I grew up on a street lined with Norway Maple trees, so, in my mind, this is the "classic" maple leaf. My neighbor disdains the Norway Maple as a non-native species, but they are widely planted and naturalized here. HTmT!

old one because i have been shooting film recently and have been embarrassingly slow on that progress. waiting to finish two rolls before i get them developed.

I've been going through my archives a lot lately, trying to finally get some of the old pics I'd taken years ago processed, and weeding out some of the things I know I'll probably never do. It's not easy for me, since my somewhat packrat ways translate over to not being able to part with photos, either, but lately the sheer drudgery of having to wade through so many mediocre shots to find a good one is driving me nuts! Makes it a little easier to make the cuts!
This one was taken at Sugar Mill Gardens, several years back. I was looking for something yellow to post, and realizing that very few of my shots HAVE yellow in them! At least the centers of these flowers did, and the light tones weren't completely blown out by strong sun, as is often the case when I DO find yellow or white flowers in my travels.
Anyway, the petals looked quite pure to me- like something innocent- a new beginning- which is fitting as it's the first day of 2016! Happy New Year to all!
Winter took its time
Spawning in April
On the manicured lawn
Of a chiaroscuro day.
Breathing in silence
For nine long months
Before swaddling catastrophe
With new fears
To replace the old
That numbness never
Fully pained away.

Sound Composition "Paranormal Beginnings" by Penumbra Carter

Last few days in Second Life with my 11 year old computer. I have filmed how people look to me and thought that they represent the Paranormal Beginnings of the fully formed avatar and attachments. I am getting a new computer, soon.
I guess I've kind of lost the rhythm of being here on Flickr. I remember back when I started, I was so excited to see the result of everyone's creativity. Not that I'm saying I'm tired of everyone's work. But I think for me it's one of those things where I have to take a break in order to appreciate it again. I don't mean photography for me, but being on Flickr. I don't want to just comment on all of your work for the sake of just commenting. I really want to be sharing what I really think. By being on Flickr all the time before, I think I was falling into the habit of just stating vaguely what parts I liked about the picture, without really "looking" at the picture. I owe you guys so much more than just "commenting" half the truth.
With that said, I have my first class in University tomorrow! I'm actually really excited! As weird as this will sound, I'm more excited about what I'll learn more than the social aspect of being in University. Of course I'm ecstatic to meet new people, but at the same time, I'm crazy psyched to be part of a school that has so much to offer. I don't know what this year will bring me, but I really do hope I will be happy.
I took a walk today at golden hour to clear my mind for the new beginning. This was one of my favourites. I didn't notice the detail of the spiderwebs until I uploaded to my laptop. I'm very happy with this. As I'm typing this description and looking up at my picture, it's almost like a sign telling me I'm on the right track. I must say I feel very content.
(Whether it be high school or university) Hope all of you are having a great start to your new school year! : )

Presidential inauguration is today for those of you outside the USA. So it's a new beginning for the country, and a new season kicks off in my mind at least with the blossoming of our flowering quince. We have 2 tall (my height) pink quince shrubs as well as some newer, red ones - and they all survived the drought. Today will be our 9th January day >= 70o here in Atlanta - and that's got the buds opening a bit early. Winter isn't done with us yet - and this puts the buds & blooms at risk if we get hard frosts.
A lot of prayers led to this day ... here's hoping for a year of God's favor and prosperity for everyone! Happy Inauguration Friday!

NHL training camps are starting up and so is local hockey. This was JJ's first game 3 years ago. I've always liked this photo but never got around to posting it, but the beginning of another season seems to me like the right time. I like the triangular shape with JJ at the apex, a white sweater against the reds.
