I remember as a kid the wonder I had about trains, where they were going and the stories painted on their sides.

The Fence and The Farmers Field......

Yesterday was a glorious sunny warm day uncharacteristically so for November, the mercury hit 22 degrees Celsius; that's almost 73 F for my american friends.

We found ourselves on the caledon trailway which runs east and west across the lower Caledon highlands.

We ventured off the main trail just beyond the old train bridge making our way along the river's edge, along the bank is an outcropping of evergreens, we climbed the bank and came to an opening where the park meets a local farmers field. this is a shot of the fence that marks the property line.

Dark In The Park 2....

From the archives

One morning in February I headed out very early, as overnight a light dusting of fresh snow had fallen. there was a white coating of snow on everything.

in the pale glow of the street lights the snow glistened and the playground looked eerily empty and bare.

The Departure...

It was Literally golden hour, not only because it was that time of day but because the light through the fall trees shone with an iridescent yellow glow, bathing everything in a cool golden haze.

The view from the exit from Heart Lake was enhanced by the autumn colours; which had burst upon the scene over the past few cold days of early fall. Karen was walking ahead of me and the sun glinted through the heavy foliage and she was suddenly awash in brilliant yellow light. it was a picture perfect moment.

Caledon Trailways.....

From the archives.

Early In November 2020 the weather was glorious, sunny and warm uncharacteristically so for November, the mercury hit 22 degrees Celsius; that's almost 73 F for my American friends.

We found ourselves on the caledon trailway which runs east and west across the lower Caledon highlands.

The Trailway is popular with cyclists and hikers alike. the traliway extends for over 35 kilometers starting just north of Schomberg and ends just east of Inglewood, the trail follows the path of a former CN rail line, originally built in 1877 by the Hamilton & North Western Railway. It was the first officially-designated part of the Trans Canada Trail (now called The Great Trail). this is one of the many old repurposed train bridges and trestles that have become part of the

Caledon trailway

Classic In Yellow...

From The Archives;

This shot of a stormy summer day at Jack Darling Park in August of 2018, the sky was brooding and rain was just starting to fall, people quickly started to packing up and heading to their cars. within minutes the once crowded beach was empty

A few classic cars from a classic car club had parked at the beach along the main strip of the park. i snapped this shot of this really cool yellow 1931 model A.

The Crossing.

This is a photo taken December 2017, a severe winter storm blanketed the province with record snowfalls in February of that year.

Karen and I love winter and find that you get the most amazing photos after a big snowstorm. everything is pure white and looks remarkably clean and unspoiled.

March Begins...

A sudden unexpected snowstorm hit Brampton last night and left everything covered in snow. the groundhog was wrong again. in like a lamb out like a lion. well this time it is in like a lion out like a lamb i guess.

As usual i took advantage of the situation and got out for a few shots. It was absolutely gorgeous out ,except the snow was very heavy and wet and a little too slippery; which made me take each step intentionally so i wouldn't end up going for a fall.

The Icy River..

A heavy snow fell Saturday night covering everything with a thick layer of fresh fluffy white snow. We got up early and headed to the park where we found ourselves in a scene from the movie Narnia; snow was falling from the branches above every time the wind blew. at times it was as if it was still snowing... with so much snow falling from the heavy laden branches overhead.

We worked our way through the park and found ourselves walking across the frozen river; we could hear the crack and creak of the ice straining under our feet, we know that the water at this point is only a few inches deep this time of year so no worries about falling through the ice.

Home United Church Horse Barn...

Last week we hopped in the car just before dusk and chased a golden sunset across farmers fields and down rural roads... it flitted behind thick dark clouds and blasted through thin wispy ones. till it fell just beyond the horizon out of reach of my camera lens. It was the crowning glory to an outstanding spring day.

As we drove by Home united church on the corner of Creditview and Mayfield Rd the sun illuminated the intersection in a swath of golden yellow haze. yet behind us the moon was shining brilliantly in the glow of the sunset...

The history of the church in this community dates from the year 1829. ln the early pioneer days the Counties of Peel and York were known as the Home District; hence the name of the place of worship in this area from early days received the name of Home Church. A Scotchman from Alloa in Scotland, who built a saw mill on the farm where this present church stands, named the little settlement Alloa, after his home-town. There was also a post-office in a store, a butcher shop, a slaughter house, a blacksmith and carriage shop, 2 hotels and several dwellings. (Excerpt from www.homeunitedchurch.ca/about/history.html

Taking Shelter From The Leaves...

The first snowfall for Winter 2019 was a few inches of white powder and temperatures in the low -10 degrees celsius. this is at first a shock to the system, but we are a hardy bunch us Canadians; we shake it off, put on our hats, coats and scarfs and head outdoors.

These shots are us cominig to terms with another six months of overcast skies and temperatures cold enough to freeze skin on contact. this will not keep us indoors or scare us into the deep south to escape winters frosty grip. This is us saying cheers!! to another lovely winter. camera in hand,i will be out there..

Die Brücke ist hier wohl die vernünftigste Lösung.

Für eine Fähre ist das Gewässer zu klein und schwimmen ist verboten.

This lake is too small for a ferry and swimming is not allowed. So the idea of building a bridge came up. The color goes well with the landscape.

Lake Crossing...

On the last day of February we made our way to Heart Lake and spend a few hours braving the cold to get some shots.

When we got to the lake the wind was fierce from the west and the chill bit deep into our cheeks. even making our eyes sting and water up.

in the distance crossing the frozen lake, were two men who didn't seem to concerned about the thickness of the ice or the freezing cold wind that swept down on them on the open icy lake.

A break from Canada.... (still loads more to come)

This one was a lot closer to home though..

On Sunday evening, our Church held an outdoor service at a local park, and afterwards I took a walk down to the side of the lake and unto the pier.

I thought this one turned out quite nice :)

I hope you're all having a wonderful week.. We had a deluge of rain yesterday, but the sun is out again today, so I'm smiling :)

Thank you for checking out my work and for all the lovely comments on yesterday's Duffey Lake photo :)

Speeding Streetcar..

In August 2016 we took a trip downtown toronto and spent the day wandering the streets taking photos of the things, one of the things we saw was this speeding streetcar which blew past us. i have posted shots of this before but this time i edited it slightly differently.
