During my 3 day stay at Elbe sandstone mountains, I was out every morning for sunrise, and the mood was different every day. This one is my favourite of the series, the classical view of Bastei stone bridge at sunrise.
The Reichstag building is home to Germany’s Parliament, the Bundestag. The classically pedimented and columned building was built in the 1890s, seriously damaged by fire in 1933, and restored to host the parliament of the newly reunified Germany in the 1990s. The Reichstag is now the second most visited attraction in Germany, not least because of the huge glass dome that was erected on the roof as a gesture to the original 1894 cupola, giving an impressive view over the city, especially at night. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is a Corinthan capital - though I found it in Alicante, Spain.

I wasn't happy with my previous website and kept looking for a new theme for quite some time. Now, the new version is up and running - hope you enjoy it!
** From Fountains Abbey it is only a short walk along the river to the Studley Royal water gardens . The gardens were designed by John Aislabie in the early seventeenth century, they are a fine example of a Georgian water gardens
The Temple of Piety seen in the centre of the image is one of the many neo-classical buildings in Studley Royal.
a bit more background
In the early 18th-century John Aislabie had great plans to impress visitors to his Yorkshire estate and so turned the wild and wooded valley of the river Skell into one of England’s most spectacular Georgian water gardens.
John Aislabie inherited the Studley Royal estate in 1693. He was a socially and politically ambitious man and became Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1718. Disaster struck his career in 1720 due to his part in the South Sea Bubble financial scandal and he was expelled from Parliament. It was then that John returned to Yorkshire and devoted himself to creating this ground-breaking garden. Inspired by the work of the great French landscape gardeners, the two gifted amateurs created the Water Garden with its formal, geometric design and extraordinary vistas; including the much photographed Temple of Piety. You can also find classical statues, follies and garden buildings carefully positioned within the landscape to discover and enjoy.
Amazingly the garden you see today is little changed from the one that would have impressed Aislabie’s visitors 200 years ago.

The Parthenon (/ˈpɑːrθəˌnɒn, -nən/; Ancient Greek: Παρθενών; Greek: Παρθενώνας, Parthenónas) is a former temple, on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron. Construction began in 447 BC when the Athenian Empire was at the peak of its power. It was completed in 438 BC although decoration of the building continued until 432 BC. It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece, generally considered the zenith of the Doric order. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of Greek art. The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece, Athenian democracy and Western civilization, and one of the world's greatest cultural monuments. To the Athenians who built it, the Parthenon and other Periclean monuments of the Acropolis, were seen fundamentally as a celebration of Hellenic victory over the Persian invaders and as a thanksgiving to the gods for that victory. The Greek Ministry of Culture is currently carrying out a program of selective restoration and reconstruction to ensure the stability of the partially ruined structure. Classically trained in 'Classical Guitar' I haven't played for a few years, but, I did the other day for the first time in a long time, It was lovely to sit and run through some music. Sadly there's never enough time to do everything... so, after playing I used the last of the Summer Sun to bring you this image, have a fabulous Friday to some amazing, talented and wonderful Flickr Friends ~ Debbie :)
The Fitzwilliam Museum on Trumpington Street, Cambridge, opened its doors to the public in 1848. The architecture of this building itself is a kind of appropriation of Greek and Roman antiquity - almost as if the British Empire was its legitimate successor civilisation. The museum is holding collections of exquisite quality, and the exhibits from Ancient Greece and Cyprus, Rome and Egypt are indeed superb. I must admit that classical antiquity, in the midst of which Christianity originated, is still the yardstick against which I measure our own attempts at being civilised. Fuji X-E2.
This tiny acorn is about a half-inch tall. I managed to get it to lean on its tip, and got the light just right.
