"Welcome"
I always wanted to do a project in photography but never started one. Initially thought of starting a 365 days project i.e making one photograph daily for 1 full year. It might sound easy but it truly is a test of dedication and one of the most difficult projects. So i have decided to kickstart a 52-week project. This is similar to the 365 days project requires you to make one photo per week and not so hard as 365 days project. My theme for this project is "TOY Photography" or "Photographing Toys". I love toys and photography so thought of blending both.
Here is the first photograph of the week, "Welcome" to 52-weeks project

After Betsy passed away we knew that eventually we had a empty bed to fill in our little home. Of course there still is some grief left but we thought the time was there to go and visit some adoptable cats. We thought we'd just go and take a look at what's out there.
This saturday we went to a organisation called Wetland Cats in Gouderak near Gouda. This organisation houses around 260 cats that where abandoned, impopular at the shelter, almost put to sleep for no reason by their previous owners or just regular stray cats. Some of these cats are semi-wild or even agressive to humans and therefore not up for adoption.
Another thing that they do at this wonderful place is offering another organisation temporary housing for stray cats from Romania. These cats get rescued from certain death on the streets of Romania and then nutured, chipped and vaccinated before they travel to Wetland Cats. There they are put up for adoption.
Once we where in the shelter for the Romanian cats our attention was drawn by a little black cat. She was really petit and purring as loud as she could. once my girlfriend picked her up she started te pur even louder and climbed on her shoulders to give little licks and other signs of affection. Needless to say my girlfriend was sold. With Betsy really being my girls cat is was more important that the cat liked her then me. But she is also very, very friendly to me too.
She is just one year old (Born 03-03-2017, estimated) and really petit. Because of her gentle and soft character we decided to go with Flanelleke as her name. This because the fabric flanel also is very soft and warming. Her official name however is Komo Flanel, a hint to Coco Chanel as well as to her previous life on the streets with Komo being a well known brand of black plastic trash bags.
Whe we came home she immediatly came out of the travel basket, leaving Chupa and Tickel a bit puzzled over who this little gal was. But she has great cat manners and even after just 46 hours I think it is safe to say thet she fits right in. They even played together yesterday evening!

Note: this photo is my "main" (i.e. very last to be uploaded) photo out of the three I've posted this morning. I uploaded the other two first and then uploaded this main image separately, to see if that makes any difference. I did try doing it a couple of times this way weeks ago and seem to remember that there was something I didn't like with the result, but can't for the life of me remember what it was, ha. Hopefully, Flickr (or something else) won't change the order of the way you see my photos displayed!
Happy 1st August, everyone! Here in Canada, it is a long weekend, as Monday is Heritage Day in Alberta, an occasion to celebrate the heritage of the peoples of the province. The origins of the holiday on the first Monday in August each year seem to go back to a “day of recreation” first organized by Toronto City Council in 1869.
This photo was taken last Wednesday, 29 July 2015, when I called in at the Reader Rock Garden after a volunteer shift. Summer is flying by and I wanted to take a whole batch of bright, colourful flower photos ready to post during the seven or eight cold "winter" months. It was so disappointing to find very little still in bloom! Many plants had already finished and had been cut down and a lot of the flowers that were left were past their prime. However, I did still manage to get some photos, including of this opening Echinacea bud - love these flowers. It had rained during the afternoon and some of the pathways were quite slippery. Also, the powerful sprinklers were turned on when I was still there and I was rather wet by the time I reached the exit! The things we photographers go through to get some of our photos, lol!
The forecast for this afternoon is 28C, a very slight improvement over yesterday, when it reached 31C. I was out all day yesterday, having a great day with friend, Darlene, going west of the city. We first called in at someone's private property to see if there was any sign of the Red-bellied Woodpecker that had been reported. No luck, but we did see many beautiful Evening Grosbeaks and even more Pine Siskins, plus a Hairy Woodpecker and several other birds. Also, we saw a different Grosbeak, either a female or a juvenile Rose-breasted Grosbeak or Black-headed Grosbeak. Didn't get a chance to look at my photos and crop to get a better look last night. Hopefully, someone will have been able to get the bird identified.
After this visit, we drove to an area where I had been told that a Great Gray can be seen sometimes (no luck), and then along Elbow Falls Trail (Highway 66) as far as Maclean Pond, just in time to see an Osprey with a large fish in its talons. So few birds to be seen or heard - maybe it was just too hot for them, and by then it was the afternoon, which tends not to be the best time to see birds. We got separated for quite a long time, through miscommunication, probably because when I yelled through the forest "Are you still coming?", it had sounded to Darlene like "I'm coming"! So, she waited for me to reach her and I had assumed that she was following behind me, some distance back. Apparently, both of us called a number of times after that, but we were out of hearing distance. Not a good feeling, each of us concerned about the well-being of the other and each wondering if we were going to have to call in a search party. At 31C, it was feeling mighty hot the whole time, too! When we finally found each other, we knew what we needed after our "ordeal" - an ice-cream, back in Bragg Creek, lol! A great day, Darlene - thanks so much for driving and for all the fun : )

What best describes the place where you are now (or planning to go over the weekend)? What is the one thing you'd like to showcase? Make a picture postcard and send it to AAW.
Dont restrict it to monuments or a historical piece. Flora and fauna of the land (including people) are welcome, so is the local cuisine and drink. Take a stunning landscape, early morning shot, misty, wet, sandy or anything that relates to the place.
Dare: A nature shot.
Restriction: No square or vertical shots. Keep in mind the 'postcard' part of the assignment and try to shoot in that particular aspect ratio. Anything that looks landscape should be okay.
A "Welcome to... Brownsville" mural under the Intercounty Bridge.
I was introduced to this mural, and Brownsville, by the Netflix coming-of-age comedy/drama/horror series I Am Not Okay With This, exterior scenes of which were filmed in town. This mural was shown a few times as a place where the teenagers hung out.
The population on the mural, 5,283, hasn't been seen in Brownsville since the late 1960s. Census data shows that Brownsville's population peaked at around 8,000 people in 1940 and has steadily dropped over the decades to a quarter of that now.
...and I don’t mind saying that I still love it all
I wallowed in the springtime
Now I’m welcoming the fall
For every moment of joy
Every hour of fear
For every winding road that brought me here
For every breath, for every day of living
This is my thanksgiving.

Icelandic horses are a unique breed, and no other horse is allowed into the country. If an Icelandic horse is sold off-island, it can never return. This one seemed to welcome me as a visitor.

Benvenuto inverno (astronomico)!
In quello australe oggi inizia l'estate! L'inverno meteorologico, invece, inizia convenzionalmente il primo dicembre. Oggi è dunque il giorno più corto dell'anno, ma da domani le giornate cominceranno ad allungarsi!
Welcome (astronomical) winter!
It's been few minutes, since 11:44, that winter has officially started. The winter solstice, beside marking traditionally the beginning of the cold season, marks also the moment when the Sun reaches the minimum elevation above the horizon, at least in the Northern hemisphere. In the Southern hemisphere today is the beginning of summer! The meteorological winter, instead, conventionally begins on December 1st. Thus today is the shortest day of the year, but starting tomorrow, days will get longer!
