A fantasy adventure where Lord of the Rings sort of meets Game of Thrones. The Snow Guardian is just too cool to be left out.

And yes I am double dipping for Nerdvemeber and Brickscalibur, Frozen wilds category.

I'm really happy about this LEGO creation and I also managed to add a couple of NPUs. The dragon was inspired by the horse battle helmet and i manage to add in some lightsaber and a sausage. I am quite happy also about the tree made with rifle and gun.

When reading the "Tails from the Meadow" category, I thought, why not make an anthropomorphic entry for the Adventuring Party.

I still can’t fathom why Atreyu would be stupid enough to drag his horse Artax into the Swamps of Sadness. But like most kids of my generation, this scene left me emotionally scarred.

My 5th and final submission for Brickscalibur (category "perspective matters").

Final entry for Brickscalibur. Another fun year and really wish I would have had time to get a few more entries in. Oh well, there´s always next year :)

Took some inspiration from Eero when designing the character, always a treat to browse through his stuff.

"You're lucky my employer wants you alive."

This is my "figbarf" entry for the Adventuring Party category in Brickscalibur. I know this isn't exactly your ordinary minifigs, but this is my interpretation on a minifig party of wizards & warlocks. The theme here is fantasy characters with magic powers. They all have a relic staff that gives them enhanced abilities. From left to right:

Lich Ward - A powerful undead sorcerer who guards the gates to the underworld.

Spider Queen – She is ferocious, alluring and terrifying. She has dwelled in the deep caves of the underworld for centuries, maybe even millennia?

Pyromancer - Her mischievous temper is almost as dangerous as her scorching flames. You will sorely regret if you get in her way.

Forest Druid – The elves are the guardians of the forest and the animals. They move silently on hidden paths and are nigh impossible to spot.

Frost Mage - Proud protector of the tundra. She keeps her people safe with barriers of icy rocks and freezing winds.

I will post individual images of the characters over the next days, starting today with the Pyromancer.

---------------------------

We decided to get ourselves a puppy this year. So now I have even less time over for LEGO. I've only had a few measly hours build time per week since September. Anyways, I had a great time building these characters. It was fun to figure out a diverse cast of magic-wielding characters. Lesson learned: Fiddling with capes, strings and illegal connections can be very frustrating! I don't think I will be doing it again any time soon 😄

@[https://www.flickr.com/photos/188485803@N06/] – Full disclosure. I stole some ideas from your boot design for the Lich.

Synopsis:

After decades of war between the mighty Centaur and cunning Goblins, a reluctant peace had been reached through the marriage of the eldest Prince of King Goldhoof and eldest daughter of the ruling Sour-Fang clan. When an accident left the Centaur King suddenly missing, it thrusts the young couple onto the throne. Tensions build as schemes are plotted - some from outside the capital and some from within. Who is friend and who is foe? And if the current power structure fails, will a new race rise to the throne of Centauria?

~~~
I've never done a figbarf of any kind so this was a fun little exercise in mental world building and looking at what interesting parts I could steal from other minifigs.
Here is my entry for the « RogueOlympics 2025 » Round 4: « Trash »
Titre: A Pig’s feast
101 parts
How to represent trash without falling into the cliché of a simple bin? An idea sprouted: what if I went back in time, to an era when bins didn’t exist yet? The Middle Ages stood out as obvious, with its streets littered with filth and its unscrupulous inhabitants pouring their sewage out of the windows. This scene captures a moment of this filthy reality, where rats and pigs share a feast of debris.
Since my beginnings at Brickscalibur 2023, I have now made 20 Mocs in exactly 101 pieces and this is the first in my favorite medieval universe!
Like what you're seeing? You can win this MOC in this year’s Brickscalibur! Consider entering the Perspective Matters category and this might just be yours! Will you join us?
This one is a tribute to my former mentor Jordan – this ranger with his red panda companion is a DnD character that he used to play that later was turned into a piece of concept art by my talented collague Wes Talbot. I've been wanting to build this one for a while now and now I had the opportunity!
-----
No sooner had peace arrived in the country than bad news was quickly sent from the city gate. And bad news spreads through the world at the speed of light, which is why everyone in the country soon knew: the king was dead. War would break out again. But what the citizens didn't hear was the good news, because it was sent out slowly, like viscous syrup: the young king's wife had had a daughter a few days after his abdication and together they would rule the country until the daughter grew up.
But the landed nobility had already gathered troops and the fight for the throne began...
The fourth round of this year’s RogueOlympics over on RogueBricks required to find 'balance'.
When I saw the theme for this round, the first thing that came to mind was doing a take on Yin and Yang. Unfortunately the 101 brick limit proved to be too challenging for the required geometry. The sun and the curved branch are what survived from the initial idea – and boy, was it a struggle making it all work! The title is of course inspired by the Brickscalibur category of the same name.
The RogueOlympics require you to stick to 101 elements or less so this little scene was built with a total of 100 bricks.
Three more rounds to go! Feel free to join in on the fun!
We've once again reached the new year, so it's time to look back at what I've done this year. It's gone by so quickly, hasn't it?
As always, I've tagged a bunch of builders who have inspired me throughout this last year.
I started the year off by participating in the annual Iron Forge, placing in the top 8 as I faced off against the one and only ForlornEmpire. It was a true honor to compete against Eli, and I absolutley loved to see him compete in IB again just earlier this month. I'm hoping to compete in IF again in 2023, and I can't wait to see who else manages to compete!
After IF, I began experimenting with a new color scheme, untilizing old purple, one of my favorite LEGO colors. I ended up with this Bard's Cottage, in which I tried out a bunch of new geometric techniques. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on it along the way!
In June, I began working with my collab team from last year (KitKat1414, mbricks52, and Dan The Fan) on a new series of builds for the Summer Joust. We created four builds focusing on an elderly gnome who created a magnificent feast for his woodland neighbors. We ended up winning the Exotic Feast collab category this year, which was super exciting!
After I began building for the collab, I travelled to Chicago to attend my first convention, Brickworld Chicago. I had a blast displaying with RebelLug, participating in the Simon/Markus games, putting together a bunch of Si-MOCs's models, and so much more. It was awesome to meet so many builders there! I'm looking forward to attending next June, I can't wait to see what new memories we can make together!
Although I haven't posted anything recently, I've still been building, slowly. Hopefully Brickscalibur and Iron Forge can get me back into the swing of things!
Thank you all for such a wonderful year.
- Francis
The armoury and the command room of the castle of Embervale - my entry for the "Interior Architect" category of Brickscalibur.
And with this trophy, this year's Brickscalibur comes to an end. This is the trophy for the "Digitalibur" category and was inspired by this artwork by Erke Lee.
All the results are now available for you on the website – head on over and see all the winners!
Thanks again for following along and partaking and making Brickscalibur such a fun contest to run!
"Sometimes a quiet rustling of the leaves spells doom for those who wander the Mystic Forest without the care or respect it is due. A few of the warrior mice of Ardeth within the Mystic Forest have braved death to mount the most posionous creatures of the realm, the poison dart frog, to guard its borders. These brave little ones are not to be dismissed as they are highly skilled archers who tip their arrow heads in the poison of their amphibious rides. Just one shot from these tiny assassins is guarunteed death so tread through the forests very carefully..."
I created a 3rd build for the digital category of Brickscalibur. I started building this at a much larger scale but then opted for a smaller but fun build. Hope you enjoy!
This was created using Bricklink Studio, Cinema 4D and Octane renderer. All made possible with @greyscalegorilla Plugins and @pugetsystems machine.
My entry for the 2021 Brickscalibur - Interior architect category.
My last submission in the dying hours of Brickscalibur. I managed to finish my build for the Dwarf tales-category!
“The dwarven miners of the moonstone-mountains presented a mighty gift. A chest of their precious stones were given to the elven emissary outside the eastern gate.“
Medieval times was not only knights in shining armor, it was also the everyday hustle in a small village market. Built for Brickscalibur "Medieval Micro" and CCC21 "Medieval Village"
I had some inspiration to make a Japanese folding screen with cherry blossoms on it, and to make the scene I added a tea ceremony and small potted bonsai tree.
In the 13th century, when the Kamakura shogunate ruled Japan, tea and the luxuries associated with it became a kind of status symbol among the warrior class.
My magical minifigures entry for Brickscalibur.
Entry for Brickscalibur in the capturing character category. Finally got to use my fog-machine again, that´s always fun:)
Their legend shall never die!!
In the first round of the tournament for the legendary blade "Brickscalibur", the knight Hagen of Westrheinsburg faces off against Rangolf the Axeman. Their duel takes place at the mysterious slime pit by the old castle ruins above dragon's forest.
This is the first of hopefully many upcoming smaller and bigger MOC's accompanying the running "Brickscalibur"-contest, some of them may enter fitting categories.
Since I've always been a huge fan of the "Soul Calibur" fighting game series, I wanted to do something similar in LEGO and, well "Brickscalibur" seemed to be a decent price to fight for:-)
Lord Anders chanted. Chamberlain Finnigan had already sunken to the floor of the hunting lodge, his wine spilt all over the floor. Sir Woofsalot could hardly resist the smell from his cozy place at the fireplace. "Ah yes, hunting time is nye", Anders thought before emptying his cup.
My entry for the Interior Architect category of Brickscalibur 2021 as well as for the Nine Realms winter contest, both hosted by RogueBricks LUG.
Built for the Brickscalibur Contest.
I started to work on my MOC for Brickscalibur "The Frozen Wilds" category.
This moc was built for this year’s Brickscalibur Contest for the „Frozen wilds“ category. This brave warrior is taking a brake from hunting and fighting outside in the desert of ice and is getting comfortable in his shelter. Since this was my first time building a bigger sized figure like this I took some inspiration from other builds like the ones by Eero Okkonen. Hope you like it!
Our hero's journey to take a piece of the eternal flame back to his village takes him across a stone bridge over a large rushing stream.
I'm entering this MOC in the "Capturing Character" category of Brickscalibur 2024.
My primarily purpose for this MOC was to work with the bridge design which I played with a little bit a couple of years ago and finally decided to revisit. It was definitely the most frustrating part of the MOC to design with so many different angles and offsets. The stream is uses up nearly all of my trans-clear 1x1 and 1x2 bricks and plates. The tree was a new design that I wanted to experiment with. I had a lot of fun working on the rockwork, stairs, and riverbank.
I built this mostly for myself but partway through the building process I decided it would also qualify for Brickscalibur and is my sole entry to the contest this year.
My entry for the "Monarchic Minifigures" category of Brickscalibur 2021 : Queen Shellethnir of the Dark Elves and her relatives.
My entry for the 2024 Brickscalibur in the "Capturing Character" category.
After heavy snowfall, it's time for Harald to warm up the house.
Like what you're seeing? You can win this MOC in this year’s Brickscalibur! Consider entering the Adventuring Party category and this might just be yours! Will you join us?
When we settled on a Dungeons & Dragons inspired category, the trophy character we needed for it was quite obvious. It's a less interesting motif than for example the dwarf but I still tried to have fun with it. Modulex dice for the win!
Built for the 'Fantastic Feasts and Where to find them' category of Brickscalibur.
A preliminary version of this was entered into a contest held during my local LUG's November 2023 online meeting. The theme was 'Tree'. This won first place by a few points.
C&C always welcome, cya!
Winter is coming – and so is Brickscalibur! A week and this year’s contest will kick off – and you are cordially invited!
Much like the last three years there’ll be a range of custom-built trophies up for grabs – and this dwarf will be one of them. A little tease, and something to hopefully get you all excited to enter! Categories will be unveiled November 1st!
Check out the website and join our dedicated discord to have some castle fun in the coming months!
PS: The Brickscalibur Grants are available until October 31st. If you have a smaller collection this might be for you – all the information is on the website!
One last build this morning for the Brickscalibur category "Frozen Wilds".
When I held the birch trunks in my hand I thought of Ben, because I saw them in one of his mocs for the first time. That's why I want to dedicate this MOC to the strong fighter Ben, who is unfortunately no longer with us.
This is an entry for the Trading Places category of Brickscalibur and the Old but Gold category of the current Guilds of Historica challenge. It is a revamp of the candlemaker’s shop I built back in 2014. It features a full interior and uses the floating cobblestone technique we have previouslyshared a tutorial on.
Glorfindel and Eryl continued on their journey after stopping at the Wayfarer’s Den, eventually coming to Hradheim. There Glorfindel was able to visit his old friend, Kenan, who owns the candle shop Wax and Wick. It sits in the shopping district of Hradheim which is always bustling with folks going about various errands or hawking their wares. Some sweet treats purchased from a baker’s stall nearby were just the thing to provide energy for another day’s travel.
This monk was paid to pray for the knight's soul who was bound to break a few commandments on the battle field. Beguiled, the knight is lead off to hell by a demon and its flames are reaching out to welcome him. Inevitably, all his gold can buy is a fancy tomb in a church; a church that became fabulously wealthy by selling prayers to professional killers.
