux de France, le grand orgue de la cathédrale d'Amiens est composé de trois claviers (Positif de dos basé sur une Montre de 8', Grand Orgue basé sur une Montre de 16' et un Bourdon de 16', Récit expressif basé sur un Quintaton de 16') et d'un pédalier (basé sur un Bourdon de 32'). Les claviers ont une tessiture de 56 notes et la pédale compte 32 notes.
La tribune du grand orgue est construite chêne, et repose sur de culs-de-lampe.
En 1429, sur l'initiative d'Alphonse Lemire, valet de chambre du roi Charles VI, une certaine somme est réunie grâce à des dons pour qu'un grand orgue soit construit dans l'immense nef de la cathédrale. Cet instrument, achevé en 1431, était tenu pour le plus grand orgue du royaume de France. De cette époque subsistent la tribune, le soubassement du buffet et certains montants supérieurs.
Des traces du vieux buffet gothique sont toujours visible à l'intérieur du meuble.

Comenzó a construirse en piedra en el S.XV, sobre otro anterior en madera del S.VI, que en su época con 32 arcos, era considerado el mayor puente del Reino.
El puente nuevo data de la época de Carlos III.

La catedral sevillana está considerada como la que más campanas tiene de toda España y es que La Giralda cuenta, nada más y nada menos que con 25. Encontramos 24 en el cuerpo de campanas y otra en el cuerpo superior a este que, siendo la más antigua de todas, ha servido de reloj desde 1400. Fue el primer reloj público que tuvo Sevilla y probablemente uno de los más antiguos de España. El reloj original ya no se conserva pero sí su campana. Se colocó ahí al construir la espadaña que sustituyó al yamur de manzanas doradas almohade, que cayó en el terremoto de 1356 y ha tenido históricamente los nombres de San Miguel de las Victorias y San Francisco. Tiene 156 cm de diámetro, pesa 1439 kg y fue fundida por Alonso Domínguez. Al diseñar Hernán Ruiz II el campanario y los cuerpos superiores, mantuvo el reloj y la campana, diseñando un espacio destinado a esta.

Photographer admits prize-winning image was AI-generated
German artist Boris Eldagsen says entry to Sony world photography awards was designed to provoke debate

A photographer is refusing a prestigious award after admitting to being a “cheeky monkey” and generating the prize-winning image using artificial intelligence.
The German artist Boris Eldagsen revealed on his website that he was not accepting the prize for the creative open category, which he won at last week’s Sony world photography awards.
The winning photograph depicted two women from different generations in black and white.
In a statement on his website, Eldagsen, who studied photography and visual arts at the Art Academy of Mainz, conceptual art and intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, and fine art at the Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication in Hyderabad, said he “applied as a cheeky monkey” to find out if competitions would be prepared for AI images to enter. “They are not,” he added.
“We, the photo world, need an open discussion,” said Eldagsen. “A discussion about what we want to consider photography and what not. Is the umbrella of photography large enough to invite AI images to enter – or would this be a mistake?
“With my refusal of the award I hope to speed up this debate.”
He said this was a “historic moment” as it was the first time an AI image had won a prestigious international photography competition, adding: “How many of you knew or suspected that it was AI generated? Something about this doesn’t feel right, does it?
“AI images and photography should not compete with each other in an award like this. They are different entities. AI is not photography. Therefore I will not accept the award.”
Eldagsen suggested donating the prize to a photo festival hosted in Odesa, Ukraine.
The stunt comes at a time of intense debate over the use and implications of AI with some issuing apocalyptic warnings that the technology is on the brink of irreversibly damaging the human experience.
Recent advancements in the use of AI in chatbots, driverless cars, song-writing software and the development of pharmaceuticals has spurred the discussion. Google’s chief executive, Sundar Pichai, said concerns about AI had kept him awake at night and warned the technology can be “very harmful” if incorrectly deployed.
The Guardian has approached Creo, the art events organisers behind the competition, for comment.

Tras el hallazgo los expertos sugieren ahora la posibilidad de diseñar polinizadores artificiales con el objetivo de favorecer la reproducción de las plantas con flor, imprescindible para el mantenimiento de la vida en la Tierra.
La eficiencia de las abejas melíferas recae no sólo en su condición física, sino también en el hecho de que visitan solamente una especie de flor en cada uno de sus viajes, en los que recogen la cantidad suficiente de polen para su propio alimento y también para las necesidades del grupo en el que viven. En un solo día pueden visitar miles de flores de una misma especie, recogiendo el néctar y el polen y esparciendo largo y tendido los granos.
