A slow shutter and bubbles make interesting streams

I like some of these better than from the other day ... I had it on the sports setting and was shooting from right next to the aperture that streamed the bubbles.

A woman was making plenty of these huge bubbles on the beach.

Shooting bubbles has really been a good photographic learning experience for me. It has taught me to accept what is presented to me, rather than being too caught up with my pre-envisioned shot. Usually when I'm shooting a subject I have a very clear picture in my head of what I'm trying to achieve. And I sometimes even get close to the shot that I wanted, more or less.

However with bubbles I rarely get the shot that I was trying for. In this case there was water dripping off the roof from snow melt. When the bubbles would drift through the drips sometimes they would pop, and sometimes the drips would go right through, either way I figured it might be a cool capture. Well, needless to say I didn't get anything even remotely cool related to water drops and bubbles. But as soon as this one came off the wand I thought, "holy crap, those colors!" so I was just smashing the shutter button, hoping to get a shot before it exploded.

I wish I understood the dynamics of bubble colors better, I'd like to get more like this, because this was pretty much just dumb luck. This was the only bubble that day with colors like this.

Bubble fun on the South Bank of London

Sat in the garden with a bottle of Aspall's 2012 Imperial Cyder.....and one thing leads to another....as it does.

I had the kids all day today. Just after lunch I was feeling lethargic, so I decided to go out back. I saw a little magic bubble tube and decided that would wake me up. We started with small bubbles and then I had each of the boys take turns blowing bubbles.

I realized fairly quickly why people invented the bubble blowing machines as I started to get light headed. So we got creative. I started by cutting a snapple bottle in half and dipping the smooth (smaller) opening in the solution. With little effort I could blow larger bubbles and with more effort I could swing my arm and make some bubbles.

That led me to look for larger apertures… I spotted an old clorox household wipes container. That aperture is between 4 and 5 inches. So I lopped off the back and tried it. Like magic, we were making bubbles larger than the boys heads. They loved it.

The reflections and colors on those large spheres were awesome, so I ran inside and grabbed my camera. Aperture priority with ISO at 200 and we caught some sweet images.

Notice the small mosquito just left of the bubble in this shot. Incredible that it is in focus (mostly)

Commission Simply Bubble Boom ♥

Bubbles! I have become obsessed with trying to achieve a satisfying image of a bubble. So sad! I now have dozens of bubbles of all different sizes and colours and reflections. It is a lot of fun and frustration as you never know where the bubbles will blow.
