I was trying to capture the beautiful rose petals during sunset time when my sight was drawn towards a harmless, standstill fly sitting on the rose petal. Light was dim as its winter evening in this side of Globe. I used my high ISO setting (1600) to keep a good enough Shutter Speed (1/160). I could take 2-3 shots, hand-held, before it flew
Some technical details of Fly as an Insect
Flies are insects of the order Diptera (from the Greek di = two, and ptera = wings). Their most obvious distinction from other orders of insects is that a typical fly possesses a pair of flight wings on the mesothorax and a pair of halteres, derived from the hind wings, on the metathorax. (Some species of flies are exceptional in that they are secondarily flightless). The only other order of insects bearing two true, functional wings plus any form of halteres are the Strepsiptera, and in contrast to the flies, the Strepsiptera bear their halteres on the mesothorax and their flight wings on the metathorax.
The Diptera comprise a large order, containing an estimated 240,000 species of mosquitoes, gnats, midges and others, although under half of these (about 120,000 species) have been described. It is one of the major insect orders both in terms of ecological and human (medical and economic) importance. The Diptera, in particular the mosquitoes (Culicidae), are of great importance as disease transmitters, acting as vectors for malaria, dengue, West Nile virus, yellow fever, encephalitis and other infectious diseases.
Diptera derive from Mecoptera or a strictly related group. The first true dipterans known are from the Middle Triassic (around 240 million years ago), and they became widespread during the Middle and Late Triassic

With an impending weekend away in Newcastle looming, it was time to get to the salon and have my hair done.
I had quite a lot taken off - a good 3 inches or so - and I am over the moon with the results! It's now more or less the same length as the wig I used to wear, and I always thought the shoulder length style suited me better than longer.
Also, when it's this length, it's really easy to style. It does that cute curl-up at the ends all by itself - I don't have to do a thing! Result!

Another new eBay dress to try during lockdown.
I haven't looked at these pictures since I took them 3 months ago and looking back on them, I just don't like this dress that much. Nothing wrong with it per se, I just don't think the colour suits me that well, that's all.
I haven't put the dress on since. But you have to experiment with these things - I learn more from what doesn't quite work than what does.

Only one week on from our weekend in Newcastle, we were back in Leeds for Leeds First Friday weekend.
While Gemma went out round lots of the venues, I had a quietish one. I stayed in the Cosmo all night as we were able to sit down and chat in there, while the other venues are quite loud which makes it difficult to chat.
There were quite a few new girls at the event for the first time, and it seems they all had a great time which is brilliant for the event.

I bought a remote! :) I took some self-portraits to test it out and I think I'm happy with it!
I feel like venting so let's begin.
Top 3 Pet Peeves:
1) LIES. Honesty is the number one quality I look for in all people. If you're dishonest, expect me to keep you at bay. If you lie to me, I guarantee it will be a struggle for me to get over and things might never be the same. Take that as a warning. Lies are stupid; just don't do it.
2) Being judged before people get to know me. I don't always make the best first impressions. I can be shy, awkward, and even moody if you catch me at a bad time. As a general rule, I tend to be most outgoing around outgoing people. I can honestly say that I don't dislike anyone. I'll never intentionally do you wrong and I'll try to be the best person I can be.
3) Finding out through a third party that someone was criticizing me behind my back. If you have something to say about me, good or bad, say it to me directly. I'll respect you more that way. It's also less hurtful.
So I realized this doesn't suit my picture at all... haha! I'm happy, just kind of frustrated.

Saturday was a bit of a departure from our usual Saturdays of late, when I have tended to stay around the Cosmo for the evening.
Four of us went up towards the student area of town to a pub called The Fenton to see an improv comedy night, which was absolutely awesome! Such a great evening! It's a monthly even held on the first Saturday of each month, so it lines up with our weekend very well, and I think I'll be a regular there.
After that we headed off to Pryzm nightclub with its light-up dance floor. It's nearly 2 years since I last went there so it was long overdue! And it was a top night in there too - I danced more than I have done in years!

My personal comment: over commercialized, to be avoided if you don't want to be trapped amid busloads of very loud mostly Chinese tourists with big zoom lenses, smartphones and tablets. If you like fake and dress up parties, this is the place to be.
Surrounded by green mountains, Langde Shang Village is situated beside a crystal stream. Several roofed wooden bridges, called "Wind and rain" bridges by the locals, stretches over the stream. Several stone grain mills and mill wheels have been built on both sides of the stream. Ducks can be seen here and there, flapping the wings happily in the water. On the waist of the slope facing the village is a 150-meter-long racecourse and a flat ground, whose area is about 8 mu (mu is a traditional unit of area, equaling to 0.0667 hectare or 1/6 acre). On March 5th of the lunar calendar every year, thousands of young Miao people from the region where the four counties, Leishan, Kaili, Majiang, and Danzhai, have a common boundary, come to the place. They climb the mountains, sing musical dialogues in antiphonal styles, and race horses.
The Langde Shang Village is located at the foot of a mountain. There are five “flower roads” leading to the village. A wood gatehouse, called the "village gate", is built at the eastern, western and northern entrances of the village. Row upon row of wood houses (those propped up by wooden supports with ladders leading up) makes a picturesque scene. The roads and courtyards in the village are paved with cobbles or bluestones. There are a drum ground and a Lusheng (the reed-pipe wind instrument used by Miao, Yao and Dong nationalities in southwestern China) ground, built in the pattern of ancient bronze drum surface. Twelve short tracks, paved with blue-brown cobbles, stretch to twelve directions, symbolizing the twelve rays of lights. A cobble pattern of galloping horse is inlayed at the end of the drum ground and the Lusheng ground.
Visitors to Langde Shang Village have to drink the "block-the-way" wine (a local custom of welcoming the guests) when they arrive. Twelve tables are placed in the middle of the path from the roadside of the highroad to the gate of the villages. Several full-dressed young people will propose a toast to the guests with two bowls of wine, wishing them happy and healthy. At the last table to the village, people will use a big cow horn to hold the wine and propose toast to the guests. So the guests should drink a lot before they enter the village. However, those who are not good at drinking don't have to worry. If they don't want to drink, they can put their hands at the back, bend forward a little and touch the cup with their lip, and say " dousemo" (Miao language, meaning "thank you"). Then they can pass the table. The villagers are very hospitable, but they will never make the guests drink if they can't.
The welcoming ceremony continues when the villagers set off firecrackers, play Mangtong (a kind of local musical instrument), and sing song of toasting the guests. Then the villagers will dress up and lead the guests to the Lusheng ground. The young villagers will have the traditional dances, Lusheng dance, wooden stool dance, wood drum dance, bronze drum dance, and so on. Finally, all the villagers will go the ground and form several circles and dance. They will also invite the guests to join them. After the dancing ceremony, guests can go to the villagers' home to observe the creaking spinning wheels and the weaving machine and enjoy the quiet village life.

I shot this one yesterday in Runcorn, we went out for the day to visit Grandma for the day. There's a little nature reserve nearby called Wigg Island. Nice for a walk when the weather is nice :)

I made this image a few years ago now. I have since sold the flash units that I modified.
The only visible light in this image is coming from the Cannabis. I used 2 UV modified flash units that emit no light on the visible spectrum. The light is a by product of the UV called Fluorescence.
Ultraviolet Induced Visible Fluorescence or UVIVF for short is genre of Photography that is not a common one but was a lot of fun to explore.
I was approached by someone that knew I was doing this and we both agreed that it would be interesting to see the end result.
I am not against this drug. I have used CBD oil for chronic pain recently. It has its place.

Such recognition would allow Bengali to be used in government affairs.When the state of Pakistan was formed in 1947, its two regions, East Pakistan (also called East Bengal) and West Pakistan, were split along cultural, geographical, and linguistic lines. In 1948, the Government of Pakistan ordained Urdu as the sole national language, sparking extensive protests among the Bengali-speaking majority of East Pakistan. Facing rising sectarian tensions and mass discontent with the new law, the government outlawed public meetings and rallies. The students of the University of Dhaka and other political activists defied the law and organised a protest on 21 February 1952. The movement reached its climax when police killed student demonstrators on that day. The deaths provoked widespread civil unrest led by the Awami Muslim League, later renamed the Awami League. After years of conflict, the central government relented and granted official status to the Bengali language in 1956. In 2000,UNESCO declared 21 February International Mother Language Day for the whole world to celebrate[1], in tribute to the Language Movement and the ethno-linguistic rights of people around the world.The Language Movement catalysed the assertion of Bengali national identity in Pakistan, and became a forerunner to Bengali nationalist movements, including the 6-point movement and subsequently the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. In Bangladesh, 21 February is observed as Language Movement Day, a national holiday. The Shaheed Minar monument was constructed near Dhaka Medical College in memory of the movement and its victims
Background
The present nations of Pakistan and Bangladesh were part of undivided India during the British colonial rule. From the mid-19th century, the Urdu language had been promoted as thelingua franca of Indian Muslims by political and religious leaders such as Sir Khwaja Salimullah, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Nawab Viqar-ul-Mulk and Maulvi Abdul Haq.[2][3] Urdu is an Indo-Aryan language of the Indo-Iranian branch, belonging to the Indo-European family of languages. It developed under Persian, Arabic and Turkic influence on apabhramshas (last linguistic stage of the medieval Indian Aryan language Pali-Prakrit)[4] in South Asia during the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire.[5] With its Perso-Arabic script, the language was considered a vital element of the Islamic culture for Indian Muslims; Hindi and the Devanagari script were seen as fundamentals of Hindu culture.[2]While the use of Urdu grew common with Muslims in northern India, the Muslims of Bengal (a province in the eastern part of British Indian sub-continent) primarily used the Bengali language. Bengali is an Eastern Indo-Aryan language that arose from the eastern Middle Indic languages around 1000 CE[6] and developed considerably during the Bengal Renaissance. As early as the late 19th century, social activists such as the Muslim feminist Roquia Sakhawat Hussain were choosing to write in Bengali to reach out to the people and develop it as a modern literary language. Supporters of Bengali opposed Urdu even before the partition of India, when delegates from Bengal rejected the idea of making Urdu the lingua franca of Muslim India in the 1937 Lucknow session of the Muslim League. The Muslim League was a British Indian political party that became the driving force behind the creation of Pakistan as a Muslim state separate from British India.[7]

April was a very packed month socially! The weekend after Newcastle, Gemma was back in Hull again.
Saturday night we packed a lot in, and tried some new places.
We went to Ambiente tapas restaurant for Spanish food and it was absolutely gorgeous! Definitely doing that again, it was a really nice place and the food was great!
After that we went to Humber Street Social which was a venue we had not tried before. And then we went on to a charity night at The Oak Vaults and had a great time in there - even won two raffle prizes each! :-D

The 1970 Sinthesis 2000 Prototype was created by Tom Tjaarda and Peter Giacobbi. Tom Tjaarda the well-known American designer who made Italy his home in 1960 is responsible for the styling of the Sinthesis. He also designed cars for Pininfarina, Ghia and De Tomaso. Peter Giacobbi also spent his entire life in the automotive industry as an engineer and designer. He began his career in Italy where he developed engine components for Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, Ducati and others. After returning to the United States he was hired by DeLorean Motor Cars as Chief Engineer and built the prototype DMC12 sports car.
The significance of the Sinthesis is that it is a "one of a kind" sports car designed and built with American Engineering and Italian Design; hence the Ying/Yang symbol --- two opposites coming together. The two young men designed their own body, chassis, interior, suspension, glass, wiring and hardware. The design features a water cooled 4-cylinder engine located amidships. The only other car built during that period that shared this configuration was the air-cooled Porsche 550 race car.
The chassis is unique and extremely rigid. Unlike any other car at the time, it has a steel back-bone and stressed side rails. Another unique characteristic of the car at the time is that there are no door-sills, which facilitates ingress and egress to the low-slung sports car. Technologically advanced for its time, the Sinthesis was designed with an opening toward the rear of the front hood that distributes hot air from the radiator to the windshield, thereby reducing the need for wipers and defrosters. The Sinthesis was also the first functional car to have factory installed driver and passenger air bags. (Giacobbi - Tjaarda being the factory)

So I've finally uploaded the last of the photos from 2020 and we're into the New Year. And it begins with a mis-step.
This dress didn't suit me at all. Not sure if it's the pattern or the arms, but it looks awful on me so this will be its only appearance on my photostream. However, we learn more from our mistakes than our successes and it's worth experimenting and trying new things from time to time even if it might not work. :-)

A slightly melancholy weekend, this one. Leeds Pride is always the pinnacle of my year but of course with the pandemic this year it has been cancelled. However, Jen still had her hotel booked for the weekend, so I decided to drive across there and spend the afternoon in Leeds.
We actually had a really good time despite the cancelled celebrations. And we even ended up in a 'sports bar' playing pool - not very girly at all, ha ha! But great fun, and we'll be doing that again. We're both reasonably good at pool.
Back home after a wonderful day out.

Nothing says amuuuurica more than a bearded man sitting on his lawn playing with puppies in american flag shorts. It's what this country was founded on.
Met this fine fellow couple days ago at the mushroom festival (see day 253). Asked if he didn't mind getting photographed, and the next day I was at his house for these shots, along with a couple for another project I am working on. He immediately offered me a beer, and brought out 20 little jack russell terriers. (see comments and picture uploaded after this one)

Poor girl. Her Mom, Dad, and Grandpa are all math teachers. Both Grandmas and her Aunt are elementary school teachers. It's in her blood. But I know she'll become who she is meant to be, and have all the support and love in doing so.
Today was "Bring your Daughter to Work" day. She had so much fun and wants to know when she gets to come back. The idea for this photo was from Jenni, thanks Jenni! I like the picture in the comments for her reflection. She is so little sitting behind that big desk!
