Preserved Brush Type 2 Class 31 A1A-A1A diesel locomotive 31438 ready to depart Ongar Station with the 2E23 13:55 service to North Weald on the heritage Epping Ongar Railway (EOR) in Essex (UK).
31438 was built by Brush Traction at the Falcon Works Loughborough and entered service as British Railways D5557 on October 15th 1959.
31438 was withdrawn from mainline service by British Rail in September 1995.
Absolutely adore Class 31's. Cut my young trainspotting teeth on these in this British Rail blue livery at Chelmsford station on the Great Eastern Main Line in the late 1970s.

General Electric Powerhaul Freightliner 'Fugly Betty' Class 70 locomotive 70007 heads the daily 10:28 Freightliner 4M88 Felixstowe South- Crewe Basford Hall intermodal southbound through Chelmsford on the Great Eastern Main Line in Essex (UK).
The caged signal device on the left is called a 'banner repeater' and these are positioned when the driver cannot see a forthcoming colour aspect signal. In this case it's for the down signal L717 at the other end of this platform (the up line) during bi-directional workings. The banner aspect is 'on' (the following signal is on stop/danger). When a banner repeater is 'off' (the following signal is on green/proceed) the display bar will be at 45 degrees.

Class 111 differed from the generally similar Class 101/2 by being fitted with Rolls-Royce C6NFLH engines of 180 hp. On the final batch of cars a four character headcode box was originally fitted above the front cab windows, with the destination indicator on top of a reduced height centre window. This 2 car set carries MetroTrain PTE branding.

A class 150 catches the late afternoon sun as it leaves Bristol TM with a westbound service. Sunday 11th December 2005.
A First Capital Connect Class 319 dual voltage EMU 319376 at St.Pancras domestic station in London (UK)
I thought these ran on the old Thameslink Bedford-Brighton via Blackfriars services for FCC so i'm a bit confused as to why this is at St. Pancras station... I have some knowledge of railways (ahem) but I don't even know if St. Pancras is on the North South Thameslink anymore and FCC's operations seem very confusing even to me so could anyone help me here? lol ;-)
Nice shot of the whole train by fellow enthusiast Dave and posted here with kind permission.
Obviously now an Non boilered loco as shown by the crudely painted NB under the number 46017 as on Station Pilot duties at Manchester Victoria on 30th November 1983.

In the summer of 1993, the Chiltern Line modernisation was nearly complete and most class 115 dmus were withdrawn - these vehicles are seen disused outside Marylebone depot. The tracks in the foreground were newly built through the site of the cab road and ramp.
The 'Peaks' consisted of classes 44,45 & 46 which were all similar in appearance and were introduced fairly early (1960's) as part of BR's modernisation plan. Most had been withdrawn by the early 1980's.
31281 just arrived at Derby with 1602 from Ipswich on 26 May 1987, the first day of loco hauled substitution for a sprinter on this working. The stock was a fine rake of 8 mark Is and 31281 took them over Stoke Summit without dropping below 60 mph, a very good performance.
This is a standard Farish class 20 renumbered and weathered to produce a unique model for the layout.
GM Class 66/0 3,200 hp Co-Co No.66 089 of EWS at Stratford on a Dollands Moor - Dagenham Transfesa Ford parts "Blue Train", 7/08.
These were examples the class instructor brought for us to view. Here was the class description:
"Learn how to easily and cheaply produce small tokens, jewelry and dress accessories the way it was done in the Middle Ages. Students will learn about the use of pewter tokens, badges and trinkets in the 14th and 15th centuries, and will have the opportunity to produce a small piece of their own, carving a soapstone mold and casting it themselves. Instructors will provide soapstone for a mold, metal for casting, all tools, dust masks and a handout of period examples."
British Rail Class 142 'Pacer' 2 car Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU), 142096 as operated by Northern Rail at Darlington Station in County Durham (UK).
Class 142's have been in service since 1985/7 and are due for withdrawal by 2020.
The Class 142 Pacer units with their atrocious noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) and general ambience levels do nothing to enhance the image of the railways in this area in my opinion.
Darlington Station is a Grade II* listed building which opened on July 1st 1887 but of course there has been a railway in the town since 1825.
BREL/ABB (York) & Metro-Cammell (Birmingham) Class 465/0 "Networker" 750v dc 3rd rail 4-car emu No.465 034 of Southeastern at Brixton on a Victoria - Orpington service, 12/07.

East Midland Train's Class 158 158866 (57866 + 52866) was still in basic Alpha Line colours but with EMT branding when pictured on the 10-53 to Norwich on Platform 2 at Chesterfield on June 6th 2009.

Greater Anglia Class 156 'Super Sprinter' 2 car Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) 156402 departing Norwich Station with the 17:42 to Cromer and Sheringham.
This recently overhauled and refurbished unit is surprisingly spacious and comfortable.
This was our train back down the Bittern Line from Sheringham to Norwich which arrive some 15 minutes beforehand. ;-)
