With an impending weekend away in Newcastle looming, it was time to get to the salon and have my hair done.
I had quite a lot taken off - a good 3 inches or so - and I am over the moon with the results! It's now more or less the same length as the wig I used to wear, and I always thought the shoulder length style suited me better than longer.
Also, when it's this length, it's really easy to style. It does that cute curl-up at the ends all by itself - I don't have to do a thing! Result!

Only one week on from our weekend in Newcastle, we were back in Leeds for Leeds First Friday weekend.
While Gemma went out round lots of the venues, I had a quietish one. I stayed in the Cosmo all night as we were able to sit down and chat in there, while the other venues are quite loud which makes it difficult to chat.
There were quite a few new girls at the event for the first time, and it seems they all had a great time which is brilliant for the event.
Hotel room selfies before heading out.

Theme: "A Letter from the Alphabet"
I have two little cousins that love to hear me telling them horror stories. The last time they visited, I invented this story, which I quite liked, so I decided to write it down and make this photo.
It was also really fun taking this shot. We actually went in some woods near midnight with a candle and a girl wrapped in a blanket. People should have thought all kinds of stuff!
Thank you so much for being such a weirdo with me, Giovanna!
---------------------
England, 1863. It was a late winter night. The cold wind blew through the large stone corridors of the Brocklehurst mansion. Not much could be seen, once several of the candles responsible for lightning the place were already dead. The brightest place in the whole house was the west-wing living room, inhabited by two siblings sitting by the fireplace, each one involved by a thick, brown blanket. Annabelle and Jonah were completely by themselves. Even though the family once was very influent and rich in the town, it all ended when their mother mysteriously passed away. Her body was found in the woods surrounding the house, with no apparent wound or signs of struggle. Her health was perfect and some sudden illness was very unlikely. Some would say her soul was taken by the dark spirits of the forest, as told by an old legend a lot of people refused to believe.
Since her death, the Lord Brocklehurst lost all his will to live. The businesses ran by generations in the family slowly decayed to almost inexistent levels. The mansion, once always brilliant and filled with maids, servants and delightful balls for the aristocracy, was now completely abandoned and infested with spiders, rats and dust. Some would say the Lord even lost his savvy. It was common enough to him to depart with no warning, leaving his children behind.
“I wonder when dad will come back this time.” Annabelle said to the air, clearly not paying attention anymore to the book her brother was reading for her. Jonah stopped, looked at the girl for a few seconds and closed the book soundly, making a cloud of dust rise from it.
“Don’t wait up too cheerfully.” he said, standing up and leading himself to the opposite side of the big room to give the book back to an immense bookcase filled with stories and tales, when the sharp scream of a girl made him drop it, as darkness engulfed everything.
“Calm down, Ann! What happened?!” said the tall young man, half-closing his eyes trying to adapt to the murk.
“The fireplace… It… It just went off out of nowhere!” she answered, with little sobs in her voice. The boy then found his way back to her side, making her skip a heartbeat when he hugged her. After calming Annabelle down, Jonah went to the next room and took a few half used candles.
“I’m sure it was just a wind gust.”
“It was not!” she answered, still with a trembling voice. “I was right here, I didn’t feel anything! It just… I think I saw something red in the fire and then it extinguished.” A chill went through her spine.
“Don’t be silly. Here, look.” He pointed to the fireplace. “The firewood just withered. We need some more.”
“But we ran out of it, brother… These were the last ones. It should have endured through the night…”
“Then… I’ll get more in the woods.”
A deep silence took place. Even though the stories were hard to believe, they didn’t enjoyed going in there, especially after their mother incident. But there was no option. They would definitely freeze without any fire.
“You stay here. I’ll be back in a few minutes.” He kissed Annabelle’s forehead, messed her hair, took the lamp and left the room. She heard him getting the axe, opening the huge front door and closing it.
Except for her own breathing and some whispers of the wind, the silence was absolute. She waited there, wrapped in the blanket, staring the nothingness.
(…)
The clock ticked for way too long. Something was definitely wrong. She was really scared, yes, but it scared her even more to lose the only one she had left. The last one who cared for her. Some of the wolves in the woods could have attacked him, even though it wasn’t common for them to come close to the house. She took the blanket, put the candle in a white porcelain saucer and left.
It was a full moon, but the clouds covered it almost completely. The leafless, lifeless trees danced conducted by the wind - a macabre corpse dance. The branches cracking with the movement created the eeriest symphony. Annabelle took a deep breath, swallowed the fear and went down the stairs which leaded to the wood’s entrance. Walking carefully amongst the branches laying in the ground, she started to look for her beloved brother. She couldn’t scream or make too much noise, because that could call the wolves’ attention. So the girl continued going deeper in the forest, with her path lightened by a simple candle, whispering Jonah’s name. She walked and walked with no sign of him. Then, a scream echoed in the woods. Annabelle froze, and so did the wind. It stopped completely, putting an end to the orchestra it leaded. She then realized she was way deeper inside the woods than any sane person would be. The trees were so dense she couldn’t even see the dim moon’s light hiding behind the clouds. All the available light was coming from the candle.
Then, with her ear now left in peace, she began to hear, far away, a gentle low voice calling for her.
“Annabelle…”
The girl ignored at first, but the calling was then repeated, a little louder. She recognized it coming from the southwest and began following it. As she went closer and closer to the source of her brother’s voice, it got louder, although it still was a whisper. Walking a little faster as she thought she would finally rendezvous, a glade revealed itself.
“Anabelle…”
She heard from the other side of it. Walking cautiously, she kept following the voice.
“Annabelle…”
When the girl reached the center, a weird feeling made her stop. She felt someone right behind her. She could feel its presence… Its heat. The hot breath right on her neck.
“ANNABELLE.”
It was no longer her brother’s voice. It was a scratchy, cold and rough voice, the mix of an old man in his deathbed with the growl of a dreadful monster. She screamed and began to run desperately, leaving behind the blanket right where the thing talked to her. The girl didn’t look back; there was no need to see whatever it was that was there. And this way she continued, running as fast as she could, crying and protecting the light – her guide.
After running for what she thought being a few miles, Annabelle found herself in another glade. As the weak light revealed the path in front of her, she saw something. It looked like Jonah lying in the ground. Desperately, she ran to it and when tried to hug it, the girl realized it was just a blanket. Her own blanket. The same one she left exactly there in her first escape. “I had ran in circles… Stupid tricky forest!”, she thought. Then she continued walking, determined to leave that dark hell and ask for help finding Jonah. She walked into miles, feeling devastated and confused, when another glade was found. The same nightmare was repeated. Again, she was in the same place, even though she walked a straight path. Nearly exhausted, she couldn’t give up… Not yet...
She ran.
(…)
For the third time, there she was again. The same glade. Annabelle picked up the blanket, wrapped herself inside it, sat down and started to cry.
“It will be alright…” she tried to comfort herself. “I’ll just wait here until dawn comes… Then I’ll find my way back.” She thought of her brother. Would he be trapped just like she was? Maybe he just couldn’t find his way back. Yes, they would find each other again. They would be together again. They would.
She stayed there waiting for the time pass by. Obviously, she couldn’t sleep – her nerves wouldn’t allow her. So, with a low, faint voice, she began to hum the song her mother used to sing to her in stormy nights. Her heart was calmed. She felt like her mother was there for her.
Suddenly, a bell rang far away, making Annabelle goggle her eyes on its direction. Eleven times that bell was ringed. It was the town’s old clock, telling everyone that the eleventh hour has come.
“Just a few more hours… Everything will be fine.” she thought.
A cold, lonely and singing hour later, the clock once again made its announcement. The girl counted the bangs.
Midnight had come.
Together with the twelfth strike, hundreds of crows flew from the woods in a skyward direction, creating a terribly loud noise that made her hide inside her blanket. Breathing fast, heart pounding in her throat, all she could think about for comfort was her brother’s face. She would find him. All would just become a terrible night dark. She prayed.
When everything became quiet again, she slowly began to uncover her eyes. Lifting the blanket, she discovered a pair of blood colored spheres staring at her. Her heart stopped. A death cold breath invaded the blanket, freezing her spine.
“ANNABELLE!”
Darkness.
To this very day, these woods are haunted. No one dares to enter the place. It is said that every full moon, exactly at midnight, it’s possible to hear a lonely lullaby coming from the woods. If it’s dark enough, a wandering dim candle light, held by the poor Annabelle, can also be seen.
Jonah found his way back into the mansion that night, finding it empty. Nothing had happened to him. He came back in a few minutes, just like he said he would.
The young man and the entire town searched for Annabelle, but she or her body were never found. She is still trapped there, for all eternity, looking for him, aided only by a candle. The clock she hears every hour always tell that the midnight has come. And it will never go away.

Latin name: Himantopus himantopus - Black-Winged Stilt
Taken on our trip to Pensthorpe Nature Reserve in Norfolk. This was one of the species to be found in the special walk in enclosure where a good variety of different birds were to be found. This youngster appeared from inside the reeds.
The black-winged stilt, common stilt, or pied stilt (Himantopus himantopus) is a widely distributed very long-legged wader in the avocet and stilt family (Recurvirostridae). Opinions differ as to whether the birds treated under the scientific name H. himantopus ought to be treated as a single species and if not, how many species to recognize. The scientific name Himantopus comes from the Greek meaning "strap foot" or "thong foot". Most sources today accept 2–4 species.
Adults are 33–36 cm (13–14 in) long. They have long pink legs, a long thin black bill and are blackish above and white below, with a white head and neck with a varying amount of black. Males have a black back, often with greenish gloss. Females' backs have a brown hue, contrasting with the black remiges. In the populations that have the top of the head normally white at least in winter, females tend to have less black on head and neck all year round, while males often have much black, particularly in summer. This difference is not clear-cut, however, and males usually get all-white heads in winter.
Immature birds are grey instead of black and have a markedly sandy hue on the wings, with light feather fringes appearing as a whitish line in flight.
The breeding habitat of all these stilts is marshes, shallow lakes and ponds. Some populations are migratory and move to the ocean coasts in winter; those in warmer regions are generally resident or short-range vagrants. In Europe, the black-winged stilt is a regular spring overshoot vagrant north of its normal range, occasionally remaining to breed in northern European countries. Pairs have successfully bred in Britain in 1987, and after a 27-year hiatus, two instances of successful breeding in Southern England in 2014.
These birds pick up their food from sand or water. They mainly eat insects and crustaceans.
The nest site is a bare spot on the ground near water. These birds often nest in small groups, sometimes with avocets.

April was a very packed month socially! The weekend after Newcastle, Gemma was back in Hull again.
Saturday night we packed a lot in, and tried some new places.
We went to Ambiente tapas restaurant for Spanish food and it was absolutely gorgeous! Definitely doing that again, it was a really nice place and the food was great!
After that we went to Humber Street Social which was a venue we had not tried before. And then we went on to a charity night at The Oak Vaults and had a great time in there - even won two raffle prizes each! :-D

So I've finally uploaded the last of the photos from 2020 and we're into the New Year. And it begins with a mis-step.
This dress didn't suit me at all. Not sure if it's the pattern or the arms, but it looks awful on me so this will be its only appearance on my photostream. However, we learn more from our mistakes than our successes and it's worth experimenting and trying new things from time to time even if it might not work. :-)
I'd like to thank each and every one of you who left a very kind, supportive comment on my last photo, posted to let people know that my oldest daughter passed away early in the early evening of 3rd January 2014. Your thoughtful words are of great comfort.
Life will certainly never be the same without Fiona - she has left a huge hole that can never be filled. I try to take comfort in knowing that she is no longer in constant pain, no longer has to think about the two knee replacements that were to take place before too long, and no longer struggle with everyday things.
Rest in Peace, Fiona.

Blimey, it seems I went a bit camera-mad on this particular evening! And old favourite but a goody, this French Connection bandage dress was one I used to wear almost as often as my signature pink dress!
Comments appreciated as much as faves!
ORIGINS
In 2085 the Orbital Gateway decloaked and appeared from the dark side of the moon. Drop Ships from World #2785 shattered the tranquillity of Earth soon after. The Ministry from Dimension X had arrived to spread their Gospel of Death.
ABOUT THE “DEATH SENTENCE” MECH
The Name "Death Sentence" was thought to have originated from the unlucky units who were sent to fight it. In actual fact the moniker was adopted by the Pilots of the mech division itself.
The mech is comprised of an organic exoskeleton and a Titanium-Ceranium metal alloy base. It has been invigorated by "Technomancy" (technological necromancy).
The mech does not use an atomic fuel core as per human technology, rather it is powered by Soul- Fusion technomancy (The CND Logo has been painted on by support Crew to mock Earth Mech pilots). A Pilots soul will power the mech for up to 1 year, exertion such as combat or self repair rapidly depletes this time frame leaving visible signs of physical degradation. Organic batteries (human sacrifices) can remove the leeching effect temporarily but piloting the mech is effectively a martyrdom. The memories and experiences of every pilot the mech bonds with are absorbed along with its life-force. In this way even "green" recruits are instant combat veterans.
ARMAMENTS
All Mechs are armed with short range shoulder mounted neural toxin shells and Hellfire "Barbecue" Missiles which incapacitate or burn rather than kill instantly. Carapace mounted tear gas and smoke launchers are also standard. The Right arm has fixed "baby monitor" which can pinpoint the atomic signature of any opposing mechs within a five mile radius. The Mechs primary armament and weapon load out, depends on its mission deployment.
This Mech is equipped with a Plexiglass/Kevlar composite shield & Vibro Katana for mech to mech combat.

Taken at the US International Art Festival in Union City a few weeks ago with a tele-zoom lens. I applied soft HDR processing to bring some dynamics into the scene. I added some Gaussian blur to the background to counteract the somewhat fuzzy bokeh caused by the HDR processing.

A slightly melancholy weekend, this one. Leeds Pride is always the pinnacle of my year but of course with the pandemic this year it has been cancelled. However, Jen still had her hotel booked for the weekend, so I decided to drive across there and spend the afternoon in Leeds.
We actually had a really good time despite the cancelled celebrations. And we even ended up in a 'sports bar' playing pool - not very girly at all, ha ha! But great fun, and we'll be doing that again. We're both reasonably good at pool.
Back home after a wonderful day out.

I had a lovely evening out with my old friend Andrew. We went for Greek food at a place I had not tried before (very good it was too!) then on to 80 Days Bierhaus micropub which I discovered a couple of months previously with Bella when she was visiting.

The last of the August photos.
My lovely friend Fiona came down to Hull for a couple of days with her gorgeous spriner spaniel Chester. Awww! I was in doggy heaven all weekend - I absolutely adore dogs!

So this is a build I've had for months now and I think it's come time to post it so I can tear it down and begin anew on an all new Batcave! So for this one it's built on a large grey baseplate, with nine main sections:
Batcomputer: I really loved the setup of the official set, so I basically moved that to the new cave, added more consoles and posted the bat symbol above.
Medical Station: I saw Legoman685 make the X-Ray screen, so all credit should go to him for that beautiful idea. I really loved the chair from Greivous's starfighter set, so i basically just slapped it in there.
Elevator: I really liked the play feature of the official set, so I took the same basic idea and I had to stretch it out to be much taller. It looks really ugly and that's the number one thing I want to improve.
Trophy Room: Simple design, features Bruce's League of Assassins sword, Two-Face's coin, A vile of VENOM, and a kryptonite gem.
BooM Tube: what you see is what you get, helps other heroes and Bat's get around the city, also will lead to the Watchtower.
Equipment Rack: features a rotating wall, one side with baterangs, grappling hook, handcuffs, and bow staff. Alternate side features stand for scuba tank, flippers, and two boomerang baterangs.
Bottom Floor Left: has a latter to get up to the second story, sliding door that will fit all Batmobiles, and a glass case holding the uniform of Jason Todd.
Bottom Floor Right: features the suit display, which works the same way as the equipment rack. The display holds six suits. This will also need to be changed in the new batcave, hopefully fitting 8 suits, maybe even 10.
Batmobile Platform: Basically just a large rotating platform that spins and allows the batmobile to drive in and out.
And that's about it. What do you guys think? What should I add in my second version?
