The Yea Shire Hall in Yea’s main thoroughfare of High Street was originally a single storey building erected in 1877. The grander double storey Victorian Academic Classical building with a tower that stands on the site today was built in 1894 by architect L. J. Bishop. Its construction is of concrete with cement rendering. Its facilities include a ballroom, a stage, two dressing rooms and a supper room.
The Yea Shire Hall has aesthetic appeal and is of social significance, as it was the headquarters of the shire and council meetings, which were conducted in the building’s supper room. Today, the hall caters for the cultural, amusement, entertainment and recreation needs of the community. Remodelling was undertaken in 1894 and extensions in 1923 when the building’s kitchens were finally sewered. The office accommodation was converted to sewered toilet rooms in 1968.
The hall is typical of the mid Victorian eclectic revival and modification of various stands of European Renaissance architecture that culminated in the Academic Classical style. The building is symmetrical with rounded windows and entrance inspired by Roman or Renaissance architecture. The construction date of 1894 and building’s name appear above the doorway on the pediment. The pedemented portico is inspired by a classical temple front, which may also have inspired the Corinthian topped columns that ornament the front. The façade itself, covered in cement render, has the ground floor as a base and the main floor treated like a piano nobile. Other typical attributes of the Victorian Academic Classical style include the balustrade ornamented parapet, which conceals the roof, and perhaps the building’s most impressive feature, the prominent central tower with its mansard roof. The tower employs classical motifs and garland boiseries and features a working clock.
Yea is a small country town located 109 kilometres (68 miles) north-east of Melbourne in rural Victoria. The first settlers in the district were overlanders from New South Wales, who arrived in 1837. By 1839, settlements and farms dotted the area along the Goulburn River. The town was surveyed and laid out in 1855 and named after Colonel Lacy Walter Yea (1808 – 1855); a British Army colonel killed that year in the Crimean War. Town lots went on sale at Kilmore the following year. Settlement followed and the Post Office opened on 15 January 1858. The town site was initially known to pioneer settlers as the Muddy Creek settlement for the Yea River, called Muddy Creek until 1878. When gold was discovered in the area in 1859 a number of smaller mining settlements came into existence, including Molesworth. Yea expanded into a township under the influx of hopeful prospectors, with the addition of several housing areas, an Anglican church (erected in 1869) and a population of 250 when it formally became a shire in 1873. Yea was promoted as something of a tourist centre in the 1890s with trout being released into King Parrot Creek to attract recreational anglers. A post office was built in 1890, followed by a grandstand and a butter factory (now cheese factory) in 1891. There was a proposal in 1908 to submerge the town under the Trawool Water Scheme but it never went ahead. Today Yea is a popular stopping point for tourists on their way from Melbourne to the Victorian snow fields and Lake Eildon, and is very popular with cyclists who traverse the old railway line, which has since been converted into a cycling trail.

One of many Roman statues which are amazingly life-like in the Capitoline Museums of Rome.
The Capitoline Museums are divided into "Palazzo dei Conservatori" and "Palazzo Nuovo" both in Capitol Square. They were founded by Sixtus IV in 1471, extended by St Pius V and opened to visitors by Clement XII in 1734.
Maryborough buildings and structures not in wharf of Kent Streets.
1. The cemetery was established in 1873. It is noted for its fine mortuary built in 1883 by the architect Willoughby Powell. The section near the northern end was reserved for paupers, Kanakas and non-Christians. Located in Walker Street.
2. The old railway station now not used. It was built in 1882 in timber with a station master’s residence next to it. Lennox St. Look for the World War Two air raid shelter to the south of the old railway station.
3. Opposite the railway station is the Anglican Church. The first two Anglian churches were timber and replaced by this magnificent towered brick church in 1879. The QLD Colonial Architect Francis Stanley designed the church as a private commission. The impressive parish hall was designed by architect P Hawkes in 1921 and faces Adelaide St. That first Anglican Church was erected for £30 in 1852. It was part of the Diocese of Newcastle at that stage. The free standing bell tower was added in 1887 as a memorial to Mrs Aldridge. It is heritage listed.
4. Fred Monsour’s silk warehouse. Another fine building with lots of Art Deco features. Built in 1923. Located at 203 Adelaide St. His cousin’s warehouse store is almost next door. Dated 1908 and marked Joseph Monsour. Monsours came to QLD from Beirut Syria ( at that time) in the 1890s.Fred and Joseph were naturalised in 1921. By the 1920s they had gift stores with jewellery, clocks, handbags, frocks, ladies slippers etc. Fred died in 1950 born 1886.
5. Stellmachs. 209 Adelaide Street is a well-detailed classic revival building erected in 1914 to the design of the prominent Maryborough architect F. H. Faircloth. Constructed for Stellmach's, who were bakers.
6. Kings café next door to Stellmachs at 211 Adelaide St. A superb Art Deco building. King’s Cafe was constructed in 1914 for King Bros, who were connected with the fish and oyster trade. King Bros was formed by Mat King. King’s business was so brisk that the earlier building could not cope, hence the remodelling of it in an art deco design in 1938. King’s cafe operated until 1972.
7. Former Commonwealth bank in neo classical style. At 232 Adelaide St. Note the Ionic columns with volutes.
8. Baddow House. 366 Queen Street but not visible from the road. A grand Georgian Queenslander. Built for the Edward Aldridge was the first white settler in Maryborough in 1848. He opened the Bush Inn and a general store at that time. When the first town lands were sold in 1852 he purchased many. He got the government to build the first courthouse in 1860. He also retired from business in 1860 and lived on his property. The current house was designed by architect Willoughby Powell and built in 1883. Mrs Aldridge died in 1886 and Mr Aldridge died in 1887. Baddow House was later owned by Mr Kinne who had a big store in Kent Street.
8. Watson House. At 25 Churchill St on the corner with John St. A Queenslander with a difference. This house was constructed around 1910 to 1912 for Maryborough dental surgeon Harry Watson and his wife Olive. The octagonal-shaped room and turret was added at a later date.
9. Oonooraba House. At 50 Pallas St. The house was built in 1892 with extensive decorative wood work. It has a garden with some significant trees. It was built for local dignitary James Stafford. The name of the house is a local Aboriginal word. The property covered 6 acres. He planted the Araucaria trees (Norfolk Island pines.)
10. Eskdale House. At 53 Pallas St. The main two storey colonial house was built in 1864. A large water tank was built at that same time. Part of the garden was re-landscaped in 1915 with a glasshouse etc. It is heritage listed with an encircling veranda, French
This is another detail from one of a series of classical figures at the West Grand Boulevard entrance of the Fisher Building. This figure holds a beehive. Bees are the symbol of industriousness. and the Fisher brothers would qualify on that count.
Carved from white Italian Carrara marble, this impressive statue of Hippocrates sits proudly at the end of the Peony Walk in the Forest Glade Gardens.
Hippocrates of Kos, also known as Hippocrates II, was a Greek physician of classical Greece, who is considered to be the Father of Medicine. He founded Hippocratic medicine, and it is thanks to him that we have to this day the Hippocratic Oath.
The Forest Glade Gardens are well established European inspired landscaped gardens of six hectares that are to be found on the Mount Macedon Road in the hill station town of Mount Macedon.
The Forest Glade Gardens are just shy of one hundred years old. The gardens were originally two adjoining properties that comprised orchards and lush grazing paddocks. In 1941 local family the Newtons purchased and extended the property and set about creating one of Mount Macedon's most stunning gardens.
In 1971 the Forest Glade Gardens were acquired by Melbourne property developer Mr. Cyril Stokes who together with his partner Trevor Neil Bell, developed the gardens even further. Cyril was a great collector of European antiques, and his love of European antiquity is reflected in the gardens, particularly in the many classical marble and bronze statues dotted about the grounds.
Unfortunately the Forest Glade Gardens were partly destroyed by the tragic Ash Wednesday bushfires of 1983. However, after many years of hard labour put in by Cyril and Trevor, The Forest Glade Gardens were reborn from the ashes. The gardens are built on a sloping block and consist of a range of terraces all of which offer wonderful vistas. A garden designed to give pleasure all year round, the Forest Glad Gardens contain several heritage listed trees and are made up of smaller themed gardens including; the Italian Garden, the Japanese Garden, the Daffodil Meadow, the Peony Walk, Hydrangea Hill, the Topiary Gardens, the Bluebell Meadow, the Fern Gully and the Laburnum Arch.
In 2011 the property was gifted to a registered charity - The Stokes Collection Limited - with the intention of keeping the Forest Glade Gardens maintained and open to the public.
I spent a delightful Saturday with the Famous Flickr Five+ Group in Mount Macedon, where I have never been before. Now I have, I would very much like to go back to such a picturesque place again.
The Mount Macedon township is located east of the Mount Macedon summit, which is approximately 60 km north-west of Melbourne.
The name of Mount Macedon is apparently derived from Philip II, who ruled Macedon between 359 and 336BC. The mountain was named by Thomas Mitchell, the New South Wales Surveyor General.
Settled in the 1850s by gold miners and timber cutters, the railway arrived at the Mount Macedon township in 1861, providing a vital connection to Melbourne, and sealing the town's future as a 'hill station' resort for wealthy Melburnians escaping the summer heat in the 1870s. With the land deforested, large blocks were sold and beautiful and extensive gardens were planted around the newly built homes. The rich soil and good rainfall also made the area suitable for large orchards and plant nurseries who could send fruit and flowers back to Melbourne. Newspaper owner, David Syme, built a house, "Rosenheim" in 1869. It was acquired in 1886 for Victorian Governors to use as a country retreat, making Mount Macedon an attractive destination for the well heeled of Melbourne society. A primary school was built in Mount Macedon in 1874, and as the decades progressed, hotels, guest houses, shops, a Presbyterian Church and Church of England were built. In 1983, Mount Macedon was devastated by the Ash Wednesday Bush Fires. A large portion of the town was raised, and a number of lives were lost. However, like a phoenix from the ashes, Mount Macedon has risen and rebuilt. Today it is still a popular holiday destination, particularly during spring time when the well established gardens flourish with flowers and in autumn when the exotic trees explode in a riot of reds and yellows.

Recently I felt in love with Pullips!
My very first one is Classical Alice. It was hard to make a choice at first (tere are so many Pullips) but her make up is so detailed and gorgeous and her stock is great that it became obvious she would be my first :-).
There she is with a first customisation with an obitsu body 27cm, new eyechips and wig ! I love their cuteness and the posability is so great and a lot of fun !

Outdoors Nature Ballet Ballerina Woodlands Landscape Model Photography!
First pullip. Expect lots of Alice pictures! She quickly became one if my favorite dolls, and one of my favorite dolls to photograph. I got her from PullipStyle.com with a dent box, as I didn't care for the box, only Alice and her accessories, and I was planning to take her out of packaging from the start so I saved a couple of dollars there(even though it took me 5 minutes to find such dent that I hardly think of it as one. Such a non-problem being taken into consideration by the retailer really shows the high quality of service from PullipStyle).
Over-all review of Alice: She's mine hands off! Kidding aside lovely, and looks a lot like the drawings of Alice in Through The Looking-Glass, with a bit of pimped up attributes here and there making her a one of a kind variation. The wig has a good scent to it, so it won't get a foul odor on the clothing and accessories. It has no bald spots and you can't see the seams of the wig unless you push the hair over. It is a nice thin(dimensions matter!), polyester I believe, hair, with quite minute frizzing. Almost none, but making the hair look more natural. Her curls are not stiff, and incredibly soft. The company(Groove) used a very very high quality spray, that can't be noticed practically at all when touching the hair, to help keep the curls in their designated design. The curls are easily fixed with only moist fingers. Great doll, but very delicate. I've never been more careful with a doll than Alice.
