After trying to do this challenge I have decided my town is souless. I drove through the industrial estate thinking surely there would be graffiti there but no. At one point I was assured that a certain location had fantastic art, only to find myself stood on a nudist beach armed with a dolly and a camera. So after a little research showed that Swale council is proud to maintain it's 98% graffiti free record, Ada (not me because I'm not that naughty) is proud to contribute to the 2% that Swale council can't find ;)
My neighborhood bookstore has covered an entire storefront window with these printouts of banned or challenged books. I'm shocked and saddened at the books that people want to ban others from reading. To Kill a Mockingbird, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Slaughterhouse-Five, The Origin of Species, Naked Lunch, The Handmaid's Tale, Native Son, The House of the Spirits, The Color Purple, Lord of the Flies, James and the Giant Peach, A Wrinkle in Time, A Light in the Attic, A Clockwork Orange, the whole Harry Potter series, I Know why the Caged Bird Sings, Brave New World, Bridge to Terabithia, Of Mice and Men, The Grapes of Wrath, The Bell Jar, The Bluest Eye, The Catcher in the Rye. I can't imagine a world without books that make you think.

Create a portrait that expresses isolation in circumstances that are not isolated.

I really struggled with this challenge and I don't quite know why because its one I really looked forward too and had a few ideas for. I seem to have lost my iPhone photo mojo as nothing I tried seemed to work. This is the best of a bad bunch and the only shot that made it past the finish line to flickr. I need to sort my head out and then maybe I'll revisit this again.

This was my entry into TotusMel's "Tatting is Not a Lost Art: The Challenge." (totusmel.etsy.com has more information about the contest.) The design was developed around a two-inch-wide medallion of intricate needle tatting creating by TotusMel for the challenge, which is featured prominently on the front of the hat. The ecru color of the medallion inspired this design in ivory, tan and dark brown, and I was going for a sort of antiqued sepia-tone look.
The hat is made from a 7-inch-diameter (including the brim) felt form for a turned-down brim style of mini top hat. I covered the form, and it is sewn entirely by hand, in a dark brown fabric with a design of tiny stars and even tinier dots.
The hat band is made from a dark brown satin ribbon with a wide-weave texture onto which I sewed two strips of ivory eyelet lace. On the front of the hat is a feather pad in rich dark brown, with the medallion sewn at center. Behind the medallion is a spray of eyelash feathers in champagne, with small iridescent beads on some of the stems.
At the center of the medallion is a clockwork adornment: a watch crystal into which I hand-set watch gears and cogs into resin.
The full birdcage veil is made from vintage Russian veiling that I acquired from a 60-year-old millinery store in New York that just closed its doors this year, so I doubt any more of this veiling exists anywhere. The diamond-net veiling is dark brown with light tan chenille dots. It was hand sewn into pleats to give fullness around the face and gathered into a double-bow at the back to give a nice amount of poof. The veil is held on with a hook and eye and is detatchable. On the inside, the hat is sewn to a hair comb and there are also elastic loops for bobby pin attachment.
Shot for the APG no chimping challenge. Backgroung exposure meter in camera. Model metered via handheld flashmeter. Flash was set to aprox 300WS and the light mdifiers were a 7" reflector, a 20degree grid , and gelled with two cuts of CTO.
A month into my back surgery I am learning once again to see with different eyes and a different lens. Not being able to wander far from home has not only been healing but has also led me to look beyond my own visionary comforts.
challenge #4 was album cover. both the band name and the album name were randomly generated, thats why they're so stupid.

Starting an event at what is typically the hottest time of a summer day, 3 p.m., may have impacted participation Aug. 31 in the inaugural Area I Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers’ Spirit Challenge.
However, it certainly didn’t affect the enthusiasm shown by the 21 male and 2 female competitors or the spectators who made their way to Stewart Field on Camp Casey during the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Labor Day Festival.
At first glance the course appeared to be fairly tame.
“The course looked easy,” said Staff Sgt. Jason Knight, FMWR entertainment and events coordinator. “But factor in the single elimination and the rounds a competitor must make, then it becomes challenging.”
The obstacles and course covered the ballpark infield and used 50 yards of the adjacent access road as the start/finish track area for the event.
Taking the top spots were Sgt. Joe "Barefoot" Kaenel of B Battery, 6th Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment and family member Kendra Cox.
“I had a great time competing,” said Cox. “Everyone was having a good time making it a fun atmosphere to be in. Area I BOSS has really grown in the last few years, now offering so many activities for the Soldiers and even family members.”
Cox and her husband Cpt. Timothy Cox are accustomed to hauling away Area I Sports’ hardware. And, this event certainly can lay claim to having one of the grandest trophies in the region.
“The traveling trophy will promote healthy competition,” said Knight. “Competitors can take pride in their personal achievement but it allows them to share the honor with their unit building esprit de corps .”
The trophy will be up for grabs once again at Camp Stanley’s Fall Fest Oct. 19 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

My 2004 Acura TSX parked next to a 1970 Dodge Challenger.
On my way to a happy hour at a local bar, I was stalking empty parking spots when I saw this Challenger parked away from the main cluster of cars. Having just seen Grindhouse, where it features prominently, and being a car fan, I wanted to take a few pictures, so I parked next to it and made sure that my Batmobile can be found in the shot.
Point-and-shoot, indeed.
