Awhile back I was thinking about what I might like to display alongside the Wasp Wing Table Lamp I built last summer, and the idea came to me to build hard cover books with Art Nouveau inspired cover art. The idea was also inspired by the paperback novel covers that Shannon Sproule has built.
These are the first three of them, and I am still working on one more.
Help the daring Pigrates, led by Captain Por K. Chop to rescue their crew member from a grisly fate at the hands of the Imperial Drones, led by Govedrone Stash! The Imperial outpost features a working meat grinder, accessible walls, and a removable roof. The island also features a hidden treasure inside the rocks near the dock. Comes with 7 minifigures and 933 pieces.
This is my entry for pi-RATS & BUG-aneers run by Bricknerd, and I had a lot of fun with the concept, although I would've liked to spend more time doing a more rocky island. All parts are used in existing colors.

Woohoo! I've been wanting one for a long time, but never had the funds to get any. Special thanks to Brickstuff and Bricknerd for this awesome gift! Now what do I light first...?
One of my entries for the Nerdvember contest on Bricknerd. Actually, it's just something I came up with while experimenting with my other entry. The theme of the contest is 80's and this is more of a 70's build, but the rules did say that we can build anything we want as long as it's nerdy.
NERDvember is finally here!
That's right you Nerdly building maniacs, NERDvember is here! Sure Halloween is fun, and everyone loves the Holidays, but November is quickly becoming our favorite month of the year. That's the month you crazy talented builders all over the world create some amazing MOCs inspired by BrickNerd's mascot Nerdly. We have some awesome sponsors this year giving out some super sweet prizes.
With Star Wars The Force Awakens so close, and us being such nerds, we thought we'd put an emphasis on MOCs from the Star Wars universe this year. Of course, if you have any ideas on how you'd elaborate on Nerdly, go right ahead, it doesn't have to be Star Wars related.

Kairos; The Overseer. The deity of time. A being whose sole purpose is to make beings of other worlds interact. To create small pocket universes that house copied species and persons from other worlds into his own. He starts by creating a standard world filled with lush green environments, then gazing upon a lists of planets, star systems, universe, choosing what he deems to be the most interesting. If he finds a person of interest or a species, he copies that being from that exact moment to prevent altering timelines. He creates an exact copy, without the copy realizing it, and puts them on his planet. Dozens, hundreds, thousands, he keeps adding until the planet can no longer sustain itself or he gets bored with his progress. If the fate of the world becomes the latter, he descends down to a lower plain of existence to personally exterminate what he had created with is massive hammers. The hammers are used to create his worlds and are used for their destruction, as well.
His personality is a patient one. He takes his time searching through worlds to see what can make his own more interesting. Like a chef rummaging his cupboards for the right spice or ingredient. When the selected being is copied, they perceive the copy as an otherworldly event that knocks them out, to then be awaken in the new world, without question. Kairos chose those who would be friendly at first, then adds conflict to his world to watch it crumbles. His goal is to study interactions of other beings, and report back to his commander, Lady Void. Kairos is seen as more-or-less an outcast among his kind. He acts like a god for the powers he possesses and gives him an ego that is unfitting for his race. Due to his dimension-hopping, he is hard to pinpoint, making his actions under the radar and dangerous to Lady Void. The Migrator is currently in pursuit of this being, and will be put to death once found.

Wasn't originally planning on doing one of these, but since everyone else has...
2014 was a great year! I started off the year by participating in the tourney, in which I placed 3rd. Over the year, I got much more involved in LOM and developed my skills and building style a lot, as you can see from comparing the pictures at the top right to those on the bottom left.
Most faved photos on flickr:
The Blue Shield Inn
The Black Hammer Inn
LOM RC: Preview
Most liked creations on mocpages:
LOM UC: Trouble at the Inn (the Black Hammer Inn)
LOM: A Battle at Sea
LOM: Pursuit
Over the year, I've had a number of accomplishments - I've passed 100 likes on mocpages 3 (soon to be 4) times, I've gotten the most popular moc in the LOM group, I got MOTD once (with A Battle at Sea), I won 2 LOM challenges, I got 3rd place in the tourney (and my guild won)...
I also got blogged by TBB 2 times, by Bricknerd once, and by numerous other blogs.
Overall, it was definitely a great year and I'm looking forward to the tourney next year (tomorow :P)!

A strange pirate captain called Pioultry. This guy was done with dark red minifig parts, can you guess which ones they are ?
You've probably heard it, or not, but BrickNerd is doing a pirate-themed contest. A lot of amazing prizes and you can even win the legendary Rolli mouse! Full contest rules can be found in the dedicated flickr group here.
My entry for the Festival of Mundanity, hosted by BrickNerd and The Lego Car Blog!
Fiat Multipla is probably one of the most atrocious cars ever made, It is ugly and mundane at the same time.
I made it in 7wide'ish and actually had fun building it.

The EB3 type electric slug of the Prussian state railroad in LEGO.
The EB3 was delivered about a year after his two older cousins EB1 and 2 in 1915 and included quite a few modifications and improvements: a pantograph and additional switch box for semi-autonomous operation, a larger air intake for better cooling, a simplified hood without the "hump" for the cooling fan, and a oil-circuit breaker, all mounted on a stretched frame. Unfortunately, no pictures exist of it, just a couple of drawings based on descriptions by contemporary witnesses.
My model is unpowered an relies on a control car to push it around, but the headlights are fully functional.
For more details on the concept behind the 1914 Prussian demonstrator trains, see here. During the testing phase, the EB3 ran both at the center of the train as a helper, and as leading engine replacing one of his cousins.

I know they said it wasn't a Star Wars contest, but I couldn't help myself!
With the tragic loss of Alex Trebek late in 2020 I felt I needed to do something meaningful as a tribute to the man and his legacy of knowledge, service, and entertainment. My wife and I watch Jeopardy every day so the show and Alex have become a fixture in our lives. The most appropriate idea, and the obvious one for me, was to build a Lego MOC!

Nothing boosts troop morale like a slice of cake! Towing her field kitchen behind an APC loaded with goodies, Suzy Squirrel heads to the Pet Auxiliary Force's forward camp. Help Suzy set up her field kitchen and bring Heartlake one coffee break closer to victory over Fabuland!
Suzy has quite a gathering today:
-- Betsy Bunny, Heartlake's first female rabbit pilot
-- Toby Turtle of the Heartlake Army Corps of Engineers
-- Harriet Hedgehog of signals intelligence
-- Carlo Cat, whose real identity we've been forbidden to disclose
Inspired by D-Town Cracka's Friends vs. Fabuland category in the 2013 Military Build Competition.
This is my ninth build from the road, using the travel LEGO kit in my suitcase. I liked the APC from the previous build and wanted to use it again. Again I wanted a very playable set with moving parts and things to interact with. But I thought the previous build was too cluttered, and wanted this one to be more accessible -- more like a real LEGO set. Although getting the trailer the shape I wanted turned out to be plenty complicated for me :)
Big thanks to Tommy for featuring this on BrickNerd. This entry placed fourth in the 2014 Lego Annual Military Build Competition.
I know Tommy isn't much of a Transformers nerd but I am. So here I present Nerdlyus Prime. My entry for Bricknerd's Next Level Nerdly Competition.
When I read about the contest the words “insane transforming capability” jumped at me and I knew what I would do. Neardly is mostly a red box with glas windows in front. Not so far from a red flat nose truck.
I didn't do any detailed plan on paper this time. I just started from the original nerdly instruction and modified it as I thought necessary. I mean, how hard could it be to make a G1 Optimus? :)
For those interested I can tell that Nerdlyus Prime differs somewhat from G1 Optimus Prime.
First of all the head was made to look nerdy. You be the judge on how it turned out.
An early problem was that Nerdly's glasses stick out so mush so I made a different shoulder transformation (180° instead of 90°) and it worked because I didn't use any smokestacks.
I left the front wheels at the arms. I think I have seen that solution before but I have also seen fan art with the wheels on the arms.
Like my Optimus the fuel tanks become the upper legs. The legs also rotates individually rather than the whole hip (but the original didn't rotate at all). This also separate the legs a little. (I use a similar trick on my Optimus)
What if...? Good ol' uncle Owen was actually a total badass and he had kicked the living crap out of those Storm Troopers back on Tatooine?
Yeah, I know, hard to believe, and trust me, aunt Beru can't quite wrap her head around it either... but if his uncle had grown a pair, Luke may have never left..
It's some sort of butterfly effect, except that in this instance the concept relies on using a heavy minigun.

Built for Imperial March over on BrickNerd, category "Rebuild the Galaxy".
I wanted to build something with the dots cube the moment I saw BrickNerd's contest, so here it is - a Mars speeder (because I don't like speeders at all). Sheep on Mars are a bit different than the ones we have on Earth, so the shepherds need to use more sophisticated equipment.
Nerdvember continues here at BrickNerd, and you now have just over a week to enter our comic-themed building competition! You could win a rare event-exclusive LEGO set from Comic-Con or Star Wars Celebration or even have your scene turned into a custom, hand-drawn comic book cover. So what are you waiting for!?

This is my newest LEGO creation, Clutch Power.
Rays of color and energy burst out from a raised minifigure hand, celebrating boundless creativity and power through diversity. The build has around 6,250 pieces and uses every color of quarter-circle tile that exists (except for metallic).
“Clutch Power” is a further exploration of the stacked LEGO mosaic technique I developed in “Rainbow Heart” from 2021, attempting more natural color blending. The technique uses quarter-circle tiles placed on top of a second grayscale mosaic underlayer to increase the resolution of a 1x1 stud. This better represents organic shapes and allows for more detail in a smaller mosaic than would be needed to achieve the same effect using only 1x1 studs.
One of my latest builds is a model of a Denver and Rio Grande Western 01400-series steel caboose. This may seem a bit outside my typical New England prototype area and that's because it is a gift for Bricknerd as part of the Railyard Telegraph Game, to go with his incredible "Queen of the Rio Grande" SD40. That particular build and others of his inspired me as I came into the hobby, so I wanted to build something to go with it. (Also to make sure he couldn't ever tear it apart! :-D )
The caboose is 7-wide, which was a challenge, and features a bunch of SNOT in the cupola, but otherwise is mostly hollow. This was on purpose in case it's ever desired to add an interior. I was also able to take advantage of multiple new parts, such as the 2x3 tiles (26603), 1x3 jumpers (34103), and the Technic pin with pin hole (15100). The trucks also feature roller bearings that actually roll! The stickers are from OKBrickWorks, who did an amazing job especially with matching the Bright Light Orange for the windows. The color scheme was certainly a fun obstacle, since I don't often build in either BLO or Light Bluish Grey and there's a limited number of parts that come in the former.
Now that it has cleared customs this build is at home in Germany!
The logo and mascot for the wonderful community blog BrickNerd.com is a stylized red 2 x 2 brick wearing glasses named Nerdly. Contributors tend to have their own customized versions of it to represent themselves. This is mine, because I'm very excited to say I've joined BrickNerd as a contributor! In fact, my first article went up today. It's about part mold variations over time, and techniques that can be achieved with different generations of those parts. I've got a ton of ideas going forward, and I'm excited to share with and learn from the BrickNerd team!
Architeuthis Pirata commonly known as "Pirate Squid, Terror of the Seven Seas". Captain Kraken and his crew of Mollusc Marauders are not passing up any opportunity to pillage and plunder. Build in a little under two month for the BrickNerd “pi-RATS & BUG-aneers” contest. Based on the frame of the Silent Mary, the whole bow/head section can lift up to show-off the kraken's fearsome mouth. I'd love to add more rigging but did run out of time and string. The sails are original lego, dyed with black fabric dye.
