I need some decently sized Adeptus Mechanicus symbols for a terrain project I'm working on. The problem? No one makes the damn things any more. So, the only solution is to make my own.
I'm building the base model out of balsa wood and other stuff I have lying around the place, then I'll take a mould off it and make as many as I need! Theoretically :)

we'd intended to leave early in the morning, but had to check in with the Navy first, since they control Pearl Harbor -- when Tim called them to let them know we were planning to sail out, they said, "OK, when will you be back?" Tim informed them that we would not be returning -- and they immediately said, "oh no, you can't do that -- you need a permit to leave permenantly."
BUT we had an ace up our sleeve -- Siderno belongs to the brother of the former Admiral of Pearl Harbor, who only retired a few years ago -- so it was just a question of finding the right person to name-drop with. Still, it took us something like three hours of calls and etc. before "Admiral Vitale's brother's boat would like to leave!" had any resonance -- but once we got the right person, we got clearance about two minutes later.

Thought I'd play around some more with my Vivitar 285HV, got this pretty funky setup going. Since this is a rather large house-plant I setup the 285HV on the floor and pointed it straight up, the lower plant leaves managed to filter the light by the time it got the higher leaves.
I'd recommend the Cactus v4 triggers if anyone is looking for some wireless flash triggers, they've worked flawlessly for me so far (get some new batteries though, I've heard they're a bit dodgy with the supplied batteries).
Nothing special really, just thought the pattern of light and shadow seemed to create something pleasing to the eye.
From March 17 through March 19, 2016, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, MD hosted a three-day bronze casting workshop in its boatyard.
Participants joined nationally renowned sculpture artist and Shepherd University professor Christian Benefiel to learn the intricacies of casting bronze, including creating molds, working the sand and furnace, and pouring the molten metal. Participants took home a working knowledge of casting metal along with their own creation.

Detail of carved section. The wonderful thing about cuttlebone is the grain that you get in the casting process. You can enhance this by using a really soft, light brush, to brush away any dust from the carving process.
