Some additional photos of my entry in the "BrickNerd Pimp My Nerdly Contest".

As most of you probably have noticed, there has been a downward trend of the quantity of my creations for the past few years, but hopefully the quality makes up for it. Happy New Year, everyone!

Kairos; The Overseer. The deity of time. A being whose sole purpose is to make beings of other worlds interact. To create small pocket universes that house copied species and persons from other worlds into his own. He starts by creating a standard world filled with lush green environments, then gazing upon a lists of planets, star systems, universe, choosing what he deems to be the most interesting. If he finds a person of interest or a species, he copies that being from that exact moment to prevent altering timelines. He creates an exact copy, without the copy realizing it, and puts them on his planet. Dozens, hundreds, thousands, he keeps adding until the planet can no longer sustain itself or he gets bored with his progress. If the fate of the world becomes the latter, he descends down to a lower plain of existence to personally exterminate what he had created with is massive hammers. The hammers are used to create his worlds and are used for their destruction, as well.

His personality is a patient one. He takes his time searching through worlds to see what can make his own more interesting. Like a chef rummaging his cupboards for the right spice or ingredient. When the selected being is copied, they perceive the copy as an otherworldly event that knocks them out, to then be awaken in the new world, without question. Kairos chose those who would be friendly at first, then adds conflict to his world to watch it crumbles. His goal is to study interactions of other beings, and report back to his commander, Lady Void. Kairos is seen as more-or-less an outcast among his kind. He acts like a god for the powers he possesses and gives him an ego that is unfitting for his race. Due to his dimension-hopping, he is hard to pinpoint, making his actions under the radar and dangerous to Lady Void. The Migrator is currently in pursuit of this being, and will be put to death once found.

High resolution images in support of my April 2023 BrickNerd article.

Me, Bricknerd, and Mechanekton made a new video for the School of Life channel! Watch it here

A study of techniques based on the idea of improving on a technique I recently came across online. I was impressed by this other technique, but I wanted to try to close a small gap.

All techniques are based around this piece: www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=2432 which I think we can call the "hipster cheese slope" because I was into them before they were cool.

1: Blatantly stolen from bricknerd: www.flickr.com/photos/bricknerd/8257985762/ - but even though that was 2 years ago I somehow overlooked it until recently.

2: My first attempt at improving on the design by lowering the headlight brick by half of a plate. This proved to me that the geometry would work like I thought it would (there may be a little strain on the cheese slope, but I'd say it's not enough to be a problem), but I wasn't happy with the clunkiness of the top. I don't think it's too hard of a SNOT problem to solve, but I thought working the other direction would be a better use of time/effort.

3: In this one the cheese slope is not attached anymore, but firmly held in place (and not going to go anywhere) thanks to a 1 x 2 panel ( www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4865 ). This one solves the geometry issue but isn't pretty enough for me because it uses a stud instead of giving a solid, mosaic-like surface.

4: A complete solution. I did switch to a 1x2 cheese slope so 54200 wouldn't fall into the 2432 while I was assembling it. You can probably tell how this was done - there's only one SNOT element and the math is all straightforward. There's a closeup in my previous photo: www.flickr.com/photos/dp3/16423154355/

Hey, y'all! It's been a year! As I'm writing this, my partner and I have just gotten comfortable in our new home, I've spent a few weeks at my new position at work, and I'm feeling amazing about another great year. My LEGO work was back to being mostly focused on cars, and despite being really worried coming into 2023 that I was running out of inspiration, I think I made some of the very best car models I've ever made this year.

My Apollo Motel got to participate in the LEGO BrickLink MOC Pop-Up Store, which was a really cool program, and some other amazing builders and friends of mine made it in, too!

I did a bit more writing for BrickNerd this year - not as much as I had anticipated, but a lot of changes in my personal life ended up taking way more of my attention than expected. Still, I love it.

My favorite builds of 2023, in no particular order, are probably:

- Risk of Rain 2: Titanic Plains, an homage to one of my favorite games that I got to pack with details and mini models.

- 1967 Toyota 2000GT, a car I've put off building for years because I was worried I couldn't nail it.

- Choking Hazard, because of the reactions I get when people see it.

Not sure what 2024 will bring, but I've got some ideas brewing. Hope y'all have a great New Year!

This is my thirteenth annual collage. I’m getting old.

-I started off with a quick Brethren of the Brick Seas collaboration and a couple of hexagons that were actually octagons (whoops). It’s a teaser for the new Era which is—still—a work in progress.

-Next up, a fantastic commission for Sermon Audio that turned into a custom set now for sale! By far my most exciting LEGO project of the year.

-Brickworld was a fantastic experience as usual. My sisters and I had fun going all out with some life-sized swords, something that’s been on my to-build list for a long time now. Played some splendid games of frisbee and the Simon Games were a hit too, even with my less LEGO-fanatic sister who went into them seriously doubting herself and came out with the best angry snowman build.

-Pirate Isle from last year turned out to be the MOC that just kept giving, with a nomination at BW and an award at The Ultimate Brick Show.

-Summer Joust was a blast, this may have been the first time I went… not quite all out, but at least three entries. Felt good to get an honorable mention for Conquering Hero and micro Neuschwanstein Castle is a build I’ll be proud of for a long time!

-Also double dipped with a single entry into MELO that won a award—and then got rehashed into a SJ entry, and then rehashed again for a con display. So when I count MOCs for this year, does that count as one MOC or three?

-Of course I can’t go any farther without mentioning Iron Builder. Wild couple of weeks, lots of great builds on both sides, a disappointing loss but overall a fantastic experience that I’m really grateful for. Also about 50% of my total build output this year…

-After that I had a lot to clean up and also I spent some time refining a few IB builds for con display. Still have a couple mangled builds in the closet but on the whole the room is looking 100% better. And I managed to squeeze out a Wandering Skies entry and come home with second place.

-22 or 27 MOCs this year, depending on how you count them. It’s not a record low, but only one dragon so… Four other builds in the works too—well more than four actually, but four that I have real plans to finish.

-Highlight BrickNerd article from this year would have to be my AI article, a hot topic that was really intriguing to think through from a variety of angles.

-Was also a pleasure to chat with several builders for Blocks Magazine interviews.

Otherwise, I’ve had an interesting year, though for the most part it feels like I’ve been laying foundations and who knows what’ll end up getting built on them. I’m about half way through my most ambitious book yet, prepping for a black belt test in January, setting up shop for a new t-shirt business—we’ll see where it all goes!

For favorites this year, there’s no question that Neuschwanstein Castle, the Jurassic Park Jeep, and Blades top the list, with Frontiers lagging just behind.

Left to right:

Blades

The Vault

Dwarven Mine

Frontiers

Humble Beginnings

Acheron

Neuschwanstein Castle

Jurassic Jeep

Kalypso

Swamp

Beyond

Hot Dog

2018 – some of my biggest builds

2019 – trying to fine tune my color choices

2020 – improved photoshop skills and lots of digital builds

Made for my most recent Bricknerd article: Mangled Minifigs: The Hidden Connections Within

My first attempt at building something in Chibi style, I hope I get it right. I have been inspired from an interesting article on Bricknerd.

Here you can find the video tutorial:

San Diego Comic Con 2014 has begun, so to celebrate, here is my mosaic of the San Diego Comic Con logo.

This was a real challenge; I'm still not happy with it, building it physically would have been easier.

Blogged By BrickNerd: bricknerd.com/home/sdcc-is-in-full-swing-25-2014

This is my entry to the BrickNerd ‘pi-RATS & BUG-aneers’ LEGO contest. The brief was to build a pirate-themed ship, fort or hideaway inspired by a non-human crew.

Those pesky Pirates, led by Captain Ginger Bread, have sailed to the Imperial Carrot Fort to rescue their captured shipmate.

The Pirate baddies are made up of junk food, the Imperial goodies are all fruit and vegetables. The Pirate ships are made of chocolate, sweet treats, and a hot dog inna bun. The weapons are all food related too – watch out for the carrot trebuchet, cherry cannons, ketchup, mustard, frying pans, whisks, knives and more!

Will the Pirates succeed in rescuing Blue Ice Cream? Or will the Imperials save the day?

This is my first time building a MOC bigger than a 16 x 16 base plate. My aim was to fill it with creativity and plenty of NPU. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge!

Hey! Incase you missed it, BrickNerd featured me last month! I am so honored to be asked to do something like this and talk about myself as a builder and beyond that. For the past few months I have really felt out of the loop with LEGO: changing my job, end of cons for the year, not attending as many LUG meetings :( Its a weird thing and it can easily make you feel really uninspired to build. I feel overjoyed being featured on BrickNerd when I feel that I am so new to the LEGO community and really dont deserve it just yet. However its opportunities like these that really make me want to keep building cool stuff and motivate me to tackle the endless task of sorting. Anyways! If you want to read about boring me, here ya go!

Here's my first entry for #nerdvember2021 by #bricknerd.

A mini Lego Tumbler is flying off the rooftop of a multistory car park, like in the iconic Batman Begins chase. The vignette fits on a 12x12 studs base and it slightly below 300 parts. It contains two minifigures: one police officer below and Batman inside the Tumbler.

One of my entries for the Nerdvember contest on Bricknerd. Actually, it's just something I came up with while experimenting with my other entry. The theme of the contest is 80's and this is more of a 70's build, but the rules did say that we can build anything we want as long as it's nerdy.

To me, Black is so hard to photograph. This is a play scale van assembled with stolen techniques mainly consisting of snot. Just under 170 pcs and easily editable to lower the part count, use what you have right … my #nerdvember2021 by #bricknerd entry

Bricknerd saw may photo of UPY 2005 and was inspired to render it. His render inspired my to revisit my old 3GS21B and totally rebuild it. Now the circle of inspiration is complete. This one's for you Bricknerd!

The Chevy II (commonly known as Nova) served as the economy car in Chevrolet's lineup in the 60's and 70's. It was available in coupe, sedan, four door, convertible and, as pictured here, station wagon body styles. Powertrain wise it was available with either a 4cylinder, 6 cylinder or V8. Most were optioned with the 6 cylinder.

@troublesbricking posted on Instagram when he received advanced copies of BrickJournal #83 featuring his Baby Space builds. I noticed the cover indicated that there were articles on NNovvember, Shiptember and FebRovery and wondered if any of my builds were featured. I grabbed a copy at Barnes&Nobles, flipped through and sure enough there were five of my rovers! Turns out the FebRovery article is the excellent piece written by Andreas Lenander originally for BrickNerd. What a nice surprise!

It's a whole smorgasbord of adorable, miniature snacks featuring an ice pop, sushi roll, doughnut, fries, and a carrot!

This build is an entry for the "Small Scale" category in BrickNerd's AdoraBuild 2024 contest.

Highlights:

– 131 builds! Not bad, really. ;)

– Blogged by TBB, once.

– Blogged a couple of times by BrickNerd.

– In quick succession, MOCathalon in March, GoH’s Challenge IV from March to June, and then AG kept me with a rate of at least one build a week. A bit exhausting, but fun!

– Published in Beautiful LEGO: Wild!

– Participated in a collab build with my brothers – Fight Through Abercrumbie Pass.

– Made it past the 50 favorites mark, though I was gunning for a hundred, but I guess that will have to wait.

– Passed 500 followers.

– Got a few honorable mentions here and there.

– Participated in launching Brethren of the Brick Seas.

Unlike those who are saying that they will be trying to build more next year, I will actually be trying to build less. I really want to make every MOC as good as it can be rather than feeling rushed to finish a build in a couple of hours. Plus I want to start building more as an art than just because I want to enter the next contest… so we’ll see!

My favorite builds this year:

Well, I really liked my worthless steering wheel build. But apparently not too many other people did.

Water of Life, if small, is still one of my favorites.
