My good friend Sarah had the chance to come to Hull for a night and had not been before.
I took her for a little drive around - I took her to see the Humber Bridge (at night) and we had a little wander around the town centre, then went for a couple of drinks at The Star.
It's usually Leeds where I see Sarah so it was a really nice chance to show her around my home town. We did a couple of hours tour round the old town the next day too.
We got on the website gallery too, ha ha!
Nice comments without copied/pasted group icons are appreciated.

I had to go for an appointment in London with the surgeon who will be performing my upcoming surgery.
While I was down there I met up with the wonderful Sarah Fey who took me out on the Monday evening.
We had an amazing time! We went to a basemant bar called the Friendly Society then on for something to eat, then we went to the Soho Theatre and went to see a stand-up comedy show.
I had an amazing time - the best time by far I have ever spent in London!
And the consultation went great too - it's looking like next March for my surgery! :-D

It was so good to be back in Lincoln for a weekend after missing it last year. We love Lincoln, it's such a beautiful city.
Saturday evening was just a fantastic evening! We got glammed up and went out looking for somewhere to eat - more difficult than normal because of booking restrictions. But we found a nice Vietnamese place.
After that we walked up steep hill - it is very very steep! - in our heels! That was a first and it actually wasn't too bad - much more difficult coming down, ha ha! And at the top we met a lovely group of girls.
The we went off to The Scene for the evening - it was lovely to be back there. First time we had heard loud music in a public place since pre-pandemic too so it was almost like the old days, although we did have to stay seated at our table.

I thought my last set of photos was the last from November, but I was very wrong. It's just that I am so far behind, I hadn't even transferred the pictures from my phone to the PC. I really must get more organised!
A bit of a different look - looks very vintage with this faux-velvet dress and the headband. I'm not 100% convinced it works for me, but fun to try!

My first weekend in Milton Keynes since September 2017. Pink Punters has changed a lot since I was last there - the attic bar is now a swanky cocktail bar and it looks great!
It was our good friend Melissa's birthday so we had a meal and a birthday cake presentation in TGI Fridays.
We also helped Helen out for her first real outing in public too. And saw some friends I haven't seen in ages!
And the next day I had Ikea meatballs for the first time and they were delicious!

McCormick short pilot (replaced the original wooden pilot), large "ashcan" headlight (quite different than the cast-aluminum-body Pyle-National headlight it later got), cutouts on the pilot deck riser (later filled in), two-bolt pattern on smokestack (where snowshed exhaiust splitter once was mounted), 12,000 gallon Vanderbilt tender with top walkway extension (originally delivered with a 4-10-2, I believe), no blowdown mufflers yet.... probably 1930s.

Objets d’art – occidental ou non occidental, populaire ou contemporain –, ou produits high tech – robots, machines, etc. – se voient régulièrement attribuer, dans leur utilisation, des capacités d’action insoupçonnées, qui en font des quasi-personnes. Comme l’enfant qui voue une passion à son doudou ou celui qui peste contre son ordinateur ou son mobile en lui reprochant d’être incompétent ou têtu. Comme le chamane qui convoque les esprits à travers une statuette prenant les traits des dieux.
Ce transfert ou cette confusion qui s’opère alors entre l’humain et le non-humain, et la relation particulière et personnalisée qui les lie, dans les cultures les plus variées, est le vaste sujet de cette exposition d’anthropologie. Une incursion par la robotique, via l’œuvre pionnière de Masahiro Mori, permettra de comprendre le rôle de l’anthropomorphisme dans les artefacts les plus divers, et ce qui se joue lorsqu’un robot à l’apparence trop humaine – ou toute autre pièce au réalisme intimidant – croise notre regard, jusqu’à le déstabiliser."

Saturday was a glorious sunny day. We started out with breakfast at Cha Lounge and had a couple of photos near there just near Brewery Wharf.
On the evening we went to Pieminister for tea then on to the Pack Horse, then to Baracoa, then The End and finished up in Smokestack for a drink where we bumped into the lovely Jean.
A cracking evening!

I accompanied a girl on her first time in public. Sue was very nervous but had a good time despite the restrictions still in place. We had a couple of drinks at The Star.
Helping others develop their confidence is something I am always happy to do. I wouldn't be the girl I am today without the kindness and help of others, and I am forever grateful for that.

We had another weekend in Lincoln because we love it so much. Started off really well too - an awesome burger at Huckleberry's foloowed by a night down at The Birdcage pub to see an open mic night. Some brilliant acts on there, we had a great time.

1958. The bridge designed by engineer Pérignon for the forestry is completed. Entirely made of wood, this 87 yards (80 meters) long bridge anticipated the creation of the Lac de Yaté. Previously, loggers crossed a dyke often submerged because of the dam. Since hurricane Erica in March 2003, the bridge is forbidden to all traffic, because it can withstand over 0.8 ton (the car at the end is just parked and used by maintenance workers in the park). The oak-gum (Arillastrum gummiferrum) pillars date from the early 50's. The tamanou (Calophyllum caledonicum, endemic to New Caledonia) apron is maintained by park's officials and the technique is the same they used yesterdays: by hand! The 360 tamanou ties were all replaced in June 2011 by cross-pine from New Zealand. The future of the bridge, beloved to locals, is quite uncertain because it would provide for the installation of accommodation facilities on the peninsula between the White and Blue rivers. For now, the strength of the bridge structure is monitored by the property holdings and Public Works Management.
I tried to recreate the atmosphere of yesteryear by choosing black and white. A brief explanation of each photo is given in first comment.

1958. Le pont conçu par l'ingénieur Pérignon pour les besoins d'exploitation forestière est achevé. Réalisé entièrement en bois, ce pont de 80 mètres de long anticipait la création du lac de Yaté. Auparavant, les coupeurs de bois passaient par une digue souvent submergée à cause du barrage. Depuis le passage du cyclone Erica mars 2003, le pont est interdit à toute circulation, car il ne peut supporter plus de 800 kgs (le véhicule au fond est juste garé et utilisé par les agents d'entretien du parc). Les piliers de chêne-gomme (Arillastrum gummiferrum) datent du début des années 50. Le tablier en tamanou (Calophyllum caledonicum endémique à la Nouvelle Calédonie), est entretenu par les agents du parc et la technique est la même qu'hier : à la main! Les 360 traverses ont été remplacées en totalité en juin 2011 par des traverses en pin de Nouvelle Zélande. L'avenir de ce pont, cher aux yeux des gens du coin, est assez incertain car il serait prévu l'installation de structures d'hébergement sur la presqu'île qui sépare les rivières Blanche et Bleue. Pour l'heure, la solidité de la structure même du pont est surveillée par les directions du patrimoine et de l'équipement.
J'ai essayé de retranscrire l'ambiance de l'époque en choisissant le noir et blanc. Une brève explication est fournie sur chaque photo du premier commentaire.
