Lisa, who's been an adopted Fridy since junior high, reads the touching and exquisite blessing she prepared for our ceremony. Doug and I were both part of Lisa's 1998 handfasting to her husband Ian, and it meant so much to us both that Lisa could be such an important part of our awesome wedding. We love you, Rosebud and Ion!

Incidentally, this is pretty much the best picture of the train of my gown. I designed, burned-out, dyed, beaded, and embellished that thing myself...and you can barely see the results on camera. Oh well. Maybe I should have used more Swarovski crystals.

This was the whole team for enacting "Ram Lila" from the Delhi Public School, Sector 45 Gurgaon.

Something was very wrong with RAM. The play was over and the actors just came out to bid farewell to the audience. Ram was initially fine with that. But suddenly got back into the blessing mode and lifted his hand with that awesome pose.

Seems like we are going to have a super blessed future!! :-D

The final word of the October photo challenge was BLESSING. And what better equine blessing have I ever witnessed than the story of Guinevere, whose dam was one step away from the slaughter pipeline before she was purchased by the proprietor of Camelot Auction and foaled Guin at the auction? Guin is now six months old and spends her days at Helping Hearts Equine Rescue, romping with Indigo, her Friesian playmate.

This photo was taken a couple of years ago around this time of year. It was when I was in Thailand on a humanitarian assistance mission. It really pains me to hear that the country is in such disarray right now...because this is my picture of Thailand. Even the dogs were smiling there!

Hearing reports such as what's going on in Thailand, about the insurgent attacks in Afghanistan, the random stabbings in China, makes me wonder why I got so lucky. First off, I was born in a country where people stare at Soldiers in a town because they've never seen one before...not because they are a daily occurrence. The people of the US would never STAND for Soldiers running around their capitals or daily military convoys in front of their house. Second, I have been given the opportunity to see these parts of the world and was treated with nothing but kindness and left unharmed. I'm so lucky to have this picture in my head when I think of my time in Thailand.

When I was in the Philippines, I used to think that we should take a spoiled, rotten, American kid who is always in trouble because of stupid stuff and stick them in the middle of the Philippines for a few months. And then take one of the Philippine kids who work hard to get an education and let them experience the opportunities that most American kids get. I worry that it would corrupt the Filipino. I would hope it would give the American kid a wake up call...life isn't so bad if you're not fighting for your very survival every day.

I think I'll get off my soap box now. This post was just to remind myself that only by luck of birth am I able to enjoy on the "extras" in life.

the next photos are taken on March in Bucharest, before I started my flickr account...I decided to put them here at the end of the year - not to just lay in my computer. I liked the city very much.

hard to believe, but today's my 3-year flickr anniversary.

thanks for continuing to make it worth my while!

Blessing of the foundations of a new six floor apartment building in Chiang Mai Thailand by Brahmin priest. Buddhism exists side-by-side with, and to some extent intermingles with, pre-Buddhist animism and Brahman practices. Most Thais, whether or not they profess to be Buddhists, believe in a rich supernatural world. When ill, or at other times of crisis, or to seek supernatural help, Thais may enlist the aid of a practitioner who is believed to be able to propitiate or obtain help from various spirits. Local spirits are believed to inhabit a variety of objects, and shrines to them may be found in houses, businesses in Buddhist temples, along roads, and in forests. Blessing ceremonies to ward off evil spirits and bad luck are carried out both by Buddhist monks and Brahmins.
