MC, UE, Ansys Groundbreaking Ceremony, November 4 2016

So day 3 brings about something controversial. I used to really center my whole life around horoscopes, fortune-telling and predictions and what not. Even a Magic-8 ball seems like a great ball in which to ask questions to.

It's so interesting to want to know what the future holds, is it not? So much so we focus our lives according to "what the fortune teller said...." and bla bla bla.

But have you ever stopped and thought about, if we all knew what each of us had in store for our future, where'd the spontaneity be? Would life be wonderful and happy? Carefree from disaster or back-up-contingency plans?

Even though I'm a Christian, I have to admit sometimes I have the temptation to want to know what will happen. Who doesn't? But where's the fun in life when you know everything about the future? After all, horoscopes aren't 100% true. Just a matter of chance for teaching suckers how to chose something. Likewise, the magic-8 ball is only a matter of probability. No?

So here stands Ansy, about to whack the magic-8 ball with her hammer, after she asked it what she should do for a Day 3 idea for a selfie... And it didn't exactly give her much of an answer... Hum...

But that's just my own view about all this... So keep those voodoo needles to yourselves...

Joe Manich hands Secretary Cortés one of 2007 Siembra awards given by the PMAHCC board. This award tries to recognize those whose work in the community is helping the latino community.

Next we went to the headquarters of Vivísimo in the heart of Sq. Hill in Pittsburgh. Vivisimo makes search software that powers USA.gov and 100+ other sites. Pictured here with Secretary Cortés is Vivísimo's CEO Raúl Valdés.

On Monday we went to a "Phat Camp" (Phat standing for "Praise Him All Together")

Us Team Cardiff girls, all got together and worked at double quick speed, working as a team making some name badges: cutting, writing, assembling with the metal-badge-maker machine. It was awesome stuff.

I was pretty much bossing all the girls around and taking credit for it all [not]... heh.

And then Mel and I dished them out to all the small group leaders. All that was left were badges for my small group. So I copied Mel. She had all her badges attached to her t-shirt, more or less on her belly area [a baggy t-shirt nonetheless]. I, on the other hand, wearing a [slightly] fitted tee, attached it above my bosoms. [not on tho! yep, check the photo out].

And I went to a nearby table shortly after this photo was taken, during dinner time, to try and hunt down kids from my team.

Only I made the mistake. I asked:

"Hey do you guys all have your name badges?"

"No..." say a load of boys.

"Can you see your name on my chest?"

It was only then did I realise what I had JUST asked these teenage boys. There they were, eyes goggling on my chest. And I went bright red, and tried to dig and cover my ludicrous mistake of telling them to find their name badges ON my chest! I pulled my tee out... and stated dumbly "Ok... maybe not... Moving on".

And then I quickly ran back to my cardiff girls and they all roared with laughter at my stupidity of getting the boys to find their names on my chest. Only Ansy would do such a thing...!

AND I had my camera, with strap put ACROSS my bosoms (like you would do with a bag... across the chest type of thing)...

Sigh... Never again. The cardiff girls just laughed at me and my stupidity.

So I put off all these badges, and just placed them on my palms and continued to walk round [post embarrassment] hunting down my group members...!!!

As a typical girl, I love shoes. I just do.

I remember when I was 13 and I turned up to school with a pair of shoes like these ones (my taste in dolly shoes still remain), and people looked at me funny. In those days being a 13 year old you had to conform to any pattern, just-to-fit in. But I guess there was an element of me, just a little bit that didn't really care. We call this individualism. And at 13 it had just about started. I just didn't care if my shoes looked odd and didn't fit in. They were cool. And I'll have you know, as I grew up, people accepted that I was different, and I could just about get away with anything.

Today I don't give a damn if I'm different.

I'm Chinese. A Christian. Short and slightly overweight. And I don't give a damn. There's just one of me.

Next we took the Secretary to the heart of downtown Pittsburgh to visit Allegheny County Excecutive, Dan Onorato. Mr. Onorato is a great friend of the Chamber and we are very grateful for the time that he gave us.

Home to Richard and Phil in my time) who were both sterling chaps in my book, although, always favouring the girls.

The sight of it sends shudders down my spine. Ansys, Ice PIC and Pascal.

...Now I just have to wait....

This was another idea I had for April Fool's Day today. But the other idea won. I figured I'd still shoot this because, man, I love April Fool's Day. Totally. Sure, nobody likes to be fooled with. I certainly don't (oh but back in high school there were always jokes played around! Like when someone unscrewed the salt-shaker at the cafeteria, and I just so happened to be the unlucky victim and I pour the whole salt-shaker contents onto my meal... nasty stuff! Or when the guys put vaseline on the 6th form door handles. Yucks. or or or .. etc.)

Jokes are fun though. You gotta admit to it. As long as nobody gets hurt. Jokes are fun. And I love playing tricks. Just part of my nature. A humour nature at that :)

This is exactly why the kids love me. (Or so I think).

i tried not to get close enough to bother them, but they headed into the trees as i approached.

The Guards went to the little-boys'-room, so I took charge.

Then... a couple of hours later, like the following day... the body was gone! The Guards swear they saw nobody come, I can also assure you that nobody came too, when I was guarding... It's simply impossible to escape this tomb! There are NO other exits, except for the one that I guarded... no holes whatsoever! That's crazy!

What did happen to the body?

Today is the first day of Chinese New Year. Typically it'd be a three-day spectacular (in China / Hong Kong), but because we're in UK not much happens these days except for private functions and parties that people throw amongst their own friends.

However, the first Sunday of the CNY is always a biggie.

Mother goes nutzo in our household. She goes all out and decorates the whole house, it's almost like Christmas, take two. But only everything isn't green and red, but rather red and gold!!!

This is just one of the many many golden nuggets that we have in this house. She's got hundreds. What can I say, typically Chinese people love money. My mother is a typical Chinese woman.

My brother has this hat thing, that's technically Tommy Cooper's hat. I was meant to do a Tommy Cooper, but found when trying it on I looked more like an air-hostess!

And then I remembered Ally saying I looked like one when I wore this dress and suit-combo ages ago.

So... that was pretty sorted, fancy-dress-wise! haha... Dang I've missed dressing up.

But sorry viewers, I don't know if I'll be able to do many more. The future is uncertain... Hmmm!

Air-hostesses are awesome! Even though they work long long shifts [well, I usually fly to places that mean long-haul flights], yet they are still v. patient, so kind and hold up so well and don't "appear" tired. I always assumed, since young, they were all terminators...! But then once, when I was upstairs on the 797 (oh yeeeh.... upgrade....! I have contacts that work at the HK airport!) I remember catching one of the two air-hostesses that were serving us businessclass/first class folks upstairs, snoozing...! Secrets out...! They have power naps.. and take it in turns... amazing...!

Anyway. Truth be told, I have a contingency plan for life. During my degree Ally and I both had these plans, just in case we failed our degree. And for me, one of them was to become an air-hostess.

Only I'm a little too short and can't "quite" reach the hand-baggage compartments, well I can, but can't get to it as elegantly as the actual air-hostesses. But I figured, I could easily work for airlines in Hong Kong with my aunts.... After all, I once did my A-Level work experience at the Hong Kong airport... So...

Half symmetric model of a Heat Exchanger analysis in ANSYS Mechanical APDL

Today, a Sunday, was a pretty good day. But today, I finally felt something different.

That somehow and for some reason, some people look up to me. Just like I used to look up to my previous youth leaders.

I find it difficult to comprehend. And it's taken me a long long time to accept it. For the past couple of weeks especially when certain individuals make it obvious.

But I thought about this today and remembered reuniting last week with two people I used to look up to (but I still kinda do today): Bert and Phan. Then I finally accepted it.

That people look up to a silly fool like me.

The candle was a left-over candle from ages ago that I managed to save and keep.

Then I took a billion shots before the heart burned out... Wow. What a cute metaphor.

All for love

I've been reading Do Ants Have Arseholes?: And 101 Other Bloody Ridiculous Questions recently.

And a question that has got me seriously thinking, is the one I stole for today's title.

It's a good question. And it's true, why on earth do socks go missing when in the wash?! I secretly think there's a black hole in the washing machine that purposefully swallows socks just to stop the two pairs reconciling after their wash-cycle.

It has to be. Then where else do all those single socks disappear? Exactly.

Hurray hurray. Well done to all that tried to guess and play with the small number of clues I shared for the "Where's Ansy" game!

And a HUGE well done to whitenviro, ladylouise62 and Wam Mosely. These three folks got it right!

That's right! I'm in Taiwan....!

I didn't get a chance to share clues such as:

- Lots and lots of laptops are made here.

- The craaaazy number of earthquakes that happen here.

- Taiwan being an island.

- Taiwan also sounding very similar to Thailand [there were a few folks back at home thought I said Thailand and not Taiwan].

There were loads of other stuff, like some historical. But didn't quite get there. But I didn't plan too much, just let the clue-inspiration hit me as I discover more and more about the culture and Taiwanese life here by the day.

So I'm in Taiwan. Not in Taipei. I'd continue with the game and get you all to guess which city, but I can't be bothered right now. I'm in the second biggest city of Taiwan, that's "Koahsiung". So that's cool.

There are many many reasons why I'm here in Taiwan and not somewhere else like Hong Kong [how easy that would be!], or ShangHai etc. But I won't share right now, maybe some other time... Loadsa reasons why I'm in Taiwan, and why God TOLD me to come here... Too many. It seems to be the case when you ask God where you should go, earnestly, He shows you and makes a way [or a few miracles!] for it to happen! Will share on this later no doubt.

So I'll continue to share my stories, so don't worry! I'm gunna be stuck here for a while, so I'm afraid I won't have any other stories except for my Taiwanese-living-stories.... so hear me out!

Thanks for sticking by even though I haven't been visiting your photostream too recently. Am still settling in and stuff [I kinda have a daily routine established... but there's so much more to do.... not quite settled yet!] I will be sure to come visit your stream soon! So sorry!

But yah. I'm in Taiwan. I'm also feeling extremely hot right now too.

Mickey Leland intern Danielle Price working at her desk with ANSYS software.

I thought I was suffering with heat rash. But as it turns out, no, it's not. It's actually bites from bed bugs and mites. Because I'm sleeping on the floor [nice wooden floor boards underneath] I'm guessing there are all sorts of stuff biting at me [also because I am not a local and have a different scent, blood, flesh type in general!]

So I finally went and hunted down some mothballs and scattered them allover my room, and namely around the bed. I know apparently it's toxic stuff. But it's in a packet so that's as safe as I am going to get. What's worse? Dying from the smell or being bitten alive? Hah. Being bitten alive is by far the worst! [first you get itchy, then your skin gets all red, and then it gets spotty, then you can't stop itching it, and you can't sleep because you're itching it, and then somewhere down the line it starts producing this liquid, and then it gets crusty, and then still itchy... yeh. you catch my drift]

I'd show you, but it's all too ugly to show. (the mark on my knee is merely a bruise from my luggage].

So yeh. Moth balls. I'm stinking out my whole room [it claimed to have a lavender smell.. it lies! it lies!] and now my temporary housemates I'm staying with, aren't all too keen on the smell... hmm! oh well! I have bites all over my arms and backs of legs...! I no longer care!

Mel and I decided to do some constructive things for this summer. We've already started with project number one (still need to get extra stuff though), so that's been put on hold.

But Mel and I finally started project number two on Monday!

We're refurbishing an old wendy house that has been left in our church hall, neglected and in dire need of tender loving care. So perhaps it could be paid more attention from the kids whenever we had play session at church :)

We stripped it's walls of the 5 layers of wallpaper. And finally last night we had finished stripping and steaming the walls (hurray for the wall-paper-steamer machine!!! so much fun!) we finally got out the paint, brushes and rollers! yay! (dip also came by to help out yesterday too).

But it's been fun so far! With the inside four walls painted, we need to continue to redo the exterior and cover it with new brick wallpaper :)

It's a work in progress :)

I really wanted to get a fun shot like this for the 365...! Using paint sort of thing. Yay! I had a chance to do it last night! Also, thanks to dip who was my human tripod for this shot!

Pictured here is PMAHCC board member, Carmen Malloy with a colleague from Dominion.

Some really bizarre food stuff in this country.

This was taken yesterday evening. I was with Debaroh (also another newb to the country, same process as I! possibly my future roomie until we find a place to stay).

We went out for dinner, and found some random hot-pot place. And as it turned out, it was an all-you-can-eat hot-pot place!

I kept grabbing all the seafood I could ever wish for. And this is one of the lil small mini squids that I cooked in the hotpot, and it's awesome how the legs just shrivel like the way seen in the photo.

So yep.

The food is amazing here. I hart it. There's so many different cuisines. But this is one of the many.

But the seafood. Oh my days. I haven't had much meat, but I've certainly had some veg but mainly seafood stuff. Awesomeness.

Yeh. Food is delicious here. But I'm still kinda weary [a little] because I have a sensitive stomach. But so far so good. No bad toilet hugging/toilet-sitting-hogging sessions YET. If anything, I need to drink more water cos I'm a little constipated. Hah. [Sorry if you're just so happening to be eating atm while reading. Whoops.]

This is part of the "Where's Ansy?" game. If you know me in reality, please do not ruin the fun for all my flickr friends, and blurt out dumbly the location I am currently in... If you do, I will think of something really terrible to do to you

Or should I rephrase, "How many fingers AND thumbs am I holding up?" for those politically correct freaks out there who are so inflexible with their words, and by jove, no way, we should never call thumbs fingers too. Oh no no no.

I dare you to count. View it large if you must.

And I wonder if you can figure out why I've got X amount of fingers [and thumbs] up for you to count, for today....

so, ok, I think I'm starting to develop quite a collection of hand/finger shots... Hmm. Maybe I do have an unhealthy fixation on fingers and hands.... so much so I should start a new set dedicated for these shots. I think so.

Friday was a complete and utter BUSY day! The day started at 2:00pm for me [to start school], and finished at 9:00pm [my first longest day ever, there will be more of these, but I guess it was a little shock to the system!--but just observing lessons].

And just as I was about to pack up ready to go home, someone asks me if I wanted to go bible-study. And because I was actually not all that exhausted-surprisingly, I agreed cos I figured... sounds like a good idea. And it was a good idea. I thoroughly enjoyed it (although it was bible study with a group of older-generation folks, but they were highly educated, either retired professors or still in that profession... They were there to improve their English AND learn about the bible)... It was awesome stuff. I'm so going back there! (Plus they all want me to go back too....!)

And then I get dragged by stephen to a Games Cafe, which ended up being amazing and so much fun where a few of the church-folk hang out and play games...

And then we got back at about 1am -ish...

Only my story doesn't end there. Stephen is a scary scooter-rider. He drove so fast after the games cafe session to go home.

And my hair went crazy. and I got back looking like this.

Yes reader. I am always one scared scooter-passenger. I'm currently doubling up with people [as a passenger] and hitching rides with the people I know to places I don't know how to get to otherwise. Mainly to church, meetings, and to school [conveniently Stephen also teaches at the same school, and so does Cliff, a neighbour, also fellow-church goer.]

But yeh. I recall my first time riding a scooter. It was actually to the school, for the interview [I accepted the job offer after the weekend!]

And it was Cliff's wife who took me there. And she just laughed so much at me because I was holding onto her waist for dear life as she drove the scooter [even though she was driving very slow as not to scare me... it felt fast for me!]

And since then I've been okish. My second time was better. I learnt that there is usually a bar at the back of the scooter to hold onto, because if God-forbid there was an accident, it's better to hold onto that bar than to the driver's waist because I could fly off with them...

Anyway. I've kinda gotten used to being on a scooter. But there are moments when I get surprised and get scared because the traffic is a nightmare in this city, and because it rains heavily....

I'm sure in time I'll get used to the traffic, and in time, when I am more confident I may pick up the skill of riding a scooter.

Believe me, riding a bike is more dangerous than riding a scooter. And walking is totally out of the question too.

And the public transport service isn't that great either too.

Anyway, but God has made me trust him more, with being here, and having to ride at the back of someone's scooter. Every time I sit on one, I pray a silent prayer that I can survive the journey and that no accidents will happen.

Anyway... Everyone rides a scooter here. It feels like there are more scooters than cars. Bikes are totally unheard of... Well there are a few. But not that many....

This is part of the "Where's Ansy?" game. If you know me in reality, please do not ruin the fun for all my flickr friends, and blurt out dumbly the location I am currently in... If you do, I will think of something really terrible to do to you

So recently, I finally diagnosed myself, after a long time of self-evaluating.

I am not the extrovert everyone labels me as.

Typically, people take one look at me, and say “Who Ansy? Like duh, she’s obviously an extrovert!” And maybe because of that, I’ve gotten that all through out my life. People labeling for me, what I am: an extrovert, clearly.

I don't think I properly realised what the whole ordeal with extrovert/introvert thing was about. I just thought, if you were a people person you’re therefore an extrovert, as in, you like big groups of people, you like people in general. And then if you don’t really like people, therefore you’re an introvert, you dislike big groups, you don’t like people in general.

Yes, those seem to fit the explanation for the two groups. However. It wasn’t until my friend mentioned a few months ago, when she asked the small group class, what each person was. And she explained it to them, and basically it was “Where do you get your energy from? From spending time with people? Or being alone?”

And when it was phrased like that, I didn’t know anymore.

And for some time I had a mini-crisis in my own head. What the heck am I?!

Then after several months of analysis. I have concluded that I am, in fact, NOT an extrovert. But rather an introvert. Let me explain.

I grew up in a large, unusually large family [for today's day and age]. And naturally, when you have a large number of people in your family, communication is always present right? Well, being as I’m the youngest daughter, the one-but-last youngest sibling, obvious all my older sisters would speak before me. And then in an outside of the family setting, like say, within a group of friends, obviously I wanna exert my voice out louder, I’m not heard at home, so I wanna be heard outside in the world, where people listen, and people care [not that my family don't care. But who'd listen to the youngest-but-one sibling?!]

And so, I’ve realised, despite having lots of people at home, from a young age. We all had our alone time, doing whatever. We always did. And even though I like to be in fun atmosphere, people type of atmosphere, who doesn’t? We always did have some alone time now and then. And when my sisters all gradually moved out one-by-one, I even managed to claim my own personal space = my room, for a few good years as I was growing up. So that was good. And because of that, maybe because of that I developed enjoying spending time by myself. And once in a while I’d spend some time with the mother. Or whatever. But generally, she’d enjoy her own time in front of the tv. But when she’d need me, I’d see what would be the matter. It was all ok. But generally, usually a lot of alone time.

But I’ve always felt, that whenever I hang out with people, I end up getting a lot of energy anyway. Or maybe I’ve had a lot of energy stored up from the time alone, and then I explode it all with the people. But I certainly do know when I get tired of people. I start getting upset over things and whatever. But then I cool off somewhere, like the bathroom for a few minutes, or even just going to help out in the kitchen away from the large group etc. Even before, walking home from the Sims Residence, was a nice quiet time to spend alone, to cool down and get more energy.

And well, here in Taiwan, I never knew that. Assuming I was still an extrovert, I lived life. But some days I would be so tired from people, I’d withdraw, become a hermit, and feel a whole lot better all over again.

Thus I have concluded. I am an introvert, though I have extrovert tendencies. I am more closer to being an extrovert than an extreme introvert. But I’m not extreme extrovert either. Oh my, I’ve met a few here. It’s crazy. And I don’t get them. So yeh. I’m an introvert, but have been trained to handle extrovert environments due to family and friends.

Cool huh?

What are you? And why?

This morning during the wee early hours of the night, just before 0100am, God got angry.

Luckily it didn't hit my city, I'm too far down south to feel anything. But apparently a few places in Wales felt it. Still, we didn't get hit as bad as say Sheffield, Grimsby, Newcastle Yorkshire, London, Cumbria, the Midlands, and Norfolk. Yikes.

My heart goes out to all of them.

Honestly didn't feel a single thing. Maybe it was because I was watching a movie then and also had my headphones on? Couldn't hear any rattling. If it was that bad my candles in my room would've moved around (causing a fire?!) So thank God Wales wasn't hit as bad.

So here's my take on it, kinda like 12 hours after the earthquake.

It's crazy to think that even UK can have earthquakes. Clearly only bigger places that lie on the plate boundaries experience earthquakes, right? Well obviously not. Even UK can get affected. Crazy. Anything can happen on this world. This world is so unpredictable. God is so unpredictable.

And before we know it the sun may stop shining one day. And that'll be the apocalypse. Or Armageddon. Or something.
