Tom, Adrian and I brewed 2 10 gallon batches today. Batch one was a porter and batch two was a weizenbeir. This photo was a tasting of beers we have brewed over the last few years. I went into the "beer closet" which I now share with my daughter, and found a few oldies that we popped open.

After 14 days of fermentation it was time to bottle our beer. We sterilised everything and then racked the beer from the fermenter to the bottling bucket. At the end of fermentation, the refractometer reading was 7.0 Brix - a Specific Gravity of 1.0277 and a predicted alcohol by volume of 3.6%. Ouch...but a refractometer's not the best thing to use post-fermentation as I believe the alcohol affects the reading. The Hydrometer recorded a Final Gravity of 1.012 (exactly the same as our original "Tube Strike IPA"). Unfortunately we did not take a reading on brew day, but if we use the BrewToad Original Gravity of 1.051, that gives us an alcohol by volume of 5.12% That's better :-) We ended up with circa-20.5 litres of beer at 19.2°C and primed with 149 grams of dextrose. This was a little above the recommended 145.8 grams recommended for 2.5 vol of CO2. We bottled 58 x 330ml bottles. Good progress and it's great to have beer in bottle. It'll be two weeks before we know what "Grain Chuck IPA" is really like! Hertfordshire, UK, Saturday, November 21, 2015.

One hell of a brewing system just off the harbor. These were the "light" snow clouds our lovely meteorologist was talking about earlier in the day. Ya, right.
Long exposure about 15m prior to this shot.

The Brew City Bruisers did a terrific job in beating the Appleton Foxz. This was my first time to see the event and found it to be a great time!

It was the first wedding anniversary since our daughter was born. My wife was on maternity leave and I was on paternity leave and we were determined to get out of the house and enjoy what was left of the summer. We chose to begin by giving the tread of our new stroller an off road test on Fort Snelling's Pike Island. Instead we got lost immediately after leaving the parking lot, took a harrowing trip down a steep path, and ran out of energy before we really began. Once we pushed the stroller back up the hill we agreed that it might be more fun to just go have a drink at the Summit Brewing Company Ratskeller.

Strobist: SB-600 into umbrella. Shot at 1/250 f/9 to virtually eliminate all ambient. Draped a blue jacket over myself to give a blue reflection off of espresso maker - thought it was good contrast with the orangey-reds of the espresso.
