Another colour variation of the stunning Welly Mercedes-Benz G-Class. This vehicle was once almost as utilitarian as our own Defender but over the years has become an uber expensive machine so its quite surprising that a lot of toy makers don't make their own licensed versions though of course our Chinese friends have no qualms about making their own knock off versions! Welly have yet again produced a top notch pocket money 1/64 model with some seriously good detailing and a super accurate casting which looks particularly macho in this black finish. This was one of many Welly models I bought back in 2015 from a Bulgarian Ebayer. Mint and boxed.
Bringing some much needed class to the HTI range is their little Mercedes-Benz SL which they have been producing for a few years now in a variety of colours in a preciously small range of licensed diecasts. Their recent emphasis on overtly generic models makes this little Merc look even more desirable, its not perfect and certainly not in the same league as a Majorette but its a very valiant effort from a small U.K. company nicely cast and well detailed. Part of a series of five vehicle sets bought from Sainsbury's back in August 2016. Mint and boxed.
I could get away with getting on this train now, but it was pushing it a bit in 1984 to be on a Portsmouth Harbour - Newcastle SAGA charter. 37 271 was the engine, which worked from New St to Derby, where it failed moments after this photo was taken.

When first introduced Class 180's were allocated to duties from Paddington. Here 180102 stands at Paddington with a service to Exeter 18th Feb 2007 shortly before their withdrawal by First Great Western.
As Units go Class 313's are never going to win any prizes for looks. But they have been around for nearly 40 years being introduced in 1976 on the Great Northern and lines into Moorgate via Finsbury Park. It would appear their time is nearly up with talk of replacements in the offing.

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Fourth Class Cadet Andre Jones-Butler receives his new cadet shoulder boards after completing the academy's summer training program during a ceremony at the academy's Washington Parade Field here Monday, Aug. 16, 2010.
The ceremony included a change in the regimental command of the corps of cadets.
The ceremony marks the formal acceptance of new cadets into the corps after completing seven weeks of basic military training known as "swab summer."
Additionally, the event marks the official transfer of responsibility and authority from the outgoing summer regimental command staff to the first class cadets, who lead the corps through the first semester.

These units are not glamorous in any way whatsoever, and aren't the most comfortable to travel in, but they have been part of the south London railway scene for almost 40 years. As their service life comes to an end I've decided to make a small photographic record of the everyday scene soon to change.
