I thought my other picture was a little dark to see the brown of the setting squares correctly. I used Moda's dot-to-dot for Robert Kaufman. Also, 2 bricks are not Blessings, can you find them? One is a repro black and the other a Thimbleberries club fabric from 2004.

The blessing goes like this... place a coin on top of the couples hands which together hold a coconut over a bowl. Then, you pour three splashes of coconut milk onto the coin and over their hands, and then you throw rice on each of their heads.

Today it was the Global Service day for the company where I work and all the regional offices had to volunteer in some community work. We were lucky to spend a day with the kids Dubai's Centre for special needs. Great experience and a real eye opener.
I could only think: if only we don't take what we've been given for granted...

Wangdor Rinpoche, a very sweet lama who is a Dzogchen master, blesses my mala, a mala of rose crystal beads that I have had since 1972. The stories it could tell! :) (Thank you, Purusha, for getting this shot with my camera - I am standing just to the left, out of frame.)
Irish Family Blessing
May love and laughter light your days
And warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
Wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
With joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
Bring the best to you and yours!
I stamped the damask with Versamark ink and then heat embossed with white embossing powder. Then I rubbed brown stamping ink over the whole card. A slightly damp paper towel will take most of the brown ink off of the embossed image. If you painted the background instead of using stamping ink, you could obtain a much softer feel. I just thought I'd try this for a warm, fall card.
Blessing ceramic quartz wall clock, made in Germany. The movement takes a C-cell battery, and is also made in Germany. Late 1970s or early 1980s. The slight green colouration on the face (mainly at the bottom) is in the original ceramic glaze.
In the first years of the 20th century, Jonathan Pierce filed a deed with the Galveston, Harrisburg & San Antonio Railroad (Southern Pacific) to lay out a town along the rail line at the junction of two major roads. He named the community Blessing, and a second rail company soon built additional tracks through town.
In 1912, concerned about the educational and cultural needs of the community, local women established the Blessing Library Association. Edna Woodruff served as the group's first president. Two years later, the association joined the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs, assisting in the organization of the Matagorda County Federation of Women's Clubs in 1916.
In 1917, prominent rancher and businessman A.B. Pierce, son of the town founder, donated a former ranch building that had also served as an office and bank. The association converted it to library facilities. Under the direction of Pierce's wife, Adelaide, who also served as president of the county federation, the association funded construction of a community house in 1921. It became a social and cultural center for the town, and was the scene of dances, movies, vaudeville performances, plays, graduations, concerts, immunization programs and many important activities.
In the 1950s, the association reorganized as a non-profit charitable corporation, thus ending its longtime partnership with the women's club. The new group continued to offer the community house for events, meetings and services. In 1991, the facilities transferred to Matagorda County, which maintains the property as a social and activity center for Blessing-area residents. (2005) (Marker No. 13257)
