Starting to catch up. Apologies for not commenting.
These little ones are always in the dark shade. So if I can lure one into the sun, WOO-HOO!
Part of my road trip involved exploring the north coast of California. Most of the north coast is on a "marine terrace", a marine sea that got uplifted and is now FLAT land.
Our first stay for the afternoon was in a beach town called Eureka. Eureka is a "Tsunami Hazard Zone", with wave signs posted every few miles. The beach is almost level with the road - 100 yards from the surf. While I started scouting, my ex-surfer buddy kept saying "Wow. Those are BIG waves" .
They were big. We were unaware there was a NOAA advisory warning people to stay away from the local beaches due to 20 to 24 foot breakers. Instead, my buddy and I are thinking how cool to have the beach all to ourselves! I settled in on a pleasant flock of semipalmated plovers...and after five minutes my buddy says "Woah...That's a huge wave". The birds fly and I'm thinking "Plover flock flight shot - outstanding" - I shoot a few unfocused frames, then look back. Oh $#!+.
I'm running and then the rogue wave hits, and then I'm wet up to my chin...And then the wave wants to return and it wants to take me with it... I fall and I'm holding the 500mm like a soldier holds a rifle, trying to prevent it from getting wet as the wave drags me away. Luckily I grabbed for a piece of driftwood and then my buddy grabs me...
The iPhone in my pants pocket didn't survive. The camera did. Good thing that!
Thanks to the no-hassle Apple Genius Bar, I now have a new fully-restored iPhone for $100 less than the cost of the original. :-)
Major kudos to Canon for the MKIII being advertised as waterproof and actually being so, and major kudos to Apple for making getting a replacement phone SO EASY.

My lovely friend Fiona came down to Hull for a couple of days with her gorgeous spriner spaniel Chester. Awww! I was in doggy heaven all weekend - I absolutely adore dogs!

There are magazines and news sources for the general public, and the same has always been true for the people who operate buses. The Museum of Transport Greater Manchester has an extensive archive collection and documents that is used as the source for this Flickr feed, and we have a very large collection of trade magazines and bulletins dating back to the nineteenth century.
These magazines have always been read by owners and managers of truck and bus companies, and therefore they have always included advertisements for complete vehicles, spare parts such as tyres, ancillary equipment such as washing equipment, and parts that one might specify as part of a vehicle order.
This advert dates from the early 1950s and advertises a hard-wearing material for seating. We will note without further comment that the material's brand name is better known today for a very different impermeable product!

A plethora of pictures for you from this April evening. This New Look purple dress might be a cheapie but it's a winner - it's rapidly becoming a firm favourite of mine!

After our enormous dinner, we also went for a chippy tea on the same day - we certainly ate well! My local chippy is one of the best in Hull - Dundee Fisheries - and we had been planning to go there all glammed up for a laugh for a while. The opportunity finally presented itself, ha ha!
After that, we went into town to Monroe's cocktail bar where we met our friend Alexis. From there we went on to The Star.
Part way through a crazy social night in the Star (our booth was packed with people all night!) Jim, the owner, brought us over a huge cocktail dispenser full of cocktail - for free! He thought it would be good advertising, ha ha!
Of course, I couldn't even help with it because I don't drink. Gemma did her best, and we were giving it away too, but by the time we left there was still about half of it left, LOL!
This was it - the beast that arrived for us coutesy of Jim, the owner of The Star, ha ha!

Following a Flickr mail from a contact early this morning, which rather annoyed me to be fair, this is uploaded to make my stance pretty clear. It's not the best trails shot in the world.
A private mail from someone stating that "Flickr is a two way thing, comments go both ways" etc etc....
Forgive me if this sounds rude, arrogant or whatever, but I just wanted to make it clear....
I will only comment and favourite photos that are interesting to me, that I like, or that I find unusual in a great way, or that are clearly just outstanding photos in the first place. I WILL NOT go out of my way, to comment on photos for the sake of commenting, in the hope to receive a comment back on my shots, as false comments just don't interest me i'm afraid. I'm totally open to criticism on my work, I know I can improve in a lot of ways, and i'm open to honest praise aswell, but fake comments, what is the point? This is the reason I won't comment for comments sake.
Yes, Flickr is a sharing community, and I do look at the majority of my contacts uploads, and comment on what I like, which is surely what it's all about, I take time just about every night to look at the recent uploads, sometimes spending hours on here going through images that fascinate me, images that I aspire to take.
Clearly i'm not going to reveal who the Flickr mail was off, as that's just stupid and looking for trouble.
Sorry for the rant, but this has been annoying me all day at work, I do enjoy Flickr, I love looking at other peoples work for inspiration, but to have a mail telling me it's a two way street is just down right rude.

People are unique, interesting and at times quite fascinating .. caught unawares, frozen in time or caught in the moment of camera-awareness. After taking this photograph and looking back at it i was reminded of something along the lines of Tim Burton. The surroundings especially influenced that thought. Plus this photo was taken near a place called Burley, which is a small village of shops that is themed towards witches and all things spooky :)
So here's an odd little New Forest pony who was blind in one eye, i absolutely loved him. I followed him along with two others into burnt Gorse, which is controlled due to its rapid and dominant growth, this process however, still encourages further growth. I honestly favoured the appearance of the burnt environment to that of the living with the bright yellow flowering, the twisted black branches gave a new and unusual setting to be in. This guy seemed to like the place as much as i did, he was very friendly and let me pet him despite being wild. I love the New Forest, it is literally like my second home as i have practically gone there every single year since i was a very small child.

Now to the picture at hand... this past August I had the wonderful opportunity to come across a bull moose that was feeding on the plants that were growing on the bottom of a small pond... this bull moose paid no attention to me and another photographer that were there as we snapped away like crazy for about 10 minutes while he fed and moved around the pond... he eventually left as more people stopped to see this rare and awesome sight....
