The Joy of Processing

Thought I'd show a little composite I did for my daughters' acting group performance. As a parent volunteer I do all their photography right now, including promotional, performance and cast photos. Fun way to contribute to their experience.

This visually-intriguing rock is composed of multiple small to medium-sized, subspherical ironstone nodules (= iron oxide rock). They have become cemented together by a crust of the same iron oxide material. This material could also be called mammillary ironstone.

Provenance: modern fluvial gravel bar in Ohio; mammillary ironstone like this supposedly occurs at the Mississippian-Pennsylvanian unconformity in parts of Ohio

Composite practice

Two photos I put together - tree in the foreground plus photo of mountains. I wanted to isolate the tree (lots of complex branches) from its original sky. Used color range selection in the original sky to select and delete it. The sky in this composite is totally fake. Both photos are from stock sites (sxc.hu and commons.wikimedia.org).

Image size width 80 cm x height 53 cm at 300 dpi (31 x 21 inches).

Pixel dimension 9476 x 6317.

A composite image consisting of the following elements: The person, the pentagram on his forehead plus the scar on his neck. Both the right and left shoulder was originally left out of the original stockphoto, so they had to be made from other parts of his sweater. The background image was found on a stockphoto site.

First off, the image of the person was warped a bit to make his facial expression.

The light effects were added: A bright light source simulating a backlight was placed on the background. Then rim lights on both shoulders and on his side of the face and nose were painted on. Finally the main spotlight washing out the details was supplemented. Shadows and dark areas were also done in coordination with the spotlight.

Some retouching of the eyes and skin were done, plus the knitted pattern in the sweater in order to merge the added shoulders with the original.

Finally, the different elements of the image was blended together with a mix of color correction, blurring and also feathering certain areas of the masks.

At the final stage, some selective sharpening on the face, a depth of field-filter on the rest of the image plus film grain reticulation was mixed in.

Composite for photography class

Germany, 1510-60.

The term composite means that the armour was assembled from various pieces (possibly from different workshops/cities/countries), not an original complete suit. When museums assemble a composite armour, they generally try to choose pieces that are alike in style/period/maker.

Historically, a knight might have assembled his armour from available pieces or replaced damaged pieces, so composite armours are "historically accurate" in their own way.

added some clouds to the original. The original was shot in Nebraska at the Crane Migration on the Platte River region in Kearney, Nebraska.

Using an Indiana University composite image, this image shows Ancient Human Habitats, 19,000 deep in the North Pacific.

I have isolated the area North of Hawaii to attempt to show massive ancient human habitats.

The depth of these roads, convergences, geometric figures, King portraits varies from sea level to 19,000 feet deep.

The Egyptians and the Greeks may have referred to it as Mother Earth: Gaia, or Ogygia, Ahh-why-yee, Hawaii.

Ironically, it could be pronounced "Yah-weh" if read from right to left, although it may "just be a coincidence".

This isolated block is approximately 1.5 million square miles in dimensions.

The detailed triangle image is 823 miles North of Honolulu at 0.22 degrees, and is 200 miles wide and 185 miles high, and is best viewed at 250 miles.

This area was previously found, detected, reviewed by many Universities, such as University of Hawaii, University of Oregon, MBARI, Woods Hole Oceanographic, etc.

Ancient Mythology References:

Gaia, Gaea

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_(mythology)

Gaea (pronounced /ˈɡeɪ.ə/ or /ˈɡaɪ.ə/; from Ancient Greek Γαῖα "land" or "earth"; also Gæa, Gaia or Gea, from Koine and Modern Greek Γῆ[1]) is the primal Greek goddess personifying the Earth, the Greek version of "Mother Nature" or the Earth Mother, of which the earliest reference to the term is the Mycenaean Greek ma-ka (transliterated as ma-ga), "Mother Gaia", written in Linear B syllabic script.[2]

Gaia is a primordial deity in the Ancient Greek pantheon and considered a Mother Titan or Great Titan.

Her equivalent in the Roman pantheon was Terra Mater or Tellus. Romans, unlike Greeks, did not consistently distinguish an Earth Titan (Tellus) from a grain goddess Ceres.

Ogygia

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogygia

Ogygia (Greek: Ὠγυγίη or Ὠγυγία; Ogygiē/Ogygia), is an island mentioned in Homer's Odyssey, Book V, as the home of the nymph Calypso, the daughter of the Titan Atlas, also known as Atlantis (Ατλαντίς[1]) in ancient Greek. In Homer's Odyssey Calypso detained Odysseus on Ogygia for Seven years and kept him from returning to his home of Ithaca. Athena complained about Calypso's actions to Zeus, who sent the messenger Hermes to Ogygia to order Calypso to release Odysseus. Hermes is Odysseus' great grandfather from his mother side, through Autolycos. Calypso finally allowed Odysseus to build a small raft and depart the island.
