While flipping through my Lightroom catalogue in search of an image for Window Wednesday I stumbled upon this oldie from November 2018 which I'd taken during a very nice photowalk with Flickr friends. Somehow, this photo felt finally "ready for upload", but I also knew that if I don't process and upload it today, I probably won't do so tomorrow, because it's possible that that "ready moment" has passed by then. Weird, I know, but that's the way it sometimes is ;) This is why I post the image already today.

The image shows the river Spree and the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus (MELH) in Berlin's Government district. I've already posted a slightly different photo taken at the same photowalk earlier; I'd taken that photo from the bridge that you can see on the left. You can find it in the first comment, in my description for that photo you'll also find more info on the MELH, if you are interested. While I (re-)processed the image this evening, I was humming Patti Smith's song "Poeple Have The Power" to myself (I wonder why...Freud would know), and I thought it would be an apt title for an image showing a governmental building ;)

Happy Window Wednesday, Everyone, and Happy Hump Day as well :)

.. or the start of my photo half marathon in a very cool city .. enjoy and happy Tuesday my friends :)

I just checked the weather forecast and it seems that we might be getting snow in the northern New England region this week, so I think the fall is almost over. It's end of October after all. So I just wanted to share some more foliage color from my recent trip to New Haven, CT. Not sure what tree is that but it has a wonderful magenta color. And since there is a window in the background, i think it makes a perfect photo for a Wednesday upload. HWW everybody!

.. the walk continued .. happy Window Wednesdays m friends :)

My big baby girl. She has always been a thinker and I love to watch her ponder and process the world around her. Her revelations, always so clear, pure, and untainted by life. It was here in Island Harbour, she found clarity and peace, and a pace of life she desires. As we left this island, her eyes welled up, and like her mom, she vowed to return.

I love this photo because it reminds me of this place and what it meant to her.

Wishing you all a wonderful end to your week and yeah...sorry for the sappy mom loves!

The welcomes are not quite the same right now but they are still happening. Lots of FaceTime happening in this house, delivery of treats left on doorsteps, and emails with old friends. Ironically, staying in has made us all a little more social.

Hope you're all doing great, staying in, and your welcomes still happen but in a different kind of way!

.. found in Rotterdam .. happy Window Wednesdays my friends :)

.. one final picture from Copenhagen .. happy weekend my friends :)

I love colour. I love it even more when it is bold and used in a unique colour scheme.

I drove by this house twice before I stopped. It's just one of those places where all the pieces fit together to make the ordinary become extraordinary.

Bold, brave, and beautiful. It totally stole my heart.

.... and a slight tilt that way and a boring office building looks like a ool piece of abstract art. HFF

Converging verticals at the Potsdamer Platz, from left to right: Sony Center, BahnTower (103 m / 338 ft), Kollhoff Tower (101 m / 331 ft), Sony Center. For more info about Sony Center, please check my previous photo (in the first comment).

BahnTower, which houses the holding of the Deutsche Bahn (German railway company), is part of the Sony Center building ensemble. Like the latter it was opened in 2000. In later years, BahnTower also gained a certain notoriety, because on several occasions glass elements from the façade fell onto the pavement (in 2007 and 2008), and in 2016 a glass panel fell onto a car driving by. Luckily, no one was injured in any of the incidents. I should admit that when I took this photo, I didn't think of the aforementioned incidents, or otherwise I might have kept more of a distance to BahnTower ;)

Kollhof-Tower right across was opened in 1999. Its brick façade and general design were inspired by early 20th century high-rise architecture. The tower is named after its architect Hans Kollhoff. On the top level of Kollhoff-Tower is a viewing platform which offers a really nice view over Berlin, and I can highly recommend a visit. The passenger lift that takes people to the top level is the fastest passenger lift in Europe, transporting the passengers at 8,65 metres per second. Not exactly Warp speed, but fast enough to give you that wobbly feeling in the stomach ;)

Photo taken with the GRIII and the GW-4 wide-angle adapter attached which exceeds the GRIII's native 28mm to 21mm. The final image is made from a three image exposure bracketing combined in HDR Efex.

Happy Window Wednesday, Everyone!

.. or a relaxed afterwork stroll .. enjoy :)

View down the central funnel inside of the Reichstag dome on top of the Reichstag building, the seat of the German parliament (the Bundestag). The funnel is a so-called "light-diverting element" with mirrors that guides diffuse daylight into the plenary hall of the German Bundestag ten meters below and also serves as an exhaust "pipe" that deflects used air from the plenary hall through the 10-meter-wide central opening at the apex of the dome (which you can't see here).

For whatever reason the checked "pattern" of the reflective windows on the funnel's base (theoretically one could take a look into the plenary hall) always reminds me of a gambling table at a casino, hence the title which I've borrowed from one of the best James Bond movies (and I also like the 1967 parody). But of course, there's nothing "royale" or "gambling-ish" about this profoundly democratic place (which, as you know, it hasn't always been). Surrounding the funnel's base you can find the permanent exhibition "From the Reichstag to the Bundestag" which tells the eventful history of the Reichstag building from its beginnings to the present day.

Happy Window Wednesday, Everyone :)

So often I get inspired from my contacts' photos.

This happened with a recent post from my dear flickr friend in Maine . . . but after I shot this, I realized I need to add some more greens! Note my collection of shells and vases are mostly from Maine!

HWW!!

This is the Austonian at 200 Congress Ave. here in Austin. This place is amazing. It has 56 floors and the average price is 800 dollars a square foot. Which means, the smallest unit goes for about a million dollars.

... the passage of time and the wild and wild spring were in charge of almost completely covering the old windows of this old abandoned country house ...

A little house in Island Harbour. Abandoned but still standing and just waiting for some TLC.

Remember that small town I told you about with only 10 to 15 houses. The one where if you are fiddling with the car controls or the radio you will miss the town entirely. Well, I forgot to mention that there is also this very nice United Methodist Church. So this little bump in the road has about 15 houses and a fairly large church. It is located near the town of Mulch in Richmond County, Virginia. The church celebrated it’s 150th anniversary in 2021. The corner stone on the building says 1869. HWW!

.. found in Den Haag .. happy Sunday my friends :)

Have a colourful day HWW

When we were staying in our Paris flat in September, this was the view out the apartment window, across the courtyard.

Nothing better than a Bear and some window light. We really have no agendas here. Well mine is working on my music, but the Bears have nothing really to do.

Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday

I don’t think this house is abandoned, but I haven’t seen anyone around when I drive by. It needs some work and a new paint job. The chimney is broken and the roof is patched, but it looks like it is free of leaks. The back porch is in poor shape. However, the lawn is mowed and the property is not covered with junk. I think that is a good sign that it is being lived in. HWW

This grand piano won't produce any other sounds than that of cracking wood any more – it's a mere wooden hull, the keyboard and the strings are long gone. But perhaps the sound of this grand piano, played by invisible hands, is inaudible only to us, and every night at 12, when the clock strikes the witching hour, the spirits of the sanatorium meet there for the grand ball...

Another one from the abandoned lung sanatorium somewhere near Berlin. It was the first sanatorium for pulmonary tuberculosis in northern Germany and was founded by the German Red Cross in 1896. After the Second World War, from 1945–1995, the building complex was used as a Soviet military hospital (note the Russian slogan above the stage; unfortunately, I'm unable to read it). I have no idea what's it about the painted cross on the floor (or is is a hopscotch pattern?)...
