Entering a concert venue at a church, I noticed this conehead clinging to a wall. Since it did not have a ticket, I removed it for a photo session at home and released it later.
Hook-faced Conehead - Pyrgocorypha uncinata (female, body length 35 mm--cone to base of ovipositor)
Adults of this species overwinter and breed in spring. Males are always brown, but females can be either green or brown.

One of the finalists in the Grades 1-3 category: a harpist performing Hadyn's Andante (from the Surprise Symphony) and Charlotte in spring by Fiona Clifton-Wells.
This year's Avison Ensemble Young Musicians' Awards 2016 Finals were held on Sunday 14 February 2016 at the Literary and Philosophical Society, Newcastle and in the presence of the Mayor of Gateshead Councillor Alex Geddes.
The Awards assessors heard twenty-two finalists for the three categories of Grades 1-3, 4 - 6 and 7 and above. This year's honorary assessor was Bill Lloyd, Creative Programmer and Director of Cedars Hall at Wells Cathedral School.
The Awards were set up in 2006 to encourage young musical talent across the North East Region. The entrants to the Awards receive tuition and guidance, as well as important encouragement to continue their musical education. Everyone taking part in this event is given the same expert advice and assessments. The finalists are also assessed on their talents for live performance.

The Avison Ensemble is the outstanding period instrument orchestra based in Newcastle upon Tyne, which plays and popularises the music of Charles Avison (1709-1770) and other English classical composers of the Baroque period, such as Garth, Arne and Herschel. The Ensemble also performs Purcell, Handel, Vivaldi, Corelli, Geminiani, Pergolesi, Teleman, Rameau, Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.
This is another stack of images. This time I chose to shoot it at ISO 3200 and stacked 27 images together. There is no post noise removal. I am very impressed. This trumped the long exposure at ISO 400 where I was getting overexposure in the building and not enough in the roof. Using High ISO and lots of stacks resulted in this very clean image.
I combined all of these using photoshop and median filters to stack the images. I'm way happier with this image over my harbour image.
Kathakali ( കഥകളി) is a highly stylised classical Indian dance-drama noted for its attractive make-up of characters, their elaborate costumes, detailed gestures and well-defined body movements presented in tune with the anchor playback music and complementary percussion. It originated in the country's southern state of Kerala during the 16th century AD, approximately between 1555 and 1605, and has been updated over the years with improved looks, refined gestures and added themes besides more ornate singing and precise drumming.
This is a church on Largo Chiado in Lisbon - Igreja Da Nossa Senhora Da Encarnação. It's a relatively simple building but robust in scale; the steps and balustrade being the primary embellishment.

Here's a build I've been waiting to photograph for ages! It's a 'classical' steampunk city diorama, with an open back and full interior. I also lit it up using Lightailing lights, which you can see here.
This is the bookshop, the sand green and red building to the right. It looks quite cosy lit up!
The school closed in June, 1966 and the building, a brownstone built in 1891, became headquarters for the Worcester School Administration. It was replaced by Doherty Memorial High School and the members of the first graduating class of Doherty, of which I am a member, received a tour of the "old school" as part of our 50th reunion activities on 7 October, 2017.
One of many Roman statues which are amazingly life-like in the Capitoline Museums of Rome.
The Capitoline Museums are divided into "Palazzo dei Conservatori" and "Palazzo Nuovo" both in Capitol Square. They were founded by Sixtus IV in 1471, extended by St Pius V and opened to visitors by Clement XII in 1734.
The Egyptian Museum in Cairo contains the World's greatest collection of Ancient Egyptian antiquities, covering all periods of Egypt's rich history from the Pre-Dynastic, Old, Middle & New Kingdoms all the way to the Greco-Roman era.
The star exhibit has for the best part of a century been the treasure's of Tutankhamun's tomb (discovered in 1922) which occupy two whole galleries on the upper floor. However this arrangement will soon change as the entire Tutankhamun collection (along with several other important pieces) will be transferred to the new Grand Egyptian Museum currently being prepared in Giza. A few pieces (that I recalled from our previous visit in 1995) had already been moved, and by now doubtless others will have followed, with plans for a partial opening of the new museum with its purpose-designed Tutankhamun galleries scheduled for late 2018.
