The 2012 Blessing of the pets -- held on our front lawn after a pet-friendly worship service. [photo by Bruce]
If ever an animal deserved a blessing, it is Panda. Panda has become a celebrity dog in the East Tennessee region and was attending PetFest in support of Smoky Mountain Saint Bernard Rescue, whose members surely helped to save her life.
Panda was the victim of a horrible animal cruelty case in East Tennessee earlier in the year. She had been tied up and left by her owners with a cable that became entangled around her leg. Panda eventually chewed her own leg off to free herself. The whole story can be read here. (Warning some of the photos aren't for the squeamish.)
Suffice it to say, Panda is recovering now and has become something of a poster-dog for rescue groups and other animal welfare groups.
I enjoyed the opportunity to pet her and tell her what a good girl she was. She gets along quite well on three legs. She has been adopted and seems to have a very good disposition.
To help recruit pet owners for her work at HABIT, Ruth was manning a table at Grace Lutheran Church's PetFest. I went to take pictures and enjoy the exhibits.
second leg of spring break: drive from cleveland to virginia to spend 3 days with my BFF. we've been BFF's for half of my life. she is so kind.... to me, to all people. i'm very lucky to have her.... not sure how I got so lucky.
anyway, had to drive the dreaded PA turnpike, which I HATE! It fills me with serious anxiety. all those tiny lanes, speeding semi's, and mountainous curvy roads. I used to not mind it, but now .... uugh. And then there is the tunnel... pure torture.
BUT, we made it. It took 6.5 hours... the kids were great. and when I got there we had so many signs of welcome. hugs, flowers, notes on the bathroom mirror. It made me warm and fuzzy all over......
“May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day. May songbirds serenade you every step along the way. May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that's always blue. And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.”
~Irish Blessing

Each guest was asked to give a blessing and/or wish to the baby and then guess the baby's sex, date of arrival, time, and weight - these were put in a glass jar for me to put in the baby's book...

Every sunrise is a present,
A gift from God above,
Gift-wrapped with scarlet ribbons,
Tied with bows of love.
Each day's a new beginning,
A time to start anew,
While all the stars are sleeping,
The rose is fresh with dew.
Each day's a new creation,
Too lovely to ignore,
We may find a blessing,
Just outside our door.
We cannot keep the past,
Like fireflies in a jar;
Nor journey to the future,
By wishing on a star.
Every sunrise is a blessing,
A gift for just today,
Rejoice my friend,
Embrace it before it fades away!

This is the day which the LORD hath made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it.

I took this in the car this morning as my husband was driving 90 miles an hour it seemed. It is not in focus but pretty all the same!!!
SECRET 12/30
Even though I hate to get out of bed in the mornings, I truly love to watch the sun come up! I use to leave the house to go to work at 5:45 in the mornings, but I really loved the hour drive in the mornings, the world is so peaceful, (or at least where we live, cause I hate big city traffic)
This girl was a total blessing to me this weekend! My family received some pretty bad news, my aunt was diagnosed with leukemia on Saturday... I've found some peace going out and taking photos of this beauty! I know there was no eating of Vi knowing this, but she honestly could not have come at a more perfect time....she truly was a blessing and I am so grateful for Vi...huge hugs to you my new friend <3
Wangdor Rinpoche, a very sweet lama who is a Dzogchen master, blesses my mala, a mala of rose crystal beads that I have had since 1972. The stories it could tell! :) (Thank you, Purusha, for getting this shot with my camera - I am standing just to the left, out of frame.)
Blessing of the foundations of a new six floor apartment building in Chiang Mai Thailand by Brahmin priest. Buddhism exists side-by-side with, and to some extent intermingles with, pre-Buddhist animism and Brahman practices. Most Thais, whether or not they profess to be Buddhists, believe in a rich supernatural world. When ill, or at other times of crisis, or to seek supernatural help, Thais may enlist the aid of a practitioner who is believed to be able to propitiate or obtain help from various spirits. Local spirits are believed to inhabit a variety of objects, and shrines to them may be found in houses, businesses in Buddhist temples, along roads, and in forests. Blessing ceremonies to ward off evil spirits and bad luck are carried out both by Buddhist monks and Brahmins.
