British Rail Class 90 25kV Bo-Bo electric locomotive 90010 heads southbound working the 1P05 06:00 (07:50 29L) Abellio Greater Anglia Norwich- London Liverpool Street service train at a grim Chelmsford Station on the Great Eastern Main Line in Essex (UK).
90010 was built at British Rail Crewe Works and entered service on October 25th 1988.
The caged signal device to the left of the train is called a 'banner repeater' and these are positioned when the driver cannot see a forthcoming colour aspect signal. In this case it's for the down signal L717 at the other end of the platform out of sight (the up line) during bi-directional workings.
