Mid December in the ponds and gardens at Dinah's Garden Hotel in Palo Alto, California. I have been the landscape designer here for the past 12 years now :-)

Time flies !!!!

Textures found walking round the village, none very inspiring - keeping away from plants / flowers and insects made it much more difficult for me. Luckily I didn't wait until Sunday as it was dull, and rained or drizzled for most of the day.

Using a long exposure and several photos at different speeds, I transformed falling water into smooth, silky streams. The composition frames multiple cascades to create a rhythmic flow, while maintaining the wild energy of the forest setting.

Another pic taken this weekend at the event.

I'll be needing to get back to an old series that's been beckoning me for some time now....

Another fab idea for courtyard design. Love the simplicity of it and the colours work so well together.

Just a quick post and run from my weekend trip to West Virginia. Since we were only about 20 miles from Swallow Falls State Park, good friends Jason Haley, Randy Sanger and myself decided to head up there for a little bit. Little did we realize we were going to see the largest swirl we'd ever seen. Have a great Waterfall Wednesday!

I'm sorry if you can't comment folks, I'm not sure what has happened here, it's some kooky Flickr glitch. As always, if you can, thank you and also thank you everyone for the favorites! It is much appreciated!

One of the main attractions of Gardens by the Bay ecological park are the two giant climate controlled conservatories, known as the Cloud Forest with its 35 meter waterfall, as well as the Flower Dome. Within these huge green houses one can find facinating plant species from all over the world, from venus fly traps to an almost unlimited variety of orchids. This beautiful park reaffirms Singapore's reputation as the Garden City.

Frederiksborg Slot (or castle in English), located in Hillerød, Denmark, is renowned for its stunning formal gardens and water features. The gardens are a blend of Baroque and Romantic styles, each offering unique beauty and charm.

Baroque Garden

The Baroque garden, designed by Johan Cornelius Krieger in the early 18th century, is symmetrically laid out with perfectly straight hedges and meticulously trimmed box trees. The garden features:

Royal Monograms: The lowest plateaus display the royal monograms of Frederik IV, Frederik V, Christian VI, and Margrethe II, designed in closely trimmed hedges.

Central Water Feature: A cascading water feature runs down the central axis of the terraced garden, adding a serene and elegant touch.

Café Havehuset: Located in the upper, northernmost part of the garden, this half-timbered, thatched building serves as a café during the summer months.

Romantic Garden

To the left of the Baroque garden lies the Romantic garden, designed to convey moods and present the beauty of nature. This garden includes:

Small Lakes and Shrubberies: The garden features small lakes and shrubberies, creating a more informal and natural landscape.

Bath House Castle: A charming small castle known as the Bath House, adding to the garden's picturesque appeal.

Overall Atmosphere

The combination of the formal Baroque garden with its precise lines and symmetry, and the more relaxed Romantic garden with its natural elements, creates a harmonious and visually appealing environment. The gardens are a perfect backdrop for a leisurely stroll, photography, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature.

I can't choose between the pics... Give me a bit of help?

* I don't know that Asian guy on the opposite corner of the pool. He's just staring...

During migration I am fortunate enough to be able to see these little black and white warblers in my yard. Normally they stick to the trees but I have to say they love the addition of the pond, especially boggy creek. Although, this little guy likes to visit the Dove Creek side as well.

When I don't have the camera this little one will come and sit on the bistro table over looking Boggy Creek, he will bounce around all over Dove Creek side and investigate the rocks and foliage.

He is such a playful little guy, he even came to a table I recently added near my swing near Dove Creek and sat there staring at me while I was on the swing. I really wanted to reach out and touch him since he was within arms length at that time but I resisted the temptation because I don't want him to be afraid of me.

When I have the camera and he wants to come and play in the creek, he will visit all of the above mentioned areas, only he does it much more quickly. Then he will go and hide behind the rock in this image and peek over then duck behind it, over and over again. If I make a move, he will leave but if I sit quietly he will go about his business of getting a bath and teasing me. Perhaps one day he will become accustom to my camera and allow me to take a proper photo of him.

This church has been photographed many times but few show how lovely the area is or people enjoying the lawn area, so I’m happy with my results.
