This was the office building where I worked for ICEM CFD, later ANSYS Berkeley. A friend works there now for Newfield Wireless.

Here in Taiwan we have A LOT OF scooters / mopeds / motorcycles (which is common in most Asian countries).
One day, I just so happened to spot a special scooter that had the MASSIVE sign on the front. It's the typical chinese symbol for "Happiness" that you would commonly find when a couple gets married. It's technically double happiness.
And it's just funny how it has BLISS under it too. Because we all know, being married equates to marital bliss forever and ever. Until the divorce or death do us part.
And it was conveniently positioned within shot of a special store that is actually called "love of the world!" (or "world of love")
Taiwan loves marital bliss. And loves scooters. What better way than to show the world the love here in Taiwan?

Верой и правдой служивший 2 года и между прочим ни разу не подведший Huawei Ascend Mate уходит на заслуженный отдых.
Он ходил без чехла, летал с велосипеда на асфальт и трамвайные пути. И он как новенький..
У него еще полно свободной оперативки, на нем живет Android 4.4, EMUI 3.1 (только это сторонний лаунчер). В общем он пережил полутора годовалый самсунг, у которого успел сдохнуть аккумулятор (в том числе и купленный в Китае усиленный), который перезагружался перед смертью. HAM на момент покупке не был самой последней моделью, однако спустя 2 года все еще актуален. До сих пор отлично держит заряд, которого хватает на 2 дня активного использования. Не смотря на то, что меня ждет его брат, мне не хочется с ним расставаться. Наверное так не бывает, чтобы вещь вызывала только позитивные эмоции, только работала и не заставляла расстраиваться. Оказалось бывает.
Я купил его из-за батареи и производителя, расстроенный и поставленный в крайне неудобное положение самсунгом. Я надеялся получить надежность, и я ее получил. Это самый лучший телефон, которым я пользовался (а уж сравнить мне есть с чем), который просто делал все, что было нужно. Это самый быстро выбранный телефон, за 2 часа шока от потери нажитого непосильным трудом на самсунге. Это самый быстро купленный мной телефон: я влетел в Связной за 15 минут до закрытия с выпученными глазами, где мне выдали чудесную "лопату". Работа на морозе? Легко. С обычными перчатками? (мои руки не все сенсоры воспринимают и без перчаток летом) Не вопрос. Wi-Fi 5ггц? Ну если ты так хочешь.. Прибить в фоне деятельность сомнительного софта? Как два пальца. Качество сигнала (3G, 4G он не умеет) тоже потрясло. Он показывал всегда больше палок, чем телефоны рядом. Он еще как-то цеплялся за последнюю палку, когда остальные были вне сети. Успешно скушал флешку на 64гига, хотя и не обещалось это.
Когда мне в руки попал Mate 2, я как-то не сильно задумался о замене. А зачем? Ради одного 4G? Аппарат, который всем устраивает. Это про Ascend Mate. Я не знаю, сколько бы я еще ходил с ним, если бы не достался мне Макс. Я не буду продавать или дарить Mate, он был моим помощником и секретарем 2 года. Он останется в резерве, как профессионал, который всегда готов придти на помощь. Возможно от отправится со мной в поездки с роумингом в страны, где про LTE не слышали. А сейчас..
Ему на смену приходит Huawei P8 Max. Еще быстрее, еще больше, еще умнее, еще современнее.
Скоро я напишу про него подробнее. Пока я знакомился с ним (неделю), уже накопилось материала на несколько заметок. Пока могу сказать, что он достойно продолжает традицию-делает все, что должен, так как этого можно только хотеть.

I enjoyed today's shoot a lot. I enjoyed every little aspect of it. Even hunting for that striped shirt, the hat and the white foundation powder, to the photoshoot, and post-processing. My mother loved seeing me prance around the house like this. And my brother actually laughed at me.
All went well today :) [I secretly think it's because the sun is out today] yay :)
Don't let money become your master. Instead, learn how to master your money
It's been good to have a full pro-account back up and running [thanks again Mel!] And I've been looking at my old archives again, re-reading the things I wrote [oh the many words!] and it's bringing back a lot of good times [and or bad!] from last year during my gap year!
A lot has happened. Namely, in conjunction with this one.
Regarding money, I've come a long LONG way since that shot was taken. Or even this time last year, I was in a very bad financial pickle.
And I was re-reading the entry [even though I re-edited it a few days after the post, the original post was truly honest and an open account of my money troubles]. And I re-read through all the comments again. I find it amazing that my contacts encouraged me through their comments! So thanks again.
Today, like I've said, I've come a long long way. I have some money saved, but still need to save more for the silly student loan debts I have left back at home in UK.
The cost of living here in Taiwan is very very cheap. My daily budget here per day consists of a mere NT$100. That's the equivalent of just £2 back at home. And usually I'd spend about 100 per day on food in total. Sometimes I don't even spend it, and then I just use that NT$100 for the next day.
I'd like to think I've somewhat learnt how to be more financially independent, financially stable, having now come to grips about the money thing. What with being away from home, paying bills, watching my expenditure.
Today marks a good day. It's pay day today! And not only that, it's the 1st ever month I don't need to pay full taxes this month. I can't explain. But today is a good day!
But for the past 9 months of being here, money has been tight, but always just the right amount. God always provides enough, down to the last penny. Or should I say dollar over here! I always get amazed whenever I'm shopping, and I forget to calculate before hand how much I will be spending on each item, I always find the right amount, sometimes spot on, or I have maybe NT$10 left to spare. Great timing and providence!
But there were moments when I didn't have enough money. Nothing in the bank. And I had maybe a few hundred dollars to last me a few days [it'd always happen maybe a few days before pay day!]
And there were times when I couldn't afford for food. But praise God, the place I work allows you to keep your purchased food on a tab, and to pay the school back later! So that has always been a blessing.
And so, this verse has deeply affected me immensely, and still does. God has indeed provided strength, and helped me financially. And will continue to do so in the future. I still look forward to the day all my debts have been paid off. Sigh. But I'll just keep plodding on working I guess.
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

СМИ, социальные сети, новостные сайты, форумы, чаты завалены обсуждениями игры PokemonGo. Многие компании хотят примазаться к масштабной пиар компании и тоже заработать популярности. В одних кругах общения все поголовно устанавливают игру, отдельные личности возмущаются и негодуют.
В связи с информационным потоком, несущем горы мифов, рождаются полярные точки зрения. Попробуем разобраться в том, что из себя представляет игра, каковы плюсы и минусы, стоит ли на нее обращать внимание и, конечно, не забудем опасности, которые она несет. Это сейчас особенно модная тема.
Модно, весело, популярно
Я не буду судить о самой идее покемонов, я от нее далек, не увлекался, не смотрел и т.д. Сам геймплей достаточно примитивен. Есть куда более интересные сюжеты, есть и графика получше, есть и социальная часть посильнее. Массовая популярность обеспечена ажиотажем и небольшой новизной.
Не виртуальная реальность
Хотя из каждого угла нам твердят, что реально, виртуальная реальность, ее там нет. Да, есть карта, google maps, на которой отдельным слоем нарисованы игровые локации. Пожалуй, единственным отличием от остальных игр будет перемещение ногами, а не пальцем. Ловля покемонов, которая выложена на большинстве страниц с обзорами, самая дешевая и унылая фикция. С моим чехлом книжкой, постоянно закрывающим заднюю камеру зверьки успешно отображались на фоне обложки.. Никакого хождения с камерой по местности нет, направление, в котором смотреть, так же выбираете вы. Фактически это как рекламная пленка, которую клеят на экран телефонов, на смартфоне с запущенной камерой. После первой пятерки покемонов этот процесс ввергает в уныние.
Не новинка вообще
Как многие источники отмечают, программа является наследием Ingress, даже точки те же. Просто перерисованная и несколько приспособленная под обывателя (ингресс уж слишком гиковская) для массового распространения и очень пропиаренная. Кроме точек, есть и баги, они тоже переехали из ингресс, среди них например потеря спутников при отключении экрана и выжирание батареи.
Все так плохо?
Безусловно, есть плюсы, как и Ингресс, ловля покемонов потребует погулять. Это очень хорошо, особенно если вы не умеете бесцельно бродить, а сходить никуда не нужно. Формальная цель, даже не одна, вполне себе повод выбраться из дома. Для мало бывающих на воздухе детей будет только польза. Сами точки на карте выбираются не просто так, в Ингресс принимали только примечательные места, это какие-то памятники, интересные здания, статуи, граффити и прочее. Скачав игру я, конечно же, отправился в центр. Там много точек. Вроде и часто бываю в центре, но увидел несколько объектов, которые раньше не замечал. Чем не повод лучше изучить город?
Ходить или ездить?
Расположение точек несколько не располагает к пешим прогулкам, много их за такую прогулку не обойти. Я ездил на велосипеде, тоже не очень хорошее впечатление - для этого расстояние порой слишком маленькое, постоянно останавливаешься, рваный темп. Нервирует. Езда на машине или общественном транспорте смысла не имеет вовсе, так как карту нельзя посмотреть сильно далеко (примерно в радиусе 1км только).
Как играть
Я не пишу обзоры на игры, не записываю игровое видео, да и почти не играю. За этим скорее нужно ходить к геймблоггерам, там и видео, и картинки. Поэтому остановимся на технических зарядах игры. Заряд утекает быстро. Примерно 1% за 5 минут на моем 4360mah аккумуляторе. Это грустно. При этом если экран отключать, то не работает инкубатор (полученные яйца кладутся в него и надо пройти определенное расстояние, чтобы зверь вылупился), то есть расстояние тупо не учитывается. Ну не могу я на велосипеде ехать с включенной лопатой, не могу. На мелком телефоне это лучше даже не пробовать, размер экрана и без того не самое простое и приятное занятие испортит. Ходить по улицам, постоянно пялясь в телефон - удел ипотечников, им терять точно нечего.
Безопасность
Я не буду повторять банальные истины, что нужно смотреть, куда идешь, а не в телефон или планшет, особенно в России, и покемоны тут не при чем. Шагнуть под трамвай можно и лайкая котиков в ФБ. Про управление транспортным средством и отвлечение на телефон говорить еще глупее. Кстати заставка при загрузке намекает, что зазевавшихся геймеров на пути может поджидать дракон с открытой пастью. Поэтому сразу перейдем к вопросам информационной безопасности, а то в интернете появились параноидальные статьи:
Миф про то, что ЦРУ следит за нами следует отбросить как самый глупый. ЦРУ следит давно, игра вышла вчера..
Программа снимает ваше видео и отправляет его в ... . Ничего программа не снимает. Конечно, при желании можно поиграть в следователя и зайти в информацию о трафике:
Как видим, потребление вообще смех, даже по сравнению с другими игрушками, вроде бы не сетевыми даже.
Передаются точки перемещения. А как вы хотели без этого? Да, передаются, как и еще тысячей программ, которым это не требуется. Как иначе дать список объектов на карте рядом? Важен тут иной вопрос, ведь данные о перемещении и так всегда собираются и доступны тут, кому передаются данные? Оказывается, что у гугла все ходы давно записаны и это не представляет ценности для него.
СМС не отправляет (и не читает), за звонками не следит. Не вполне понятен bluetoth в правах, возможно оно умеет выдавать на умные часы оповещения, когда рядом есть покемоны (часов нет, проверить не удалось). Кстати, почему-то защита от спящего режима не работает, то ли в виду кривизны приложения, то ли EMUI глушит.
Секретные объекты РПЦ снимать все же можно. Как выше было отмечено, никакой трансляции видео нет. Разве что можно от верующих отхватить благодати, но гугл тут не при чем.
Сбор информации о соединениях. Да, приложение внимательно запишет все сети wifi с geo привязкой. Ну нравится это гуглу, и автомобили стритвью это делают, и карты. Почему игра должна быть в исключениях? Как таковой проблемы в этом нет, хотя бы потому, что с 90% вероятностью все сети, где ездят люди со смартфонами, гуглом давно переписаны. Это ни разу не секрет.
Подводя итоги
Плюсы и минусы вполне понятны и конкретны, рассуждения параноиков и фанатов всегда будут отличаться эмоциями и красочностью. На самом деле все проще и .. скучнее. Стоит ли играть? Лично меня как-то не зацепило. Посмотрим, что будет после официального запуска в России. Пока же можно скачать с 4PDA инсталлятор. Меня очень заинтересовала именно волна популярности, как в нее с радостью вписываются разные компании. Похоже, гугл умеет пиарить вещи чужими руками. Возможно, в следующих версиях баги поправят, работа будет более адекватной, а точки будут не только в центре.
А еще банки предлагают страховку игрокам, ведь все равно найдутся камикадзе, которые убьются..

Usually there is so much hype of Christmas -- the birth of Jesus (which is good!) But Easter-- the whole concept of Jesus dying for us and after 3 days, rose up and resurrected gets forgotten about.

I did have another day 36 Duvet day shot uploaded as part of my 365project. But that was a bit too uhm, flat and depressing.
I totally forgot it was 5th of November Bonfire night tonight until fireworks started banging left right and center outside.
So after this morning's shot and figuring it's a waste of a good national day [bonfire night] I'd reshoot another 365 selfie.... Not that we had any plans to go out this evening [all the big shows were on the weekend just gone], so I did my own little show with indoor sparklers instead.
Whilst I was taking this shot I remembered a photo someone took I had once favourited before. And well, I'm thinking, if I ever get married, I'd so want sparklers at my wedding :)

So let me get you up to speed....
This time last year, during the last couple of days left of my Project 365, I decided to take off and leave to somewhere far far away, which sparked all my contacts on flickr to wonder where I was, hence the set "Where's Ansy??" was created. Only less than 2 weeks into the guessing game, some smartie-pant-contacts guessed correctly.
And yep, I moved myself and my camera to an island called Taiwan, which is all great and everything.
In a space of ONE YEAR, lots have happened. I just can't believe it's officially my 1st anniversary here in Taiwan. To think that 366 days ago I left the United Kingdom, then 365 days ago, I arrived here in Taiwan. It's insane how time suddenly flies.
And well, I've surprised myself that I've survived lots of things. For example:
Arrive.
Job interview [1].
Accepting job offer.
Started teacher-training.
Apartment hunt.
Found potential roommate.
Started teaching classes.
Still looking for apartment.
Food poisoning on birthday.
Apartment hunt.
Apartment found.
2 months later.
Moved in with roommate.
Struggle to make ends meet.
All money towards housing-project.
Broke.
God provideth money when so desperately needeth.
Roommate decides to leave TW due to depression and hating it here.
Ansy left roommate-less and lonely.
Ansy roommate-less, lonely, and bored.
Joined a new-church-plant team.
Bicycle accident on the road.
Pastor and Wife come and help me out. Sweet.
4 months later....
New roommate, a Taiwanese girl.
One month in, she had to leave.
Ansy becomes more and more financially stable.
2 months later...
New roommate. A Canadian, fellow Canto girl from same organisation thing.
Hope she's a keeper.
Roommate conveniently works within same school [ran by same boss].
Roommate is staying and is permanent!
Ansy learns how to ride a scooter.
Ansy fixes up the scooter (that someone gave to her, but has been sat there for 11 months waiting for Ansy to use it)
Ansy passes the scooter driving test and can drive legally on the roads.
Then is the rightful owner of the scooter [took a long long LONG time to get the title papers changed!]
Ansy still works at the same place, teaching kids.
That's about it.... That's pretty my year in a nut-shell.
I have a feeling the next year will be even better! :)
My 17th secret is this: I can sleep practically anywhere.
Basically if I just take off my glasses, my eyes lose focus, (everything literally looks all bokeh, but not really that pretty, enough to keep me up) and well, given that it's quiet, I will doze off.
I've slept in some pretty random places. And I'd be the one to volunteer to sleep on the floor [I did once when 3 girlfriends and I booked a twin bed hotel room once, to celebrate my birthday, I opted for the floor because it looked better than the bed]. I have even dozed off whilst mid-typing on my laptop. Dozed off in the kitchen whilst waiting for the kettle.
Then there was one time I fell asleep for 45minutes or so at Church! [not it wasn't on a Sunday, plus, couldn't on a Sunday because it's far too noisy, what with all the chinese people coming together to catch up!] Fell asleep one Saturday afternoon after worship practice [when everyone else left], and I had to stay behind to sort out the computer-projector system, finished that and dozed off before heading off to work later on in the afternoon!
PS. I'm not really sleeping here. The pews are really uncomfortable to sleep on [as discovered during this shot]. I tend to resort to sleeping on the sofas in the side hall. Much more comfier.
For the rest of this month of May, I have decided to take this opportunity to do the
