Day 96/365 for a doll a day

ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen being welcomed back at Cologne’s airport in Germany on 12 September 2015.

The European Astronaut Centre in Cologne is the home base of all ESA astronauts. ESA’s medical team will monitor how he readapts to gravity.

Andreas Mogensen, Soyuz spacecraft commander Gennady Padalka and Kazakh cosmonaut Aidyn Aimbetov landed on 12 September 2015 at 00:51 GMT (02:51 CEST) in the steppe of Kazakhstan, marking the end of their missions to the International Space Station.

Andreas became Denmark’s first astronaut when he left our planet on 2 September on his 10-day iriss mission. The trio undocked from the orbiting complex on 11 September at 21:29 GMT (23:29 CEST) in an older Soyuz spacecraft, leaving the new vessel they arrived in for the Station crew.

ESA used the mission to test new technologies and conduct a series of scientific experiments.

Sorry for leaving you with a fried egg for the last couple of days, but I have been very busy...

Thank you to David for pointing out that I had another picture on TV via the BBC Britain in Pictures group! :))

I'll try and catch up with everyone soon, but can't promise anything. Sorry.

See it here large on black!

07-178

The photos being posted today were totally unexpected, so my apologies ahead of time.

At the last minute, I thought I'd try to get a shot of a hummer at one of our Rose of Sharon trees. Mission accomplished!

BUT --- suddenly I spotted a CHIPMUNK foraging in the backyard! We haven't seen one since last October! After racing to tell my sister, we grabbed our cameras and parked ourselves at different windows. It scurried from its hidey hole to the yard to forage several times.

And of course I had to grab a few additional shots in the meantime. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Happy Summer Solstice, the First Day of Summer, Hump Day or whatever you want to call today! 😊

Fausto Melotti (1901-1986) - The seven sages (1960). Originally commissioned in 1960 by the Milan municipality to decorate the gardens of the Giosuè Carducci public high school, some of the the statues were vandalised by the students in 1964 and thereafter the set was stored away in the basement of the school for about half a century. After a recent restoration they were shown to the public at the Soglia Magica exhibition space at the Porta di Milano gate of Malpensa Airport for the inauguration of that exhibition space (May 2019-February 2020).

The installation consists of 7 identical figures, placed and lit in such a way as to create a highly dynamic effect. Melotti's work on sets of hieratic figures goes back to 1936, when he created the first set for the 6th Triennale di Milano, probably inspired by the mannequins that are a recurrent theme in the paintings of Giorgio de Chirico.

Railfreight makes a welcome return to Penmaenmawr Quarry after a decade and in some style in the form of one of GB Railfreight's premium Brush Traction locomotives, Class 60, 60087.

The working was a trial run ahead of a new flow of aggregate for concrete construction projects to the relatively new Hanson terminal at Tuebrook Sidings, due to start in earnest in the New Year. The 60 arrived on 6D60 07:08 Tuebrook Sidings to Penmaenmawr Quarry.

After arriving in the quarry sidings and splitting its rake of 23 JNAs, the loco drew the front portion forward and then ran round the whole rake, before shunting back on to the east end of the portion nearest the camera and propelling it back (seen here) to reattach to the other portion. The whole train was then propelled further back into the sidings until the first wagon was positioned under the chute ready for loading.

GB Railfreight Liverpool Depot’s Mark Jones - born and bred in North Wales - was back on his home turf in the chair.

The original welcome sign at the entrance of Pripyat, Ukraine.

Pripyat was built in the 1970s as a model Soviet city to house the workers and families of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. It was evacuated the day after the nuclear accident and is now a ghost town.

The Portland Cement Silos built in 1908 welcome visitors to the small town of Concrete, WA, population 705. Notice the tiny figures of my friends Karen and Wilbur at the base of the silos.

The area was called Minnehaha before the town was established. Limestone and clay deposits were found and the Portland Cement Company began it's operations. In honor of the town's main industry, the town was named Concrete in 1909.

I'm New In Flickr ..,

So Welcome Me PLZ :) !

Angela just joined our team. Join us in welcoming her.

Pals, I went to India for a short trip (Varanasi, Delhi), and returned with a huge collection of photos. India is, certainly, a kind of paradise for the street photographer. I hope to share with you some of my findings.

Naturally, I decided to start with a welcoming one.

She was sitting in the middle of a large, crowded, Muslim(?) sheep market. There were not many girls or women there. She sat there like a princes, and looked so lovely and open. I find her gorgeous, in her way.

The previous photo has marked the end of the Magh Mela / Allahabad sessions. Now, it is time to move on towards a new project.

I offer gratitude points if anyone can tell me which city will be featured in the next chapter. C`mon don`t be shy... It`s not like there is one correct answer...

Port of Aghios Nikolaos

31 December 2012

On May 9th, Ogden Union Station was the place to be. Union Pacific brought the UP 4014, and the UP 844 nose to nose, to help celebrate the sesquicentennial of the completion of the transcontinental railroad. About 25,000 people gathered for this event. The drawing factor was the Big Boy, UP 4014. Needless to say, there was a jubilant welcoming committee waiting for her.

People come from all over the world to enjoy the blues festival.

Australia is God's Country. 28 min.

It is arguably the finest country on this planet.

In our view it is second to none.

@ Jakarta car-free day - April 2009

Car-free day is meant to reduce pollution & create atmosphere along Sudirman to Thamrin Boulevard, Jakarta. At this time, the road was filled with people participating events (futsal matches, fun games, music performances, marching band), while some others are just enjoying taking a stroll and cycling, even two world-touring cyclists enjoy car-free day today.

But since there was an accident when a Mayasari Bakti bus hit a boy while he was crossing the road to chase his ball, the event would now run from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m rather than from 6. a.m. to 2 p.m.

So if you have an opportunity to visit Jakarta, pretty please, free your time on the 4th Sunday of the month, and i'll take you downtown to enjoy Jakarta car-free day. :)

This is the welcome sign as you are entering Iowa City, Iowa. I happened to be driving by this right as the lights on the sign came on and the sun was setting behind it. I like the way this turned out.
