One of the experiments I tried a few weeks ago, using sheet dental wax. This one was a piece of wax with enamel powder on it.

I went to the casting pier in Washington Park to get some much-needed fly casting practice.
The rod I was using was one my grandfather gave me--a beautiful old Heddon bamboo rod from the early '50s.
I have all these casting shots of people looking straight down the barrel. Holding numbers in front of them, hoping that they get selected for whatever assignment it is you are working on. This time I tried some off camera looks. Usually you know right away if they are right or not for the part. Casting is brutal, both for me and for them, after about 40 faces, everyone starts to look the same to me.
In order for a Wysong Rebuild to be made the orginal castings of each machine must not be cracked or significantly damaged. Here you can see a small chip in the casting. This particular chip will not affect the new machine, but we always want to inspect the machine for such areas to make sure they will not effect the performance.

A few lizard pictures from Africa. All my early research work was on the biology of high elevation pregnancy in lizards so they are near and dear to my heart. My colleague and friend of many years, Prof. Hannes van Wyk took me to the top of Table Mt and out to the Cape of Good Hope during my visit to his lab and home in late September.
This individual (Agama atra) was found at the top of Table Mt basking in the early morning light - it didn't have much time as the clouds came in after just a few hours.

Fun but difficult days. Difficult in the sense that you have to make quick choices amongst sometimes hundreds of people any number of whom could do the job. In the end you make the best calls you can.
Since this is a hair shoot, I have only so much say. I can determine who works well with the camera and put in my pleas, but in the end it comes down to the models' hair and what the artists can work with.
We made three solid calls...and I got my favorite model.

In the meantime it was disassembling much of the show from the weekend (since Amanda Palmer is shooting something for Current TV at SMASHlabs tomorrow) and prepping for the Brewery Artwalk this weekend. Doing an oilgraph performance on Sunday at 3PM and still have no idea what I'm going to do...
Thankfully days are only required of you one at a time....
Another shot from Monday evening down at Garswood Old Road. Walking between fields I noticed the sun just poking through the tree, and liked how the light crept through illuminating the road and verge so fired off a couple of shots ... good job the road is hardly used, after being stood in the middle of it for 5 minuites.
