“For last year's words belong to last year's language

And next year's words await another voice.

And to make an end is to make a beginning."

― T.S. Eliot

Happy first day of 2015 my friends,

may your New Year be bright and inspired!

"In the Beginning" both in the biblical and literal sense... This old church is the only thing left of a town that once was... I can't find any history on the church as to when it was built.

The image was shot right after I arrived at 7pm on Monday night. Winds were already picking up. I kept looking at my weather apps to see which direction the storm was going (trying to stay safe) and the app was telling me something completely different than what was actually happening. Eventually, this storm turned into a tornado about where the lightning is in this image (I'll post that image later) My plan here was to photograph this old church with the milky way behind it from the other side. That did not happen. I soon realized that if I did not get out of there I was gonna end up like one of the cows in the movie Twister. It's hard to describe properly but as I was trying to escape the wrath of this storm I soon realized I was surrounded with no where to go. Being out on the plains with no shelter I was pretty scared...I was in my car but that wont really protect you from a tornado. Just south of this church sit two old silos and I thought about getting in them but I would have had to leave my car and run about 100 yards with quarter sized hail coming down at incredible speeds... I weighed my options quickly and ended up finding a tree to park under to lessen the damage to the car from the hail. I sat there for about 30 min, called my wife to let her know where I was and what was happening in case I didn't make it. Finally the hail turned to rain, I waited a little longer for the storm to move further away and then I got out of there... it was one of the top 5 scariest times of my life...I felt helpless because mother nature doesn't care who you are and I really didn't have a good solid way of protecting myself when push came to shove...

This image was shot 2 hours before the storm fully developed, this was the fun part of the night that soon turned into a real life horror story. In another image you will see the storm headed right for the church and I am really wondering if it's still standing... If it is, I will be very amazed... So the next morning I visited another old church that is falling apart and while the structure is good the sides are gone and you can see right through it. I decided then that I was going to start taking images of myself standing next to these places because it seems like they are falling down faster and faster....

Day 7 - #Flickr21Challenge AND #beginnings

These clump of green trees is the new beginning of a forest trying to regenerate itself. That windswept look to them tells a story of struggling to survive the elements. Enjoy a Tree- mendous Tuesday.

We've been having some fantastic conditions for our Canyon Colors Workshop! One of the highlights was catching an early season snowfall at Bryce Canyon. The entire sky was filled with clouds except for one little gap on the horizon. The light was mesmerizing as it illuminated the snow and hoodoos with a deep red color. We were all on cloud nine after witnessing such an incredible scene!

Climbing a mountain at 6 in the morning is one great way to start a new day - Have a nice weekend :)

I bought an amaryllis bulb in early December and I was hoping she would be flowering by Christmas but sadly, it was not to be. Fingers crossed though that she will be revealing her beauty in time for the new year

I noticed this one in the neighbourhood today. Hopefully when the rest of the tail flowers I will be able to get some images of the flowers without having to step off the footpath and into the garden.

For a long time I took no photos of clouds. Stieglitz had done it; better to Be Here Now; the experience is better than the memory. One thing I know for sure: tomorrow, the clouds will be beautiful. Then eventually, like Doc Brown, I thought, “Oh, what the hell.”

Life moves forward.

The old leaves wither,

die and fall away, and

the new growth extends

forward into the light.

These are an irresistible cliche in this part of the world.

Call it cheesy - I don't care!!! ;-)

T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets

A new beginning requires a need to burn the past

And how we burn the past can be different for every person

Most often you must deal with it in some way

There are no quick fixes

You need to make plans

You need to go through with them

Sometimes you need to change the plans

They didn't work

Perhaps you must take ten steps back and evaluate

Start all over again with new plans

Are there feelings involved

Yes of course

There are always feelings involved

That's why we often don't want to go through with the changes in life, because we know we will hurt others and we will be hurt ourselves

If you feel deep inside that this change is something you must do, then it's your intuition that talks to you - and you are actually listening

Hurray

Keep up the good work

Follow your path

Burn down the past

Do it properly

But in a good way

With your well thought words, I know you have them

Use them

Remember we have a responsibility for our own life

And so do they

Taking responsibility for others must always be done with caution

They have a growth too you know, and you might slow them down if you take too much responsibility

Be Safe

Love you

Always

The end of the beginning of a life together? A bride and groom after a wander around the streets at night. The bride was in full veil and white wedding dress walking towards the old cars dressed with ribbons.

you can never be too sure if a scene like this will play out to be a good one..or even a great one. on the third day of vacation the sky looked all kinds of promising so I dragged my camera down to the water's edge and waited in anticipation of a great show. as the sun came up it ducked behind a bank of clouds and that was the end of it.. thankfully on this particular morning this beginning had a rather wonderful end to it.

It is just about time for the Northern folks to head down here to sunny Florida for the season. The bridge is down, awaiting the traffic to come swirling down into the neighborhood...
